HOW EASILY CAN YOU BEAT POKEMON HG/SS WITH ONLY POKEWALKER POKEMON?

- Out of all the unique peripherals that have been added to the Pokemon series, the Pokewalker is by far the most unique device as I allows you to catch Pokemon to use in the main line games. But are they good enough to beat Heartgold and Soulsilver? This video took a lot of time and effort to put together, so I'd really appreciate it if you shared this with a friend. If you have any suggestions for the next video, leave it in the comments below! Have a great day :)

There's also a way to reset the Pokewalker but I can't remember if it's in game or on the Pokewalker itself.

BREAKING: Local Man Loses 10 Years of his Natural Lifespan to Wobbuffet
My guy that jingle when you caught that wobbuffet hit me in the feels with an immaculate amount of nostalgia.
This made me extremely nostalgic for my high school calculus class, half of which were pokemon nerds all swinging our pokewalkers on little strings under our desks bc it was said to fool the pedometer
I just shook the heck out of mine, same method I used later for the 3ds and play coins

2:06 AFAIK the infrared sensor is inside the cartridge itself (the plastic is not black, it actually red transparent, and you can see through with a flashlight). Also, that's why you have to aim the port in the pokewalker just straight to the cartridge slot in the DS/DSI/3DS. The infrared sensor in the 3DS itself is not used for this purpose
Yeah, this puzzles me as well. How did he connect to it then?
@@ccrossed4854 the game cartridge has the IR sensor in it. There's a little "nick" on top of all DS game cartridges (which is a big giveaway for real vs fake carts) and this is where the IR is in said cart as you have to align it just right for it to connect. Also, only one Pokewalker per game.
That is exactly how it's done.
@@ccrossed4854an original 3ds like he used in the video has the cartridge slot in the back. Like the DS/DSI/DSLite all of which didn't have an Infra-red sensor of their own.
My father used to travel a lot for work so I would ask him to take my pokewalker with him. It would have like 20000 watts on it by the time he came back each time which was great!

I need to get new batteries for my pair of walkers.
Also when I saw the title I immediately went, "pretty easily. You get a _lot_ of good pokemon via the walker." The hard part is really just in griding out the routes that get you the good pokemon.
"Back in my day Pokémon Go was a pedometer"...uhh I feel disgustingly old...I'm 25...
Why Pedometer?

Of course I haven't used it too much this specific year, but the year before I rediscovered it and have been carrying it around where-ever I go.
Last year I even shiny-hunted for a Poliwag to take with me. Now I have my very own shiny Politoed who I can view in black and white on my PokeWalker :D
Same though just without the shiny Pokémon on my tiny black and white screen.
It's weirdly fun to just see more routes unlocked over time.

Next video idea : How easily can you catch every Pokemon in Pokewalker.
yeah! that would be amazing!
Dude... Munchlax and Spiritomb would be the final boss... you need to get 10,000 steps in a day to even have a chance to find them in the area which requires 100,000 Watts to even access.
And thats assuming he doesn't use the DNS exploit, because if he does he'd need to get the Rally, Sightseeing, Winner's Path, and Amity Meadow from events, Night Sky's Edge from transfering a Jirachi, and Beyond the Sea from trading with the GTS

Isn't the infrared censor in the cartridge itself?? I remember this being a key thing to look for when sighting weather your cartridge is real or not
Yeah, that's why it's black and looks red when held up to light. It's possible that he just misaligned it since he was aiming for the ds instead of the cartridge or it could have been covered by the cable
I’m pretty sure that’s just in gen 5
@@CleyCandies Nope! That was first introduced with hgss for connecting to the pokewalker. The original ds/dsi models didn't have a built-in ir blaster!

