  • Took a short hike out in the woodland of the Chattahoochee Oconee Forest in the North Georgia mountains to put my get home bag to the test and do a little camping.

Thank you. Like I said in the video, I wasn't bush-crafting. Just testing a quick get home back and a quick shelter to get in and out.

that was a good overnight. a couple of suggestions on shelter. coal cracker has a quick set up shelter called the T6 zero. the t6zero is $75. tarp with the ridge line attached to the tarp. self reliance outfitters has a shelter kit that comes with a emergency blanket, more like a tarp, paracord, bank line and stakes. the self reliance outfitters kit is $30. i have the self reliance outfitters kit. the blanket is heavy duty and works great. those mylar blankets are not very durable and will rip. have fun in the woods

LOL yup, it did what I needed it to do. The whole Idea is to have a get-home bag and not spend a lot of money.

I enjoyed your video. I agree with testing out your gear before having to use it for real. I have found that things I thought would work did not fair so well after using them in real life. I bought a couple of Wise Owl Outfitters Camping Tarps from Amazon. They were only $11 each. I put one in my Get Home Bag and the other for backup in my vehicle. This tarp is very light and compact. I ditched the stakes and put in 4 better ones. I added a ridge line that is all ready to go and 4 guy out lines if I decide to pitch the tarp differently, but all you really need is the ridge line and stakes. I made the ridge line up the way Dave Canturbery does in his classes on CZcams. Works very well and is easy to deploy quickly. I also have a 55-gallon bin liner that covers my upper body well. Thanks for sharing get home bag video. You gave me some good ideas for a small survival kit.

Thank you for the wonderful comments. I agree, I'm always learning and adjusting. Most people think they are for shtf but they are for more than that. Breaking down in the mountains, no signal. Flooded roads, break down in the middle of no where. My opinion, every family should carry one in their car. Thank you for watching.

Awesome job on that shelter and I am loving that wood stove too. I used to really like the MRE meals when Tim got them during his military time. Nice to hear that emergency blanket did a great job for you too. Good plan on changing your strategy for next time.

Hey brother! Really good video. I wish more people tested their kits & plans like this. Thanks for the shout out! I really appreciate that. I'm hoping that you are enjoying the Firebox nano. I like your ideas on improving your shelter. I've had my 4H kids build a debris shelter using a mylar blanket like that & it really showed them the wisdom of carrying something that can quickly assembled. Have you thought about getting an inflatable pad that you can place on top of a sheet of plastic? Just a thought. Finding the right kit for the right time of year & location can be tricky. You did a really good job!

Hey my friend. I appreciate that. I have thought about a foam pad on top of the leaf bed and an inflatable mattress. I am in limbo on a decision. You are right about finding a kit for location and climate. I even thought about a spare set of clothes. Decisions, decisions. Thank you for watching, sharing and the good ideas as always!

Consider buying a can of bear repellent. It works well against most animals, including human
