Regarding the “you trans people come in waves” comment -
The way he formatted that statement was pretty rude, but, as weird as it sounds, stuff really does come “in waves” in the ER. What I mean by that is a mass amount of people will come in to the emergency room with the same symptoms, conditions, etc. I know this because I have a family member who works in the ER; she used to come home saying “it was a heart attack night” or “it was an overdose night”. Weird, I know. Also if you really pay attention in any doctors office, you’ll notice the same thing.
Oh absolutely. I worked as an ER nurse for three years (in Germany though) and there really were days when there were three or four very similar cases at once, even though stuff like that didn't happen in months.
But still, you keep that information to the staff. And if I were in a room with a doctor who said shit like "trans people come in ways" I would've defintiely spoken up, you just don't say that in front of patients.
Yeah, it may sound weird but it really happens that way 🤷

This makes me realize even more how much your mom has done for you I admire her dedication :)
TYSM. Yes it was a very rough 48 hrs! Sam was in pain, we both hadn't slept in over hours, he couldn't eat anything because we weren't sure when surgery was going to be. Went to 2 hospitals in one day, sat in waiting rooms for hours just for all different medical professionals to come & "look" when they knew exactly what it was. the mistake was caused by Sam's original surgeon (well not her, but her assistant) for not contacting the surgeon while she was on vacation because she didn't "want to disturb her". If the surgeon had known what was going on, one of the hospitals would've helped Sam. I wish now that I had pushed her to tell the surgeon but I didn't even know that til after the 2 hospital visits, I assumed she told her..UGGH! Anyways, Sam made out pretty good after the whole nitemare. The backup surgeon even though he was kind of a jerk, did a great job, thankfully!!!

it's not really liability because it's another surgeons work they don't know what happened and don't know Sams medical history or how the surgeon approached the surgery... They could screw it up without this information.
What...the...fuck. How the hospitals treated you is totally unacceptable. I don't now how things are where you live but in Germany, if your doctor is unavailable, the clinic has to appoint a proxy. The other hospital you went to should have helped you since you were in pain! How can they watch you sit there with a fucking golfball on your chest and in pain and just say "sorry, we can't do anything for you". They are doctors, it's their duty to provide help in case of an emergency isn't it?

AliaslsailA shoot here in the usa esp if u don't have insurance which tons of us don't bc we r under paid and in shitty places in out lives ontop of broke anyway u 4real have 2 be dieing b4 they see u I have heart problems and can't even get my blood pressure meds or a heart specialist bc I have no insurance they said if I have a heart attack they will do something then so to do something like start t or have any surgery I would need for my brain to be better u can forget it I even had a blood clot in my foot they sent me home and said it's fine I even begged the emergency room to atleast do an ultrasound or something to find it and help me still 2 this day no help from anywhere and still have clot in my foot it's went down but scared to death it will pass and kill me it's really screwed up here unless u come from money and most of us don't I would love to start t and esp get top surgery done but honest to god I'd give all that up just to be healthy again and be able to live half way normal without my chest hurting legs swelling and all kinds of problems that come from my heart being messed up an that's not all my health probs lol anyway sry so long just really wish our government would step up and help it's people like others do of course we have better things than some like Africa and Syria and stuff but this is supposed 2 be the United States of America and so many people who don't live here think it's so great we actually treat our legal immigrants better than our born citizens I don't blame the immigrants at all by any means I blame our system here its just very fucked up it really it we spend billions to help other countries but won't spend anything to help those in need or starving and dieing bc no medical help here in the usa again sorry for the rant lol just really gets me seeing him treated like he was and knowing what I've been thru as well things need 2 change for the safety of our people it's humanity just basic kindness and humanity 2 help those who need it
Doctors in America are awful and I've never had a good experience with one. They don't care if you're dying, all they care about is money. If you're poor, you're fucked and they let you die.
That's really screwed up the assistant or nurse or whoever she was is supposed to know what to do if something happens while the surgeon is out of town. Like literally that is ONE OF THEIR MAIN JOBS!! It goes along with protecting the patient the second I heard she didn't want to call the surgeon I was like okay where is the on-call surgeon because these kinds of things happen. That is the most basic thing a nurse needs to know. I can't believe she acted like that like it's ur life and you just went through a serious surgery.
right??? I'm more than sure that the surgeon would've wanted to know about a ruptured blood vessel, that shit can be lethal depending on the soze of the vessel. In Sam's case it luckily wasn't a big one from what it seems but holy shit, having to visit multiple hospitals and being sent away is NOT what should happen in those cases. That surgeon should've been contacted so she could give another surgeon the details on Sam's surgery so he could've been helped earlier.

