So, Maia Campbell was amazing back in the day for sure. She got her first role in a film playing Lucky’s cousin in Poetic Justice, then she went on to star in other 90’s hits including Thea, South Central, Beverly Hills, 90210, and so on. But of course, her most standout role was alongside Debbie Allen and LL Cool J in In The House. I mean back in the day she was a real baddie, and by far one of the most gorgeous women of the 90s, but somewhere along the way, Maia started using heavily and totally lost it! Like she was always getting arrested for something and was always strung out in multiple videos that went viral on social media.

Man nobody knows what that woman went through in the Hollywood industry. Knowing what we know now about the industry and how dark and the things that these people have done behind closed doors, Lord knows what that young woman had to go through. Men and women have black balled into doing things that they shouldn't be doing. But when those powers that be have control over you and what you can and can't do, and are locked in are locked in bogus contracts. Everybody's not a Kanye, everybody's not a Jaguar Wright, and that's just the name a few that have stood up to the industry. You don't know how many women, actors, actresses or singers or rappers are in those type of predicaments.

I read her Mom’s Book 72 hour hold. It was about her dealing with Maya’s mental illness. Such a tragic life and then her Mom died of cancer. So sad.

It does continued harm when content creators also choose to circulate it on the internet because the same story is disseminated over and over again, years after first reported. As I've stated, she could have recovered from this but the internet won't let her past die, if that be the case.
My family saw her back in like 2017 at QT gas station here in Georgia. We couldn’t believe it was her, I totally didn’t believe until I looked closely. Seeing her like that made me want to cry. My prayer go out to her for a better and more productive life.
Unfortunately with the length of time that has passed with her being a daily user I fear that her mental capacity to recover may be lost. Clearly all she probably cares about now is getting her next high and where it's going to come from. I know people go through things in life and times are hard but Maia was not supposed to be in this situation. It's just beyond sad to see one of our most distinguished sisters in trouble like this.😔😭😭😭

Unfortunately I met her while working in a Ga jail and while she does suffer from drug abuse, her mental illness is the reason. I pray she receives the healing she so desperately needs. Maia didn't just start using drugs to have fun. She has bipolar disorder and has been self-medicating. Mental illness is a real beast. I loved BeBe Moore Campbell, her mother, as an author and read her book "72 Hour Hold".

Actually she may not have had bipolar but she was put on those meds where they can cause the very thing they should supposedly help.

I have a hunch that Maia's descent started when her mom abruptly died from cancer. It seems like Maia was grief-stricken & lacked the coping skills & turned to hard drugs & got hooked. God is able.
She's still alive God isn't finish with her yet, I will continue to lift her up. We fall down and we get up, God is the miracle granting Ministry.

The crazy thing is, some of them belong there [for whatever their journey in life is calling them there for]. They've exhausted all of their resources. I have a cousin who our whole family supported and catered to. He was lazy/ unmotivated and always under the influence. We never let him go without. Why did he steal from us and SA our children? Other people's children as well? Now he has no family because he abused us, does he belong on what ever street corner he is on? You tell me.

Me from the UK, I definitely remember Maia Cambell from the South Central Comedy that I used to watch back in the late 1990s. Showbusiness is not the real world so there is always the possibility that Artists, musicians, and actors take drugs to, kill the pain of their personal problems and also to maintain the illusion, and deception of the celebrity lifestyle. Always talented, attractive, and intelligent I pray that Maia Cambell gets through the challenges she is currently facing.
I still watch “In the house” all the time. She was so beautiful and a decent actress on there. I also read her mother’s book “72 hour hold” and couldn’t put it down. I’m sure it was a reflection of their real relationship. Wishing Maia the best ❤

I remember her fondly. Praying she gets the help she needs. Living with a mental illness is no joke and it can be hard to tell what you want or where you want to go. Everything can change in a second especially if you’re surrounded by those who don’t have your best interest at heart. You can feel like you deserve that and then the downhill spiral starts which is hard to recover from. When she is actually ready, she will accept the help. I won’t give up hope that she will one day accept the help she needs to get better.
She was literally one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. Mental illness combined with losing her mother….Whew!!! Those are not winning combinations. Life is difficult enough without those issues. I would love to see her all healed up and ready to face the world again!!!

