- In this video I will show how it's possible to repair an old Sinar DB automatic Copal shutter, that have problems with the slow gear, and way too long exposure time from 1/30 second and up till 8. second.
And also another issues with the weak main spring, that I actually cut a little shorter so the tension was fine again, and the shutter works again as it should.
I have no (0) idea where to get spare parts, so this was the way I fix it, and it work's :-)
I remember using that shutter with a Sinar P1 8x10 - used to think that a Hasselblad or Pentax 67 had a loud shutter but this one was so loud it scared some of my models (and myself when I first used it).
Never opened it so I'm really happy you made the video, it's fantastic to see what goes on inside!!!
Yeah it's an amazing loud shutter, and really interesting mechanic inside.
Excellent video. I am one with problems with two DB shutters. One is sticky and the timing is off and the other there is a problem with the aperture linkage moving the lever that goes to the lens. So, guess I'll clean off the workbench and give it a go. Cheers.
Hi Kenneth; Thanks for the information. When I have to lube a gear shaft I put oil on cotton swab and just dab and wipe away excess. I have made too many messes with using a syringe. I am too heavy handed. As always, great video.
Thank's Tom, it's also another way to add oli on the gear shaft that I some do so, but it depending what's the case.
Thank you so much for sharing !!
Hello, I have a problem with my D610, I can only take pictures with 1000 speed. If you increase the mirror hangs, what can it be?
Hej Mike!
I'm about to begin purchasing a set of vintage photo lenses for cinematography. I'm based in Japan where I can get good prices on secondhand Mamiya Sekor C 645 and Canon FD prime lenses. Of those two type of lenses, which would you say are the easiest to dismantle and clean? I ask because I can get especially good prices on lenses with fungus, etc - and, thanks to your tutorials, I'm quite keen to buy "junk" lenses and fix them myself! :-)
Hope you see this message and can offer your opinion on the subject.
All the best from Tottori, Japan,
Thaddeus
If anyone here in the comments section has an opinion on the difficulty of dismantling and cleaning Mamiya Sekor C 645 versus dismantling and cleaning Canon FD prime lenses, I'd also be very grateful for your advice (I notice that some of you seem to have extensive experience). Thanks :-)
Hi Thaddeus
How difficult / easy the lenses are to work with it depence what lens'. In some cases the Mamiya is "easy" in a way and in other cases the Canon FD lenses is also "easy" in a way, but of course if you have the right tool it should in many cases be not that "hard".
Just remember when working with focus helicoids in most lenses, set a small mark where the helicoids seperate and remember how many turns the helicoids turn before it seperate's, because the repair manuals don't show it in the manual.
When working with the aperture blades also remember to set a small mark inside the where the aperture topplate (I don't know the correct name..) is sitting, before take out the aperture assembly so when assemble it, the aperture assembly sit's correct.
I think it's also interesting, when choose how different the lens' performing in the way they redering the picture / filming.
In all, I like to work with both lens brands.
My copal shutter doesn't work on 1/30 and 1/60. Do you have a tutorial on that problem or can you describe how to fix it? //Tomas
I Mr Mikeno 62, have you some video about contax iia vertical rangefinder alignment?
I will work on a video sooner when I have the time.
@@mikeno62 Thank you Mr Mikeno 62.
Do you repair/clean fungus lens?
Sorry, I do not have repair service.
@@mikeno62 thanks for replying
In what situation would you use this?
It's a shutter for large format photography (I hope it was what you asking about)
