  • We travelled to Sicamous, British Columbia to drive the latest side-by-side from Can-Am, the Maverick Sport. What we found was beautiful wilderness and an exciting machine.

    I have been cutting half windshields in half for about 6 years because no one makes them. Its perfect when water splashes over the hood it keeps it off your lap. When its cold and your hauling a__ it keeps wind off your chest and arms... Love quarter windshields!!!

    I've always had Polaris ATV's since at least 1994. Never really wanted/needed anything else. Then came Can am. Game changer, a whole different class both in sound and power.
    Went and got me a Can-am Sport DPS 1000R. Wow. 100hp is fast and powerful but if I had to do it again I'd splurge for the x3 turbo. But this Sport was sitting in the showroom with $6500 loaded on it and if I bought it right then they'd give me another year and a half warranty...SOLD!

    I bought the 1000R sport and i must say he is bang on with his comments. One thing he did not mention was there is no cab heat at all on these. @Mike-zn9xt Před 5 lety

      @@atlnative8222 honestly yes for my type of driving. It's a trail/sport machine. If you want to play in open areas/dune or track buy an X3. If you trail and field ride this machine is awesome. I can keep up and even push 1000cc quads in the trails. Love it. We always want more power but I don't need it. Can't use it all in the trails.

    I am stuck between purchasing the base model maverick X3 or the maverick sport r. I like both trails and wide open roads. I worry the X3 will be too big being 4 inches wider and about a foot longer. Also the X3 seems you sit so low and seeing over the hood might hamper vision in trails more. Curious what would you pick if you had the choice?
    X3 seems like maybe a better bang for the buck being only $1500 more than the sport??

    Big fan of Can Am. Had a chance a few yrs back to go to a ride event and I'm sold for sure. My only issue is the pricing...too much for me at the moment. I don't think the pricing is horrible for what your getting it's just a lot to spend on a toy especially one that I have few options of places to ride close to home. I'll get my fix renting where I can and enjoying sxs's that way.

    • @JesseLJohnson
      @JesseLJohnson Před 6 lety

      Tons of used ATVs and SxS for sale for around half the new price if you look around. I already have a Can Am Commander 1000 XT but have considered buying another besides the ATVs I also already own. Maybe a 4 seater and I found locally a used 2016 Kawasaki Teryx 4 the model with EPS and Fox shocks for $8500, that would be like $16k new I would imagine. If you just want a SxS though there are tons of deals. So many RZR for sale around here especially 800 models starting at $5500. It might be 4-5 years old with 1000-2000 miles but it will still give you a thrill and be something to go riding with.

    Nice job. I'm in the market for a side by side but have not driven any yet. I am kind of a yamaha fan because I have owned bikes and quads and liked the reliability. I know they are in different categories but how would you compare the fun factor between this machine and the wolverine x2? I like trails and wide open and am a little surprised by the x2 low max speed. Just curious how "you" felt overall about the two compared?

    • @TFLoffroad
      @TFLoffroad  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Ben. Thanks for watching.
      The Can-Am definitely takes the win in the power department, especially the 1000R. But even the non-R models feel more powerful than the X2 and easier to drive with the throttle i.e. break it loose. The Can-Am also has a much longer wheelbase, allowing to "float" a little nicer down the trail than the X2.
      On the plus side for the Yamaha, the steering is some of the best in the segment in my opinion. Nicely weighted, super direct and great on-center feel. In comparison, the Can-Am steering feels light and overboosted. X2 feels compact and nimble as well, where the Can-Am feels just a little big thanks to its length. And the Yamaha gives you a functional dump bed.
      If you're looking for straight up high-speed thrills, the Can-Am will deliver more of that. It's more raucous and has a little more hooligan spirit baked in. The X2 comes off feeling more subdued overall, though for tight twisty trails where you can't really use the power anyways, the Yamaha feel tight and nimble.
      It's a tough call! I can't pick a machine outright, but hopefully this helps.

    • @Bubble555brain
      @Bubble555brain Před 5 lety

      Thanks. I guess my biggest dilemma is the the low top speed of the wolverine vs the long wheelbase of the maverick in tight trails. If I win the lotto I'll buy both. Cheers.

      Put a bumper on. CanAm Trail is longer than the other Trail units. With no aftermarket bumpers it barley fits in a 10' Toy Hauler garage. I have over 2000 miles no problems with the back end and I drive it like I stole it.

      I noticed after two years of moderate driving a well taken care of example is nearly 60% of MSRP (or less). I've seen 2016 Mavericks for well under $11k and only averaging around 500 miles. Of course this is the non-turbo model.

    • @JesseLJohnson
      @JesseLJohnson Před 6 lety +2

      You can get a hell of a deal on a couple year old model. There are tons of SxS and ATVs listed for sale here, and many seem to sit for sale for a while. Many I have noticed prices dropping too. I already have a Commander XT 1000 but have considered buying another and I have kinda thought a 4 seater might be nice to have as well. Well I found a 2016 Teryx4 the higher end model with eps and Fox shocks think they call it the LE model and it has 400 miles and they only want $8500 for it. There is a 2015 800 Commander XT for $7500, well 2 of them at that price but one is a 1000 both are yellow though and the 1000 has Pro Armor doors, bead lock rims, full windshield, some other aftermarket accessories. There is a few WIldcats pretty cheap too. One is a Walker Evans edition that is white and orange for $7500 its a 2013 I think though but it looks brand new with well under 1k miles and of course Walker Evans shocks. There is a Yamaha XYZ for $11,500 too that has all kinds of aftermarket stuff on it too. Bunch of 800 RZR starting at $5500. Quite a few Mavericks too. I called on one but it was just sold. It was only an 2014 but it was the X-RS DPS model and it had I think a Trinity exhaust, Pro Armor doors and other aftermarket parts with like 2k miles and they only wanted $8k for it. I haven't yet seen a used X3 though or a RZR turbo used for sale, probably will soon enough though. There was an Artic Cat ATV I wish I bought last Dec. I can't think of the model but its the stripped down 700 cc model that is only like $5999 new that had 10 miles on it 2017. Somebody bought it to haul their race car around the pits at the race track couple miles from my parents house. They had it listed for $4500 then a couple weeks later for $4k. For that cheap would have been nice to have a utility quad besides the King Quad I already have. Would love a Scrambler or Renegade too and lots of them for sale. I have found a couple 850 Scramblers for $7000 or so which probably isn't that great for machines that are 3-4 years old, seen some better deals on Renegades though.

    • @27Zangle
      @27Zangle Před 6 lety

      The Yamaha YXZ and the Wolverine appear to drop value quickly. Not sure why. I have seen a couple YXZ for less than $11k with low miles and lots of aftermarket goodies. I was looking at a Wolverine for less than $8k used with only 250 miles, windshield, new tires, winch, and a warranty till this December.

    • @27Zangle
      @27Zangle Před 6 lety

      All the time actually. A co-worker has a 800 and he said it can't go riding without something breaking on it. We're not talking about aggressive riding. A local Honda dealer sells Can-Am as well. They always say "You want power and speed go Can-Am, but you want reliability then go Honda or Yamaha." HE did state Can- Am pays the bills with the repair shop. Personally, I would go Can-Am because they ride nicer, have more power, speed, and the engines are top notch. I figure once you work through the issues it will be a great unit for many years.
