- Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of the teenager who killed four students at an Oxford, Michigan, high school in 2021, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a trial that stood as a test of the limits of who's responsible for a school shooting.

The fact that her son BEGGED her for help and she completely ignored him is just so sad. So many lives ruined that could have been saved if the parents and school had just taken this seriously.

Yes, it's absolutely excruciating to hear this - he reached out for help and the parents failed him! So many beautiful young lives needlessly lost!

I'll bet if more parents start being held accountable, they'll figure out how to lock these guns up.
Damn right. They knew their son had mental issues too and they just laughed about ti and told him to suck it up.
Or even better, if we hold gun manufacturers and dealers accountable, parents won't be able to buy guns in the first instance.

They bought the gun, they took the minor to the shooting range, they fostered the culture of behavior!
oh but they ignored him
just like the rest of America !!!
Going to the range is responsible behavior. That isn’t why she was convicted. Not securing the weapons, or recognizing the mental issues and removing the weapons was criminally negligent.
Are you taking about the Bronx ??
The issue is not that they bought a gun but that it is legal to do so.
This is just a way for americans to blame school shootings on parents instead of their own impotence to create an environment without guns.
💯! Maybe, just maybe society in general will pay more attention to the responsibilities of being a parent and a gun owner.
How about the responsibilities of being a good President, and calling off your possie from the WH!! Trump also has blood on his hands.
When your kid says "Please buy me a gun" the answer should always be "No." These parents seemed checked out like you can't believe about their child's emotional life but also willing to buy him a handgun? Then they ran when they thought they'd get in trouble. I hope this stops other parents from buying their kids guns or to get them to talk about therapy if they so much as ask for a gun.
The fact that they ran means that they knew that what they had done was not only immoral but also illegal.

You then allow that vicious animal to run rampant in society, you are fully responsible for the actions and damage created by that animal. Parental responsibility over children is no different. Today more and more parents turn children into vicious animals then let them run rampant. If you allow the government to raise your children the government will. Wonder if this will have an effect on parents with kids in street gangs? Remember the TV commercial years ago, "It's 11 o'clock, do you know where your child is"?
There's a difference. She bought her juvenile son the firearm, she therefore assumed responsibility for his misuse of it. Most armed juvenile criminals obtain their weapons by theft or buying from other criminals. A parent doesn't bear the burden of responsibility if a firearm is obtained without their knowledge or permission.
Four people are dead and she and her husband could have prevented it, on a number of occasions. Including the day of the shooting, when they were called to the school and asked to take their son home and refused. This is the only correct outcome in this situation. This will set a precedent in which going forward, other people including parents, will be responsible for the gun deaths and injuries of their children and of the people around them.

As a teacher, it is the parents fault. You ignore your sons mental health? Especially when he is at a big moment in his life? Shame on you. All parents out there, if your not sure how to parent a child or need help raising them in any season of life. Ask for help, it's not that hard. A students success in school starts from the home, not when they walk into a classroom.

It's about time parents get charged for the irresponsible use of a gun by their children. The majority of time if the child is a problem, it is the parents that are the problem. Ask any probation officer.
“Are we done here”
Lemme get this straight. The "parents" bought their kid violent video games, bought him THREE guns - two tactical handguns - gave him drugs and at the same time allowed him access to alcohol. Brought him to a gun range where he shot at human silhouette targets. Ignored him when he screamed for their help, which they both laughed at. Left the guns and ammunition unsecured around the house. The "mother" called the kid an "oopsie baby", and said after the mass-murder she wouldn't change a thing in what lead to a mass-murder at school. It doesn't take a Magellan-class navigator to see where this was going!
The moment they slap on the shackles, that is a rock bottom moment in your life.
This is a just verdict. These wacko parents, trump-loving, but hateful to everyone else, even their own son.

There's no appeal on the facts of the case, appeals for criminal convictions are only on process.
Jury trials are almost never overturned.
I hate when people say "she showed no emotions during the verdict, which means she had no remorse"
Not everyone breaks down crying. Some people just take their fate and keep it bottled inside without needing to put on a show for the court room.
Spoiling kids to be callous murderers.
Spoiled? No. Neglected.
I'm shocked the school did not immediately notify police & call ambulance to remove Ethan to nearest hospital intake as soon as he expressed suicidal ideations in class that morning. School has authority to do so. School admin created more danger for the students by calling for a "family meeting" and not searching shooters book bag, which had a gun in it. Where was the Principal was he on campus? What were they all thinking? Yes, hold parents accountable but unfortunately many kids have dysfunctional parents and families. Schools have to act quickly to protect the kids.

Meanwhile, over in right wing country, a jury said it was perfectly fine for Kyle Rittenhouse’s parents to give him a gun and take him some place he had no business being at so he could kill people. It seems that if your kid is perfectly sane it’s ok for them to kill but if they’re crazy it’s the parents fault. The parents always play a role in what their children do depending on the severity of the situation. It can be no more severe than somebody dying.
I agree but I had a nephew that drew gorey stuff and was always beaten by his mother! He died at 44 years old and it was by his own hand
That's not true. But in this case she ignored her son's cry for help. And then she and her husband provided him with the weapon.
If your kid takes your car without your permission, goes to a party, and gets in a DUI crash, causing a death, should you as the parent be held criminally responsible for involuntary manslaughter? How about if your kid overdoses on drugs and dies. You didn't give them the drugs or try to help them with their drug problem and they die. Of course you could civilly liable, but I don't agree that you should take someone's liberty away due to the actions of their family member, unless they aided with the crime or had knowledge about what was going to happen and didn't act. Am I missing something about the facts? It seems the prosecution only proved that she was a negligent parent. How does that equate to criminal liability for manslaughter?

Another important point has to be mentioned. There is insanity in the legal practice in the Court of Law. In this video, we see that Jennifer Crumbley, also her husband, gets treated harshly. Being brought into the Court Jennifer gets shackled as if she is one of the most dangerous criminals on the planet. In another case, a young strong criminal, who stabbed and killed four young students in a rented apartment, in his bright orange suit (walked freely) without handcuffs or shackles was brought into the Court. He sat down by a woman. Unlike the way Jennifer got treated in the Court, why was this strong and young criminal being treated so kindly? He was a vicious criminal.
