  • Kensington, Philadelphia is a neighborhood long known as a place to buy and do drugs. Over the last few years, the street fentanyl here has been cut more often and with greater amounts of xylazine-- a veterinary tranquilizer that can cause skin wounds that often won't heal. CNN returned to Kensington this year to see what has changed. #CNN #News

Are they making fun and bullying, trying to hurt and belittle people for their own gain? Or are they trying to understand and ultimately help the people they are making videos about?

Listen I was a homeless addict for 13 years & I’m telling you 99.9% of the people going down there & filming are not helping & are using the homeless for clicks & clout. Why don’t people realize if you take up 30 minutes (or more) of a homeless persons time that’s 30 minutes they could have been panhandling & got money from other people. Lots of the people interviewing them give them nothing or some give them food & to be honest most food given to homeless people gets thrown away cuz SO MANY PEOPLE BUY US FOOD ON THE DAILY. When I use to pan in front of McDonald’s I would get like 4 Big Macs an hour minimum & so many coffees but I don’t even drink coffee. They don’t need food they need a damn hotel room or 50$. If you don’t have at least 20$ to give them for an interview don’t waste their time. & honestly the sick fascination with the prostitutes is disgusting & again your bothering them while they are WORKING TRYING TO MAKE MONEY SO THEY DONT HAVE TO SLEEP ON THE STREET ALL NIGHT OR END UP SUCKING SOME NASTY ADDICTS D FOR A BLAST! & that’s exactly what happens when they don’t make money! Just having drugs on you can guaranty you a warm place to sleep cuz you can give housed addicts a piece of dope for a couch for the night or a bigger piece for a whole room. But Nobody is gonna stop & pick them up while some dude with a camera is there! God damn it these people annoy me so much.. I almost wish they’d start getting jumped so they just won’t come back & lots have been caught scamming subscribers for donations that they never even give to the homeless!

I never feared death, or what negative effects happened to my body (my lungs were severely damaged) because I knew that when I smoked it the next time I would have that same "good feeling" and I would have a temporary escape from my problems. You only have 2 emotional states (pain, guilt, depression etc) or the euphoria that any other substance would give you. You would choose the substance that provided you temporary relief every time because you did not want to deal with the negative emotional state. This is how it was for me, and I hope it makes sense. Also I think that it is commendable that you are genuinely curious on how other people feel, even if you do not understand addiction well. So many people who do not understand would judge me and say things like "you are stupid for choosing drugs" or any kind of judgement that would inflict shame. Have a good evening from california :)

Like literally the person at the top says how many came from CNN and It's 17k likes and 500 comments.. I'm no lover of CNN although I believe they are biased, not corrupt, It doesn't look like the 2 guys, I looked them up, have any less subs.. I mean this video didn't even say their names and showed them for less than 2 secs... This and a few other comments are the only reason people even knew.. You guys need to learn to not draw attention from your own bias because if I, and OBVIOUSLY 17K+ PEOPLE would not have even known about these 2 people at all because again, their names weren't in this video and literally a sec worth of screen time... I'm not meaning to be disrespectful at all, I promise that, I'm just saying if not for the TOP 4 COMMENTS saying both or one name, nobody would have even known...

      1. People care. People have empathy. Most people, almost everyone, have good hearts and love their fellow people.
      2. It becomes more difficult to care when addicts do this to themselves. The left doesn’t want to blame the addicts and react strongly when the need for responsibility and self reliance is voiced.
      3. The government (local, state, and federal) can stop the supply of drugs immediately. The United States has huge amount of resources and power. Again, the left is on the side of drug dealers and criminals. Any strong measure to stop the supply is attacked as draconian, fascistic, and racist by the “defund police” and BLM crowd.
The result is in front of our eyes. The left is harming people they claim to care for.
I have stopped visiting major US cities ten years ago. San Francisco, LA, Seattle, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC. I have very good memories visiting them in the old days. Don't take prescriptions without reading the side affects pamphlet it comes with. Refrain from taking it if it's high risk to addiction or you have a tendency to be addicted to things. These precautions are wise and not hard in life. These folks on are a death wish of destruction. Slow suicide. America needs more supportive environment and healthier society, if people feel cared about, confident, self sufficient, capable, respected, it would probably not come to this decay and destruction. They probably didn't feel valued or loved, overwhelmed by how difficult it is to live now. Our society and culture need a complete overhaul. Your comment hit home 💔😢🙏🏻 Everyone has purpose, life is a gift. Everyone deserves respect and to live to their fullest potential. Believing in others and encouragement can go a long way! This is what should be the agenda, not normalizing substances. When people are productive in life and contributing, bettering themselves, there is no greater feeling than that!!! ❤

I am a (thankfully) recovering addict.
Whether it was fortune or favour, I was lucky enough to never spend a night without a home. I ALWAYS had somewhere to go lay my head.
I cleaned up before fentanyl arrived, (it's still not here in the UK as of February 2024) and I'm glad I did.
Fentanyl looks like a whole other level of destruction, and like a typical addict I would be drawn to the most powerful shot I could get, and almost certainly end up dead.
I know how we addicts are viewed by the general public, so I'm not pleasing for sympathy, but I beg of you, please see the person too. They are suffering, man.

@@kc6810 I dunno, to be honest.
I was always a strange child, I and used to tell lies a lot when I was little. Really silly lies too, like the time I told my primary school class that I had dolphins in my back yard.
I used to steal persistently as a teenager too.
I dunno why I feel this is key Information, but it makes sense to me.
I've always been weird, ever since I was little, and I believe a head injury I sustained as a child caused injuries nobody noticed at the time.
Part of those injuries seemed to result in me being unable to produce the feel good chemicals most normal people produce as standard.
As a result, life was horrifically hostile to me, and drugs took away all that trauma and the feel good chemicals I couldn't produce myself, in sufficient quantities, seemed to be substituted by the chemicals reactions caused by drug use.
As I've researched this with age, it seems there is something in my beliefs, as a works renowned addiction expert called doctor Gabor Matë landed on a very similar theory.
So, that's what I think caused it.
I sustained a brain injury as a 7 year old, and within months I began to act out as described above, telling lies and stealing things, and when I first tried heroin when I was 16, it literally made me feel perfect, easing all my anxieties and discomfort, replacing it with a feeling of wellbeing and purpose.
