This Video is such a western approach.
I bet this dude and most of the viewers have never heard of this country until this video.
I live in a place called Assam (Bongaigaon) which borders Bhutan. We visit this country 5 time a year if not more.
BHUTAN is happy and it needs to protect it's national identity and culture hence the harsh approach (westerners think). Take for example Tibet - we all know what happened! And Bhutan didn't want to be the next in process by you know whose investments. Let there be peace and Bhutan is the hidden Shangri-la, so let it be.
Gradually and eventually the government and the people will climb the ladder towards prosperity lets not push them into a future without nationality and culture.
      Only having money is stupid.
Ask any Buddhist monk. And for the rest of you still wanting to create a scene, visit the country once and then decide for yourself.

went to Bhutan back in 2014.. wound up paying almost 300 dollars a day for a 5 day trip, but while that seems pricey, you get a decent hotel, 3 meals a day, a 4WD vehicle, a private guide, all entrances and activities paid for, and the visa arranged. Was hard finding flights and wound up having to go through Bangladesh but a pretty cool trip to a fascinating world. At that price, don't think I'd go back - but it's definitely one of those "see it before it changes-type places".

If you mean that bhutanese should have all the category of being happy based on other countries then thats not the way bhutanese measure hapiness. Many people in asia is happy in thier own way even with limited resources. Its thier values , family and society that makes them happy. We have different taste and definition of happiness. Thats why bhutanese are happy in thier own way of defining happiness.

Their leader created disruption and manipulated innocent people leading to uprising. It wasn’t ethnic cleaning in first place. They killed lots of innocent people before leaving for Nepal, mostly their own. If that was ethnic cleansing how come many Lhotshampa are ministers, NC, and lots of them hold key positions in government job? Those who did not flee are leading a comfortable life in Bhutan. Bhutan did by the right when they expelled Nepalese.I mean I am from northeast india and I can see the drastic population growth of these people. They initially were used as cow herders or cattle farmers by the British and now they are a sizable minority.Bhutan did what they thought was to preserve their identity. If you look at sikkim from our perspective you will know why. Sikkimese people are now a minority in their own former kingdom, now I dnt even knw if they are there.even the state language is Nepalese with full majority nepalese in Gov :,-( .Being a monarchy or a dictatorship doesnot help any countries but the monarchy in Bhutan is why they are not already annexed by either China or Nepal.Note that Nepalese monarchy didn't fair well and the subsequent consequences Nepal had to face was cruel. You should check historical facts and the inter territorial movement of people that happened during British Raj in the subcontinent then maybe you will see it in a different light.Anyways good work.

Bhutan doesn't claim to be the happiest country in the world, but through GNH we are trying to holistically develop our country. Its not like I will become fit right after i write down my goal to become healthier, the reality is it will take time (sorry for the bad example, that's the best i can come up with). Similarly, just because our country choose to measure our growth using GNH, it doesn't automatically make it the happiest country. This will take time, like all policies do. Therefore, i think it is too early to be dismissive about it. Anyway, I just found this video to be poorly researched.

And still they have so much peace, natural beauty, cleanliness..

I was a big fan of Visual Politik but this was one of the most poorly researched video done with either intent to slander or ignorance. Context/Facts they "Forgot"
-The population is less than 1 million people
-No mentions of economic structures that tax up to 60% of income for top 1%
-No mentions of free education and healthcare for all and if hospital unable to perform surgeries the government subsidizes or in some cases pays for the operation in another country
-How Bhutan is the only carbon negative country in the WHOLE WORLD!
-How the King often gives land and money to those who are destitute
-How homelessness is not an issue as between family and charity organizations there will always be a place to stay.
These details are not small enough to slip by and it is clear this video was done with a great deal of either bias or simply not researched well at all.

If Nordic countries were that happy they would not have the world's largest (proportional to GDP and per capita) expenditure on mental health treatments. Western societies are some of the unhappiest and have had their social cohesion decimated. The divorce rates are through the roof in the Western world, is that a sign of happy society? Nobody in the eastern hemisphere trusts Western reports on anything least of all a happiness report. Not that we're west phobic, just that with so many social problems and no answer to a all consuming pursuit of material accumulation without any spiritual wisdom isn't the sign of a happy society at all. The relationship between happiness and wealth does break down at higher levels, but being poor certainly doesn't bode well for one's happiness. As such, wealth is considered in the measure - you don't need to be a millionaire, but it definitely favors being at least part of the global middle class.
