    I have in mind to post some new free videos on you tube by using this kind of sewing.
    Therefore to not repeat the same I've considered important to share this basic information as a review/reminder to understand the new upholstery projects I'd post on youtube.
    I hope you enjoy it!

    You are the best! No question about it. Anyone who can’t take great info from your videos I don’t know what else they should do. You have the best instruction without saying a word.
    A question from me that might be long and detailed but I’m experimenting now with making bags (nylon) and (leather) is it best to use close stitches on the first part of flat felled seam then finish with the top stitch on that flat felled seam to spread the stitch out so the thread goes to a different hole from the first stitch of that seam?..... or on leather bags do you only need 1 stitch and no need to flat fell seam because of the leather being a stonger material? (Note that I am using 5oz leather on my bag (2mm) but stacking the leather together can be maybe 3 layers of 5 or 6oz with a totally of possibly 18-20oz of leather with lining. What is he best way to sew these bags with best construction method possible? I know putting multiple holes in leather can weaken it. I can’t really find this info anywhere and you are the best I know even though you are the upholster Jesus. I want to
    Construct the best strongest stuff possible and know principles can be used from multiples fields in textiles. As always Thankyou for the help.
    -Greg

      @Cechaflo  Před 6 lety

      Dear Greg, Although I am an upholsterer, perhaps, I could give you some ideas for what you are trying to do.
      If you are going to use heavy leathers, it means you are going to work in the saddlery field with 'vegetable tanned leathers'.
      You have in mind to manufacture 'leather bags' which would have a thickness of 6 mm approx. hence the traditional way of sewing thinner leather pieces (1.2 to 1.3 mm thick) will not work out because it would be difficult to fold the seams in order to sew on top the 'flat felled stitches'.
      IMHO, I think for this kind of job to sew the pieces together a good way would be by attaching the edges together and hand stitch them same way most of leather artisans do it. Another faster way would be the use of a 'super heavy duty sewing machine'...this method would be the best to manufacture the heavy leather bags.
      I would like to add that 'binding' and 'piping' would also work for these kind of bags.
      Perhaps I am wrong with my opinion because I am just imagining without examining or having in real one of these items.
      I have realized to sew leather bags it is advisable a 'cylinder bed sewing machine'. This machine could work as flat bed if a wood table is added. Some of them come with this additament. Therefore you would have two machines in one.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello Brandy, Thanks so much for appreciating these videos! Yes, the technique could be applied on small projects. In case of purses, to ease the procedure it would be advisable the use of a 'cylinder bed sewing machine'.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před 6 lety

      As far as I know, there are three kind of 'staplers' very useful to do basting in upholstery : light duty, medium duty and heavy duty. I bought mine at Home Depot.

      Sometimes the creases are natural flaws.

    my biggest problem as a beginner is that when I start a stitch I very often get a nest of thread when I start trying to do the lock stitch, also when I reach the end if I stitch beyond the fabric it also causes a mess, though I see you sometime stich past the fabric and cause no issue.
    Great videos, helped me alot. whats the glue?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před 7 lety +1

      Try to check if you're using the appropriate needle for the right size of thread. Some machines also cause this issue when they're out of time.
      I use a yellow glue most of the upholsterers and shoemakers use it. If you're in USA, please, check:

      I had the same problem at the begining of my stitch and by sticking a coin down behind the foot with basting tape you can wrap both treads around it before starting the stitch it will keep the thread tight and out of tre way and pull out as you continue to sew

    • @sartorst3376
      @sartorst3376 Před 5 lety

    My biggest challenge is cutting patterns and keeping an even stitch. Any tips?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před 7 lety +1

      To keep an even stitch the keys are a 'low speed' and a 'guide'...in this case my guide is the 'small foot' (open zipper foot with two indents/cuts I did on purpose) which should be aligned with the 'central closing sewing line'...if you watch min 14:31 you would realize I'm 'using' the back protruding part of the foot.

      It's a 'binding feet' or 'zipper feet'. They come this way. It can also be done intentionaly by using a dremel mototool cutting one of the legs.
