Horizon Insider Build Series: My First ARF! Gas Conversion Maiden Flight
The infamous Hangar 9 Carbon Cub 15cc My First ARF project plane takes flight with the O.S. GT15 engine! Continuing where we left off, in this edition of Horizon Insider Kyle and Ali briefly chat about pre-flight tips/tricks specific to gasoline/glow powered aircraft.
Once again, we would like to thank O.S. Engines for supplying us with this wonderful gasoline-powered GT15 Engine: www.horizonhobby.com/product/...

Beautiful aircraft! Thanks for sharing fellas😁
Really enjoyed this series and I hope you do more like it.
Such a beautiful model!
Great video! I loved the tip in the beginning on turning the mixture screw, I had not known of that before.
I have two airplanes that still need motors. I can go either EP or GP, but I don't have experience with GP, which makes me nervous in doing.
Call me old fashion but I would rather hear the airplane than music. Nice plane.
I am in the process of finishing the Carbon Cub. I will use an old but very reliable OS 108 FSR Glow Engine with an 16X6 prop.
Another Amazing Aircraft from HH!
Thanks for sharing this video!
best gas conversion is the DLE20 with electricstarter
Awsum guys
No music, need to hear the engine.. ARFs are great fun, but next step is to build a balsa kit. If you like the ARF project you should love to build a kit.
Awesome
Love the nofoam text. ;)
Ufff all that vibration! That's the only reason I wouldn't go gas. You can't beat that smooth electric power!
YES YOU CAN. IT'S CALLED REALISM. ELECTRIC IS GREAT AND I FLY SEVERAL ELECTRICS BUT A FUEL POWERED PLANE IS HARD TO BEAT. BOTH HAVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES.
¿ AS3X Did you have to reduce the GAINS for the extra vibration ? there seems to be very little advice on this issue. I've put AS3X into a Great Planes Ultra Sport 46 with a Saito FA-82b and I'm trying to feel my way. For one thing the airframe suffers less vibration from 1/2 throttle upwards. On the other hand I'd rather have the system working for me during eg. landing approaches. I hope this makes sense. I noticed the ailerons fluttering on startup so presumably you must still have it enabled. Thanks.
No music on the Electric version maiden but you put music with the gas version maiden flight? Come on guys lol. Still, a great video really enjoyed it except for the music. 😜
You could hear the wind, quad rotors, and birds chirping over the engine noise once we were more than 500' away. It made sense to add music.
@@horizonhobby I was just giving you guys a hard time. The air to air shots would have been weird without music and hearing the quad blades buzzing lol. Keep up the great work guys!
Can I use the gemini 160T on this plane ? I also have a zenoah 20ei . Thanks.
When you point the nose up while holding the plane, please hold above your face.
Okay Kyle, big question... How close does your 15cc fly compared to the model in RF9? I'm nearly done with the electric build and like you, this is my first ARF and only my 2nd R/C powered plane. I'm really not all that interested in a gasser...at least not in the near future. I'm training on RF9 with the H9 CC and the gasser seems to perform a "little" sluggish maybe in RF9. I'm just really curious how my training might relate to my completed unit when I finally get there. For now, It's my RTF Carbon Cub S+ EVERY SINGLE DAY, 4 2200mAh's each time, over and over again!
Believe it or not, it is VERY similar to the model in RealFlight 9 (comparing the gas plane vs the gas RF9 plane). That being said, the electric setup is a whole different animal! There is a electric version you can download off the Knife Edge forum (essentially the same plane with EP). That, however, is WAY overpowered. I fly that in RF9 with the power turned down to around 50% for a realistic simulation.
@@horizonhobby This is great to know, thanks! I'll figure out how to download the EP version and tone it down as you mention so I can start in on some stick time. Hopefully the EP version when toned down 50% is similar to the real thing! Thanks again!

@@horizonhobby Hey mang! Thanks for the follow-up. I really appreciate the time you're taking to address my questions. I had JUST found Mike's AV and I've been around the pattern a few times already. I hope I can get mine dialed in like that! I did quick-edit on the power output to 50% as you mentioned. Thanks again!
@@OhMySack No problem, it's my job! - Kyle
Hi!!! Great video, thanks for sharing with us, best regards !!! What's new on my channel? I invite you to watch the Volantex 757-3 take off... and this may be one of the last times I can share videos of this plane with you because last Sunday, October 6th, just in the ascent phase, it crashed without any control from a height of over 30 or 40 meters, in an uncontrolled spiral... it was very windy with gusts, it was a flight with high risks... probably, the Arkbird blocked due to excessive instability... I had no control over the plane, I was desperate to see it fall... you are always welcome!!!
NICE PLANE HOW MUCH FOR HE CHANGE OVER AND WHAT SIZE GAS ENGINE IS BEST
They explain it on the other episodes and ALI explains it at the end of this video, Did you not watch the whole thing? lol He recommends the O.S. Engine GT15 for scale flying, 20cc would work for more aerobatic, flights. I suggest you watch the whole playlist of the gas conversion.
YES I SAW THANK'S
I wonder how that would do with a 100cc twin cylinder? JUST KIDDING!
I Got The Standard Carbon Cub & No Thanks I'll Keep The Electric Without All That Damned Noise, Stink, Mess...YUCK! PS Build Your Own Li-Ion Battery Packs & Out Fly Any Gassy Crappy Flight Times!!! LMAO
Terrible advice ali. Always be prepared for the engine to quit. Especially when new during the break in period. After that learn the plane slow speed high speed and stalls so if you are ever in a situation where you do lose the engine the chances of you recovering are very good. I guess horizon wants to sell more planes lol
Put those hairy legs away mate
