    Yes, what really triggered George was the fact that Dr. Monroe, specifically, was going to "treat" Charlotte. He knows what that mans "treatments" are like (ice baths, shock therapy, leaches etc...). In the book he freaks out and goes into another fit (his worst episode yet) because he doesn't want that doctor anywhere near Charlotte and his unborn child in fear of them having to go through what he did. Also, the doctor purposely triggered George here in hopes he would need him again and he could continue torturing the King. He is evil!!!

    Don't kick yourself. The writing was designed to make the viewer have misconceptions. That is what happens when you don't have all the facts. Shonda is a genius. This series is an emotional roller coaster and I am here for it!

    Barber Surgeons were legitimate medical professionals. Barbers had steady hands and owned sharp razors…so they were used as doctors too. Dr Thomas Monro was a real life physician who was brought in front of the House of Commons to testify about his inhumane, cruel and useless treatment of patients at Bethlehem in the 1810s. Nicknamed Bedlam, it is a notorious horrendous madhouse. The dialogue between his character and the Royal Physicians is quite an accurate piece of exposition. “Balancing the humors” with leeches, blistering, etc. was also a legit medical practice back then, and had been in some form for centuries. We now consider it ludicrous, of course. One doctor mentioned trepanation in that scene in the round - it required drilling a hole into a patients skull. Early on it was to “let out the evil spirits”. But the practice was still lightly used “scientifically” into the 20th century. These men had no idea what they were doing. Lobotomies still took place too recently to even believe. There is a painful and horrendous history of experimentation and torture inflicted on humans in medicine and humane mental health care is quite brand new, with more improvements still needed. Shonda definitely did her research.

      Even until recent times, some branches of the medical profession even attempted lobotomies on gay males… in futile attempts to “remove” their homosexuality & “cure” them. [shudder]

    In the book we learn Reynolds and George grew up together. He was the first to see George have a fit and he protected him from his abusive grandfather. He loves George, but he's not in love with him. Just very protective. He's only about a month older than George.
    That evil doctor knows George's biggest fear is for Charlotte to witness a fit and leave him.
    No, his condition is still not known. The debate continues.

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I don't think will ever fully know. But the most common theory in current day is that he had bipolar 1 which can often have symptoms of psychosis. And I believe that that is what Corey, George's actor, was using as a diagnosis in the show so they could portray it accurately. He says that he did have a specific diagnosis in mind when preparing for the role and he mentioned a specific book he read for preparation. So yeah I think the show also was trying to portray bipolar 1... But yeah it was such a long time ago and I don't think we'll ever actually know 100% what he had. We can only make guesses.

As someone who has siblings who struggle with mental health it is quite accurate how he is seperating himself from Charlotte cause he feels he needs to protect. Doesnt mean it wasnt hard for her. I appreciate your comment about Princess Augusta ignoring how it affects Charlotte. I feel like its ignored how it affects those we love. I really am enjoying your reactions .

    First before we get into the episode, your make-up is on point! you look gorgeous girl 👌🏼Now that doctor is a satanic, sadist quack! The moment he called the King "Boy" I knew he was on a power trip, he's loving having control of the King of England. I think Reynolds, the Kings man has been with George most of his adult life. He knows and keeps George's secrets and makes sure no one else does. If you listen to George speaking to the doctor he hasn't had an easy childhood. No spoiler but we are gonna get more info on his childhood in the next episode, it's not good. George's mother as well as the doctor are both triggers for him. He had an episode after each visit with her😢 Charlotte is the one! The fact that she didn't go running when she saw him in he garden, instead she took control and handled the situation and him so loving and calm. Her reaction tells me that she has real feelings for George. She has the right to be upset and go on his mother, I'm just happy she didn't go on George because he is ill and can't control himself. And if her voice is the only calming one, I want it to continue being just that for him. I'm here for the remaining two episodes, can't wait for your reactions.

    We still don’t know what George had today, it’s been a guess between bipolar and acute porphyria which is a blood disorder some of the symptoms include those seen on George: behavioral changes, seizures, etc. and the older he got he began having others like dementia and he even went blind. He really went through it.

    I've been doing a little research on King George and Queen Charlotte. Charlotte really did give birth to 15 children - insane!!! King Geroge was born in the wrong century and suffered dearly for it! I really wish the story was more like the Shondaland version, but all the horror were real, which included slavery unfortunately. Humanity can be so disgusting at times. I think the Monroe wanted his methods to work on the King so he could boast about it and get more people to torture! Michelle and India gave me life in that argument scene!! Also, the song was was DeJa'Vu!

    • @JoiLouiseReacts

      History is such a interesting and dark journey. He definitely was born in the wrong century. The scary thing is Monro wasn’t the first or even last of his kind. I love how Charlotte laid into George’s mother. How terrible a thing to do because your embarrassed or afraid. Charlotte should have been told the truth. Or at least her brother.

    George’s mom really got on my nerves in this episode. She is so busy trying to keep his illness a secret so he won’t lose his position as king, but her actions and the pressure she puts on him are triggering him and making it worse. Then at the end where she was basically saying Charlotte shouldn’t complain about being tricked into marrying a man with a severe mental illness and just be grateful because she came from “nowhere” 😒 And George feeling like he had no choice but to go back to that sadistic doctor was heartbreaking

    • @JoiLouiseReacts
      @JoiLouiseReacts  Před rokem +2

      Same! The way she spoke to Charlotte was personally triggering for me. Someone telling to be grateful in a situation that is unfair and completely unacceptable. I was gutted when George overheard the conversation because Charlotte was well within her rights to say EVERYTHING she said. Ugh! What an episode! 😫

  • @isoldejaneholland8370

    I thought the same thing sbout horses, until a few years ago when I befriended a miniature horse breeder. Now I'm an expert! 😂 (Yeah, right.)
    Dr. Munro is a complete sadist. This show is not a great showcase for the medical profession, with Charlotte's obstetrician declaring that it's normal to bleed like a sieve in birth. George and Lady Danbury had to deliver the baby themselves and save her life.

    • @JoiLouiseReacts
      @JoiLouiseReacts  Před rokem +1

      Hello, love!!!! So I ended up Googling it after the episode and saw that their kidneys can go into failure which can cause death if they lie down too long. 😥
      The Obstetrician! Yes, let’s talk about that. Charlotte could have died had her husband not intervened with his knowledge of his animals being breech.
      Definitely a low point for the medical world.