She was the Cat’s meow when I was growing up! Boys in school watched the show “In The House” because she was on it💯 I was shocked to see those early videos of her strung out. I heard that when her mother passed away was the reason she really took a nose dive. So I thought she fell off so badly because she couldn’t deal with her mother death. I lost my mom too, early in life, so I couldn’t imagine the pain she must’ve dealt with 😢
If you read this Maia you are still beautiful! You are still talented, smart, strong and a good person. Everyone in this world has something they don’t like about themselves and everyone in this world handles their problems with their life differently. Nobody can tell you how to help yourself but you. Medication doesn’t really help them it just sedates them and they hate that that’s why they go and just roam the streets so that they don’t have to take those terrible medicines to conform to society, and they just live in their heads.
Same here my dad was schizophrenic and it was a challenge growing up. He was a great dad that struggled with mental Illness. This is sad. My dad passed a few years ago and I loved him even through the episodes he would have.

She used to be in my neighborhood all the time. It was sad seeing her in that state. Everyone dealt with her out of respect of who she is/was. Yep, right off Redan/Hairston/Rockbridge. My kids swore that they saw her. I had no idea that my kids knew who she was bc that was my era. About another week or so after that, I saw her in the neighborhood. I hope she gets it together eventually
I think it was her mom's death that drove her over the edge. She may have had some bi-polar issues, but her mom was probably the one who made sure that she was stable. I hope she gets herself together. She is a beautiful young woman, and when she gets herself cleaned up and made up, she looks like nothing has ever happened to her. I hope she will accept the help that has been offered to her.

I'm bipolar. It's very common for us to not take our meds. It isn't on purpose. We feel like they don't work because they make us people we aren't. Imagine feeling like that. Imagine not being yourself, but you have no choice... We often turn to drugs and/or alcohol because it is what allows us to get out our heads for a feel small time frame. I can't speak on her situation, but coming from the general consensus, those is how it is

OMG! I am so sorry for them. I love Maia and her mom was one of my favorite writer. Her books are so layerd, her words well chosen, her stories compelling. I didn't know it was her mother. Maia is one face I always remembered. It is sad and we pray that she heals and get her condition under control to live well.
During that show, she sounded like she really wanted to be better, though, spoke like a she was reading a perfect script.

Alot of the time celebrities go thru alotta pain with the tricks & trades of H-Wood. She may have seen something or may was forced to do something she didn't wanna do. Because of jealousy, & envy, miserable ones will do most anything to destroy. & what better way to do that than to tarnish a gorgeous melanated young Queen on the uprising of success. I'm pretty sure HALF OF THE INDUSTRY wanted to get down with her & she probably wasn't with that at the time. They love to take advantage of young, tender talent.

Maia is not struggling because of the industry. Maia is struggling because she refuses to take the medication that will bring normalcy to her life. Maia continues to make one bad choice after another, and her addiction supersedes help from her family and friends. You can't help someone who really doesn't want help. It's sad. I am praying for this woman. However, I have a sister in the identical situation. My sister has always had the support of her family, but her love for heroin has twisted our love into betrayal and dishonesty. Maia, like my sister, has the support of her family. However, Maia has to want help and want a better life. Once she stops being the victim and realizes the strength she has, nothing can be done by the family except to wait.
You sound like the one with a problem. People who has these issues Dnt know how to choose from the choices many can. Understand this fully or stay lost like many people who see things from a distance. If you’re not experiencing wht she is going through personally, you can give your opinions as facts. I hope your sister heals. The problem can be the family around her not understanding fully n treating your sister like the outsider no one really understands.
The real problem here is that even if Maia takes the medication to give herself a chance at a normal way of life she still mentally knows how great those narcotics make her feel and it's that one element that is going to forever keep her in the spiral of permanent addiction. This is the precise reason why so many people can't get clean in the first place. It's the memory of using the drugs itself that must be destroyed.
The hell you know about having a mental problem and not want to take the medications, that make you sleep all day or feel like a zombie.. it sounds like she tried to self medicate and got caught up. marijuana can mask the symptoms of mood disorders, for a little bit until it doesn’t. Don’t you think that she was trying to feel better as an artist and still have her creative control. She was avoiding medication that took that from her and she just fell in a hole. She didn’t do anything wrong, her only mistake was her existence.

