She said she didn't know what her son was going to do, but she called 911 as soon as she heard about the shooting saying that she thought her son was the shooter. You wouldn't jump to that conclusion if you didn't think he would do it. How many other parents called 911 that day to report that their kid was probably the shooter? I'm betting zero.
Not only did they neglect their son, after the crime they RAN OFF and left him to deal with it himself!
Neglecting a human slave, whats that?
Yep, they R-U-N-N-O-F-T

Now indict the Uvalde Police and all the other officers that stood around while children were being murdered!
Yes!!! No protection from the disgusting way they behaved. The detectives in this case described how they ran into the school, 100s of them even from their homes off duty to help.
Now you go too far! We ALL know those poor little cops were very afraid and did the very best they could do what with all their training and resources! Those poor little things!!

The fact that they bought him a gun and trained him AFTER all these red flags, is enough for more than involuntary manslaughter. I could argue accomplice to cold blooded murder. These parents are insane for what they did.

This couple tried to escape the country after the shooting. They were found in a warehouse in downtown Detroit. Possibly planning to go over the border into Canada. Leaving your child alone to face this on his own was an example of neglect too. He had no one to turn to for help and that is sad.
Giving your child a gun and then sending them to school is on another level of dangerous negligence.
Agree, and yet several of these kinds of shootings we learn the SAME motivation from parents of shooters: “We got him a gun to ‘teach’ him responsibility and give him something to do.”🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

Geeze. My kids have a variety of mild social anxiety and ADHD and they each have a therapist. Maybe I'm too hypervigilant but OMG that kid needed HELP.
Thankfully your kids have a responsible parent(s). Best of luck to your family, I hope your kids get as healthy as possible.
You love your kids, so you’re providing them care.
I’m not sure where you live or what it’s like there, but here in Oklahoma it’s REALLY hard to get mental help for a kid, but in fact easier once they’ve been institutionalized, then REALLY difficult after they are late to 2 of those appointments, then much easier after they go to jail.

It’s why my husband and I had to stop buying wine when they were teens.
If a person is hearing voices and seeing things, they shouldn't be made to beg for help! They should get it, no conditions attached! Regardless of age or ability to pay!
Yes they should be accountable, as in BOTH parents. Hopefully Dad is equally charged!
Yup, he's also been charged but his trial is taking a bit longer.
I use to hear growing up never blame parents but as I got older I realized those people who said that were parents themselves. It’s about time to start blaming parents who have children that commit crimes.
This lady was a horrible parent.
No. The kids that bullied her son at school and online are horrible kids.
@@DeepDishPizza But did those kids choose to shoot the school up?
The thing is... I have a mentally ill child. Self harming, suicidal, seeing black shadows with red eyes, and them talking to my child since they were six. We have been to therapist after therapist over years with my child unable to articulate what's going on as I think they dont understand it themselves. I found disturbing drawings, but the school was absolutely useless. Could only offer their school counsellor once per fortnight. Nothing else. By the time they turned 14 they would not speak to anyone but me. I am NOT a therapist, this 'seeing and hearing things' is WAY out of my league. It killed me to hear it and to experience that deep darkness which is where they were. I kept them alive, I was there 24/7 for anything. Couldnt work. Overwhelmed, ready to go for vacation in hospital. There were many other disturbing behaviours that happened. But now, they seem to be quite self aware. Working with doctors, talking a little bit more. This has been very traumatic for myself just to delve into my childs mental distress.
But I hung in there, and the future actually looks a teeny bit brighter for them. When someone wants to end their life.... NOTHING you can say will stop them feeling so horrible about themselves. It's a process, where you need to be there 24/7, supporting and available and ready for anything. PS... they didnt shoot anyone.
Much respect to you for trying your best to do the right thing by your child 🙏🏾.
Sadly, parents who do what parents should do, like you, seem to be the exception.
Here's wishing you and your child peace, hoping you both find the skills and the strength to push on through into the light.
Much love hugs and prayers! ❤🤗🙏🏾

Its 2024, and this is the FIRST time a parent has been held accountable for their children for school shooting.... This country is a disgrace
No. Justice was served & our great country is not a disgrace. If you had followed the case, you would know that a jury of peers gave this verdict based on the evidence presented to them. Sounds like you don't like our beloved country?
The disgrace is what was done to these innocent children and the children’s parents of these 4 DEAD children’s. Where is the empathy, very scary
There are too many school shootings 😢
It’s all about the circumstances
This is a great precedent. We need to start holding all Parents responsible and accountable for the actions of their Children. Maybe under threat of going to jail or prison for child neglect, this will force parents to actually parent.
Maybe she should ask the parents of the dead kids how they handle their stress.

