- After completing the Living Dex in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, I took it upon myself to achieve 100% completion. This requires you to get all the "Trainer Stars", which was a feature implemented by the developers to incentivize doing everything in the game. Today we're going to find out how easily you can 100% Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Talking about bad luck. Playing emerald battle tower yesterday on trainer 164 (I use skarm/bliss/latios stall/setup) Had a quick claw sheer cold Walrein Tbolt my swarm. Sheer cold no miss my blissey, and double quick claw my +5 calm mind latios with ice beam. Going through my substitute with a crit then critting again wiping me. Thing had to have like 3 ice beams left before struggling. So unlucky

Just wanted to stop and say thank you for describing your final team. I never did any Battle Tower or Competitive Battling, so this trainer star always seemed out of my reach. However, I tried your Cloyster, Latios, Tyranitar built and finally did it. I failed a couple of times, but after learning when to set up and when to switch, I finally made it to 100+ victories. I never would have gotten that star without your video!
currently at four stars, tempted to go for five. battle facilities aren’t usually my thing, and it would be a real challenge, but that bright and shiny 100% is so close i can almost taste it…
Theoretically, no game post-Gen 2 would ever be 100% complete because on top of the achievements, most Ribbons could be obtained on the majority of Pokémon. Imagine the time it would take to get all ribbons on the 386 Pokémon from Gen 3, plus the 108 of Gen 4, plus the 156 of Gen 5, plus the 72 of Gen 6, plus the 88 of Gen 7, and the 89 of Gen 8. Not to mention all the ribbons added along the way.
That sounds like a challenge.
I don't technically know if that would be possible. The GameCube games give Pokemon transferred from them a special ribbon, however not all Pokemon are available in those games so not all Pokemon could have all ribbons. Plus there's event Pokemon that also have special ribbons, and as far as I know not all 900+ have been given out as an event yet.
@Ethan Swartz there is 2 in Pokémon Colosseum. One for purifying and 1 for 100 trainers in Mt. Battle
Gen 5 doesn’t have Ribbons. At all.
for the battle tower, my team that got to a 100 streak relatively painlessly was specs magnezone, soul dew latios and sash garchomp, I used magnezone as a lead with sturdy + volt switch and it was pretty consistent, although incredibly stressful and the last palmer battle came down to +4 latios vs +4 cresselia after calm mind spam

I remember trying to finish the sinnoh dex before beating the league, I was underground all the time trying to meet characters for spiritomb and ended up getting the first star off the statues.
Then I beat the pokemon beauty contest with milotic and that was when I realized I needed to beat the league to finish everything else
I tried to complete it before Pokémon home integration comes out and I managed to do it a few days ago

Hot tip for everyone who wants to take on the battle facilities, use hazards like toxic spikes and stealth rocks so that you can break sturdy and get chip damage when they switch in and out. Also double layer toxic spikes gives toxic poison instead of regular so it’s a good asset
Hmm in 3v3 and when the tower trainers hardly switch, I'd imagine taking a turn (or two) to set up hazards is less effective than boosting stats or getting a big hit off with a Latios-type pokemon. Because what if your opponent starts to dragon dance while you set hazards?
@@donlyphans7801 i dont know if any pokemon with hazard moves learn it but use taunt it only allows the opponent to use attacks or use moves like haze or clear smog to remove the opponents stats changes and i know its late

Just gotta say thank you John, I actually just completed this myself after being inspired by you and it took me 200 hours but I used your battle tower team and it rocks!
Some tips for competitive Pokémon if you ever need to touch a battle facility again: the ability synchronize has an effect outside of battle. If a synchronize mon is at the head of your party (I believe it can be fainted and still work), wild Pokémon will usually have the same nature as that mon. A natu with timid nature will cause you to encounter more timid Pokémon. If you wanna build a teaM, definitely go check out Pokémon Showdown. I battle there instead of in the games themselves, as I don’t enjoy team building much.

