HOW EASILY CAN YOU PERFECT YOUR POKEDEX IN POKEMON LEGENDS ARCEUS?

- One of the largest new mechanics in Pokemon Legends Arceus is the introduction of Research Tasks. Each Pokemon has a set list of things to accomplish, and for each one you complete you earn experience points and increase your rank. Across the entire Pokedex there are thousands to complete, but what does it take to do them all? Today we're going to find out how easily you can perfect your entire Pokedex in Pokemon Legends Arceus. This video took a lot of time and effort to put together, so I'd really appreciate it if you shared this with a friend. If you have any suggestions for the next video, leave it in the comments below! Have a great day :)

OMG can't believe at how the game acknowledges this amazing achievement! Glad I watched all the way to the end!
"YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END"
How’d you watch All the way to the end already?
I cant believe John was able to get a Shiny Arceus from the Sinjoh Ruins that knew Big Hit, such an amazing reward!
I can't believe perfecting the Pokedex like that unlocks the Distortion World
Can't believe you go to Unova in the future with Ingo
Even if there was no special reward for getting a Perfect Pokedex, at least you can now play as Luigi
"Fantastic."
Why are you everywhere, soundsmith, now here?

242. Same number you need to 100% Mario galaxy
Your shiny odds increase further
Only Johnstone can not upload for any amount of time and you KNOW he’s been working on a banger video the whole time.
Michael Reeves is the other person I can think of as well
Summoning Salt comes to mind, but John is definitely up there imo.
Still waiting for his 100TB 90 minute video
Yup
You're another candidate for that title!
Wow, how impressive of Nintendo to let you get a shiny Arceus holding the Bird plate to let it change to Bird type like Missingno in Pokemon Red. That's a very cool callback and very fun. I'm so happy Nintendo rewards their most avid players with such special and unique rewards. :)
Ah yes I remember getting that after beating the game. Also catching the secret true boss of the game, level 1000000 shiny bidoof with perfect ivs and max evs, that also has the ability imposter. I'm sorry for spoiling the game everyone.
Its flying

Tbh the way it counts “times evolved” makes a lot of sense - if starly -> staravia counts starly & staravia -> staraptor counts staraptor, staravia should count for both since it’s the reverse condition (evolving into/evolving from)
Yeah no idea why he thinks it's a bug
It seems like it should only count “evolved from” since final evolutions do not have this task
@@boise0lacrosse yeah id expect final evos to have it if it was supposed to count for evolving into
Yeah it's definitely not a bug idk why he thinks that
@@shedinjask but that would be redundant because then you'd have a complete section of Staraptor's tasks without it even involving Staraptor.
now do it again but you can only catch and use shinies for dex completion
Yo Pat
does this mean he has to do the "defeat x amount of times" on only shinies too
@@brenduck he did say "use" so technically using a shiny to defeat should count imo
Patterrz Pog
OH GOD
The evolution stones can actually be found rarely in sparkly mineral outcrops. Not super common drops, but if you go for them whenever you can you'll end up with a decent stockpile without too much time needed
I think it can be in any mineral outcrops not just sparkly since I’ve gotten some just randomly
Leaf stones are got from piles of leaves and I've stones crime piles of snow.
*ice
mr @@jonmcknight18 you can edit comments
Yeah, I've got many spare stones lying around.
Here's a tip: for Pokemon who have to use status condition moves that don't do damage, go fight Magikarp. They can't hurt you and you can spam the move until you run out of PP.
That's what I did
But he says that in the video
@@dreamerofthorns he didn't specify status moves so it's still helpful to point out, even if it's kinda implied
@@bigbadgammagnome you know what, fair
And you could bring pp berries so u don’t have to leave battle
It's INSANE to see how much can be done with this game. It was a total blast watching you take on this journey every day, and great job finishing it all off! Lots of wisdom in this video (like the Sinjoh Shiny Arceus reward)
I swear they must have made a mistake creating the entry for Magnemite, creating it as if it were a normal spawn and not a distortion exclusive, especially since Magnezone appears in the wild!
Also, nice vlog intro. Liked and suscirbed!
Hi Absol I love your full game playthroughs :) keep it up
2 things, mat.
1. did not expect to see you here.
2. do you not know how to spell subscribed?
