I love the fact that in x/y games you can get bagon right after the first gym but spearrow is only available in the victory road

@@derekledden1358 yeah thats completely true. at the end of the day they are basically the exact same game. However there have been some more major differences like black city/white forest and also if you go to bell tower or swirl islands first. I can't think of any more examples though

The section between Viola and Grant's Gyms feels like a completely separate game.
That’s pretty much X and Y in a nutshell. 1st and 2nd gym seems so much like a stretch
It's proof that the deadlines and what not that Nintendo and Pokemon put on gamefreak is killer. They were setting the games up to have huge amounts of content and then got rushed to push the games out. Pokemon doesn't need to be a yearly release. It would be so much better on a 2-3 year rotation. Honestly if they just did a rotation of Main series game, DLC, and a new let's go title. That's a 3 year rotation and gives every part a chance to be great and so much more polished.

@@armon9555 This is pokemon, there's so many spinoffs that every fan of the mainline series has to be interested by at least one, they don't need yearly releases.
Second, yeah the games still have years of develpment. The issue is that the already small team has to work on multiple things at the same time, look at this current cycle, Pokemon Gen 8, Ultra Sun and Moon, and Let's Go were all had overlapping develpment times.

One of the things I liked about X/Y is that there's a lot of options for your team, even in the early game.
After watching only his streams for the past few months, I forgot what John's "video voice" sounds like lmao

Let's just appreciate the fact that John did this in the first place. Even with the experience share rework in Gen 6, X and Y still have one of if not the largest regional dexes in the franchise. Even if the grinding is not that difficult especially as your Pokemon reach higher levels, this was most definitely a test of patience. Props to you John for completing this!

SWSH has the largest regional dex with over 600 pokemon including DLCs

Yeah, I'm in the middle of evolving all the pokemon before the first gym and I'm already at almost 10 hours. I highly doubt I'm gonna be able to finish with less than 100 hours
A tip for the Legendary birds I learned. After the first encounter they are out into your Pokedex. You can check where they can be found and it says the current route they are one
They still rotate though just like in gen 3... at least they can't roar
I love how emphatically John states “I am never doing this again” I hear the pain from the grueling sections in his voice!
Sadly we all know he's gonna eventually do this again.

Gosh this really puts into perspective on how diverse the pokemon distribution is. Especially early game, Pokemon Y is one of my favorite games to Nuzlocke because of it.

The Battle Chateau resulted in me going into the second gym with a level 60 team of six on my first playthrough of Pokemon Y.
Seriously, I loved the battle chateau
I am well aware that I alone feel this way, but X and Y are my absolute favorite Pokémon games. The music, the atmosphere, and the new mechanics are so much fun

After gen 5, Kalos was what really rekindled my love of Pokemon. I'm still not a big fan of gen 5, but I do love gen 6.
Gen 6 is probably going to be like Gen 5. People hated it, then the kids who grew up with them get older and want to replay them, sparking a new wave of popularity for the games and more people realizing how good the games are. Based on when that happened with Gen 5, I expect that to be starting soon with this Gen or have already started
I was always fascinated by the sheer amount of Pokemon diversity in the Kalos region. Thanks for taking on XY, John!

Poke Y is the only game i've collected a full living regional dex in, and loved the challenge. Even hunting those last few through wonder trade and the gts was decent enough, using breeding rejects from the maison. Put it down after getting that oval charm though, haven't quite been up to getting the shiny charm yet.
For when the Alola trainer school keeps beating you down, Professor Oak is always there to give you that sense of accomplishment OMEGALUL

Technically, you can get more Pokémon to the National Dex through Friend Safari if you wanted to carry it on, but of course it relies on actual people having specific type safaris and what spawns in them. Nevertheless, an excellent POC as usual Johnstone! :) No one has more patience than you lol.

Hot-take: X and Y has the best regional dex of any Pokémon game, except for maybe Sw/Sh with DLC, and is honestly one of my favorite parts of the game

Will you update the nationaldex document with the crown tundra and isle of armor DLCs? With the new dynamax adventures allowing you to catch every legendary pokemon, I think the doc would drastically change.
Edit: I just realized that you're most likely working on it right now as it would take a long time to update the entire doc given how the crown tundra adds much much more than the isle of armor.
