- Today I show a fun & fast Pokemon shiny hunt that you should try, in HeartGold and SoulSilver versions! This is a great way to pass time while waiting for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to come out!

Stupidest thing Gamefreak ever done was shiny locking starters.
2nd stupidest thing GF has ever done is not being able to see if starters are shiny until you pick it (for me it's happened with virtual console pokemon gold, pokemon x and y (I think), pokemon BDSP, USUM, and prob some other games too.
They never ✨ Locked the Starters.
Oh! You meant, starting the game with a ✨ Pokémon? Yeah, that was a GREAT decision.
Because while your First choice in Pokémon can no longer be ✨, you CAN still Breed them to get the ✨.
You've been able to do that since, well, forever.
But especially in the last few Gens- ⚔️ 🛡️, Arceus, and SV, you can Masuda Method to get ✨ Starters lol 😂
@@gabriellockwood2780 that’s one of the stupidest replies I’ve ever heard. People want to have the option of starting a completely new game with a shiny. Just because you just learned what the Masuda method is doesn’t make it the right answer for everything

My favorite hunt in this game is Gyrados in Lake of Rage! It’s always so challenging!
Red gyrados is the goat shiny. Silver and gold it was like wtf is this??? 😮😮😮
I once encountered a shiny gyrados but back then, I didn’t know what a shiny was so I didn’t catch it

I remember when I got sword and shield I began to figure out what the soft reset button combo was, only to find out there was none lol.
You can just press y instead of x(if you have more than one pfp then choose your own profile)

They did that because switch games load faster than soft resets anyway

I got a shiny chiko on my hunt twice in a row and just decided to use it. his name is Basil and as a Bayleef he actually stomped Whitneys miltank using Reflect to tank the rollout and a couple Magical Leafs for the kill - earned my respect real fast

Another easy shiny hunt I've found is the Spiritomb in ORAS, because since you need to pause the game and select an option that hides the overworld and when you unpause the game the battle will start, if you save after selecting the option (but before closing the pause menu) every time you restart the game you're immediately thrown into the battle! The only button presses are to reset the game! So it's an incredibly fast reset cycle!
Just for the record, just because there's THREE doesn't mean the odds are cut.
Each one still has the 1/8192 chance. The shiny odds are not cut. The odds aren't changed in any way.
That's like saying horde hunting changes the odds of 1/4096 to 1/819. It doesn’t.
You're just getting more encounters.
They’re not cut, but you are getting additional rolls which theoretically would give you an easier chance at getting a shiny starter quicker
This was my introduction to shiny hunting 5 years ago. After that I started streaming shiny hunting and really got to know the community. I quit bout 2 years ago, but damn that was a fun time in my life.
I’ve done this hunt before, I was looking for a shiny Totodile but got Cyndaquil. I really wanted Totodile tho and let’s just say after months of hunting I finally got my Shiny Totodile… and 4 shiny Cyndaquil
Exactly what I did wanted a shiny totodile to name it Godzilla and got chicorita.

Is there any way to get the pokemon from your ds onto pokemon home? I don't have a 3ds. If there was a way to transfer it to my switch, I'd do this hunt

I got 2 shiny totodile for hgss on both copy's I want one shiny totodile and one shiny Cyndaquil
My soul silver copy is fake, just realized that whilst hunting for lugia then starters. 😭

i did this in my two copies of heart gold. one of them took about a week of soft resetting in my free time to get a shiny chikorita, and in my other game i got a shiny cyndaquil in like 80 resets

Takes for ages sometimes. 300 plus hours in gen 3 till I seen one.
You can just get lucky. I remember on my first playthrough of Emerald I got a shiny Golbat up in the RayQuaza tower just before I went and battled him. Which means I could have probably phased into a shiny RayQuaza if I had been a little bit quicker 😵
SV odds do seem to be higher, but it probably is just easier to spot since their shiny forms are visible in the overworld which we couldn’t determine in Sword and Shield. Who knows how many shinies we skipped over since their shiny forms weren’t visible
Now that I think about it, I might go for this Shiny hunt, I tried to Shiny Hunt on Pokemon Crystal on the 3DS, but after a long time I thought that it wasn't worth damaging my "A" or "B" button for it. But considering that these are the same Starters, as long as there isn't much talk before the Shiny Check... Let's go.

Hunted the totidile for 3 weeks, got the chikorita twice... still chances are much faster and better in the new games, but if you're going for classics this method works for all static encounters in this game other than the shiny locked pokemon.

