What a fine day to remember yet another celebrity who was sadly completely ruined by Hollywood. Of course, you guys remember Lark Voorhies from when she played fashion-forward teen Lisa Turtle on the '80s and '90s sitcom, Saved by the Bell.
Of course, you guys remember Lark Voorhies from when she played fashion-forward teen Lisa Turtle on the '80s and '90s sitcom, Saved by the Bell. Personally, I think that Lisa Turtle was absolutely stunning on the show with her style, beauty, and attitude. In fact, looking back at some episodes today it’s clear that Lisa was also an underrated style icon. However, after a few more years of small TV roles here and there, it became hard for her to land a role in anything no matter how hard she tried and eventually, she just disappeared from Hollywood.
She was the dopest, illest, prettiest, sassiest, smartest, and most talented of them all.😊

I am speechless. There are no words to describe how my heart goes out to her and Maia Campbell. They were the quintessential "it girls" of the 90's. Now, this is what they have been reduced to. I blame their communities, Hollywood, and themselves as well. I just pray that they both can rise above their own internal struggles, and come out shining bright as the diamonds that they are. Childhood trauma can be a contributing factor to mental illness so I think that Hollywood played a part.

It definitely could have contributed, but her illness has a huge genetic component. She wouldn’t have developed it if she didn’t have those genes. It’s really bad luck and it’s terribly misunderstood.
Her overall health is more important than Hollywood will ever be. I hope that she continue to stay on her path of being and staying healthy. ❤

Kelly/Tiffany said she kept in touch with everyone through the years, except for Lark. But I understand. I had a friend with paranoid schizophrenia, who wasnt taking his meds, and whenever we ran into his old acquaintances, they acted like they wanted to avoid him. Things like that changes relationships. I don't think her castmates intended to be rude or excluded her in condescent. They just don't know how to interact with her in her debilitating condition.
I don’t think her cast mates shamed her. They can’t control those decisions. I never heard anything about her cast mates shaming her. It’s not easy dealing with someone , even your closest friends, even relatives, adult children etc. with mental illness. When they are resisting help and are in denial

it has to be so hard to watch women who are not as talented and not as beautiful get work while you are held back. she was just as talented and just as beautiful as her other female co-stars, but they both got major movie rolls post-Saved and she didn't.
This woman was and still is beautiful. I pray that whatever she is going through, she recovers %110! We all go through things and we all encounter phases in our lives that are challenging. She was very young with so much talent that many grown women do not and just cannot embody. I pray that this is her season to make all of the naysayers eat their words. Lark was so cute and adorable back in the "Saved By The Bell" days. I was not much of a fan of the show, but I loved her acting. I wished to see her on many other things.
I think she had struggles in life like we all do, we just saw hers on a more public level. I hope she is doing well now.
Not that she was a token (casting wanted her despite the fact that Lisa Turtle was written as a White-Jewish character) but Black characters on predominantly White shows often had me watching regardless of the shows' appeal. The most severe case of this was my watching bits and pieces of S Club 7 because of Bradley Mcintosh. Lol
They excluded her because she wasn't mentally stable at the time. It's not difficult to understand. I wish her healing and happiness!

Lark is in my prayers. It hurt to see her in such disarray and struggling to communicate. In the last reboot, she seemed to have it together. I’m guessing she was on a good combination of medication. Bless you Lark.

You don't have any idea of what mental illness can do to someone and what it is like to deal with someone who has mental illness, and refuses to believe they are suffering from it. It's a NIGHTMARE!

No, it isn't. Her choices, and the fact that she was no longer in the limelight, despite wanting to be, is what contributed to her mental break. If she truly suffered one in the first place and wasn't using that to get the attention her fake sex tape didn't get her.

I'm mad at whoever did Lark's makeup during those engagements, post Saved By The Bell. Those makeup artisis were embarrassing her in many different ways. But I see that her makeup and fashion gotten better. I always watched SBTB for see Lisa as she was one of the few representatives of Black Hollywood during that time. The producers did her dirty for those reunion shows. They absolutely judged her and her castmates are jacked up for not even acknowledging her existence. Still got love for her no matter what!❤

Lark's eccentric look and behavior was already out in the public's eye. Her mother was trying to protect her image by dispelling drug rumors, and trying to provide a logical explanation for her bizarre behavior. She meant no harm!

For some people their coping mechanism is being immersed in their art. Losing the show and acting gigs coming to a halt for her probably triggered the symptoms we saw. Like Britney, she’s actually probably more comfortable on stage/in front of cameras as her routine when she wants it and hopefully is able to shield herself from the pitfalls/parties etc she seems to be healing well

I’m glad they eventually got her back on the show. She done well. There’s no doubt Hollyweird ruins people mentally and physically. But I also think it takes a certain type of person to want a showbiz career, and that makes them vulnerable and susceptible.

Some time ago, she admitted that she had been taken advantage of, sexually, during her Saved by the Bell days and she could not say anything because of who the person was. I truly believe this is what has plagued her and she has not gotten the help that she needs. Hence her bout with mental illness.
When I was growing up in college, I saw behavior similar to hers as a result of taking acid. People used to put acid in the punch at parties. Most people shook off the effects the next day. A few, however, lost touch with reality and talked crazy before they dropped out of school. My former roommate was on a baseball scholarship and tried acid. He was kicked off the team after missing practice over and over. My ex brother-in-law did the same thing in college and he also was kicked off the baseball team he was on. Neither found employment afterwards. I am 72 and have seen this before. They all think they are sane and everybody else is crazy.

Something similar happened to a relative in the late 80s early 90s. My stepdads first son (i never got to meet him before he passed).He went away to college on a scholarship and at his first party he drank something that messed him completely up. He had to come home and was institutionalized. There is research that claims if you are predisposed to mental health issues even drugs like marijuana can cause you to experience to longterm mental issues. Unfortunately, many people don't know they are predisposed to certain things until they start having symptoms.

She got the talents , personalities n the looks but sadly when you battle with mental disorders without knowing or admitting to get help it can takes the best out of you numbers of years but it takes times to recovers. I think compounded trauma is what contributed to Larks battles with mental health. The intersectionality’s of being both a woman and a woman of color in and of itself places one at a higher risk of victimization and mental illness.
I loved watching Saved By The Bell!. Lisa was one of my favorite characters.

Unfortunately Lark is like millions of people living with severe mental health issues. She seems to be on and off medication which can make each episode worse. She will need antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, and LOTS of good people support. Fingers crossed for her ❤

In my lifetime, I have never met someone named Lark, that's a every unique name.
I think it's easier for people in Hollywood to try to self medicate. It's pretty clear when Lark was either self medicating or not medicating at all. Mental illness is not an easy thing to deal with, especially when you're in the spotlight. I pray she gets the help she needs, she clearly is dealing with something.