My mother is the operating room manager here in Houston and she said it shouldn't matter what surgeon worked on you if it is an emergency case as yours obviously was the hospital you're at they should of called an emergency case and started to prep another operating room and started the procedure as soon as possible that's complete bs how they made you go to 4 different hospitals
I agree. we went to 2 local hospitals and they would not help Sam, knowing it was a hematoma..Crazy, we had to drive 2 hours after him bleeding out and the chest cavity filling up with blood/fluid. It was a nightmare. I wish that on no one.

It was a nitemare. I'm glad my sister (Sam's aunt) was with us because without her, I would've hurt someone I think! being turned away from 2 local hospitals after sitting around for hours, and Sam in pain. It was horrible.

I don’t know if you’re still looking or not, but I know of a few on the west coast of the US.
There’s OHSU in Portland, Oregon with Dr. Berli. My friend had his chest done there and he was so pleased.
Also in Portland, Oregon is Legacy Good Samaritan, with Dr. Thakar. She did my chest about 3 weeks ago, and so far I’m so satisfied. Every thing went very smoothly and the staff their is very well trained and nice.
Down in California, in San Francisco is Dr. Satterwhite with Brownstein and Crane, although they are a bit limited on what insurance they take.

You had a hematoma right? I don't understand why a doctor couldn't have done an ultrasound/x-ray whatever and seen that it's a build up of fluid and at least drained it. Those aren't exclusive to surgery. If someone falls or injures themselves bad enough it can happen. Sucks you had that experience.

If it would've been an infection he could've gone into sepsis and possibly died - how can doctors NOT treat someone just because they have a different surgent? Never would've happened in my country - after getting up to a certain pay level, all care is free here.

Honestly it really is best to wait for the misgendering and dysphoria to slowly worsen until you're willing to go to these measures to make it go away. Number 1 way to avoid transition regret. That's how I'll be doing it as well, I'm getting top surgery as soon as I have insurance again because it's at that point for me.

as a health care worker that first hospital should have called the surgeon on call ! they could have taken care of this for you unless u didn't have insurance of course that plays a huge role these days
the original surgeon's medical assistant would not contact her and did not give us the name of the "on call" surgeon until 24hrs and 2 hospitals later! it was ridiculous and not necessary for what we had to go through. If she had contacted the original surgeon and then that surgeon told a Boston hospital to expect us, that would've saved alot of time and grief that Sam went through!

I'm so sorry for the way the hospitals treated you. I have a lot of health issues and have been in similar (but not so scary) situations where I've been passed from doctor to doctor. I'm glad everything cleared up for you and you were able to heal properly

@@mephistopheles6769 Of course! I wear a size bigger in tees. I make sure my tees has a graphic or pattern. That really helps hide the shapes. I also wear button down shirts and layer with them. Layers helps hide it pretty well. I hunch over a lot (btw this isn't good for your posture long-term). And I try to build my chest muscles and lose some weight, so I can get an idea of how my chest will look post-op. I passed consistently, so that's the most important thing of all. Everything else is hidden behind clothes. I have a full time job and hobbies on the side so that helps distract me. Having good supportive people around you helps a lot too. Be optistimistic and find happiness in the little things in life. That's my two cents. I hope that helps. :) I know every person cope with dysphoria differently.
Honestly, top surgery is my second biggest goal right after being mentally stable. And I'm glad you made a video about this so that if it happens to anyone else, they have a way to know what happened.
