Lamborghini Miura S - Road-Testing a Complete Ground-up Restoration | Tyrrell's Classic Workshop

- This stunning gold Lamborghini Miura S has undergone a complete ground-up rotisserie restoration under the care and attention of Iain and his team. Having featured in previous workshop catch-ups, including details of the reworking of the front-end to match the original factory spec, the car is now looking the part, and that means it's time to start slowly bringing the car to life through careful road-testing, a process that can often be a significant chunk of the total restoration time. Ride along with Iain as his years of experience working with Miuras allows him to pin-point the issues that require further attention back at the workshop. All being well, Iain can hopefully start to open her up and allow that glorious V12 to sing once again!
Thank you once again to everyone for the overwhelming reception of these videos and for all the support of likes, subscribes and wonderful comments.

The front fog lights were one of the last parts to go on the car as part of the new front-end, but don’t worry folks, the loose one was fully secured shortly after these shakedown miles.
Just in time:)..
Luv your channel buddy , cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 👍🏻
Came here to leave this comment, but of course your eagle eye has it sorted. Amazing work on this beauty!
I doubt many owners would be driving their million £ car in the fog.
Thank goodness for that!
I am a crusty old engineer of 60 years and I don't hand out compliments easily... but this Gentleman is one of the great Engineers of our time. The knowledge in his brain is priceless and not replaceable.
There is something very calming and reassuring in his voice. Calm from experience, reassuring from knowledge. What a pleasure to watch and enjoy. Few men, irrespective of occupation, carry that confidence with ease
This channel is outstanding….I could listen to Ian talk all day about cars….I’m glad Harry talked him into doing this channel. Just brilliant!
Lovely! Right fog light is shaking a lot though!
Yep, offside front fog light needs a nip up.
A toothpick jammed in there would fix it 😉
@@ianstoys13mgs to quote the man himself
Yeah, I noticed right away!
Something that would only be noticed from reviewing the video or camera man and not by anybody when rolling in or out of the garage.
Tyrrell's Classic Workshop is the kind of place where you would enjoy spending money to get work done. True value.
I’m sure they provide great value for money but I bet a ground up restoration costs an absolute fortune. Good job the finished result is worth more than a fortune
_"... which means I've got to put them through their paces when they're done"._ It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it.
Still one of the most beautiful looking and sounding cars ever to hit the road, a few design flaws notwithstanding. Still looks completely modern 50 years on. A true classic is always timeless
Excellent video! I remember working for Ferrari Suisse back in the late 90ies when, one early morning, I watched the offloading of a 288GTO which was quite a sight after a strong espresso… so early... But when they offloaded a pristine Miura S and parked it next to the GTO with an engine noise to die for, the whole premises went bezerk! The Ferraristi were yelling blasphemy wheras I praised the Lord and knelt in front of the beauty to take pictures. The Miura is the most beautiful car ever built, period.
I'm learning proper English through your videos, cheers))
a 50 year old car with timeless beauty...just cannot stop admiring the lines of this beast...

Complete Miura S restoration. None better than Tyrrell if you want it to be done right. Gonna settle in, kick back and watch.
Whenever I watch one of Iain’s videos, I am COMPELLED to go to my own classic car and start tinkering with it. Every time. I call it the ‘Tyrrell effect’.
In my opinion one of the best looking cars ever made. I first saw one around the late 60s outside a garage in Mansfield Notts, I believe it was Twiggys then boyfriends car. Bright lime green with all the trim in matt black, stunning. Loved them ever since.
Open a bottle of champagne to celebrate... champagne and a video of Ian Tyrrell driving and talking about a Miura pops up on CZcams. Lovely.
The most beautiful car ever made in my humble opinion; and, by extension, that means the most beautiful car ever to be made? The days of cars that could look like this are now gone. We will never look upon a car like the Miura again.
I've done my own restoration actually on a classic car over the weekend. I topped up the windscreen washer bottle on my 1979 Ford Capri. Very satisfying in the end to feel the difference to the way the car drove afterwards, absolutely smooth as silk.
You’re such a card, old chap 😄,
I get the same feeling when I put the right amount of air in my tyres.
rebalanced the centre of gravity
and made a good car a brilliant one
The Muira is one of the most beautiful cars ever. Great restoration!

13 April 1971, garage in Knightsbridge, second day of married life, waiting 2 hours for the coach to the airport. Parked outside was a purple one of these. Didn't know it was there until the bus pulled out of the station doors. Happy days.
