This voice has really been part of my daily life in the last 2 years and somehow always so comforting.
I love the way your eyes portrait all the calmness and lightness your presence exhales. Thank you for inviting meditation into my world ❤️
This the guy from the app nice voice man
Thank you Andy for changing and helping so many people
You’ve a great presence about you, it’s very cool to watch

The origin of MEDITATION is from SANATAN DHARM/ INDIAN ANCIENT CIVILIZATION.
And in INDIAN ANCIENT SCRIPTURES THERE IS WRITTEN RECORD ABOUT MEDITATION AND ITS BENEFITS.
You have to realise that the Buddha was born in Nepal though.
@@alBaid meditation was there before buddha
@@alBaid Sanatan Dharma older than Buddha
@@alBaid Hinduism is older than Buddhism.

This story really added another dimension to the importance of meditation. I have at times forgotten about the treasure of these teachings because I haven`t heard about such incredible people risking their lives in order to spread the wisdom of compassion and love. It is difficult to really understand it`s magnitude because we are so busy with our minds that we aren`t able to grasp how developing a mental calmness feels like. Thank you to everyone spreading these beautiful teachings.
This app was my start on a spiritual journey and I am very thankful to Andy for this amazing project
What a wonderful thing of you to share this with us, thank you! I appreciate you Andy and the Headspace team!
Thank you Andy. I love learning more about the tradition and it's nice to see your face for a change.
Andy is a good soul. I find him both admirable and calming.
Thanks Andy!
Incredible share. I perceive you as very authentic.
I would love to get to know the teachers. I did 699 meditations so far on headspace. High five
Oh Andy... I appreciate very much that you have shared this story with us. I definitely see meditation in a new way. The practice of meditation not only has been refined after all those years, but its history is a clear proof of its value. The way you are sharing it makes it so special too, people feel so close to you. I personally do feel so, because your words are so authentic and selfless. I really really appreciate you and your work! Thank you very much!
The history of the teachings is really moving. Good move letting Andy out of the dark studio! These tranquil places are so nice to see and Andy is a very calming presence.
This moved me deeply. Thinking about what others went through to keep this practice alive for themselves and for all of us today. I almost have no words. I´m deeply touched by this talk. Thank you, Andy.
Meditation came from Hinduism india. The oldest documented images of meditation are from India and date back to 5000 to 3500 BCE. Wall art paintings depict people sitting in meditative-like seated postures with their eyes half closed, presumed to be deep in meditation
Well the oldest evidence for medicine does not come from India The oldest evidence for meditation dates back to the Neolithic period, around 5,000 to 7,000 BCE. Archeologists have found evidence of meditative practices in artifacts found at the Çatalhöyük site in Turkey, where drawings of people meditating in what appears to be a trance-like state were discovered. Other artifacts from this time period, such as cave paintings and sculptures, also show evidence of meditation techniques, such as breath control, visualization, and chanting. These findings suggest that meditation has been part of human practice for a very long time, and is rooted in ancient spiritual traditions.
@@Adam666____iChadNearly every source mentions India as the birthplace of meditation/having the oldest evidence of meditation not Turkey
@@perfection9630 Turkey Predates Indian sources if you an do math. Cave paintings dating back tens of thousands of years, such as those found in the Lascaux caves in France, depict humans in what could be interpreted as meditative or trance-like states during rituals. Cuneiform tablets from ancient Mesopotamia (around 4000~5500 BCE) mention practices such as prayer and rituals that involve stillness and focus, which could be interpreted as early forms of meditation. The "Instructions of Ptahhotep," an ancient Egyptian text dated to around 2400 BCE, contains advice on self-reflection and the cultivation of inner peace, which are akin to meditative practices. It wasn't only influenced by India but by many cultures.
The fact Hindus have been doing it so long is proof meditation is a waste of time. I dia is a disaster of country and one of the most intolerant.

I used to think that you were just a voice on the app, but after watching you walk up a whole mountain just for a video to talk to us about meditation, that really shows your strong visions to spread the word of meditation to us all. Thank you Andy.
Thank you for sharing stories with a kind choice of words tempo and exquisite moderation

It would be great to also see how you incorporate the mindfulness practice in your everyday life. To get a glimpse of how to deal with the daily hick-ups where mindfulness can help us. Thank you for everything you do Andy.
Hinduism invented meditation. I am proud to be hindu 🕉
Thank you Andy.
What a wonderful video.. putting meditation into a historic context made me appreciate it in a way that I never had before. I hope there will be more videos illuminating this topic! Until then, can someone point me to some books that talk about this?