Like yeah, Magnezone appears in the WILD somehow when Magnemite does not.
Yooooooooo
The most ambitious crossover of all time (and space)
Silcoon and Cascoon time of day catching count if you evolve Wurmple at the correct time and get the right evo! That makes it way easier! Deafeating them is still an issue but catching is doable
Thank you for telling me this
Nah but for real, I definitely appreciate your shiny reactions. They feel way more real for someone who's been mind-numbingly grinding such a painstaking and rewarding task.
Massive Mass Outbreaks have gotta be one of my favorite things in this game. Just rushing up to an outbreak and hearing that little shiny sound get's the dopamine flowing. Got a shiny Spiritomb on the initial 4 spawns and boy was I happy about it.
Doing the quests for mass outbreaks, I was checking a Zorua one and just boom, all of a sudden shiny noise, and I have a shiny Zoroark now, his name is Whisper
Massive Mass Outbreaks have really helped me gain either super rare Pokémon of a specific area or helped me gain a pre evolution of an existing Pokémon that I accidentally either skipped over or didn’t fully complete.
Wait there are Spiritomb outbreaks? Are you telling me I wasted like 4 hours collecting wisps for nothing
@@boianko Well no, I believe you have to have caught the wisp Spiritomb in order for the outbreaks to start spawning.
So I'm like 90% sure you need to do the stupid wisp thing, then just shiny hunt from an outbreak. Much easier than it used to be, but the grind is still there.
@@ARDIZsq if there is any consolation to that stupid Wisp quest, it's that the wisps are MUCH easier to see than those Digletts... I HATED the Alolan Diglett side quest in SwSh
What I find interesting is Arceus’s Research Task. This research task actually makes a lot of sense. It’s single research task states “Received a part of Arceus.” This is interesting because it implies that the Arceus you get in this game isn’t actually the Arceus you meet, but just a fraction of it. This also implies that the Arceus we see isn’t what it actually looks like.
It literally says it in the cutscene
Oh totally, makes sense why a ten year old can catch it in the originals eh?
@@ramonperez5365 who says it's not just a fraction then too?
Which is an implication that I love. I imagine some of the bigger, ridiculously strong Pokemon are simply fragments of the original. So instead of literally catching a god, they gift a part of themselves to you for being worthy.
7:05 You can take advantage of the Pokédex being split into 6 sections, the full dex and one for each area. You can set it so your Fieldlands dex is set to Infernape, and you Mirelands camp is set to Tangela. That way you just have to hit zr and zl to check them both.
I used Ingo's battles for some of the more annoying move and style requirements and just to finish grinding them out after I finished all the defeat x pokemon with a specific type of move tasks
Your pokemon are all healed and all pp restored after each battle, and you can train up weaker pokemon to be able survive a move or two so they can also finish tasks in Ingo battles
This is what I did! Specifically for 'mons like Golem, Machamp, and Alakazam. Much easier to just battle Ingo and Kamado a couple times than hunt the alphas that spawn in a variety of different areas.
I have done this too. Like Thunder and Hydro Pump moves. You can level up 2 or 3 lower ones if you have a good team that can hold their own.
can we please respect how John said 'agile style Psyshield Bash' flawlessly
Fun fact, trading back and forth adds to the "Number Caught" Tasks, and (speculatively) "Number of X forms" where X is heavy or light
So does transferring from Pokémon HOME
The added chance for space time distortions looks like it’s not after you beat the game, but during the dialga/palkia event, i.e. When the sky is red. At least according to what that chart says
The evolution task has to count evolving from and into otherwise you couldn't get some tasks from 3rd stage pokemon. It just so happens that 3 stage evolutions have a middle stage that you evolve into and then out of.
Hope that explanation makes any sense to anyone but me.
They should have separated it into two different tasks to make it less confusing.
I actually completely understand that. That's how it makes sense to me as well
I hope it stays in the game as is. Because even when you say it out loud it fits a check mark for both. Saying I evolved my Pidgey is the same as saying this is the Pigeotto I just evolved. Technically in a way both Pokémon were involved and part of the evolution process, so therefore both should count for the Research Task Number you've evolved.
6:51 I made a spreadsheet with two columns: type of attacking move and type of defending move. EG Infernape had "fire" in the attack category and Tangela had "fire" in the defend category. Then I just matched them up accordingly.
