Honestly when you boil it down I believe that our pets will be in heaven for the same reason I believe a professed Mormon can still get into purgatory. If I understand Aquinas, God had to create finite creatures to allow for human free will. Ergo animals suffered and died before the presence of humans on earth to create the conditions for humans to evolve on earth. When humans chose evil they then inhabited a world prepared for them which would not have existed save for the sacrifice of lower life forms that preceded them.

It makes me wonder if perhaps the legends and folk tales of "talking animals" might have some deeply rooted origins in the mists of prehistory. As a lifelong horseman and farmer I have felt very human-like bonds at times with my horses. A kind of sympathetic unity. It inspires me to always treat my horses with respect, and kindness, and the animals I consume I give thanks to God for the gift of life and strength that I might serve Him this day. I cannot know any of this for certain. Things to ponder. Perhaps the way we treat animals is a reflection of something more, something else.

It's a big if, and not all evidence is sufficient as proof, but that's the case on both sides of this discussion. I'm content enough to want God for His own sake, so I'm comrortable leaving it as a mystery. Having said that, as long as this unconditional desire for a fruitful relationship with God exists, I don't see any issue with hope that your pets, or all creation for that matter, may experience good beyond death, even if it isn't the unique glorified culmination promised to us. God called each part of creation good, and its totality very good. There is no reason I see for it to be impossible that God, who is love itself, would bring that which is good into some continued relationship after death. It's just that we can't know it and can't demand it. But we can still hope.

I have a few animals I'd love to see again
When I was 19 I read Mere Christianity and had a born again experience, before this argument destroyed my faith. Took me years to get back into the church.
I would reframe the question: it's not that God would be unjust to allow dino suffering, it's that it looks more like a messy process with plenty of randomness than something from an intelligent designer, even one who uses physical laws acting a long period of time. It also makes the Bible look more like a purely human work, in that extinct animals weren't addressed because they weren't known about.

How about the idea --just a thought--that even if the creation account in Genesis and parts elsewhere is an attempt at explaining a big idea in an understandable way, the Church is clear that evolution as defined does not lessen God in any way.
Therefore, given the science, is it possible that God "waited" till humans had evolved to the level of intelligence where we started looking for something like God? That is, God "waited" for one of his creatures (us) to develop a desire to know God.
God gave us (officially) the image and likeness first to Adam. This is Church teaching.
Whether there was some progressive development on intelligence before is compatible (and likely). The important part is that Adam (an actual person) got the divine spark. This spark isn't equal to intelligence, which may have evolved over millenia. The Spark is Intellect, which is what gives scientists confidence that they can understand the Universe's secrets, and it is Will, what gives us the confidence that in many ways we can guide our destinies beyond our animal natures (and thus may be justly punished by fines or prison if we choose wrongly, as we CAN choose). Make art, marvels of engineering, and deduct the inner workings Creation.
If I tell you that a pig grew wings and learned to fly in an instant would be just as incredible as if the pig grew those wings over the span of a few years.

I’d suggest reading Blessed Anne Catherine of Emmerich’s visions of Biblical events. She was shown Creation and a myriad of Biblical events. Earth isn’t millions of years old. Our Lord revealed to her how at the time He came to dwell among us, the Earth was only a bit over 4000 years old; 2000 after the Deluge. Dinosaurs or Dragons coexisted with humans. I recommend the Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation. They do a good job at depicting the evidence that the Earth isn’t millions of years old

It’s pretty clear from the sacrificial system, that God does not consider animals as ensouled creatures. He looks at them as part of his universe, The same as a rock or a tree.

Animals don’t have rights. Animals don’t “go” to heaven, because they don’t survive death (whether there will be animals in the “new heavens and new earth” is a separate question). Animals have sensitive souls, not rational souls.
Only rational souls or spirits can inherit the Kingdom of God (they have to at least be the type of creature that can have a rational mind).
Otherwise, God would not have commanded animal sacrifices. Jesus Himself condoned animal sacrifices (He celebrated many Passovers and presumably ate domestic sheep).
This discussion will be unhelpful and confusing to many Christians. Some may now develop scruples about eating meat. It will encourage others to dive further into the cult of loving pets like people. Jimmy’s answer here is too deferential to a marginal theory, and gives too little weight to the common understanding of the Church. Even if some people have legitimate near death experiences and see animal in “heaven”, there are many ways to understand such visions, since we know these experiences are not the actual beatific vision but only a foretaste (maybe a symbolic image to give comfort and peace, for example). Therefore, we should not read too much into NDEs except that our Lord exists, heaven exists, and heaven will be a place of glory and fulfillment.
Childlessness and a lack of meaning in our culture lead some to the worship of animals. Animals are gifts from God like the rest of creation, but our ultimate happiness lies in God alone. We won’t need animals in heaven to be happy.

Animal suffering was part of God's creative act, it was something He was pleased with as "it was very good." Our discomfort and sadness at animal suffering is a post-sin attribute of human nature. God would also consider the intentional infliction of animal suffering as an act of righteousness--survival of the fittest is a lot like dog or cock-fighting. God is intimately and immediately connected to the act of creation. "A righteous man cares for his animals." Evolution, as it is directly from the mind and God is one of the best examples of what it means for a righteous God to care for animals.

Jimmy makes a Utilitarian argument in the perspective of God, which works in the context of the Fall, where evil is a necessary property within reality, but before the Fall, for God to allow any form of evil seems barbaric. This idea that God would allow some sort of evil caused outside of the principal choice of those with free will is absurd. Yes, God is incomprehensible, and has his ways for doing things, but saying that million years long cycle of life and death of creatures to develop into our current existence was necessary, rather than through creatio ex nihilo is just rationally absurd. Jimmy seems to just avoid the question and boil it down to a general question of the problem of evil. The problem of evil is only sufficiently answered by the Christian person through the reality of the Fall, else it produces an insufficiency of reason to justify all evil, without a principle just cause which all evil originates from.