Wonderful to get a glimpse into the shakedown of a beautiful Miura S. An immense amount of work goes into making everything work correctly, and that's what separates the good from the great.
the camera images from inside the engine compartment are great!
Agreed! I actually paused the video to take note of the detail. Class. 👌🏻
So rare to see such an valuable car put through its paces and do what it was designed to do. What a treat!
The best looking Lambo for me. What a great car and superb restoration. Thanks for that.
I can imagine the bill of the restoration. It contains 'some' 0 characters I think. But on the other hand the work is beautiful! Congratulations to everyone who was involved in the project! Signore Lamborghini would be proud.
Lovely episode, really nice, and kind of an honor really, to be invited into the magical realm of your workshop, and to share into the finer motions of the craftsmanship.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking sir!
That Belgian customer will surely be very happy when he gets it back. Beautiful work. Amazing car.
At the end the car is perfect but if you watch this video you will see the off side under light shaking! But this is far better than JC on Top Gear shouting about the car - you have lovingly rebuilt it and now fine tuning all of it bit by bit. What a pleasure to get it right and to see you doing it. Fantastic work all round.
Not sure whether I’d rather drive a Miura, or be passed by one, it looks so damn good flying by.
I'd rather be passed by one.......lovely looking car but the maintenance issues and up keep would be my idea of a nightmare. The owner has done well finding Ian's workshop, some seriously capable people in that team, real quality , so good to be able to watch the skill and craftsmanship.
After seeing how Iain's head is pressed hard into the roof, I'm pretty sure I'd rather see the car from the outside rather than the inside.
I'd rather have it in my garage to look at it everyday and drive it once a week.
@@Danny-wv8ec I'd rather just watch it on video, I wouldn't want to own any of those things even if I was a multimillionaire. I was offered a Dino really cheap once, I had the money to buy it but decided not to do it because of the maintenance costs to it. I gave up owning any cars a while back, now I just call a Taxi and it is a lot cheaper. Still love cars for what they are but have no desire to own one, been there, done that, didn't even get a tshirt lol.
@@noth606 i live in Beirut, Lebanon and we’re in a tough economic/political situation now and i can’t even maintain my 2015 E350 Coupe and my Jeep. I’m 37 and i haven’t owned any vintage cars but my dream vintage car to own is a Corvette Stingray. I won’t even dream of owning a Miura.
You are literally going back into a time warp and experiencing what someone buying one of these new would have experienced, if anything, slightly better as you pay such attention to detail and know any weak spots and therefore pay even more attention to get those details just right. A real pleasure to watch.
My mom and dads neighbor has a Miura, he’s had it for 40 years. Still looks new. And you always knew when he drove it because everyone heard it fired up. Great beautiful car.
@@qtronicqilt8898 Lol no, no video.

What colour is it?
Thank you , feels like I’ve witnessed something historic . I’m sure the lucky owner has watched this video a hundred times .
I fear that he probably owns two or three dozen expensive cars, and hasn’t yet had the time to watch this.
Guess I'm not the first to see the right side fog lamp bouncing around. Glad you've got people to watch your back. Great resto..love it. Keep the vids coming! I am living my child & adulthood fantasy thru you...:)
I hope these videos are doing wonders for your business Ian? You and the team deserve to be household names worldwide in what you do. Top job once more. Thanks for letting us live the dream through the lens.
My favorite all time supercar. Raw yet elegant, absolutely stunning.
After enjoying this great video, I can't help to think how fortunate the Belgian customer must be watching it too and feeling absolutely confident in the result of the total restauration! Another job well done!
What a marvelous episode of TCW! Iain's joy is immediately apparent the moment he sits inside and his shop vernacular is just wonderful. Such a charming fellow, just oozing with knowledge and so generously shared too. TCW never fails to leave me smiling with a wide petrol-infused grin. Thank you so much.
Wonderful restoration. The skill involved in replacing the floor and swapping the front end was a joy to behold. Amazing car, just as it should be. Well done team Tyrrell.
The only true super-car worth having -- The original and still the best! It shocked the motoring world back in 1967 when it first appeared at motor shows with that unique engine/transmission layout and stunning body shape! Nothing since has captured that sexy look the way the Miura does!
Iain is a surgeon in the purest sense of the word.
What an inspiring guy Ian tyrrell is , a true genius at his craft, couldn’t wait to view when my phone pinged , well done Ian for the entertaining content on your channel.
Hard to believe how stunning the design and engineering are to this very day. Just amazing in every way.