There's wayyy more attacking tasks than defeating tasks though, so you have to do a bunch extra anyway
would you be willing to share that spreadsheet? it sounds like a huge help!!
Can I have that spreadsheet please
Tip for Silcoon and Cascoon I've found out: Just evolve them. Catch plenty of Wurmple. And evolve them until you have all of the catching related ones.
When you started doing this, I was like, "oh great, guess I'm not going to watch John for a few weeks, this sounds boring" but actually I did end up watching quite a bit, it was shockingly fun to watch and gamble on shinies showing up and see the progress being made!
I can 100% say that at August 27th, 2023, evolving Pokemon from stage 1 to stage 3 counts as 2 evolves for the stage 2 Pokemon.
Congrats dude! One hell of an achievement! I no-lifed this too and did it at just over 300 hours/4 weeks. I didnt use mmos when they dropped since I didn't want to cheese the last part after I'd already done the majority of it as a grind, but I plan on doing it again at some point using MMOs and all the knowledge I gained the first time with a target of 150 hours... congrats again on this and GL to anyone else working on it! It's a super fun goal.
Also, love the way you styled this video. Thumbs up from me!
What are MMOs in this context?
@@jonahthurston9231 massive mass outbreaks
With Magnemite its interesting as I believe it was planned to spawn in the wild. Mostly gained this assumption due to Magnezone, who has a 100% encounter while flying in an area
I have around half your game time, and maybe 20 Pokémon perfected. I have the highest respect for you doing this, and congrats on finishing this massive challenge!
Fun fact: from my experience, unkown outbreaks are broken, but can show up in massive mass outbreaks. It sucks, too, because that was my berry outbreak that cycle.
Edit: I got my shiny pink pachirisu from a shaky tree! She's a semi-permanent on my team because she's the first non-event/story shiny I ever caught!
if you mean they dont show up, you have to to into their area, not on top of the mountain where it looks like they are
@@durango7002 I feel so stupid for never realizing this on my own, I always assumed I just couldn't find them on the mountain 💀
This was a blast to watch live, can't wait to see what you do next with Arceus!
I remember doing this one myself, took just over 300 hours and was by far the most satisfied I've felt after any Pokemon challenge.
Shocked people mention Magikarp as hard, he's easily one of the easiest to perfect, it's Aipom and the Pokemon in shaking trees in general that are truly the hardest and most frustrating to perfect in my experience.
All you have to do is watch him splash, which I did while using my Pokemon that needed to use status effects or stat changes like all the Eeveelutions Baby Doll Eyes.
The cap is extremely frustrating for sure, for awhile I just used a notepad
It was great watching this entire challenge on Twitch. I know you said you weren't sure how you would turn it into a video, but you did a great job, John!
This was such a journey to watch live. Well done
22:30 That's actually not true! I had a Carnivine randomly drop a Sun Stone after I defeated it - I remember it specifically because of how surprised and happy I was, since I really wanted to use a Lilligant on my team
Of course, I have no idea how rare that is, so probably not that great of a method for getting a bunch lol
I have gotten a few with Ursaluna treasure hunting. Not sure about Carnivine drops
I’ve been doing this challenge and had the same exact questions of WHY GOD WHY?
The magikarp thing and the evolution thing I’m so glad you found as well, made using mimic with the mime and bonsly family so easy!
Major disappointment was the points total not going over 99,999 I’m seriously hoping they add dlc and push any earned points over that total!
Awesome video absolutely awesome!
Well Gamefrea probably nobody would be insane enough to go past 99,999 points. But Gamefreak clearly doesn't know who plays their games.
I watched some parts live on stream and I have been waiting for the full thing, well done John!
Wow this video was AMAZING for me. I’ve been working on this for a while now (but I’m not doing them in any particular order) This is so relatable, and the Magikarp grinding is a great idea. Looking forward to hunting again after this.
I had so much fun playing this game. If I had 300 hours to lose, I would definitely do this challenge. But I’m gonna stick with your video. Thnx a lot for your great content. Really hyped to know that you have other videos coming for this game !
Today the Azure flute was released on BDSP, I read that you can get a shiny Arceus! I hope you get it that way, you earned it!
this video is incredible, i always come back to watch it every now and again
The dedication for this is crazy man love the content
Congrats on your Shiny Arceus. The Sinjoh Ruins look AMAZING in this game.
im doing this too! had that goal when i opened the game for the first time. people like us must be our own special brand of crazy 😅
Man you're awesome. I wish I saw this video before I started Arceus!
