- After beating Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver using only Pokemon from the Pokewalker, a lot of you wanted to see if what it would take catch them all. Today we're going to find out how easily you can catch every Pokemon with the Pokewalker! This video took a lot of time and effort to put together, so I'd really appreciate it if you shared this with a friend. If you have any suggestions for the next video, leave it in the comments below! Have a great day :)

Hey here's a really cool gamer fact: I stream a lot of challenges on Twitch and it's a really cool place to hang out. I usually stream at 4:30 EST and I'll be doing my super hard nuzlocke later today! Come say hi sometime :)

You're welcome.

Bro listen I love your videos they're amazing as always but please for our mind sake stop putting your statistics in the video people hate that that forces people to skip it and most likely if forces people not to subscribe I've told many of CZcamsrs this fact and some of them have grown from not showing statistics cuz most people don't care
Hi
I´m proud of you man the uploads get faster and faster.
“How’d you slim down so fast?”
“I had to catch them all!”
thats what we all imagined at the beginning of Pokemon Go, but in the End people just camped around Lured Pokestops lol
@@silverhetch3383 And now we have rare pokemon that are only catchable in like a two-week window or 0.1% chance in a 10km egg. So we walk stupid distances for candy these days.
This actually happened to me when HGSS first came out and I got the pokewalker
“Did you do it?”
“Yes”
What it did cost?”
“5000 calories”
So, back when HGSS was new and I still lived with my parents, I had a dehumidifier in my bedroom as a makeshift heater because my room didn't have heat. There happened to be a small divot in the corner of the top. I placed my pokewalker there each night while it was running and it would count the vibrations that the dehumidifier made as steps.
I maxed out steps on it every night.

It amazes me how cool some of the Pokemon you can catch with the PokeWalker are, especially Spiritomb and Torchic (with events of course)
But then again, some routes are so lame, like one that has Magnemite in two tiers, and there are a lot of repeats like Mareep, Pikachu, Machop, who appear in multiple routes taking space from other better Pokémon.

I was in high school when HGSS came out, and I would attach the Pokewalker to my sock and tap my foot while I sat in class. Those taps counted as steps so I managed to unlock all the Pokewalker fields within several months. 10/10, would recommend (although I did have to field questions from people asking why I kept shaking my foot so much, lol).

"It's best to go for the group C before going for any other tier"
As somebody who actually did this, I can tell you this is wrong. You have to aim for group A at all times, because they have lower odds to even find them, besides you will find Pokémon group B or C more often than not. And since the fastest way of ending a battle with a Pokémon you don't intend to catch is throwing the Poké ball (which can work at full health), you will catch a lot of Cs and Bs regardless. Then when you caught both Pokémon from group A you can focus on B and C, but it's unlikely that you didn't find them while looking for A.

I haven’t used it but I thought of this and thanks for confirming

It was at time of launch, however this is not true for more recently developed step counters

I once just had a spearow just randomly join me in the pokewalker, I ended up using it in my black 2 playthru. And it's also why spearow/farrow is one of my favorite pokemon
Ive started a deep dive into the pokewalker recently and Im so excited to see your videos on it
FINALLY someone made a video on the Pokewalker. I've been walking around Uni campus for the past 3 years with mine and I've had a blast catching stuff but I've always wanted someone to do an in depth analysis of the courses and the catch rates like this. Thank you so much!
"You can definitely walk 60,000 steps in one day." Johnstone must have insane stamina. Considering the average person takes anywhere from 2,000 to 2,500 steps to walk a mile, that's upwards of 30 miles in one day. Last year, the one day I walked the absolute most, which was nearly nonstop with reasonable breaks for about 14 hours, I tracked about 31,000 steps. I couldn't imagine doing twice that much in one day.
I do around 10k steps a day as a fitness goal 15k is doable, but going for 20k daily will make you hurt and hate yourself.
He said you can do 60,000 steps per day, not that it was realistic to do or that it was healthy for you to do.
I got into distance running around the time this game came out.
Good times.
I honestly do like 20k steps at my job in one day.
I think the most steps I ever did in a day was 9,000, and I was basically dead by the end of the day. Normally I walk about 5,000 a day, and I've run out of places to walk. Do you guys live in Middle earth and wear bionic legs?
The Amount of Motivation on your videos is insane! Love it
8:54 since december is rolling around I can most definitely spend 5+ hours a day shaking a thing
Haven’t seen anyone mention this but regarding the Wifi exclusive routes, you can indeed get them through the DNS exploit if I remember correctly
Yes, you can definitely get them through the DNS exploit. I did it a couple of weeks ago. It's a bit annoying to get everything you want from it, but it's totally doable.
Or use a code from action replay to force unlock them (including 1 if I remember correctly that was left out of international version but was in Japanese release I forget)
I wonder if the Torchic would be able to go though bank and home?
this video inspired me to get my pokewalker from 2010, and start a new save file and walk with my pokemon! awesome video, thanks for all the hard work you put into making it 😆 i havent walked with my pokemon in so long!
Did you know this? Sometimes if you leave Pokewalker without a Pokemon, a wild Pokemon will decide to follow you. I've gotten an random Oddish, Doduo, Spearow and Magby this way. I'm sad I lost my Pokewalker cause I loved using it
That's so cool! I wonder if those pokemon could be shiny too. Also I'm sorry you lost yours :(

