    'S - mode': Call it a shot in the dark, but I'd say that likely stands for 'Shift Mode' 😉😇.
    Great video, Chloe. My Tacoma manual sits on the coffee table even now, waiting patiently to realize its full potential. It is my Everest. Seriously, though - your video has solved some perplexities and spurred me to buckle down and read the manual.

      "Standard", "Shift", "Sport", and "Sequential" are all good ideas, but Chloe is correct in that Toyota officially just calles it "S-mode" (at least in their manual up through 2022).

    I've owned my 2019 now for a while and "re-flashing" the ECU to make the trans shift at better points is highly recommended and works great. I was leery of doing that, but it is a huge benefit and it is safe to do. You can also alter the alternator rate of charge for an AGM battery if you install one, a beneficial upgrade as well.

  • @JournalofaWarriorsJourney

    Great info! I just got my truck last Monday & love it! This is my first Toyota truck so I have a LOT to learn LOL! I got about halfway through that big book and had to stop 🤪 I will keep at it this week. I don’t have the smart key trim but still - lotsa good stuff to know - Thanks! (new sub).

    I bought my Tacoma in July and I heard that humming for the first time in my work shop. I was going nuts trying to figure out where it was coming from😂 I’m glad I know now! Unfortunately I had to have it towed already back to the dealership and the tow truck driver told me what that little slot was for in front of the shifter and showed me this little square thing the dealership put on the key ring to fit the slot. Incase it gets stuck in park. So that was cool to learn. Then another guy showed me the back seat head rest tilt forward incase you want to see out your back windows better without taking them all the way out. He also showed a upgrade he did by putting gas struts for the hood. Then he learned you can take that bar all the in and out if you don’t like the rattling from it. This video has made me want to look through my manual a little better as well🤙🏼

    • @Garuda1415
      @Garuda1415 Před rokem

      I learned from another channel (The Car Care Nut) that the 'humming' is due to the evap control system check. The check will occur five or more hours after engine shutdown, and only when the fuel tank is more than 1/4 and less than 3/4 full.

    Thank you for your professional and informative videos. I have really enjoyed and learned a lot from you. However this is something I think you are missing on a hidden feature of the Tacoma. Which is an umbrella holder. There is a hole where the back seat meets. It is a prefect place to hold a long umbrella for some of us that lives in rainy areas instead of keeping the umbrella on the floor of my truck and in the way of passengers. Try it.

    The back window thing is ages old. It’s really a problem on SUV’s and back in the day station wagons. At the rear of the vehicle when you are moving it creates a vacuum. This in turn ‘can’ suck in exhaust fumes. Exhaust at the rear in an suv is worse at this but it is a very real thing in certain vehicles. Toyota is just playing it safe to keep you from passing out while driving and breathing CO2 :)

    I only recently discovered your page from doing about 5 weeks of research into the 2023 Tacoma line. After 19 years & 300,000 miles on my 2004 4.7L V8 Tundra Double Cab LTD, TRD, All Weather Package, the frame rot was so bad that my local mechanic wouldn't put it up on his lift anymore for fear that it would break & fall off, which already happened to him once, requiring him to replace his damaged lift. I communicated with four dealerships in two States, looking for a SR, 2.7L 4 cylinder, 6' bed, 4×4 utility version as a replacement for the Tundra. At 73, I decided that I would go from all the "bells & whistles" to NO "bells & whistles", after watching many CZcams channels rave over this model. Even a couple of career Master Diagnostics Technicians like "The Car Care Nut" who has been a Toyota Tech for over 30 years, touted that little 4 cylinder engine as being the most reliable & longest lasting engine & the only engine that Toyota still offers with a totally cast iron engine block. There is testimony of at least one that ran over 1,000,000 miles with proper maintenance. I brought mine home May 25 & have over 1,600 miles on it already. I'm 19 years behind the technology, so I've also spent many hours reading the four manuals that came with the truck. I'm totally happy with the truck so far. That little engine only spins at 1,900 rpm's at 70 mph, whereas the Tundra spun 2,300 at 70 mph. How do they do that? lol

    • @Whaley98801
      @Whaley98801 Před 10 měsíci

      Just brought home my SR with the 2.7l like yours. Gotta say it's my favorite vehicle I've ever driven so far. That "little" 4 pot is noisy but puts out a bit of pep for what it is. I'm glad to hear of someone else who shares in the pain of finding one in the 4x4 configuration. I searched for the past 8 months trying to find one here in the PNW. Finally had to drive to Oregon to buy one. Apparently everyone here in Washington wants to spend 50k for a midsized truck. Rant over. 🤣🤣🤣

    More: the trans "hunts", often covering several gears, both up and down, incessantly. You can go to S, select, as into manually select gears, and go to a lower gear and stay there, depending on conditions, grade, load, etc. Then go back to D, again depending on if/how conditions have changed. You can also have the rear drives re-geared so the engine always is spinning at higher RPM, going from 3.909 to 4.56, 4.88 or even 5.29 gearing, depending on load, your inclination, larger tires, etc. This will help keep your trans from hunting so much and engaging the PWR/ETC will also help. But you must push the PWR/ETC EVERY time you start up your vehicle.

    I know why that label: "Capped Bottles Only" was molded into the center console! One Saturday, I spent hours removing the center console on a Mazda sedan and cleaning up the console and the auto-trans. linkage underneath. Somebody had spilled a soft drink and it entered the slot where the trans.lever protrudes through the console!! The works were so gummed up, it was very difficult to move the trans. lever forwards or backwards!

    I believe the "S" in S-mode stands for "Standard" shifting as opposed to automatic.

    Thanks for doing what most of us neglect, or are reluctant to doing. While I already knew most of this stuff just by tinkering around with my truck when I first got it, I was disappointed to learn that ECT PWR didn't mean Extra Cool Transformer which would turn your truck into a slick Autobot transformer.

      Go to settings, vehicle customization and then their should be an area where you can change your locking settings

    Now my mind is blown about the back window. Keep closed while driving. Open window when not driving ? Why have a back window that opens and closes but not while moving. Makes perfectly good sense to me 😢 Btw fantastic videos. Thanx a million !

    New Tacoma owner. What is the storage space in the bed next to the power outlet supposed to be used for?

      Storage of things that fit in the space. Bungies, rags etc.

    Another neat trick with the key fob: Press the LOCK button three times - on the third press, hold the button down until the lights on the vehicle flash. The engine will start shortly thereafter. The engine will shut off automatically after twenty minutes, or when you open the door, or press UNLOCK on the fob. You may need to experiment with the rate of the three presses, and this will not work for older model vehicles. This can be useful to cool or warm your interior - the settings for these functions will remain in the state you left them last you drove.

      I just pay for the remote connect so I can start it with my watch. I just learned you can use a smart watch to start it about 2 weeks ago.

      @@kyleritchie50 that remote connect app, I find it rather sluggish. It is nice however to be warned you forgot to lock your doors and be able to address it from the app.
