Hey Chaps! Do you use a 2nd screen with your laptop??
no
Surely!
no
Sadly I don't, I hope I can get one oneday though!
Running 3 monitors with my 16" M1 Max. LG 27GP950
I don't usually leave a comment on videos like these. I just place a like and leave... But I loved and found amazing how you display all the information and differences between different standards, type of screens, etc. You go straight to the point, and the viewer can stop the video to see those details, and understand in more depth the advantages and disadvantages of every element! Super cool!
The fact that a Creator is putting a focus on Creator based contents amongst all the bells and whistles of Gaming Monitors, puts a smile in my face
Glad you like it!
the pro res display placed at the table's edge is giving me anxiety
😂😂😂😂😂😂
its perfectly balanced
as all things should be
Lol
So many options compared, important factors to consider explained, how to meet the varying needs of different usages addressed - amazing presentation. Thank you!
This month I bought my first monitor to pair my 2018 MacBook Pro which I use for gaming and coding. It's the Samsung Odyssey G5 32" 1440p 144Hz and it cost me 280€ when the usual price is 430€ so I think it was an excellent choice in terms of quality and value
Hey Tom, it has been about a year since you published a review about the LG 38WN95C . I’m very pleased to learn this is still your favourite display monitor overall 10:45 , particularly because I ordered one of those giants thanks to your review. It just arrived yesterday and about to unbox it. I was a kid last time I was this excited around Xmas time :) . Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and super compelling content. All the best for 2022 ✊🏼 🙏🏼
I have an LG38WN95. Beast of a monitor for my PC. However when plugged in to my 14 MBP M1, everything just went downhill!
@@rkvisuals Hi! I was considering buying a LG 38WN95C for my new MacBook Pro 14" 2021 (Apple M1 Max). Is that what you have too? What is the problem, and what is not working as expected? Kind regards/Emil
@@rkvisuals Could you please be kind enough to elaborate further about your experience ?
Apparently Apple reserves Retina or HiDPI display scaling options for monitors with at least 4K resolution. I didn’t realise how bad the scaling was until I compared it to my pc and realised how beautiful the fonts were. Some have suggested using a workaround such as third party apps (e.g. better dummy) which I’ve tried but no success. Also seen suggestions to use a thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable but haven’t got round to buying one yet so not sure if this method works.
@@rkvisuals Thanks for taking the time to respond, mate. Very appreciated ✊🏼
Been looking for this exact video. Thanks Tom!
This was really helpful, thank you!
Love to see a review of the pairing of the new LG 42" C2 OLED TV with an M1 Mac. Including good TB3/TB4 to HDMI 2.1 cable choices in order to get the higher refresh.
What a content, what a quality. Everything was amazed in this video! Really I can feel that effor and hard work you putting in every video. Keep up a good job! All best in 2022❤️🙏👑
Thank you for doing this. I really appreciate you doing this after I requested it awhile back. I love your style and work.
`is this for real or spam? The number quoted does not work
Eventho i still dont have a laptop yet.. its always nice to watch ur reviews and detailed recommendation bcoz i do really learn so many things..
Thank you for this video! It really helped me to choose between VA and IPS models. I decided to find the IPS one for better quality of image.
fantastic video bro. Exactly what I needed.
thank you SO much for this video
Thanks to be crystal clear and informative ℹ️! 🎄
I'm currently using 3 x 24" screens but really want to swap them out for a 49" and possibly use one of the 24's above. I really enjoy and use all screen real estate when working and having the extra when chilling/surfing is a bonus too. The Dell 49" ticks most box's for me but they have been out of stock for ages :(
Excellent! Honestly the best tech video with lots of useful informations! Thanks!
Thank you! Great easy to understand info.
Certainly got the colour tones near perfect on your videos. Be safe & Merry Christmas Tom.
Exactly what I was looking for as a recent convert from a PC to MacBook Pro.
Great video! Would also love a video on the best MacBook docks
Great content and perfect for my customers to explain. Thanks
Cheers mate, very good video, helped me a lot. So thx again
I compared a lot of these, but ultimately went for a LG 34WK95-U. Ultra-wide (21:9), 35 inches, 5120 x 2160, 450 nits peak brightness, 98% AdobeRGB, 5 ms reaction time, 8.8 kg. This is the sweet spot for me for video editing and photo editing. And the price is reasonable too.
That's a great monitor, however, it is now discontinued. So sad.
Huh, looks currently available to me! Fantastic looking monitor!
@obsoquasi, what connection medium did you use, and what resolution & refresh rate are you getting?
@@williamrgrant USB-C. The cable also charges my laptop at the same time, so I can keep my laptop charger in my bag. Resolution: 5120 x 2160. Refresh 60 Hz. I'm not using the built-in speakers though, they sound really bad!
This was so useful!
Excellent & thoroughly enjoyed
Great breakdown! I’m still loving the LG38WN95-C since buying it last year after your review. It’s actually appreciated in value as well due to scarcity! No other monitor comes close for use with a MB pro.
Such a good monitor right?? Anything you’d want improved for the next version? Mini LED would be great
@@Thetechchap waiting for the 40inch version to come out since announced at '21 CES
@@Thetechchap I'm just wondering whether it works well with the MBP 14 with the scaling issues? I've heard mixed reviews about the text clarity on the LG ultrawides and I was hoping to get your opinion as you've been using it for a while!
Helped me a lot thank you 💕
THE best video on monitors, this is the benchmark for video presenting, brilliant, and certainly helped me make a decision, thanks.
Thanks for the monitor port capability chart!
Superb review/advice/recommendation/etc.