The drug abuse like in many addicts is a coping mechanism to deal with a sick brain and usually not the cause of the sorry situation most street people are in.
Drugs and alcohol are merely a coping mechanism and not the root cause of their conditions..
She was doing ok, acting, working in the 90's because most mental illnesses don't start to outwardly exhibit signs until the late teenage years to late 20's.
That's when you start seeing obvious signs of a sick person, which is when her life started spiraling out of control..

😔The issue here is that for all the people who watched Maia on tv and in movies during her reign in the 90s this was the absolute last thing you would of expected to see happen to her.😩
The most unfortunate part about her addiction to drugs is that even if she goes through a drug treatment program and gets clean she still knows mentally how those drugs make her feel and it's that very feeling that keeps a person hooked on them.
So you see in order to cure drug addiction you would at a minimum have to somehow erase the memory of ever even doing the drugs in the first place for a person to have the best chance from relapsing. As long as a person possesses the mental capacity in understanding how good those drugs makes them feel even after a 12 step program is complete that person will never truly be clean from doing them again.
For all who took the time to read this if you're looking for the honest truth regarding the subject matter then I just gave it to you and that's a fact!!!!! Maia is in serious trouble and it would take an extremely highly form of intervention for her to make a full recovery. This is beyond prayer, the community as a collective has to step in and handle it and Maia has to be a more than willing focused participant. It's really that simple.👌
I totally agree. I think of ways that could help my family member who battling addiction and hypnosis came to mind, that and having a support system of people 24/7
@@carmel23 Hypnosis is a great place to start for sure. Maia needs to return to a place somewhere in the mid 90s to remember how special her image was during her time on television and in films. An intervention is going to have to happen in order for her to get clean. She's going to have to be forced into a facility to get clean and then stay there for at least a year to be monitored and most importantly be denied any drugs that can get her high again. That's the only true way to fix her is to remove her from society for a while. Basically put her in prison without the consequences of a real prison. It will be tough but it's necessary so that she can have a chance to be the star she always was in the beginning of her career.👍😎👌
@behappyenterprises9201 I'm sorry to bust your bubble but prayer for Maia was implemented many years ago when she started the drugs. It's an unfortunate personal decision for her that she chose this path. I can imagine God doesn't really want to have anything else to do with it at this point because God is not even being met halfway. A fool has to quit their foolishness first before they can be spiritually helped in a genuine way. If she can do her part seriously then she might have a chance to recover and if not then it's over period.👌

First and foremost, I believe losing her mother best selling author Bebe Moore Campbell to brain cancer in 2006 had a devastating effect on Maia because if there's anyone we can count on who will give us their last dollar and will love us even if we don't love ourselves is a "good mother". It's obvious her mother's last novel "72 Hour Hold" was influenced by her own struggles with Maia. It was heart breaking to see Maia's estranged relationship with her own daughter. I wonder what Tyrese Gibson thinks of Maia's fate since she was the star of both videos for his 1999 hits "Sweet Lady" and "Lately".

Loved Her Mom too "BEBE Moore Campbell!" Funny thing is that I read many, many stories her Mother contributed to Essence Magazine. Really broke my heart when her Mom passed and I believe this was the start of Maia addictions, as she was trying to deal with her Mom's passsing. Since it's been a while, since we last heard about Maia's struggles, I assumed that all has gotten better with her, especially since she's much older now! Most times, maturity can help overcome many bad mistakes, poor judgements, or those everyday life challenges that can bring one down..🙏