might actually try this challenge alongside a catch em all in SoulSilver (Not gonna do Professor Oak's challenge here, I hate myself but not THAT much) Including the Event Courses since I have access to the events. To answer yours and anyone else's questions- yes, you can get ALL the courses on an english copy! the courses we didnt get here will show up in japanese though so unless you can read japanese it'll be a little frustrating determining which is which on your own.
Thanks for this video, I really needed it. I forgot how much these games were loved by my younger self. I've been cleaning up and really wrecking my brain about whether or not I should get rid of my old nintendo devices, including the Pokewalker. I picked it up and and really felt nostalgic, but not sure what to do. I think the answer is just simply keep them and play through to the max ability now.
Other people can go play, with their DS all day, but John can walk, HE CAN WALK :)

You absolute legend. I was actually going to request a video like this but no need now. Thanks
Thanks for the idea! This will be a new incentive to work out on a daily basis. Also thanks for the resources to make this challenge possible 😁
Ayy!! I was hoping you would do a Pokewalker video.
I recently unlocked the final course. It was a PAIN hahahaha. I have Munchlax now so I’m on the hunt for Spiritomb. Probably two of the hardest Pokémon to get considering you have to walk for almost a year to unlock them.
You were correct btw. You sure can download all the event courses from that dns exploit. Using that server you can potentially trade with someone outside the US. I was able to do it after a couple tries. I unlocked ALL of the courses that are possible. Super cool to relive this slice of the past and have full access to events that have come and gone.
Thanks for making a great video, John!!
@Johnstone Hello, just to share something : I'm a disabled person using a manual wheel-chair - no battery nor engine. I managed to complete every of the Pokéwalker routes and catch a Spiritomb. I hanged my Pokéwalker on an thick elastic, bonding it to my hand. Then I just had to push on my wheels forward to move and gain steps and watts. When I was still, I just had to hang the Pokéwalker on my finger using the elastic, pretty long but fun and in the end, I got that Spiritomb. This is really more simple than the method suggested in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl / Sword and Shiel I think. Nice video !
Wow, I didn't even know about the post-game routes. I have a pokewalker myself but haven't been able to use it as much due to online school so I'm still on the 3rd gym for my Heart Gold playthrough. I guess I gotta get to walking if I'm gonna be walking for 400 freakin days (hopefully less) to unlock that Quiet Cave route. Good Video!
At the time of watching this their isn’t a single dislike and it’s clear to see why, the effort you put into these videos is unreal!
Still no dislikes!
Petition for John to make a sequel to this one day when he actually has his poke walker maxed out! Then goes around and obtains all of them.
Ah, the pokewalker, gives me super nostalgia.
When I was a kid, I went with my class on a field trip for 5 days, and brought with me my pokewalker with my Quilava on it. A friend of mine also had 2 pokewalkers and we played a lot together to get lots of stuff. The memories...
I am so glad I found your channel, chaotic meatball, and jrose. All three are such amazing channels. Also this is such a motivation to play heartgold and soul silver again... I made the mistake of letting my copies go. Went to go buy them again at a local retro game shop. 200$ 😭
YES this is a video I've wanted for years!!!
Thanks for the video. This really helped me after a long day of work
I used my Pokewalker every day for years until I maxed out the step count on my game and it stopped giving Exp. Points to my Pokemon that would return from strolls. :P I used it for getting Pokemon to Level 100 with minimal grinding in game.
Fun fact: It uses the (New Total Steps - Old Total Steps) when returning to calculate how much Exp. to give to the strolling Pokemon. 9,999,999 steps...
Anyway, fun video, thanks for the unique content. :)

