My uncle died of AIDS & when I tell the discrimination was real… no one wanted to help him. Because it was the 80s, ppl thought that you could catch it being in the same room. It was very sad. 💔
They thought that thanks to Fauci.
Calling it discrimination is wrong. FEAR is a better word. You make it seem as if people hated a person because they had it.
@@HardCold-Alquan It wasn't fear it was discrimination..a lot of religious zealots considered the disease to be God's reckoning with Homosexuals.. Everyone who got the disease was considered to be promiscuous.

I worked at a dental office in the 90’s. We were told, by an oral surgeon we referred a patient to, that the patient had full blown aids. The assistant, that usually prepped him, freaked out when he came into the office for follow up. The office was small and I was empathetic to what the patient may have been feeling. I told her she had already assisted him unknowingly, and this time she can take the necessary precautions. She kept freaking out. I snatched his chart and said I’d do it. I did not want him to feel worse than he already did.
I’m surprised you snatched the chart instead of showing e pearly towards your employee that shows lack of compassion on your part. I wouldn’t want to help either. Additionally based on HIPAA law you should not be disclosing your patients medical information ma’am.

It was terrible the way the media threatened to run the story on Ashe. In today's world the media would be hit with a major lawsuit for violating Ashe's Right to Privacy.
The stigma of HIV?AIDS was just as deadly as the disease itself.
Could’ve been worse: Just imagine if social media was around back then!
Yesss! His privacy was completely violated and he didn’t even have a say so.
Another sad fact: The @$$hole who was gonna spill the beans on Ashe would probably be rewarded with their own show on Fox or Newsmax, instead of vilified and fired like they should have!

The disease scared me as a child and I pray although it is not necessarily a death sentence now, that people still act responsibly. @@TheEsquireofSports212I was a new, young Nurse in the mid 1980's. HIV/AIDS was a death sentence then. My very first Nursing assignment was on a HIV/AIDS unit and I can remember how my patients with HIV/AIDS suffered so terribly, the virus ravaged their bodies, they looked like skeletons even though they were still alive. And the weakness..... They were sooooo weak....I used to help them get on the bedside commode, from the bed to the commode right next to the bed, and they were so weak... often they would die just sitting on the commode or sitting up in bed....the smallest movement would push them over the edge and they would die so quickly. HIV/AIDS is NO JOKE and people need to take this virus SERIOUSLY. Nowadays, people have become willy nilly about this virus and we have minimized it's danger by calling HIV/AIDS a CHRONIC disease and now we have medications and PreExposure Prophylaxis but I tell you, having HIV /AIDS is NO JOKE. There used to be blood testing before you could get a marriage license and that became a thing that few remember. Never learned why it was halted.
They were requiring it in NYC a decade ago not sure if that is still true or what other states have it as a requirement.
To depopulate
True but you can asks in some states I did and ( myself Pamela) husband Napolean gotten one before Married They mailed the results out too us.. And all didnot gets from blood neither.....
Why should anyone who wants to get married a marriage license for a religious ceremony?

Have any of you on this chat ever seen someone waste away from HIV/AIDS or gone to the AIDS/HIV hospital wards in the beginning of the epidemic to visit any patients...it was horrible the way they were treated.
Yes I use to take care of them at home 😢😢😢
Yes, was in nursing school during the epidemic
No thank god i did not
This was awesome to hear. Being poz for 44 years now, I see behind the veils, and it's beautiful to see how the families honored they're wishes.
I remember hearing about Ryan White. My daughter who had many blood transfusions in 1983 acquired hiv from them and from my breast milk. She and I would often wage bets as to how we were gonna outlive Ryan...well..I'm left here ad she and Ryan are whole. God bless you all who struggle and yet thrive , who have lost and overcome..daily..I am inspired at all the courage I've seen tonight. Thank you

When I saw Sylvester, it just took me back to a time when being trans was actually a non-issue! I am heterosexual, and believe me when I say this, had Sylvester came to my city, EVERYBODY would have been in the House! We loved him, and he should never be forgotten! RIP my love!
I ❤ Sylvester. His spirit alone. So talented and beautiful

It was never a non issue, trust me. I didn't think he was trans anyhow
Sylvester dress feminine. But he was buried wearing a pink kimono and red lipstick.

I am a gay man who came of age during the AIDS crisis. I was young, and it was still early. It only happened to someone else is how young people felt back then. Young people will always feel like they're invincible to the world. Then reality hit, and I saw many friends wither away and die. Too many to count. Somehow I never got it, and I am still here almost 40 years later.
By The Grace of God. Sometimes God allows us to live long enough to learn what our end could’ve been, and give us a chance to make it right with Him. I pray that you come out of that lifestyle and give your life to Christ. Homosexuality is a sin against God.

I was in my teens when the aids virus hit the world. Nobody knew what it was or how you could get it. "You can get by shaking someone's hand. You can get it when you drink from someone's glass." A guy I grew up with across the street was dying in his bed in the living room. We were scared to death. The eighties had a lot of major problems. This disease. The cold war. Tsjernobyl. Yet here you are 40 years later apparently living a life. 80's Not so bad after all. Just so all y'all know... Ronald Reagan refused to allow any funding to go to researching Aids, so it was an uphill battle that Dr. Fauchi faced alone. What that man has gone through to help humanity.
