Today we are talking about EDC Kits! I've been working on mine for over 3 years now and am really happy where it sits. On any given day I could be building a cabinet, producing a video, wandering back roads, or rebuilding a carburetor on the side of a road so my kit has to be fairly diverse and ready for action. The most important thing for any kit is that is serves you best; and remember that to build a truly effective EDC Kit you'll need time. Building a good EDC Kit is a great exercise in being present as well because you have to actually consider what you do daily and how you do it. Let me know what EDC Kit questions you have and what your kits look like in the comments!

I use olight baton 3 for work, but also on a bicycle. I clip it on baseball cap shield from top. Fits perfectly from head to the end of belt pin and great battery life/brightness. Just restrict from extra fast movements or it flies off; too wide light beam. They discontinued this model, but check length of the bball shield and some other flashlight, maybe it would be better than a hair tie. After cca1,5years expect lower quality because led wear, I use it about 2hrs every day, sometimes even 1 battery a day. Work one fell like 1000 times in the last 3years and still going. If I am off topic just ignore.

I am an electrician by trade and I will give you a pro tip. I carry any color electrical tape but black. Black tape has black adhesive that gets on everything even your cuts (I use it to stop bleeding too). The other color tapes have clear adhesive so you don't end up with black goo on white walls.

I love how these kits are specific to the presenter- as they should be. Speaking of gift cards, they are perfect emergency ice scrapers if you don't normally have one in the car (i.e. you don't live in cold climates)- pliable, minimalist, and non-marring. I've had to use a card once when my rental car didn't have it stored in the trunk (freak storm). I remember it taking more time than a dedicated ice scraper, not to mention freezing fingers, but it got my windows and mirrors cleared way faster than relying on a mixture of defroster, washer fluid, and wipers like a noob.
Doesn't beat the hair-tie-on-flashlight combo though- you're a hero if you come through with a hair tie at the right time.

Much like the spork, I've been carrying a pair of collapsible chopstick as part of my edc for probably 5 years now and have gotten TONS of use out of it. Not just for food, but they're also super handy if I drop something small, like a screw, in a tight area and I don't have (or can't safely use) a magnet. I also carry a zippo as a lighter, but I replaced the insert with a butane torch. It's refillable, doesn't leak, lights in the wind, and if it ever needs to be refilled, butane refills are pretty easy to find at convenience stores and pharmacies. I wouldn't say it's superior to a cheap bic lighter, but it DOES fit in the watch pocket on a pair of jeans perfectly! Anyway, great video! Can't wait to see that chopper build!

As a fellow frequent traveler, besides some light first aid like a disinfectant, I can suggest two additions to the kit that do not add much weight and take almost no space. I have these in my kit, and I have found useful over the years:
    1. Several zip-ties (different length but with the same head, so that they can be extended).

      4. Shoelace replacement
      5. Starting a fire (used as tinder or as a string for bow drill)

I love how personalized edc is. I was into edc before I knew the term, but after discovering the community I have gotten really into perfecting what's in my pockets and bags. What I carry is what I've found to be perfect for my daily needs, but everyone lives a different life so everyone has different things in their edc. And I love trying new gear but sometimes you just keep reverting back to your old favorites, ya know?
You've got a lot of power cords. You ever try the levergear cable kit? After adding that to my edc I've found I don't have to carry more than one cable because the cable kit not only has a short cable which is ideal for use with a powerbank, but an adapter. So for me, a usbc cable with a micro USB is ideal, but they also have a lightening version and a usbc to lightening adapter.

Consider a tampon. For major injuries to yourself or others the best way to stop bleeding (especially on areas that bleed incredibly quickly like head wounds) is to stuff with a tampon and tape tightly. So it will soak up the blood and create a clot as it expands and creates pressure against the tightly wrapped tape/bandage. Super small item that can save lives 👍

You should add a couple different sizes of band aids and a small tube of antiseptic gel. They also make compressed towels that are tiny and expand when wet. Small bottle of hand sanitizer is also not a bad idea.