I forgot they used Watts as a currency in the Pokewalker. Funny how they use Watts in Sword and Shield. I wonder if they'll pull some sort of connection between the two out of their butts.
Probably not, SwSh has been pretty keen on avoiding connections to past games

i wish theyd make an accessory like that again. the pokeball plus thing is pretty cool and similar but i like the pokewalker for having a screen even if it isnt really used for many interesting things
This may well be the only HG/SS video where Bugsy and Pryce's Gyms are super difficult.
These are the kinds of videos I like to see from you; looking at some of the more unique features of each game. I never touched my PokeWalker (so it's still in packaging after 10 years) but super fun to see you give it a go. Really enjoyable video :)
Gotta tell you John, every time I see that you upload a new video on this channel I get superhappy. I enjoy your videos a lot, and every time I see the thumbnail I know I'm going to have a good time and a little moment of happiness. Thank you

I will never forget, I spent hours catching Moltres in a heal ball, and I was so excited to put in in my pokewalker and take it to school to show my friends. My mom didn’t believe me that it wasn’t a game, and took it from me before she dropped me off. She later told me that she’d had it in her bag at the gym and that she’d ended up losing it. I was devastated. She felt so horrible after I explained everything that she bought be another game so I could have another pokewalker, but my Moltres is still out there somewhere, 11 years later.
Whos gonna tell my man John that rest always wakes you up after 3 turns?
I had this growing up. I put a shiny Machamp on it and left it at some old lady's house who yard I mowed. Probably still there to this day lol.
I remember i used to take my pokewalker to school and it would always go off in my pocket and them noises to this day make me freeze up like i did something wrong. But so nostalgic i love them.
Oh good, I was about to start searching for a video to watch while I ate. Nice timing John.
What I got from the first minute and 30 seconds of your video is that it is extremely easy to beat this game with the pokey Walker so I had to change a lot of things to actually make it difficult
Getting the walky boy himself for the 8th gym and the E4 is so fitting for this challenge.
It's been more then 10 years after this game came out and I still walk with my pokewalker in my pocket today. It's a nice combo with pkmn go haha
Yessss, just what I needed, fricking love ya JOHNSTONE
This is a really great concept and the Wobbuffet part was amazing. Great job!
Its interesting to point out that nearly every generation had a new way of using Pokemon from an external device to use in the main storyline. HG/SS had the Pokewalker, B/W & B2/W2 had the Dream World, and Let's Go had Pokemon Go.
Emerald had XD Gale of darkness.
@@christianedwards9025Emerald can't trade with XD until both games have been cleared.
“nearly every generation” and then you name 3 generations..
@e7193 well I mean technically you could could LGPE as both gen 1 and 7 and gen 2 had the pocket pikachu color which connected via the ir port on the Gameboy color!
Also swsh supported the pokeball plus
So that's gen 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8
So that's 6 out of 8 which isn't bad! Keep in mind the original comment was made before scarlet and violet!
Just finished watching the live highlight and now this, so much johntent
The Pokewalker doesn’t use the IR sensor from the 3DS, it uses the IR sensor in the cart itself. That’s why the HG/SS carts as well as the Gen 5 carts are black. They are *actually* the color of an IR sensor. On a New Nintendo 3DS, you need to put the Pokewalker near the cart itself, not the IR sensor, which I learned after not a little bit of frustration.
OML! I remember being in late elementary school when Heartgold came out and I would bring my PokeWalker with me every day. Thank you for the nostalgia trip. ❤️
Great vid but I think it would’ve been more interesting if you used 6 of the 8 Pokémon you collected throughout the challenge to take on the E4 and Red.
This is a challenge I would definitely try if I had a Pokewalker
I just love how you said “hot garbage” when mentioning Focus Miss.
Fun fact for the PokeWalker:
It was nominated as the most accurate pedometer on the market during it's hayday, beating out professional pedomaters outright!

What about the console itself?
I actually have mine from childhood still, which I currently have a cyndaquil in and I walk around a lot at work, so perfect combination
Funny enough, the Pokewalker was actually considered one of the most accurate pedometers on the market at the time, according to a study of exercise scientists. I used it as a way to track my steps in health class in college-4 years after HG/SS
At this point, this man is a pokemon mad man
You missed the opportunity to say "She asked me if she could speak to my manager" XD
The nostalgia is something else here, strapping this badboy onto my football shorts before a game back in '09
I love the pokewalker! I lost mine at some point in college and I bought another from eBay. Then a few months later I found the original. Then I found out you could trick the game so that you could use 2 pokewalkers! You can only send one Pokemon to one of the pokewalkers. But you can randomly pick up Pokemon from the route your on as a partner sometimes.