A great and fun video as always, I used almost the same team with some small modification, Modest Latios 1HKO a lot of things and very few things outspeeds it and those that do can be taken care of by Tyranitar or Cloyster. Also led with Latios, takes way less time to not setup every battle and as said above instantly kills most things, kept dragon pulse over energy ball since quagsire, gastrodon and whiscash gave me 0 issues, also good incase Tyranitar miss rock slide on Dragonite and dies since sandstorm breaks multiscale and therefore dragon pulse is a kill so the first Palmer fight is ultra safe regardless of rng. Was thinking about shadow ball for a while but had no spare TM for it. Would have given a very decent way of handling Alakazam among others. Also nice to not need to care about intimidate leads. Jolly Tyranitar was also very clutch, outspeeding Palmers Dragonite for example. Cloyster obviously identical.
My only 2 losses happend to a Sceptile on battle 97 because a 100% accurate Ice Shard somehow missed, I guess battle tower Sceptile runs bright powders? And sadly the Blastoise could beat my Tyranitar afterwards. And the second was probably the most infuriating thing I have ever experienced in pokemon, my Latios was paralyzed and got a full para 5 straight turns and lost to a Forretress on battle 32 after my cloyster put it on 1hp with rock blast before getting dying to a gyro ball....
The team felt overall extremly safe but man was it always a semi-nervewreck to deal with some mons that know fighting moves and that are good against Latios, like why do so many psychic and ghost type get focus blast and also always hit them xD
All I need to do now is wait for my last 3 swarm mons and then Shiny hunt Ho-oh and my dex is complete and my first 5-star trainer card ever completed, these videos have always been a great inspiration to one day try and go for it, happy I finally did it, keep up making the great videos!

2 years later and your video still helped me just bought this game last month and got my last star today in the battle tower with your team. Only difference is tyranitar had choice band with stone edge instead of rockslide and fire fang instead of ice and my Latios had shadow ball instead of energy ball and my cloyster had razor shell instead of ice shard

I didnt know how much i missed John throw the runs until this video.
I used a Latios like you to do the tower. However I had Ice Beam not Energy Ball, BoltBeam combo is really good.
Energy ball doesn't offer a lot in terms of coverage that you are already getting from Surf and Thunderbolt, Grass-type move just overlaps with what they do.
there are only 3 pokemon Energy ball can be used on which are Lanturn, Swampert and Gastodon, having Ice beam would allow ya to hit Gliscor, Grass and other dragon types.

Since a defeat battle tower at first atempt in brilliant diamond, i never expect to be 2 entire months trying to beat it in Shining Pearl. This system of battles was very good

My first battle with palmer ended with him hitting me with 5 dragon rush. The 2 dragon rushes that didnt kill my gastrodon and machamp flinched me. Dragon rush got 75% hit rate and flinched me 3 times. Got him the second time, but that made my blood boil

Trying to make my way through the battle tower with the final team he shared in the video, however a big glaring weakness in it comes with scizor. It completely swept my team since I had no good counters so I propose this for the team he laid out:
1. Cut latios's surf for shadow ball, saw a suggestion for that in the comments. It's not really needed when you already have energy ball and what I'm about to suggest in change 3
2. Cut tyranitar
3. Add a choice scarf'd blaziken with close combat, flare blitz, poison jab, and earthquake
Blaziken ends up being much faster and can also cover for steel, fighting, and fairy types while tyranitar couldn't. Losing crunch/ice fang/rock slide doesn't really matter when everyone else can cover the types those moves cover just fine + sandstream won't kill your focus sash cloyster on some occasions
Also just a word of note: don't go for a 100 win streak in doubles. It doesn't get you the trainer card star.

The best battle tower team I ever made was my get 6/7 team. Lead Mega salamance (d-dance, earthquake, return, fire blast), Aegislash (s-dance, king's shield, shadow sneak, iron head w/leftovers), and Chansey (toxic, soft-boiled, aromatherapy, shadow ball w/eviolite). The plan was simple, if they led with a physical attacker, salamance's intimidate and bizarrely high defense stat in mega form meant it was 1 d-dance and an easy sweep. If it was a special attacker, send in Chansey and laugh as they get nothing done, after wards if they switch into a physical attacker switch back to Salamence or Aegislash depending on the match up. Salamence and Aegislash have such incredible synergy, they could take almost any team on their own. The only thing that ever worried me was if they brought a OHKO move, particularly Walrein or Laparas because usually my answer for them was just stall with Chansey.