God created a good world; but, the goodness of the world isn't (can't be) unlimited, because the world is not God. Suffering is literally nothing but the subjective experience of that fact: it is what happens when a being encounters the limits of the world's goodness. Therefore there is absolutely nothing wrong with acknowledging the fact that both humans and animals suffer. :)
Even if it turned out that animals don't actually have an afterlife, we can still say that God expresses His kindness towards them, first, by granting them the gift of existence; and second, by providentially caring for them by making them capable of participating in the natural order and having positive experiences.

I wouldn't say they're "entirely" unreliable, fairly speaking. Objectively, they have about the same degree of validity as any other kind of anecdotal evidence: Subject to inaccuracies, distortion, or falsification, but still not entirely devoid of value.
I say this from the perspective of someone who's indifferent to NDEs. I don't really care to what extent they happen to be truly spiritual experiences, and I too would be reluctant to believe something just because it appears in an NDE. I just happen to be a believer in critical, free, unprejudiced inquiry; so I think it's unwarranted both to say that ALL NDEs are "true", or that all NDEs are "false", since both are broad sweeping claims that would seem to be based on personal opinion rather than on an honest analysis of concrete cases and their merits (or lack thereof). 🤷🏻♀

In Genesis 2 when the A-dam names the animals, it not only marks humans God-given authority over the animals but it gives the animals relationship to God through the God's-image bearing humans. The animals DO have relationship to God through the earth's caretakers.
Also Colossians 1 says that Jesus' death reconciled ALL THINGS to God. ALL THINGS means all.
Romans 8 tells us that ALL CREATION stands on tiptoe craning it's neck looking down the road to see the final and full redemption of the Sons and Daughters of God because ALL CREATION knows it will be released from the curse of futility [death/decay].
Not to mention all the prophecies painting a picture of a world put to rights with wolf and lamb and bear and cow existing together - and a little child leading them.
All of those Biblical references may not be conclusive, but they give significant testimony to the idea of an afterlife for all the creatures of the world- remember "For God so loved the cosmos that He gave His only begotten son..."

ok what in the heck? that sounds like saying because Jesus had 33 good years of life, the last few hours were eh who cares. Like have you suffered before??? You don't care about the tally that you were happy and sad in your life when you're abandoned and alone and left to your pain and being eaten. God cares about you in those moments when from your perspective you're in hell, and he knows how to weigh that properly when He's judging. Idk man that doesn't sound right at all. I like to think animals get to understand their suffering in context in the next life, like think about all the happy lambs in Heaven. And think about dogs, who science is discovering have emotions that are extremely similar to ours. Think about how happy they will be to understand how many people loved them and cried for them when they were hurting when there was nothing we could do for them. Think about dog fighting. In my area of the world there is a sick and disgusting trend of people's pet dogs being stolen to use as bait dogs. If that's not pure evil I don't know what is. Imagine the state of those sweet dogs who might have just learned to love and trust their families after being rescued, only to be torn away from them and subjected to utter brutality until the end, without ever understanding why. And then think about those families. For some people, their dogs are like their children, and they receive love from their dogs when they believe they are utterly unlovable, and they bring their owners literally back to life, convincing them that they are worth something. You think that wasn't God's hand?? Now think about the state of the people responsible for the dogfights and stealing the dogs. Think about the absolute spiritual and emotional poverty that leads a person to do something like that to a whole family and break so many hearts and destroy a little life, and start another 30 on fire. Who does something like that? I'll tell you. Someone whose life was set on fire first. Someone who was innocent and scared and was targeted and preyed upon by evil until they weren't a human being anymore. The people Christ came to save, to embrace, to make whole again. You know what those dogs are going to do to those people after they die? They are going to wag their tails and lick them LOVE them, and they are going to hold those dogs and weep just like every mentally ill person whose ever rescued a dog and loved them and held them and cried until they couldn't cry anymore. That is what will happen. Puppy purgatory, that is my official personal theory about what happens to those dogs. Don't say animal pain gets canceled by animal joy though because you'll end up in puppy purgatory imo.

The evidence for dinosaurs is all archaeological, from which very few things can be known for sure. As with all things, the world of science is often too confident in putting forth its conjectures. But if God exists, which we have more evidence for in miracles and such, then he created animals each in their own kind and left it at that. Nothing else makes sense according to a picture with God in it. That all being said, the least we can conclude is that there is more evidence for God than dinosaurs, so why use the less proven fact to disprove the more proven one? People are not competent enough to even put forth arguments. We are wasting time as a culture.

The idea that "millions of years" is nonsensical from a biblical theistic perspective. Forget about dinosaurs. Scripture says that land animals were created on day 6 of creation along with man, and scripture also says that through sin, death came into the world, thus the premise that dinosaurs existed, lived, and died before Adam was created is contradictory to God's word. You can't proclaim to believe that the bible is breathed by God Himself into the prophets and then deny the creation account as God says it happened. Just because a bunch of scientists manipulate the data to fit their often anti-religious worldview does not mean that they are correct. They have been proven wrong many more times than the bible has. In fact, the bible has never been proven wrong, while scientists are proven wrong literally all the time. The truth is, with all of the knowledge we have accumulated over the last several centuries of modern science, we still don't know sh*t about nature as a whole. We think we do, but that's just our pride and arrogance. As Paul said in his letter to the church in Rome, "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man."

Animals don't have immortal souls. No resurrection for them. Also they aren't capable of doing moral acts. No charity, no faith, no good works etcetera. Jesus didn't come to die for dogs on the cross to open heaven to them. Another very uncatholic idea by Jimmy, unfortunately.