Loved watching it live, congrats on finishing it!
Congrats on finally perfecting the dex John!! You might no have gotten shiny Arceus in legends but at least it can now be shiny hunted in BDSP
The spawning issue is heavily helped with Massive Mass Outbreaks. That’s how I perfected Zoroark
i just wanna say I don't even really like pokemon all that much, but I can't stop watching your videos for some reason lmao. I think it's your voice and/or narration style in all honesty.
Great video! I was thinking of getting perfect on every pokemon but decided to just do some faves that I will want shinies of. Cant wait for the next video!
Commenting before watching just to say: I'm in the process of taking on this challenge myself, and seeing the occasional clip of you doing this on your clips channel has been both very entertaining and has given me motivation to keep going (even though I'm aware there's no reward)
Hey John, love the vids and streams, I’m perfecting the dex to and is suprisingly fun! Keep up the great work
Woo! Perfect Dex Squad! I'm at about 180! Doing it all before Arceus. Keep up the good work!
Okay I've watch about 20 video and I've never sub but now this is the time to change it , boss man keep doin you 👏💯
The raw dedication needed only appear once in a lifetime. And you used it cataloging digital creatures.
Good job
Tip: Keep evolution items in your boxes. It comes in handy for completing and filling in the dex!
I really thought it would've taken 1000hrs+
Well done John
Phenomenal video and your streams of the challenge have been a constant source of enjoyment. Always happy to watch a Johnstone video, and I cannot recommend enough at least following his Twitch (but definitely drop a prime if you have one available).
Idk why but this video was relaxing to listen to, I’m just playing arceus while listening someone who knows about it. And ur voice is nice
Aipom from trees and nosepass from deposits are currently annoying me but I’m slowly doing this
Guess we are on the exact same boat.
These streams were so entertaining and fun to be a part of. Love how the video turned out and looking forward to more :)
Was there for a lot of the streams. Great stuff man. Keep up the great work.
I think a Region based on Africa could work as a Hybrid of Scarlet/Violet's open-world, but with the major areas being split into the 5 Regions of Africa.
(North Africa, Western Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, and Southern Africa + Madagascar)
I knew I was in for a wild ride when I saw that this man had defeated 592 starly
I'm currently doing a Perfect Pokédex Quest myself! I'm around 180. And I'm not a streamer, so I have to do it around a 40-hour work week!
Also, I'm doing it all, including the Path of Solitude marks, *before* I go to meet Arceus.
And yes, trees are my NEMESIS! Aipom was the WORST! I'm mostly done with shaking spots, though. Only bronzor, nosepass, and bergmite left.
Really enjoyed watching you stream this grind, was a chill vibe.
Hanging out during all of these streams was so fun, the video turned out great too!! Can't wait for the next challenge you plan to do
The moment I reached the Mirelands, I went and perfected Petilil’s dex to maximize shiny odds. 2 months later and with the shiny charm in my belt as well, I still have no shiny Petilil. I’m so sad.
Rip. Do you have it now?
@R - G - C Yep, finally found one right next to some of the Goomy and have since gotten trained up. Now I’m just hoping I will be able to transfer it to something like Scarlet and Violet to pair with my shiny Unovan Lilligant from USUM
@@the_godbodor7026 Man congrats!
Congrats John! I'm sad I couldn't catch every stream, but I did make it to some of the later ones. Excited to see what comes next!
33:17 look gary there i am!
Thank you for this video, I wanted to see this challenge so much and was about to do it by myself to have a rough estimation of time lol
Been doing this challenge myself, though limited playtime means im nowhere near done.
Completed all location-based tasks and am only missing the use move and use style tasks for all Pokemon. Planning on doing so while also doing the Path of Perfection with each Perfected Entry.
(Aipom Tree Leap Hell…)
Perseverance and dedication is what I describe John’s content.
this was so good to watch live, well done bro
As soon as I learned about "perfect" entries, I was waiting for this video from you. Wow.