Exactly. That’s why Joe gets blamed for Hunters laptop.

@@DeepDishPizzano. For children. Obviously. Jesus christ
If he was turning in homework with graphic images and writings, and the teachers brought it to the attention of the parents, and the parents done close to nothing, why didn’t school officials do something and kick him outta school, go to elearning until the parents complied with some counseling and a psychological evaluation?? There were school personnel who knew how potentially dangerous he was too, at least one or two.
I agree. Believe one would need to be very careful not to escalate a situation without proper authority involved right away. It's very sad.
Thankfully you’re not in charge. First off drawing disturbing pictures is not grounds for expulsion… second both parents work all day, so the kids would be completely unsupervised.. there was more concern about possible suicide, which is much more common with teens than mass murder.. unfortunately the parents failed to inform the school that the kid had access to a firearm.. no doubt that would’ve changed the entire situation…
I used to be a school guidance counselor. When a 2nd grader threatened another student with his dad's sword (it was at home), the parents were asked to have him evaluated immediately and he was Baker Acted. If the parents hadn't complied, the police would have been notified, and they would have transported the child to a psychiatric receiving facility. Not sure why this didn't happen here, I think the parents intimidated the school administrator. The teachers had voiced multiple concerns even before that day, all the flags were there. Some parents are very defensive and refuse counseling.
Might be the FIRST and hopefully NOT THE LAST!!! Parents MUST be held accountable!
Just by looking at her eyes, tells a lot!!
@anacampos5220 seeing her reaction to being found guilty made me surprised. Lady really raised her hand up like she's saying "come on" in annoyance

Whatever you do, dOn't bLaMe ThE gUnS!.......they're sensitive.
It's a mental health issue more than a gun issue
And guns are not guilty. The people are.
The mother and father definitely. But don't forget the school. There definitely was negligence on the school's part. The school principal and counselors were well aware of the warnings on SNS and history of mental illness but allowed him into school WITHOUT even checking his bag.
You can argue that the school should have done more to prevent the shooting, but the parents did NOTHING and actively withheld important information from the school. I think that's why the parents are facing criminal charges and the school is not. Of course, the school will probably face civil penalties.
From what I read in a longer article elsewhere, the school had met with the parents and advised him that he had turned in assignments with violent drawings on them and that they felt he needed to be removed from the school and placed in a facility where he could be appropriately helped. They'd even found such a facility that was prepared to take him, but the parents insisted he had to stay in school because they both had to go to work and couldn't be taking him to such a facility so he'd just be on his own at home and it was better that he stay at school. What I don't understand is why the school couldn't have refused their demand that he remain in school. I know it's a public school, but they needed to be concerned about all the students/faculty/staff at the school, not just this one individual student.
How about holding the NRA, the gun lobby, and gun manufacturers responsible instead of teachers who already have enough to deal with?

Hats off to the Prosecutors for charging them so soon after. This was not a well run trial by any means so hopefully that doesn’t come into play on an appeal.

