    Fun fact, Keanu Reeves took a pay cut to work with the same stunt performers in The Matrix Reloaded and Revolution that he did in this movie. He also gifted several stuntmen Harley Davidson motorcycles and payed for a wrap party. That is why stuntmen love him!

      I saw it for the first time two years ago and it absolutely blew my mind! Also unique for an Australian audience since it was filmed in Sydney and I recognised a lot of the locations used (Martin Place, the old GPO, the Norton Building and Central Station).

    One of the cool things about this movie for me was. There were a lot of books, movies, TV shows etc, where people go into a computer world, Tron, Lawn mower man, and many others. And going into this for the first time I was thinking it was more of the same. But, the twist of that we are already in the simulation was at the time kind of new. I loved that part, 'why do my eyes hurt'? "because you've never used them before'. left the theater with my head in deep thought for quite a while.

      There’s a heap of Alice in Wonderland references, “follow the white rabbit”, “you must be feeling a bit like Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole” that sort of mirrors the experience of Alice entering a fantastical world and questioning her identity like Neo does in The Matrix.
      It’s funny you mention Cipher’s The Wizard of Oz reference “Buckle your seatbelt Dorothy, cause Kansas is going bye-bye” since it’s the only one in the film, but also influenced The Matrix with Dorothy being sucked up in a tornado into a fantastical world like Alice.

Warner Bros grew restless 4 months in and not seeing much back from production. The Wachowskis answered WB back by forwarding the mostly finished (including the FX) opening sequence with Trinity. There were no more questions on what was taking so long.

    27:58 - You disbelief that Keanu Reeves can move so incredibly can only be expanded by watching "John Wick" and it's sequels. He is FANTASTIC in those movies!
    And now, a nerd's complaint about this movie. According to the masses who would know, humans don't put out all that much electricity. This was pointed out shortly after the movie was released. Only recently did I learn that the machines were supposed to be using humans as a neural net, which would have made A LOT more sense. Neurological signaling and reaction speeds can't REALLY be matched mechanically. So to use humans for that would have made more sense... but more complex to explain. Thus: batteries. =(

    • @NetAndyCz
      @NetAndyCz Před 2 lety +1

      I am so mad they "dumbed down" the plot to batteries, because the human neural net seemed too complex. It is worse than turning the philosopher's stone into the sorcerer's stone. The whole plot does not make sense when the computational power is replaced by the electricity.

  • @SteveBrant55
    @SteveBrant55 Před 2 lety +5

    Happy to see your reaction. Sadly, the promise of the end of this film (that Neo would show all living humans that they live in a dream world) was not fulfilled in the two sequels. The sequels continued the fight between humanity and the machines... a necessary fight but still unrelated to how the film ended. I am really looking forward to the new film and hope it returns to the issue of waking people up from their dream (helping people escape from the fake reality "cult"). That would be a story really appropriate to today... when critical thinking is under attack in ways it was not in the late 1990s.

    I was thinking about this yesterday actually. Hugo Weaving has to be the best genre actor of all-time. And I was thinking of it because of Red Skull in CAPTAIN AMERICA. I keep seeing him in reaction videos because everyone is reacting to Marvel, LOTR, and now the Matrix. I first saw him in PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT (not genre) all those years ago. I don't even think he's been nominated for anything because these movies aren't awards bait. But he's super awesome. After you're done with all these maybe you can check out the underrated CLOUD ATLAS, also by the Wachowskis. It caused some controversy at the time but it's my favorite movie from the last decade. Weaving is in that too.

    This is pretty random but I always found the sound of the shot that Smith fires into Neo's chest in the end is just magnificent. Super slo-mo how you actually hear the workings ot the gun and the bullet in the chamber going off. As a dramatic effect after that wild fast chase and also kind of muffled as in a surreal moment where you don't even believe what just happened even almost in the background as his breath leaves his body. Artistically this is a bold choice. They could have made it a loud and shocking moment. Instead they went with the surreal wtf moment like what? I can't believe after all this I'm still gonna die! ?! ...His face tells the whole story as he looks at Smith in disbelief in this almost transcendant moment that totally comes out of the blue. All over in a second but very powerful. Beautiful cinematics.

    I was definitely one of those people that watched the matrix as a kid and I quite understand anything all I know was the action and Neo was the good guy he was my super hero I wasn’t into comics comic book movies wasn’t a huge thing than so all I had was Neo. Now grown up I understand them now. It’s something about watching movies as a kid (even if the movie isn’t good) the movie always have a special place and the matrix is those movies.

    When he says to Neo that he's never used his eyes before, that's not cryptic, it actual fact. Neo has never used his eyes until he woke up in that pod. Neo has actually never used ANYTHING related to his body until that moment. It explains why he's drowning after getting flushed; because he can't swim. He's never been in water before AND never used his limbs. I'm actually surprised he can walk and talk properly; he's never spoken before either.

    • @jeambeam3173
      @jeambeam3173 Před 2 lety

      Some of that stuff is more mental then physical. His voice would be more high pitched as your voice depends thru use and he wasn't unable to swim because he didnt know how (mabye he didnt in the matrix either) but because his body was too weak to swim

    • @patrickcromwell7554
      @patrickcromwell7554 Před 2 lety

      @@jeambeam3173 Umm, No; it's quite literally Physical. In his mind he likely CAN swim. But since he's never actually moved beyond twitching and spasming while in that pod he actually quite literally does NOT know how to use his body.
      I imagine and dream that I can twirl around a stick like a Jedi wielding a lightsaber; I can even see in my mind how everything is accomplished. I can see the rotation of my wrists, the bending of my arms where they need to bend; but since I've never actually DONE any of that motion, I literally cannot do them. It's not in my head where the problem lies, it's in the fact that I have no practice in doing any of that.

  • @andrewburgemeister6684

    What if I told you that this sci-fi classic was filmed in Sydney, Australia and actually started a big production movement for movies like the Star Wars prequels to be filmed there at the Fox Studios near the Sydney Cricket Ground?

    Morpheus: I’ve seen an agent punch through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.
    Neo: What are you trying to tell me, that I can dodge bullets?
    Morpheus: No Neo. I’m trying to tell you that when you’re ready, you won’t have to.

    Poor Lawrence--in that scene with the dusty bathroom--because he was super allergic to dust and essentially had asthma (to a point)! Obviously, he just went with it, and TBH, it made 'Morpheus' all the more heroic and desperate to sac himself for Neo.
    Made the "he's not going to make it...!" scene even more incredibly powerful. 🙂

    The crux lies in what is said. Morpheus says he will “find the one.” The oracle says Neo “is not the one.” Neo knows, therefore, that his sole purpose is to save and bring back Morpheus. He is unaware of his eventual awakening.