I wish these pokemon would have a special ball or something, the park ball for example.
Also, thank you for explaining how to unlock the courses.
I did not get why, but I hadn't unlocked the post game yet ^^'
Jeeze now I gotta go find mine 😂 John you and supremerk9 are just the best
It would be cool to see this again for the switch and newer pokemon games, maybe an app for you phone that you can connect to your switch. There can also be an app on the switch that records progress and helps connect to your phone.
Nice vid! Probs for the efforts. One question, did you ever do the get all medals in Black 2/White 2 challenge?
Hey Johnstone! It would be really interesting for you to try and beat a Pokémon game without using super effective moves. The combination of Pokémon and move sets would be really fun to watch!
8:57 My reality for the past month has been either shaking my wrist (holding the pokewalker) or going like 10,000 steps at work.
Yo, I remember shaking my hand for hours to get Watts when I wasn’t able to walk, since 6 year olds aren’t exactly really allowed to just walk around the town when there’s no one around.
Ngl the discussion of steps had me chuckling. When I was doing walking routes for USPS this year, I'd average about 17,000 steps a day (5/6 days a week). If only I had a Pokewalker on me the whole time 😂
The Pokewalker reminds me of the No Sleep Pokewalker Only Nuzlocke challenges I used to do back in the day. Those were the times.
What is that?
@@RandalfElVikingo A Nuzlocke run where you're only allowed to catch the first Pokemon you encounter in each Pokewalker course. And if you fall asleep before beating the game you lose. So you essentially walk 60 000 steps while doing a Nuzlocke.
@@DarkNessLinkSeven That sounds like a decathlon level test of endurance
I love the past couple of videos you did. I myself fell down the pokewalker rabbit hole about a year ago.
I know its not really legit but you can obtain those last 5 courses with cheats, running the game on an emulator or flashcart. Problem, as you know, you can only use a pokewalker with a legit HG/SS cart. However there is software you can run from a flashcart, store in the RAM of the DS, and swap to a copy of pokemon that will then unlock the last 5 course (or all, since the code is to unlock all the courses for you).
You can also go the route of finding the demo distribution rom (and loading onto a flashcart) and trading yourself the required event/pokemon for the restricted course as well.
Anyways, I had a TON of fun with the pokewalker. I plan to eventually complete a dex on HG/SS and the pokewalker will be instrumental in that.
Fun fact about the Pokewalker, it was at the time of release a better step counter than any commercially available step counters.
Even in 2020 it is still better than most modern ones. {including smartwatches}
As for how to get those special pokemons, maybe look into a save game editor, and see if there is a special checkmark on one of those pokemon, {usually a ribbon, or a special OT}
Granbull's waving the middle finger. 6:45
Wow! I didn't realize/remember how rare those Flying and Surfing Pikachu are! I still have mine from the Pokewalker in my Soul Silver game. Guess I'll never be resetting that save! Haha