I love the app. One concern for me was the origins of Buddhism references deities and deity like creatures which spiked my anxiety. Can anyone alleviate my idiotic fears ? I want to get back to mindfulness 🧘♀️
Come to Peru Andy and enjoy our biodiversity and cultures and promote mindfulness for schools we need it ! I can help in every part of your trip here 🇵🇪
Hearing the story of the tibetan monks gives World Meditation Day something extra special❤️🙏
Meditation is given by adiyogi not by any monk and meditation original name is dhayanam which was translated by Britisher during 19th centuary to meditation.
All form of meditation is given in vedas and puranas in detail thousands year before the birth of Lord buddha.

may I ask for the son you use at the very beginning for example at second 40? thxxx
I feel something similar to what Andy says in minute 11:15, but not sure I understand what he had done to overcome it or uncover.
I'll quote that part of the video: "but there was still some sort of something kind of missing, for me that was it was a warmth, lightness, playfulness, it was... Just a sense of... I don't know wether I describe it as joy, love or compassion. There are a lot of different kind of words there, I know, but it was something that I felt I haven't kind of uncovered, unlocked or discovered within my own mind. And I met dalai lama"
And then, the story doesn't really come back to how he discover that or what did he do. He continues on other stuff (overwhelmed by dalai lama and what fascinated him was what people had gone by to extend this learnings).
Am I missing something? I'd really love to know what Andy's answer is to how he uncovered or discovered within his own mind that sense of joy or love or compassion that was missing
He might be talking about the whole self compassion movement
You can check out Kirstin Neff for That :)
@@beats_and_hymns do you have a link, a book or something? I'd like to know someone's answer to that question, if possible, and not a big beefy books :)

Andy´s app creation opened a meditated debate inside my mind...he went on this epic pilgrimage and meditated in the most uncanny monasteries in the world devoting himself to it, and although you might consider that "healed" him in one way or the other, the truth is he went back to the 1st world to create a product that he could sell to as many clients as possible. To me this either means that his meditation failed and he is just passing on teachings that didn´t really fully worked for him or he just found in his own "nirvana" that the captitalistic system we live by in the developed world is actually the best suited ecosystem for human beings to "keep going"....I am yet to decide whether his meditation succeed or fail. It has clearly succeeded according to the capitalism metrics though.
Your English accent sounds similar to Bear Grylls. Are you from the same general area? What kind of Brit accent is it? Just curious really

this is a weird thing to notice but It doesn't look like the shadows move at all during his 10+ minute convo 🤔 might not be on the mountain after all.. 👀😂
Barnaby?!
Meditation has come from Hinduism. Oldest religion in the world
Meditation is from India.
is this free
do not be afraid to say fu china
of course the government, not the people
So….,
where did meditation come from?
Meditation is originated from Hinduism
Meditation is not a Buddhist thing they adopted it just like all ..
It is Sanatan thing
It is a Buddhist thing. It is a Hindu thing. It is s Sufi thing. It is a Christian thing. It is a Jewish thing. There are many variations of spiritual meditation practiced in all of the above religions. 🙏
Hindus invited meditation
i am sorry but meditation is older than 80,000 years .
if you read the vedas and use your mind a bit you will know.
You call yourself a monk and you don’t even know where did meditation originate from💀
Meditation is a waste of time.
"These teachings have come from somewhere else, there are not mine, and all I'm doing is kind of sharing it with you" - Sure Andy, all you are doing is sharing it... while making an obscene amount of money with your company headspace, which successfully packaged the age old practice of meditation as yet another product for bored western consumers during late capitalism. Bravo, it's great comedy for sure! Extra brownie points for the choice of music in your PR videos (cause nothing says "mindfulness" quite like upbeat trendy electronic dance music...) and sneaking in your political opinions about Tibet (of course, "mindfully" presented as objective facts)
They're doing good things with that money though. Their advertisements are universally loved. There are so many people more open to meditation than there were before Headspace rolled along. Just recently our company began offering us free subscriptions to Headspace. By generating revenue, they've been able to further popularize the act of meditation and spread it far and wide. If you don't have a marketing budget, it's hard to get a message out. Especially on something as abstract and weird as meditating. Weirdly enough, meditation became big as soon as people started selling it. If you can sell something, you can market it. Business can do good.
Also on the Tibet point: what he was trying to hammer home was the dedication these monks had to Buddhist wisdom and mindfulness. They embarked on a perilous journey and faced many desperate times and made many desperate measures just to spread this knowledge. That's inspiring. It's a testament to how truly precious this knowledge is.
