    I called my local dealer who sells both Polaris and Canam. He shot me over to his service department. They were the ones who told me they have 5-10 Polaris’s in for repair for every one Canam they have come in for repair... we were talking mechanical issues not driver error. That spoke volumes to me, I think I’m headed the BRP direction.

    So I was looking at both of these machines a few months ago ended up going with the KRX. Since then I’ve wondered did I buy the right machine. Not because I’m not happy with the KRX because the things a beast. More so because I was curious about the XRC. I felt the same sitting in the XRC really like the seating better and the doors better. Thanks for making this video! Makes me feel much better about the purchase I made without being able to drive both. Can’t wait to see what Dave thinks of the KRX. Your all’s channel is awesome.

    Hey guys great review! I have an xrc and a riding buddy has a krx. We run pretty hard in Arizona desert. With the stock set up i think you were right on. I have modified my xrc with dual springs and shock rebuild front and back. My rebuild was done by shock therapy. Its a totally different machine after the dual springs were installed. I couldn’t help but follow the springs up with revalued shocks by shock therapy. The biggest surprise is it handles the rocks much belter too. There much more give in the suspension that give the xrc more control crawling over boulders. I put my front control back on because my speeds are much faster on the trails and i eat up the corners. The ride is smoooth no more chatter As we all know one thing always leads to another. I have ordered up graded control arms to handle the xtra stress this machine now can deliver to the suspension. Pocket change fab has control arms that are much stronger plus they add 5 inches in length. I don’t feel the need to raise the machine up with bigger tires. I wonder if people putting bigger tires on are putting a bandaid on hoping it’ll take the chatter out of the ride. aId put your money into the dual springs

    That little shelf at 3:47 always freaks me out when I take it on my Sportsman 800. I know the machine has enough power, but that shorter wheelbase just makes it feel so tippy. I guess its just a matter of trusting the machine and taking it over more obstacles to build experience.

    Yeah ultimately this is coming down to a matter of speed, how fast you can take trails that are rough and the next is with of the car and the advantage or disadvantage of the width. which really can’t be compared because each will excel in different environments, there are many roads I’ve traveled down the Krx would never fit so you would never be able to ride it , but there are dirt roads that I would love to take it on that are wider. I think everyone will come to a conclusion “ what kind of riding am I going to do most of the time, and what are the compromises when I’m not ? the XRC will go through the desert all day long at 10-20 mile an hour slower than KRX but it will go, and it will be I don’t see the downside it just matters at what speed you do it, And comfortable as long as you don’t push it beyond its capability and have the shocks set up correctly, if you want to just go blasting through the desert as fast as you can then the KRX is the machine for that, each will cross over into others territory but may not excel in that area, as there are many roads/trails the KRX & wider machines will not fit down, but are you ever gonna have to worry about places to ride the answer is no...

  • @RobGADV
    @RobGADV Před 4 lety +6

    From watching the XRC on the whoops, it looks like the shocks are the problem. The rear needs rebound adjustment.. notice how the back end is "jumping up" (extending) so fast over each of the whoops. That needs to be slowed down. I guess the Maverick Sport doesn't get the fancy RC2 shocks of the X3's, which have high and low speed settings for both rebound and compression.
    From watching this and other videos, I think the Liberty tires aren't that great. They're probably fine all-around tires but they aren't sticky enough for playing on the rocks.
    Throttle response -- not having driven one, all I can say is I think the KRX needs better clutching. It's initial backshift could happen a lot faster, which would improve the throttle response considerably.
    Agreed on the KRX seat sliders... what the hell, Kawi? I also wish the seats would fold forward since there's so much room behind the seats (for us shorter folks).

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  Před 4 lety +2

      I totally agree with you on your comments. The tires need to go so keep watching. Also the weight of the KRX will affect hole shot, but like you said clutching can be tuned to get that fixed as well. Also seats that slide up so you could get behind them easier would be awesome. 👍 -Garrett

    Looking to buy a machine this year and enjoyed your input. The thing I think is if you were to put this machines in a different environment you would probably have a completely different opinion. I live up in the north west, where there is although tighter trails and TREES so size matters. It would be cool to move to one of those environments to see what you think then? It does seem that the XRC has vary stiff springs though. A different spring package and shock adjustment could make a big difference. Good to here that zap therapy is working on it. KRX seems like a good all rounder but a bit big for tight trails.

The trail is so tight that he can’t even use the machine for what it’s meant for. I wouldn’t want anything wider than 64 inch around here. All same class but meant to perform a bit different in certain categories. The real diff maker has gotta be the trailing arms that makes the xrc in a couple spots sit behind. But size and nimbleness it shines good. I have the Xmr and the shock settings are great for what it's meant for but shocked that a Specified XRC would be same stiffness. I figured has to be softer to some degree. I think Can am missed on that. Fit and finish on the sports are hard to beat.
    Im gonna say, it's nice having the sport in ways with no trailing arms in some cases the full 15 ground clearance is nice. But imagine Can am passed on this new style rear suspension hanging out back and kept rest the same... And used trailing arms?
    That would make this vs all so much tighter. Would it make the xrc sport better? Can't say it would. Get an X3 then. But for my version xmr and xxc , the set up now is awesome for mud and fast trails. I love xrc but think if I was living by the area you guys ride, same unit with trailing arms be better.