Was going to say this on the last video but didn't think you would do another walker video. If you hook it up to your dogs coller you will have all the watts you need in no time. Honestly I felt so smug as a kid when I came up with the idea and did a single walk and had all the pre endgame courses and enough watts to grab a crap ton of pokimon:)
i have watched all your videos 10 times but this will be the first challenge i will be completing for myself
Ahhh the Johntent is so good 👌👌👌😭🥰
Pokemon soulsilver was the first pokemon game I ever owned, and I used to use the pokewalker all the time, I still have it, and will probably never get rid of it.
if you don't feel like shaking the pokewalker, you can just tap it with 2-3 fingers and it works really well. Got over a thousand steps while watching this video.
I'm loving the Johntent, my guy. Keep it up! :]
i love the pokewalker. self destruct munchlax and flying/ surfing pikachus!
Did you think I wouldn't notice the Voltorb Flip music in the intro, JOHN? DID YOU?! ... +1
I am trying to complete the national dex right now and try to unlock every route aswell. If you really don't want to commit half a year for this, use a swing stepper / shaker that is usually used for Pokémon go to hatch eggs etc. Attach the walker at the very top and you are set.
you can in fact still get the pokewalker courses with the dns exploit as thats how i got them while rummaging around for the shiny beast trio (not that i have a pokewalker to use them with, lost mine many a year ago)
Other Pokémon can stay, in a PokeBall all day but I WILL WALK!
God I love the Pokewalker. Hardcore underrated
I remember when my pokewalker was functional and as kid I figured out that you can cheat steps by shaking it violently. You can grind pretty easily with it but one time my hand ended up slipping and I threw it against asphalt. Yeah its been dead 8 years now
f
12:35 yes you can, have jpn game and have them from expoit
Also 13:39 i believe you can catch group A pokemons only in bushes with "!!!" So if you particularly searching for flying/surfing you can catch only "!!!" Pokemons.
Edit: "!!!" Bushes *don't* mean you *can't* encounter pokemons from other groups
Just to help you a bit with the calculations: 10k steps is 8km, roughly
If you run half an hour at a mid to slow pace, it'll cover between 4-5k steps
Making chores around the house will cover another 1-2k, depending on how big your house is
Walking your dog and taking out the garbage will take about another 5k
So that's about 10-12k steps
Do it for a week and it's 70-80k steps
Plus, you'll get healthier
optimally you´d want to have more pokewalkers to connect with every day so you get the gifts or watt from it. Back in the day when this game came out we had like 13+ pokewalkers in school and went to connect them every day. That accumulated lots of watts without needing to run a marathon every other day^^
It's funny how much John talks about actually *walking* with these things. I just jiggled them around as a kid to get steps without doing any exercise and I thought this was the norm for how kids actually used PokeWalkers
I thought this was a cool video, especially since I whipped out my pokewalker a couple years ago and did exactly this. As someone who has done this, I’d like to note that there is an easier strategy to get each Pokémon. Since you only get one Pokémon from each tier (or group, I call them tiers) each time you go out it’s easiest to get one Pokémon from each tier the first time since, not do tier I (group C), then II (group B), then III (group A). Because you have the lowest chance of encountering a tier III Pokémon you will most likely encounter the tier I and II Pokémon before you find the tier III and can collect one from each tier. In this way it is better to go for tier III Pokémon first because you need to get enough steps to encounter them anyway which should give you enough watts to get Pokémon from tier I, II, and III.
Loved the video though, great to see I’m not the only one who remembers then pokewalker.
I remember when this thing came out I set up a system with a low speed fan and a string on one of the blades to lift and drop the pokewalker to accumulate steps
Seeing as I work retail and stand/walk all day this is quite tempting...
With a 3DS and Checkpoint, you can back up saves and restore saves. I wrote a bit of code to convert saves from all of the gen 4 games, so I can convert from Soul Silver to Diamond, and deposit all the unwanted-but-caught pokemon from the pokewalker into Pokemon Ranch and get a bit closer to getting Mew! It's not ideal nor is it 100% legit, but I just pretend to live in the timeline where they decided to support all of gen 4 for Pokemon Ranch
Damn, this Johntent is very different from the nuzlocks
To get steps I just attached my pokewalker to a fan (floor fans or a box fan that vibrates a lot) and it worked quite well which is funny.
Anyone else ever so slightly disappointed he didn't actually do this challenge
Some crazy irony for me. I am actually dying to get the rally course. I’m working toward a shiny origin dex with pokeballs only. As far as i can tell, the rally course is the only way to get a croagunk in a pokeball in gen 4.
I worked on a golf course when this came out. I managed to get the Surf and Fly Pikachus. Imagine my joy when I couldn't move them forward.
I think the fact that this video only talks about what's required to complete this challenge instead of actually doing it shows just how daunting it is.
This task is a life's work
Back when this came out I was a senior in high school. I was on the track team. I unlocked everything in a short time, lol.
Thanks for the strats to speedrun the Pokewalker 100%

I used to spend my summer keeping the PokéWalker in my pocket while jumping on my trampoline. Gave me tons of Watts!
You think this is tedious? Have a gander at this game's Safari Zone.
And with that a challenge: Catch every possible Pokémon found in all Safari Zones in the series. Yes, I also mean in RSE/FRLG, and in DPPt's great Marsh. Anything where you use Safari Balls. And I do include the stuff you can otherwise find in the overworld eg. Nidoran, Bibarel etc.
