Does software for the 2006 2500 Sprinter identify a specific glow plug fault (one of the five) if there are performance problems after initial starting for those 20-30 seconds of running time where glow plugs should still heat fuel for lower emissions and better running? This is assuming a new glow plug control module has been installed.

+Vincent Rolfe From my understanding yes it does. They are pretty sensitive to any variations and will set a code in a heart beat if one is out of spec. Usually when we have one fault, the sure fire way to fix it without having another code pop up a month later is to replace all the glow plugs and the relay/module. Hope that answers your question.

thanks great video, Have a sprinter that does not want to start when its hot, have to wait for it to get to around 180 , also loses power and doesn't down shift sometimes. Someone suggested cleaning the egr, any thoughts?

desertgreek Have you had a chance to pull any codes? Yes a stuck open EGR can cause the engine to go into Limp home mode along with numerous other things on these vans. I would gather any codes that you might have and let me know what you find. It should help narrow the field. Thanks for watching!

no engine lights or warning lights of any kind on the dash, so I don't think any codes would pop up, Took off the EGR and cleaned it up, it was covered in a thick layer of grease, this grease went all the way into the intake manifold. Theres allways a little puddle of oil in front of the egr. opening. It runs fine, however when I use the ac or have the truck under a load and it gets hot, If I turn it off it will not start, have to wait a bit, say 10 mins, and then it starts instantly? any ideas? Someone suggested a faulty cam sensor?

desertgreek Nicholas It might be a crank sensor or a cam sensor that could cause a hot soak not start. You could try an replace 1 at a time to see if that helps. If a buddy has a OBD 2 scanner, I would try that before I would dump money swapping parts.... Parts changing can get expensive rather quickly. Did the EGR cleaning help your Limp Home symptom?

no lights went on at all on the dash, so I don't think any codes will show. If we had codes I think the mystery would be easier, however I read a dealer post that suggested pulling the plug on the egr and seeing if the engine would run better? However that would trip a code on the computer and I did not want to do that. Someone suggested that the cam sensor on the back of the head can sometimes do this? Then someone suggested a leaky fuel injector? Any ideas? Starts and runs fine when its cold, then the sludgy performance and non starting issues are all when the temp gauge is above 180? thanks Nicholas