Glad you sorted the fog light. What a lovely car & what a great restoration!
Several Countaches I know of or maintain have been driven at such speeds. They are very stable. Thanks for your interest
Gorgeous machine - can’t help but think Iain has single-handedly increased property values along his test drive route. So much fabulous machinery whizzing by to hear and watch....😉
Lovely to see these old things put right.
Have to admit, I was distracted like hell with that light doing a death wobble. Just loosen the other one up to bring it to factory specs.
A “shed load” of work, yes. Brilliant!
I remember watching The Italian Job in 1969 when I was 6 years old and I thought this was the most beautiful car I had ever seen and my opinion hasn't changed since then
And then that wonderful, wonderful inside-of-the-engine-bay view!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lovely car. Anyone else notice the o's fog light appeared to be wobbling a little? You wouldn't notice it from inside the vehicle.
Yes - I did..... then I read Iain’s blurb..... which answered problem
Yes i did but was distracted and learnt more. Have a good day Sir/Madam.
Yes Seen it... Great car!
Stunning piece of art restored to perfection.
I’ve put Iain Tyrrell on my bucket list. Would love to meet him. What a genius !! 😎😎😎😎😎
Love it…my ultimate dream car, ever since I saw one at brands hatch in the paddock in 1970/71..
Imagine seeing that marvellous beast on the prowl as you’re driving the opposite way.
I live down the road from his workshop and always look out as I go down the lanes but to date I've never seen him pass me in any car
@@rickyprice7586 Same - I saw the BMW M1 being filmed a few weeks back. Great catch 😊

I'm watching this, while having a wine and eating my favourite crisps: Tyrrell's salt & vinegar. Love the wine, love the crisps, but this video beats it.
What an incredible video. Even the little bits of careful filming of the shifter actuation were so satisfying. Vicarious enjoyment at its best.
I love that you don't just restore the car and deliver a show or museum piece, but you fully sort it out so it's delivered as functional as it was when new.
It just occurred to me that a good portion of the miles on a lot of classic cars were put on them by mechanics that were working on them. One of the many perks of the job.
This mans knowledge needs to be harnessed. I hope young aspiring mechanics are beating down his door to soak up that knowledge
hear hear !!
Imagine being an apprentice for Ian?
Oh to be 17 again…
@Stephen Schneider Believe me, they have plenty of money, based on what they charge. And fair enough, they do works class work.
Ian is obviously eating well 😂
@Stephen Schneider said like a true capitalist!
that's what comes of apprenticing at RR back in the day
Miura one of the very best looking Lamborghini to this day
Brakes bedding granted but rarely does that pull to either side and I have bedded in brakes in all fashions, slow and fast in many many cars, unless the piston is sticky
Pulling to left on braking is like a front geometry alignment/tie rod/suspension issue when weight is shifted over the front magnifying the pulling
Steering wheel off centre is a good indicator as many times you can replace a whole suspension setup, connect it all up accurately and the wheel is a few degrees off, also the car like wandering on perfect roads is an indicator
So much to consider in such a magnificent car, or any car for that matter, cars are fantastic when you can tweak that little niggle and get it spot on, one of the best things ever
thank god for iain and people behind this channel. nowhere else do you get the privilege to see such high-quality footage of a miura beneath the skin and all its mechanisms at work. i built a scale model of a miura about a year ago and searched all over for detailed pics of the underbody and engine bay. this is basically reference material and would have been handy at the time. ty for all your videos on one of the great beauties in automotive history.
Your editing has improved a lot: I like the support during the explanations. Very well done.
Another brilliant video thanks👍,
Would love to see a Jaguar E type soon😉👍👍👍
This is a master, master mechanic! It’s incredible how he tones these cars
Stunning restoration! I admire your sensitivity to these machines. While my own classic is a simple MG Midget, I’ve kept it alive and happy for over twenty-five years by paying attention to its little noises and vibrations, and dealing with issues promptly. Keep up the excellent work! I really enjoy your videos.
These videos are excellent - I love seeing these amazing machines prepared "as proper working cars" and further elevated to "machines of action and intensity". I really appreciate seeing Ian and team's passion for keeping these classics road ready and capable for what they were designed to do.
What can I say, another fascinating insight in to proper old school car engineering, Im totaly hooked and cant get enough.
Thanks Mr Tyrrell.
...and if Iain is happy then I am happy. Always loved the Muira
"When you're driving a car that's worth more than £1m..." - would love to see the exclusions and the excess on the Tyrrell insurance policy!
