I really liked how complex this movie was. You really understood WHY Derek and Danny went down the path they did, even though it was disgusting; they'd suffered, saw wrong, they're educated and energetic young men who felt like they were in a position to do something about it and after the death of their Father they took a more aggressive approach to things.... but deep down they and the audience really knew they were being manipulated and used by someone (Cameron) who was just plain Racist. I think Derek was happy to go along with it while the fire of his Dads death was still raging in him and he had an outlet for it, but once the reality of Prison hit him it brought him back down to Earth with a crash. One thing that shouldn't be missed about this movie though is REDEMPTION!!! Don't treat all Racists as evil lost souls, they're human beings too and some are just misguided and completely redeemable.

Everyone in every country right now should see this film to understand how racism works.

This was such a great movie, it really showed me the meaning of racism. Which is; Hate, and if all you do is hate and don’t change it will destroy you or take your life. No matter who you are or what you look like (the ending of the movie) this is a great movie that people look past the real meaning.

Nah mate British life was bleak in the 70s 80s, it's set in Nottingham. So that was when the mining industry was being shut down and the strikes were on going. Racism was high as they blamed immigration for the poverty. Until the mid 90s, life wasn't great I grew up in south Yorkshire and in a mining town. Still not much changes

the writer and director Shane Meadows, writes about his own experiences growing up and does the same is in the mini series 'this is england 86, 88 & 90'

The country bunker scene was the weakest. They could have found some good pieces from the history of blues and other Americana folk music. The Patsy Cline piece was worthy.

I watched that movie, and it feels kinda scary, by focusing on the story instead of comedy, when joe was confused, i was confused too

Beyond the carnage represented in this movie, that i believe it must have been millions time worse, the moment of this movie that hits me the most is at 10:46, the contrast between the innocence of them being just 17 years old or less kids and the hard soldier life they had to live because of other, makes me cry everytime.

I consider this film required viewing for everyone. Yes, it's a harrowing experience to sit through, but it's very necessary. I think we actually did watch this film in high school as part of a class. (And I don't live in the same continent, I should point out. While the setting is very American, the themes are sadly universal.) I don't think they show this film enough in schools anymore. It's obviously not the only reason the country's going to shit, but it's equally obvious people aren't listening to this message.

It’s an amazing movie. Being English and born in the early 90’s, I was aware of a lot of the culture surrounding skinheads and the radical offshoots of their movement. As others have commented, Woody as a character is meant to be the proper skinhead, just a movement of music and fashion, no racial divides, as you can see with Milky. Combo has been radicalised in his beliefs, possibly due to his time in prison - and him joining The National Front gives him something to channel his beliefs into. Without any spoilers, the story of This Is England does continue into the series of This Is England ‘86, 88 and 90 - 90 is the culmination of the entire story - so far - there are rumours they may do another series but I think it ended in the perfect way.

This movie was funnier when seeing it in theaters in 2004. The hans blix joke goes over everyones head now but was extremely topical at the time. Still a hilarious movie though
