It was exactly that. Warner Bros. knew about the multi-million signatures on a petition to completely remove her, not scale down her role, but REMOVE. They chose to ignore the fans & preferred to kept that lying, trashy, spouse abusing, defaming, drunk-driving friend killing (literally), ex-stripper Z-list “celebrity”.
Warner Bros. completely shat in the beds of all the fans whose money they need/want. Bad move WB, bad move!
Nearly 5 million people signed a petition to have AH removed from the film. That’s nearly 5 million people who stayed home from the film + whomever they would have brought with them to see the film. Easily over $100 million dollars rejected by those who chose to keep AH in the film.
That's exactly right. For as little time as the turd was in this film, they could have reshot those scenes with someone else and maybe it would have paid off.

Oh - Absolutely agree - yes, I was one of them and I`m still perplexed at the fact that apart from the signatures they continued on with Amber Heard in the film and run the whole franchise into the side of a cliff in a screaming heap - even if they paid out Amber`s contract and did the re-shoots - Aquaman would of made the money they were (and still) hoping for, but this is the hard reality of it - I feel sorry for the investors.....just treated like suckers.
BTW, the 5 million petitioners also have friends and families that boycotted the film.
For each that signed there is at least 20 that didn't go to watch because of AH that didn't even know that petition existed and 5 that did know, agreed, but didn't sign because privacy concerns. The amount of signatures should have been a VERY BIG warning sign for the studio.
I was one of the millions of people who signed the petition to have AH removed from the movie and I will not watch it because she is in it!!! I will not support an abuser, period!!! She did this to herself imo. Anyone has the right to see the movie if they want but it won’t be me!!!

It's a mystery why they even made a sequel to the first. I mean the CGI, which to no surprise is a huge portion of the film, was terrible.
Jason Momoa, who will always be Khal Drogo in my mind because I can't imagine anyone else ever playing that role as well, has otherwise NOT proven to be as convincing in other roles I've seen him in & I've seen quite a few, including the 1st Aquaman.
Overall the making of this film is a mystery in itself.
I feel like the success of the first was due to increased desperation for content during the pandemic (even though it was released in LATE Dec 2018), but maybe the lack of quality "fantasy" genre films, as well as people really having no qualifying bar of acceptance for "superhero" films (they generally accept any 💩 the studio drops).

It's kinda sad how one actor/actress can ruin a movie outside of what they do on screen. 100s of people put effort in making the movie, and 1 person can cause it to fail. That being said, I don't feel bad because AH brought this on herself when she tried to weaponize the metoo movement for herself.

Then I realized they get paid usually at the time of production for their work. So the whining of the ones, who made the decision to keep AH in the movie, annoyed me, and I chose to boycott.

Can't lose that much if your box office is near $400M. Even if they lied about the budget and it was $300M and marketing half that $150M, that's still just $450M, $450M-$400M/2 = $250M. If they didn't lie about the budget (which is unlikely with reshoots) it's $100M-$150M depending of marketing. But it still lost money. It is a flop, and main cause for that is AH.
Dont forget to add vod sales, ancillaries, ott rights, merchandising which will eventually reduce the loss and turn profits after 1-2 years

Even with a lowered budget and small marketing, they are not factoring in theater cuts. If it was $205 million with $150 million ($355 high end), that means they would need about $530 million.

Aquaman 2 is nowhere near to breaking even, you have the original budget, then multiple reshoots, then marketing and advertising and also the theatres cut of profits for showing this dumpster fire of a movie.
All they had to do was fire her in the first place and they probably would have had another billion dollar film if not close on their hands. It honestly wasn't even that bad a film.
It could have been the WORST movie EVER. If WB had gotten rid of Amber, out of principle, I'd have gone to see it 10x over.
It's pathetic how they try to spin it as success. Even if it's just 205 million, even if you just go with 120 million for marketing, it needs 650 million to break even. It doesn't even make 400 million. That's a 125 million lose for the studio.
It probably is more, because from China, they don't get 50/50, they get far less. In China the movie made over 50 million, but the studio won't get 25 million from that, but less than 15 million.
Also, right after the opening weekend, in the domestic box office, the movie dropped out of the top spot, dropped to 4th after a week, and this movie was supposed to dominate the box office for weeks, but now it loses 9 figures.
It just blows my mind, how they try to lie to themselves. How they don't just say, yeah, the movie loses money, it flopped. Just why? Nobody who knows just a little about how the box office works, buys it.

You build houses, you have one good house to present, and all the others ard made out of bad material. You produce cars, you have one prototype to show, but it either never enters mass production, or if it does, all the engines break down, or they use worse, cheaper engines and steal the money. Often times they just lied about the production numbers because they had to meet a quota. If something didn't work out, it was just ignored.