I did this one! It took me 5 days but I got my beautiful blue totodile. I’m at the base of mount silver now and Tanzanite is all grown up as a gorgeous feraligatr

This was my first hunt actually, and it’s still why I don’t despise chikorita
I would say FireRed/LeafGreen is also pretty quick. The one I dreaded the most was UltraSun! Although, they say Sun/Moon were much slower than the Ultra games.
got a shiny totodile in three soft resets after i remembered this fact and decided to try it out on a whim. named him Happy. totodile is still my fav mon to this day because of it. every game i play that has totodile available to get i always shiny hunt it in memory of Happy
Does it actually soft reset by pressing L+R+start+select? I always thought I had to go back to the home menu and reboot the game

Heart Gold, I got the Sudowoodo as a shiny. Hope to keep him around forever and in my other games
Yep, these are the only games where I’ve reset for all three shiny starters and now I’m trying to reset to get a shiny female one
I did this hunt a couple years ago! I ended up getting cyndaquil. I named him gus
This hunt took me around 5k encounters, not counter 3 for every reset so technically 15k mons seen

I mean this is DECENT but I wouldn’t say it’s the best. Definitely one of the easiest. But odds are split into thirds thankfully with the 3 options available. Your odds are halved compared to newer games with the 1/8000. And even if you got one, you’d have a hard time transferring them over to modern games
All things to consider. All in all, I’d just get PLA or get Scarlet/Violet. Even just full odds random encounters get so much higher when you complete the base game Pokédex. I usually find one about every hour when I run around and do checks with that 1/1500 odds or whatever it is with the shiny charm
Once pokemon bank is free imma do this shiny hunt and replay soulsilver. I miss this game so much.

good luck finding a copy, theyre getting expensive. make sure you research how to tell the difference between a real and a fake hgss because theres a lot of knockoff cartridges out there that have save issues and wont let you transfer your pokemon to later gens
Iv successfully hunted all 3 shiny starters even got a spare shiny totodile, and hunted ho-oh and lugia. Now im hunting Lapras.

First: you mean triple probability, not 1/3
Second: the real of obtaining a shiny is 1-[(8191/8192)³]

Quick this is has to be one of the hardest hunts excluding legendaries shiny rates are doubled in this game compared to the New games
I got 4 cyndaquils and 2 or 3 chikoritas before I got my shiny totodile. Took over 12000 resets, so 36k "encounters" not bad definitely worth it
when i saw HGSS pop up for this video concept i was thinking it would be about the cute charm glitch! that cuts shiny odds a lot more im pretty sure

🤣 it's like people thinking a roulette number is due just because it hasn't come up.
It's still 1:8192 shiny rate is for each of the 3 starters, you're just increasing your checks to 3 each time you do one.
He’s saying the odds of getting at least 1 shiny out of the three starters is 1/2730, not for each individual one. The odds are also roughly correct.
This is the last time I’ll reply to this, I meant that it’ll take three times less to reach 8192 encounters
I’ve done this already, got my shiny cyndaquil a few months ago. Still one of my favorite shiny hunts. Fucker decided to shine for me at 4:30 am… I screamed 🙃😂

Technically yes... took me 30k seen to get one, but it was one of the fastest 30k I could do
It took me about a year and 15k encounters but it was to worth it to get totodile. (The one I wanted most)

This is an awesome hunt but this hold my record for longest hunt ever. 3 years and i don't have the exact number on me but It was around 92,000 resets

can you do the glitch were you can get all starters?
If yes, then save after you get the first shiny, reset look for the next shiny starter, the last one will be hard but it might be worth it

This “quick” shiny hunt took me 14 months and my friend decided to start it after I finished and it took him 3 days.
I’ve gotten 4 this way and my girlfriend has gotten 1 and working on a second. It’s such an effortless hunt that you can just vibe to. It can take a while but the odds are better than most starter hunts on account of 3 checks per reset. Can’t recommend this enough it’s probably my personal favorite hunt period. And my personal favorite gen.

If u want to make the shiny hunt easier, there is a way to manipulate the RNG of the game, I managed to get a shiny cyndaquil in around 2 hours, just looks it up on YT

I did this for all the shinies for a new adventure. only would take like 6 months right? I got 6 cyndaquils and 4 chikoritas in 2 months (3 cyndaquils in a single week). But nooooo, The totodile took 3 1/2 years!!! but finally going on that shiny starter adventure now at least.