    Annnd with the powder coating which I do with all our fabbed products I can say I hated that about can am. Fit and finish awesome excluding that and the weld splatters on cages etc. My RZR powder coating and what not were always better.
    Weld splatter must not be in quality control list for can am. The powder coating they use often is texture black or colours. They are horrible for exterior products, if moisture than even worse. Nothing really matches with it except a can of spray paint. It's thin and cheap although more costly to do usually.
    I haven't see Kawasaki coating but if it's like Polaris than its better. Easier to recoat etc.
    Front sway bar on does put this xrc on rails more for sure. But all around once you adjust, having it off makes ride overall more plush. Personal preference as to where you ride most. I know where I almost roll my xp1k all the time, and the sport 64s with sways all on doesn't. Pretty impressive.

    The apples to oranges comparison comments crack me up. The KRX and XRC are both marketed to target the same people, the same terrain, and at comparable price points. You guys are really showing the differences between the a-arm vs trailing arm rear suspensions. High and low points to each, with the advantage going to the trailing arms IMO. I've owned both. My General would be very comparable to the XRC suspension, and there is only so much you can do when limited to 14" of travel. The Elka shocks helped, but come on, 21" on the rear of the KRX is unbeatable.
    So far a great unbiased, subjective review Garrett. Keep up the great work, and hopefully Dave and Joe will do equally as well. This is a great comparison. The Honda is kind of the odd man out but it will be fun to see how the 4 seater compares to the shorter machines.

      I know Moab is considered to be the Mecca of off roading. I would like to know how many people travel to each area. I've been to Moab, absolutely beautiful country, but totally different from the east. It's hard to compare trail riding in Utah to trail riding in W.Va. I think you've done a great job in trying to point that out. With Hatfield McCoy trail system being within a days drive from highly populated areas, the participation late should be high. I think most riders and drivers don't get to experience desert conditions, so they travel far to do it. Many of the people riding Utah may be from W.Va. and points East. Your comment could be taken in a backhanded way. Whatever machine you choose baring a catastrophe, it will last longer in Utah than it will riding anywhere in the East. Keep up the good work and keep on keeping on.

      My opinion is they both fit tall guys pretty well. The KRX is easier for a big guy to get into. However the dead pedals are kind of weird. Cabin space is good in the KRX. Once you get in the xrc I think the foot space is better, but the cabin space is smaller. Go check them both out.

      If your tall and skinny, both are pretty roomy. If your tall and ummmm... not skinny, The KRX is better and the cab in the X RC is pretty narrow.
      With that said, the dead pedal in the KRX is not good. I have a 36” inseam and my left leg was never comfortable. Plenty of room for the right leg though. There is plenty of room in the KRX to move the seat back if you want to mod it though.
      Both are awesome rigs. -Joe

    I get that you are testing the machines you guys have.. but as for suspension In the whoops an comparing machines.. the can am xrc is not a fair comparison to the competition.. there full size large chassis machines.. try the x3 X rc.. full size can am rock machine..

      Sorry but I have to disagree. These machines are marketed to people the same, built for trails and for rocks. They both run different suspension to do it , but still in the same category. I have heard so many say the KRX shouldn’t be marketed as a sport machine because it’s to slow compared to the X3 or something similar. I just feel these two stack up better to each other then people think in my opinion. 👍 -Garrett

    Yeah, I think you would need to take it out Dave's way. The spring kit does get rid of the chatter, but that is on CanAm for not selling it stock like that. Are you rock crawling in "Eco" mode? That drastically changs throttle response. I think on the RC that should be rock mode. If you guy mostly ride whoopy trails then the RC is the wrong car. Then again Utah has a lot of variety like AZ. Clearly you guys live near and ride most often at Sand Hallow.

      It was in rock mode during the rocks. The whoops are every where riding out to the dunes. We also do a lot of mountain stuff in the summer. We have been trying to get as many miles as we can in each other’s cars. 👍

      @@DerangedOffRoad I don't ride with the sway bar off and it does corner very well. I would imagine much better with it on. You are also accustom to driving the way you do in the KRX. My driving style is very different. When I ride with people that have X3's or other big machines, they drive straight down the trail. I tend to drive like I did on the motorcycle picking a line . If you think of it that way, you may end up appreciating each other's ride better, but there is no place like home. I also think of your group, you are the most aggressive driver.

    Great video-but the XRC was specifically designed and constructed for rocky terrain and clearing obstacles. Any time spent on decrying it for not being a decent “woop machine,” would be like comparing how a Jeep does at the Rubicon versus a rally truck attempting the same.

      You're correct. We've been very clear in many videos that we didn't expect this machine to perform exceptionally well in the whoops.