At least they know a good repair shop
With a high enough excess/deductible, the premium can be quite reasonable.
A mate has a ridiculous car collection (including a Miura), but his insurance isn’t astronomical, because his excess is!
Stunning. It's amazing to see that you "bed" yourself and the car into each other. Just like a long term owner would. I have a small inkling of this from my years of bike ownership: Take it apart, fix it, try it out gently, feel where it needs attention, attend to those areas, then ease your trust into it. Marvellous. Iain, if I ever hit the big time, I'll be round to your's to fettle my classic. (Don't hold your breath, though! Big time hasn't hit yet.)
2:15 " and here we are on the road "
with a wobbly fog light !
Absolute proper craftmentship!! Miuras, for me, are the best looking cars in the world. Wonderful video to watch.
Brilliant job ! To get an insight view in your workshop is a great honor.
Well done again on a great video. Keep it up.
Fancy telling Ian that that this and that arnt quite right expecting him not to know when he lives and breathes the damn things! Like the camera man never noticed or the viewing by all in the business and all the editing work, 50 people saying the lights moving ....yeah obviously 🙈. 24 min of brilliant TV I say. Vroom Vroom.
Those narrow, slightly twisty roads outside the workshop sure see more than their fair share of exotic cars!
great video, loved it.... i always thought of being in classic car restoration but after 36 yrs as an electrician i think i'll stay with what i know,
Love vintage Lamborghinis with no Audi influence 👍
Good point, well made.
looks absolutely gorgeous, a credit to you and your workers.
throughout the video I was worried about that fog light ...... thinking that it would fall at any moment ...... but you had everything under control ...... incredible jobs ...... greetings from Spain
That's the color I would choose! Fantastic car!
Looks fabulous, Check the offside spotlight though!
I love this episode Tyrell the miura SV it's one of the sexiest cars ever built
Another brilliant video i could watch Ian all day plying his craft....poetry in motion
Props to the crew for the gear graphics 👍🏻 Great stuff and a great video!
Brilliant! Thank you for a behind the scenes walk through of your work on this beautiful car. A job well done and an excellent video. ❤️
My favourite classic super car. This Is amazing to watch! Well done to all of you guys.
For me, visually still the most stunning car built. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
An amazing restoration. When I saw the work on the chassis, it was assembled like an old airplane. And had the same corrosion issues as old airplanes.
I'm glad you fixed the light watching it vibrate was like an itch you can't scratch
It’s a huge responsibility undertaking a restoration with a car of this value, the man puts his reputation on the line, no wonder he sets it up depending on which side of the road it’s driven, just wish he’d look after my VW Touran for me 🤷
Beautiful car and a beautiful restoration. I can't help thinking how small it seems compared to modern vehicles but that's how things were back then. Not so much motor car, more a piece of engineering art and long may it live.
Excellent presentation !
I especially like the passenger's side front 'parking' light jiggle !
Yes that foglight needs a bit of cardboard jammed in it Ian.
I thought the same. Although, wondered if Ian might use Blu Tack on a vehicle of this heritage. :D
@@onefive95 - Good idea, but chewing gum is cheaper
LOL!
No dodgy repairs at this level.
10:26 - if the chap on the pavement had been me then I'd not be chatting with my friend while a Miura drove past. Young people, eh? ;)
Jay Kay had the right idea, what did he say about his Miura? Something like “young kids these days don’t get to see these cars because owners keep them hidden away. They need to be used”
Fantastic work Iain! Thank you for sharing the Miura with us. I know the owner will love it and hopefully drive it a lot to share its beauty with more people.
I wonder how many older chem o-rings from the past could be replaced with Viton equivalents of late. Very nice work, truly, a dream car from my childhood.
It’s like restoring one of the most beautiful paintings or a work of art. Just wow! Couldn’t smash the like button hard enough! Love this channel. Thanks for sharing T!
Driver side fog light shaking a bit at 4:09. Beautiful car!
customer states: driver side fog light loose.... nope!
*Passenger side.
What a truly wonderful watch on a Sunday night. Thank you Mr Tyrrell.
Yesss, when it's happy, i am happy...... time to send the invoice........talking about being happy....
I suppose Mr. Tyrrell noticed the loose right front foglight while editing the video. What a glorious car!
I suppose the guy in the support car did too.
The knowledge an understanding of these cars is second to none... And now the editing has taken a Hugh leap into the 21st century... And Ian even uses his mobile to take notes... I wonder if he realises he can dictate to it instead of writing.