CONSEQUENCES.
As a former educator I am glad a parent is being held accountable... FINALLY! We have suffered so much on so many levels in society and it can all be traced back to the parents. I know many teachers , myself included, who had to leave what we loved doing...what we had trained to do for years and invested in... our livelihoods and careers... just to escape the crazy and dangerous parents and their offspring. Every single one of us still suffer from some form of PTSD and/or chronic health issues brought on by the stress of having dealt with them.
Accountability
This is ridiculous! Poor woman I’m devastated for her
I dont believe she KNEW he was going to do this, or was subtly trying to get him to do anything. I think for me what makes her the most guilty of severe negligence is AFTER the meeting about the drawings on the paper.. she didnt even question her son where the weapon was. Didnt bother to go home to see if it was still there. There was absolutely no conversation about the gun or its whereabouts or anything. She just walked out and it didnt even cross her mind to check. If she had just checked immediately she could have stopped this. That was her last chance and she blew it
I hope this verdict brings a sense of justice for the families and victims, but also brings some measure of validation for Ethan himself. He is responsible for his choices, but I am shocked at the level of emotional neglect he suffered. He was clearly unloved, and was mocked for asking for help. I find it noteworthy that Ethan accepted responsibility and pled guilty, sparing the families the ordeal of a trial, while his mother is still denying all responsibility and even fought to force Ethan to testify on HER behalf.
Who thought anything different?
Imagine abandoning your son so you can try to flee the country and then expecting him to testify for you in court. The parents are garbage.
Parents
For sure are involved in the behavior of their kids.

Freezer Mom and Starvation Mom are waiting for her at Ypsilanti.
We have precedent.
Y’all parents better get in formation and pay attention to your kids.
The mother needs to be guilty. In previous news stories, she had an affair with her husband, had a cat named Dexter, and ignored her son's mental health issues. She needs to be ashamed of herself.
One of the many reasons why not "just anybody" should be allowed to breed and have a go at raising children. 😒
Can a school call 911 when a child makes threats like this? Get him out of that school?
Teach your children to be loving and kind. My father told me that if I joined the military he would take it personally as his failure as a parent. Wow.

While I agree with this verdict, it seems to be a scapegoat case unless they start charging more.
The school counselor was negligent as well. BUT, parents are ultimately responsible for their children and actions
@@doloresparra4604 Yet the school is responsible for the safety of those students and didn't expel this kid like they should have. Instead they left it up to the parents to make the decision.
I agree. Schools had policies in place that expelled kids in kindergarten. A law was put in place to stop schools from doing so. Here this kid is much older, the school dropped the ball. That family needed help. The school should have referred him/them to a therapist or family counseling and not allowed him back in school until they met with said therapist/medical support. I guarantee no parent wants their child to do something like this.
I think they wanted him to commit suicide. But yeah, it seems like they knew he was in crisis and pushed him towards the gun.
Pay attention parents with guns. DO something or be held accountable ☹️
The last time I saw a mouth like that on the lawyer it had a hook in it.
She will never feel how those parents feel ,who’s children where victims, you can close your eyes as much as you want, only god would be able to forgive you if that was my child.
If your child is experiencing hallucinations, you need to take them to the ER, not sign them up for outpatient therapy. They need to be stabilized before they can get outpatient treatment.
I always find it interesting that parents again. Mostly Republican parents will scream to the schools that it is not the schools job to parent their kid. Until of course the kid does something like this then those same parents are asking why the school didn’t take more action parenting the kid..
When a woman has to face accountability and can’t play the victim…….wow, it finally happened
If children got to pick who their parents were the world would be unrecognizable.
Now their lifestyle is 0ver 😮
Some people should not have children...
The school dropped the ball and should be charged with crimes, also.
The school identified the issue, called in the parents, and made recommendations for immediate mental health support. They shared all relevant information with the parents including the drawings of the shooting. Should they have insisted he leave? Should they have checked his backpack for weapons? Maybe so. But contrast their actions with the parents who came to the school, ignored all of the information the school gave them, refused to take their child home, made it clear that if the school sent Ethan home they would be at work and not there with him, that they would not be seeking mental health intervention, didn't tell the school they had just purchased a gun for him, and didn't verify that the gun was secure at home. You can argue that the school should have done more to prevent this, but the parents didn't do ANYTHING and further concealed important information that would have given the school reason to do more. It's not about the parents being perfect, it's about them making any effort at all to do right by their own son.
Unprecedented case! Changes the rules.
The school is also responsible. Why didn’t they search his backpack that day? They would have found the gun. Any time a child is talking violence, they should immediately be isolated from other students and staff and his clothing, person, backpack and lockers should be checked and maybe LE called in.
