    Vietnam is one of the few countries that is benefiting from the New SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. While almost every country is facing a colossal recession, Vietnam will not only continue to grow economically but is attracting a lot of new business. Companies such as Apple, Google, and Samsung, which have factories in China, are moving some of their production to this Southeast Asian country.
    The reasons for this success are the more than outstanding management of the pandemic, Trump's trade war, and, of course, the so-called "Doi Moi": the Vietnamese economic reform program that began in 1986, and which opened the Vietnamese economy to international markets.
    But how has this success occurred? To what extent could 2020 be a turning point in Vietnam's history? In this video, we'll tell you.

      I have been a huge fan of VisualPolitik for a long time. I used to consider you guys as a reliable source. This video has made me doubts everything I have learnt from you guys. The data of covid cases and deaths in Vietnam is collected only by the Ministry of Health. There is no independent reporting. Because it is not allowed. Why is that? Yet you believe this statistics from an authoritarian state without a single doubt and any attempts to contextualise it. This is completely the opposite of what you are supposed to be doing. I am truly very disappointed..

If that was normal war to "the west", why would there ever be condemnation of e.g. assads chemical attacks?
      second of all "you" bombed german cities to 95% destruction even after the allied troops already surrounded berlin and held large parts of germany and also liberated really all other countries except for the nordic regions.
      third of all, you killed people with sticky fire, shot civilians, agent oranged all the trees and on top of that manufacturing the whole thing. But there is a World Organization which all nations have signed treaty to prevent barbaric nature of men. In US, Canada, Europe and many other countries, if a person or persons commit violent acts against people they are taken to trial and condemned for war crimes. The old saying that "All is fair in love and war" is no longer true nor allowed. Japan committed atrocities... but to commit atrocity in return is barbaric and wrong. I agree that COVID-19 has helped to advocate more foreign investments into my country, especially from businesses who had realized the risks from depending solely on China. From my knowledge of Vietnam's foreign policies, I think that at this point, we're very eager to strengthen international relationship and befriend with other countries, partly because China is an asshole to my country, specifically regarding the whole dispute happening in South China Sea aka Vietnam's East Sea for decades.
    One critical key behind our success in combating the virus is that our people trust the government and responsibly follow the guidelines. Oversea media might cast doubt on the transparency of the info provided by our government. Of course I could not guarantee that all information is 100% accurate, but as someone whose life is pretty much guided by those information, I could tell you that the government is really putting efforts in preventing new cases in the community and arranging flights to take as many as possible stranded Vietnamese from abroad home.

They had a strong showing reaching the 2019 Asian Cup Quarterfinals, as well almost upsetting 🇯🇵 in the last 8. Prior to the Pandemic, they were playing quite well in 2022 World Cup Asian Qualifying and could have a chance to reach the 3rd Round of Asian World Cup Qualifying (Round of 12). This would have them playing at least a couple of the strongest Asian Nations with tons of World Cup experience (Japan, South Korea, Australia, Iran, etc.) If they do, it would be a another great chance to showcase your country!

    15:33 Vietnam can become a democracy though I do not think it will happen any time soon. But it will not become the new China, the main reason for this is the CCP and the extreme pressure the put on all the other east and south Asian countries. Vietnam knows they need to world to have a chance of standing against the PRC. Also, most of the population seems to actually support the government even though they got access to information of what is going on in Vietnam and the world so the government does not need the same amount of control to stay in power as the CCP does. The CCP seems to fear the population much more than what you see in Vietnam, while Vietnam's government seems to care about their population much more than the CCP, even the minorities.
    Sure the North and South Vietnamese government made many evil deeds in the Vietnam war, and after the victory, they were really hard-handed to. But that has been changing for decades now.

      I am happy to help Vietnam become rich and modernized to stand on its own two feet against the PRC. First, you need to hold a multi-party election in 2021
      Then, we will partner with a democratically government of Vietnam to modernized Vietnam's navy and air force. We will invest a lot more in Vietnam once Vietnam has a democratically elected government with separation of powers and an independent judiciary which will honor contracts and private porperty.
      So common the Vietnamese Communist Party. Don't you care about your people living in poverty? If you do, then let's hold a multi-party election next year so that Vietnam will receive a huge boost in foreign investment and a significant reduction in corruption caused by the communist one-party state.