I've been completing the challenge too and found out one of the best ways to farm agile or strong style moves is using non-damaging status moves vs Magikarp. It really saved me a lot of time as I could spam use 10+ strong/agile moves vs only 1 Pokémon per Pokémon on my team
I was very upset to realize Johnstone was NOT live when watching this video
Seriously though, incredible video my man. The amount of dedication you have is insane. Keep it up, king!
All your videos take SO much effort. Kudos to you sir. A legend. 🙏
i got this game last month and compared to other games, this has to be my fav pokemon game. maybe its bc of how freely you can catch the pokemon and the quests for the pokedex which were all a super nice surprise
I’ve been working on perfecting mine too, up to about 180 and starting to burnout. But once I saw that reward at the end, I knew that I need to finish this. Thanks Johnstone!
To be honest the normal grind to get Lvl 10 on all of the entries is actually surprisingly fun and rewarding. Idk about perfecting the dex though, doesn't seem like shiny Arceus is gonna be a thing time soon.
Watching this for like the eighth time now, in the hopes that it will help me keep up the motivation to pull it off myself. I've never even finished a pokedex in a regular pokemon game, but I'm determined to perfect this one.
So a couple of things about this video.
1. I can't believe you did this you absolute God Gamer.
2. This is probably one of your funniest videos that I have ever watched.
3. I am already rethinking my plan to do this exact thing so thank you for showing me how much I have to hate myself to attempt this.
But what does eevee evolve into when you give it a Johnstone? 🤔
A Johneon, obviously
A Completeon!
...too corny?
Thanks for the overview and pitfalls of this completionist dream! You've given me some great ideas to structure how I work on it. I'm going to mark on the maps where the rare/alphas I need to essentially reload the map to complete the catching portion of and just go to regions for outbreaks, making sure to hit those spots afterwards before I leave the map. And of course with a team full of mons that need to use more moves. That way I can semi-passively complete a lot of entries while mainly shiny hunting
Love your vids John, your vids are now my scarlet masuda method breeding vids ahahah
I remember how fun this video was once it came out. I can say its still a lot of fun to just rewatch
This video was uploaded the day shiny Arceus became available to hunt in BDSP. Maybe it actually was the reward
That was lazy of the developers to not even have some dialogue ready for perfecting the dex. At the very least if they were waiting for dlc, they could have given a tease towards the dlc.
Wow, the foreshadowing of catching every shiny Pokémon was nuts, glad you finished the Let’s Go challenge haha
Bro normal people think why would u waste ur time doing this but I say u have dedication
Wow, the amount of content this game has is insane!! Perfecting every Pokemon in the game is an amazing feat great job
Can't believe he finally got the shiny Arceus for perfecting the dex.
But I thought it was the perfect bidoof as the final reward 🤔
I’m so exited for you this took so long and you got did amazing!
Nice work John. Might as well start on the Shiny and Alpha dex. Good luck!
I remember I saw Garchomps entry to use a strong style move 100 times or smth like that, I'm pretty sure by the time I was had almost caught every pokemon I was only at 50 (my garchomp was overlevled so i always used him)
Do the trainer battlegrounds in jubilife village. Make strong uses of Earth Power and Dragon Claw. It's what I did.
Almost 150 hours in, my completionist brain doesn't want me to progress the story past defeating avalugg because I've been captivated by completing the Pokédex to perfection...
Needless to say, I knew about pretty much all tips and tricks in this video, besides some of the mechanics of the rifts (thank you!).
And I'm probably too stubborn to complete the story and gain access to massive mass outbreaks before perfecting everything else.
You can get shinies so easily in this game and I'm here for it, and even easier if you perfect an entry instead of having it "complete." So now since I'm aiming for a whole shiny pokedex, this is a "perfect" tutorial. ( no pun intended )
Thanks John !
you deserve so much more. This is incredible
Just a heads up for those wanting to do this. Trading the same pokemon from one game to another, then back again will increase the number caught. So you don't have to evolve silly amounts of certain pokemon. This is also works for larger/smaller specimens. :D
I'm doing this right now (and shiny hunting in the process) Well done for doing it :D
Just finished perfecting my Dex today, so perfect time for this video to show up in my suggestions. 🤣
Loved watching this live! There were so many funny moments, so I fully recommend checking out his twitch!
This video is so good I have seen it about ten times
Eyy it was so funny to see RyanwasTaken randomly pop up! he is such a great dude!