Hey Zach! Well thought out kit.
I carry a micro kit which contains the following:
    - A few strips of Gaffers tape
    - Gorilla tape
    - 2 safety pins
    - A small 6 in 1 charging cable
    - A small but powerful magnet on a small key ring with 7-8 feet of micro cord attached to the ring in order to retrieve my keys if I drop them where they cannot be reached, etc. (many uses for this)
    - About 8-10 feet additional feet of micro cord
    - A Fresnel lens
    - A mini Bic lighter
    - Some small Zip ties
    - A few rubber bands
    - A couple of paper clips.
These are carried in a small 5”x4” zipper pouch which I put in my small EDC Haversack.
Good to see you and thanks again for sharing what you carry!

One suggestion, use a small screwdriver and pry that POS child protector off the Bic lighter. It requires we use much stronger force, so it's much easier to start without it, and it's not needed. I saw a guy mention wrapping electrical tape on the Bic as well as wrapping some twine. In your case you take a roll of tape. For sailing I always take duct table out with me.

That's a pretty good EDC for your needs, and not a lot of people really have videos like this, so we'll done on your presentation and explanation of what you have and why.
Here's basically what I have as my EDC, and this is all pocket carry as I do have a bag for work that contains some extras for what I may need, but so far my pocket EDC has been useful for my basic day to day requirements:
I've got my Leatherman Surge (with pocket clip, and yes I carry it like that)
Small sized BIC lighter (there when really needed most)
Pen (for when I quickly have to take down info)
Wireless earbuds (does come in handy when receiving calls and you can't use your hands to hold the phone at the same time)
USB with both USB A and USB C capabilities (especially useful when I need to send information / data / spreadsheets through for work related purposes that aren't usually stored on my phone, hence the built in USB C functionality)
Those are the basics, but I also have a car charger plug with USB A and USB C ports with a USB C - USB C cable, USB A - USB C cable & USB A - Micro USB cable for when me or my colleague needs to charge our devices, and when I may also need to charge the standby phone etc. I also have my Leatherman Bit Kit + Ratchet Driver for when I need that, and I guess that's basically what my daily EDC kit consists of. Not much, but definitely the stuff I use and require most of the time.

You might want to have a look into the mini version of the Knipex pliers wrench. I cannot say enough good things about those - my main gripe with the old style crescent wrenches is that they always wiggle themselves open and you have to readjust all the time. This is no factor anymore with the Knipex ones. They are a tad pricey but worth it IMO.

    Exchange electric-tape for sports-tape.
Stronger, better adhesive, easier to tear, does not stretch, sticks for longer and simply more useful in a pinch and to repair stuff :)

Hey Zac! I'm still working on my EDC kit, but I've got a go-to set of things I keep with me regularly in my NutSac Muy Grande. As a College student, I've always got my phone, my laptop, and my earbuds (and their chargers) in there, along with a deck of cards, 0.7 pencil lead, altoid minis, a pokka pen, and my Victorinox Explorer. Other stuff ends up in there too, but that's my always gear that stays in there at all times unless I'm using it! Thanks for another awesome vid, bro!

I've been carrying a small sling bag from Amazon for the past 4 years or so. Its not big by any means but it carry's a lot. It's got some Molly on the outside that I slipped a Kershaw Launch 11 (I think its the 11, its the smaller non Cali compliant one). Everything else would make this post too long but to give a short overview, I carry a lot of stuff for pain (I've had 34 surgeries for bone tumors) which consist of your standard over the counter stuff and Kratom. My daughter is with me most of the time so I have children's over the counter stuff too (she also has tumors). Then its mostly backup EDC stuff plus a Gerber multitool. I'm sure there are more than a few redundancies but it's a habit at this point lol

Anker now has a combo wall charger and battery pack, the 733. It's capable of running my laptop or Steam Deck if I really need to. 10 amp hour battery, which is half of your battery, but if you feel the need to compress the kit further, that's a great option. Their GaN chargers are getting smaller and more powerful every iteration without burning up.