    On behalf of all Vietnamese living in the country, let me just say that the reason why our government can maintain trust from the people as to not be put under any risk of deposition has a lot to do with why we Vietnamese are enjoying the free Internet and freedom of press and thought better than that of China’s and yet we don’t wish to be ruled by any “Western-style democracy” anytime soon: The VCP’s leadership has been continuously proven to be benevolent and worthy of the blood that our forefathers and revolutionary martyrs had to shed to keep our country’s existance on the world map. Western-style “democracy” and “freedom (with the trademark symbol) “ on the other hand hasn’t been used for anything but to discredit and deny our country’s progress. And as Josh have said in the video, as much as our regime is “authoritarian” by * to hell with * (unnecessary) “Western standards”, all decisions are made “in a collective manner by the Party”. Thus, unlike China where the CCP stained itself with the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the incarceration of its Uighur minority, never have we Vietnamese have to endure any of that kind of tyranny. Taking Vietnam’s response to COVID-19 versus that of good ol’ “land of the free” US of A and other Western “democracies” into account only further cements the fact that it is the status quo, or the Party’s leadership for the win.
    Excuse my non- native English :D. Greetings from Hanoi! ^^

      @GTA and Apple channel
      1 Every time someone raises the issue of endemic corruption in Vietnam, the communists always respond with a deceptive statement: Every country has corruption.
      There are 2 very big differences between corruption in democratic countries and in communist Vietnam:
      The first difference is: what percentage of German police force would you say is corrupt? 10%? 30%? Let me tell you this, if you say 10% of the German police force are corrupt, most people who have ever lived in Germany would not believe you. But let's just say for argument's sake that 30% of the German police force is corrupt and take bribes.
      In communist Vietnam, almost 100% of communist Vietnamese police force is corrupt. That is why one anti-corruption campaign after another only resulted in more corruption in communist Vietnam.
      Again, let's ask how many members of the German Cabinet are corrupt? And how many members of the communist Vietnamese Cabinet are corrupt? You will get the same answer as that for the respective police forces above.
      The second difference is how corruption is actively investigated in democratic countries and how the legal system punish everyone convicted of corruption regardless of their political position. Below are two newspaper articles showing the former South Korean President and the former Malaysian Prime Minister were jailed for many years for corruption:
      www.reuters.com/article/us-southkorea-politics-park/south-korean-court-raises-ex-president-parks-jail-term-to-25-years-idUSKCN1L905P
      www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-53563065
      In contrast, the sons and daughters of current and former Vietnamese communist prime ministers were educated at Universities in the US, Switzerland and other Western countries. We all know the salaries of prime ministers simply cannot cover the expense of sending a son to study at a Western university. Yet, communist police have never investigated Vietnamese prime ministers to find out where did they get the money to pay for the education of their children overseas and where did they get the money to pay for their lavish villas and mansions. No member of Vietnamese Parliament has ever dared to ask the prime ministers and other ministers of the communist government to explain where did they get the money to pay for their lavish mansions, their Mercedes Benz, their children being educated at expensive private US universities.
      So, Vietnamese communists should stop their deceptive defense of their corrupt communist government by saying every country has corruption.

    • @karllarsen8797
      @karllarsen8797 Před 3 lety

      @GTA and Apple channel
      And what has the one-party communist system of government done about corruption in the last 40 years? They have launched one anti-corruption campaign after another only to see corruption has gotten worse than ever. Then they insist that only the communist party should have the right to government the country.
      Why have they not launched an investigation into where the prime ministers and other ministers of the Cabinet got their money to pay for the lavish mansions and villas?
      Why have they not launched an investigation into where the ministers of the Cabinet got the money to pay for the very expensive costs of sending their children to private universities in the US?

      I agree, but don't have much affection for the content, either. China has been trying to control Vietnam for centuries, and One Direction boy seems to have no awareness of this. I can understand the impulse to be a CZcams Phenom and thinking Vietnam is a niche no one else has claimed, but he should develop some real expertise in the subject instead of this slapdash pastiche of equivocation. A vapid gloss is not helpful, full of solipsisms.
      For example, he discusses factories moving to Vietnam from China. Many interesting aspects to this could be noted, but one that overshadows all others is who is going to own and/or manage those factories? If it is Chinese ownership or management, this does not properly address the intent of decoupling with China. Rather the opposite, it gives China a pretext to make more inroads into Vietnam, as with that economic dependence will come political interference. Building more factories in Vietnam could contribute to Vietnam's development, but these factories must not be owned or managed by Mainlanders or those with ties to the Mainland.