I know it has been around awhile, and I hope they refresh it soon, but the I still love the LG 5K Ultrafine! It has the best resolution and scaling, great color accuracy, and good features. It is not a high refresh and has large bezels, but the screen is fantastic. For working on photos, productivity, and the occasional video editing, I think it is hard to beat. I have tried some of the monitors on your list, and I went back to the Ultrafine 5K.
That's what I use as well. However, I have been having issues waking from sleep with my M1 Air with Monterey.
And its expensive and has screen burn in great
@@leocompany I have had zero screen burn in and I got my last one, which was the 2nd gen model, for $650 all in in great condition. So, the new one is not cheap, but used it is a steal. It is still one of the best monitors on the market for Mac. I have seen people report ghosting, which is super disappointing, but not true burn-in where it hampers your work while turned on. I may have been lucky, but I also use screen saver and power save with conservative settings.
@@db-cp7xb do you have any issues with the thunderbolt port? Found one near me for $500 used but worries that it may have thunderbolt port issues in the future. Would hate to spend that much for a display for it not to work.
Great video thank you Tech Chap. What did you shoot this video on? It looks great. Curious.
This video is super cool, do you think you could do a video covering the experience of using a Studio Display as a 2nd monitor of an iMac Retina 5K 27”
- Does the audio work in both screens?
- Which camera will be used?
- How’s the workflow?
Great video, cheers
Good video thanks for the information
Really useful. Thank you.
I use Asus Proart 24AC and I absolutely love it. Very cheap but serves me well in this price point.
Thank you for another great video. I do have a completely off topic question. Where can I get the big stormtrooper that have been in many of your previous videos? Thank you in advance for your answer. Happy new year.
I do like your recommendations thanks
Very good video thanks appreciate it!
I have that Samsung M7 smart monitor for a PC, and it is excellent, and it gives 4K@60 screen. It is just like hooking up a smart TV but without antenna out. It has support for Tizen Apps, has 2 HDMI, USB-C with charging and video transfer (up to 65W) and additional USB ports for whatever you like. It natively supports RDP to your Windows machine if that's what you prefer (to go fully without cables). One thing that I would like to have is "premium" version of this monitor, with a much better brightness (it is about 300 nits I believe, so HDR although supported is not really a HDR) and possibly QLED technology. That would make it perfect. Kind regards.
Great video! Now where to find that sweet MacBook wallpaper...
Can you make a video on the best dual monitor docks for the new m1 pros etc? the best 2 in 1 dock that allows 120hz output via display port or hdmi at minimum 1080p? That would be so useful! No third party apps required like Displaylink either, they support dual natively.
This is great and you're great. Thanks. :)
As always…great video and overview.
I had the Samsung CJ791 with thunderbolt 3 connectivity allowing me to use the monitor as a docking station for all my other accessories. It was nice but ended up having some issue with the quality so I returned it. I feel like after having thunderbolt 3 with my desk built around the monitor I really can’t go back to something like USB C. Issue is the price for other thunderbolt 3 monitors are nearly double in the 1000-1500 range. Which is just too expensive. What do you think is the best thunderbolt 3 ultra wide monitor in the $600-900 range?
Thanks
Andrew
Thank you for the info! Very informative and helpful. Well, I like many were waiting for Apple to bring out the new and improved 27" iMac! Then the Mac Studio showed up. I like the studio and will most likely go with that but I can't see myself spending the money for the Studio display. I think Apple is nuts! It's really just an iMac screen without the computer! Really was hoping to find a great alternate for that display because I was really looking at getting two 27" monitors. I have been looking a lot at the Dell UltraSharp 27 4K USB-C Hub Monitor - U2723QE as well as the U2720Q, bu thought the newer model would be better. Would love to get your thoughts and suggestions on this and any others. Really just worried that I will have issues connecting to the studio with a monitor or monitors other than Apple's, worried screen text will need to be scaled, brightness, matte finish of the screen instead of glossy, etc? I have always just stuck with the iMac but the 24" is not what I want. Thank you!
Hands down, you are one of the best CZcams content creator on Tech
So helpful 😇👏🏼👏🏼🔥, keep going
Thank you very much and what thunderbolt cable did you use please
I recently made a video where I'm still using my Thunderbolt Cinema Display and how it's really hard to get rid of it because it's that good. Thanks man, this helped a lot 👍👍👍 merry Christmas 🎄!
Great video!
What's your thoughts on the Samsung M7 Smart Monitor?
BenQ EX2780Q, been using it for about a month now across my MBP 2019 and PS5. Great QHD panel at 144hz.
thanks once again
Great video and listing of all products Tom.
My question is this: for those of us who are writers/authors and need a Monitor Primarily to speed up and make workflow easier to view current pages/chapters of our work/books and once in awhile to view/edit photos say for a book cover or as examples of illustrations, what would be some quality yet comparably Less expensive options for a monitor to use with the 2020 M1 16GB 13" Macbook Pro ?
* We recently invested in and bought a lot of new Apple Products and just need the Monitor and an all in one printer and appropriate cables to complete our home setup.
?~ Could you use an LG TV such as this one as a Monitor- LG - 27" Class LED Full HD TV Model:27LP600B-PU ?
Thank you!
About time too - something I need for my New career in being a videographer
Great video! Do these monitors come with built-in speakers and how is the sound quality?
Great and useful video
Thanks for the info. I wonder if what your view is on the lenovo P40w-20? This should have been out last year!
Just stumbled on your channel and enjoying your monitor reviews. Any chance you can review the new Dell U3223QE?
My M1 imac has 5 external screens. I bought a x16 hdmi splitter box and they are hooked up to 4K tvs (1 86inch tv and 4 75inch tvs). Works great. The 86 inch 4K tv looks awesome with the imac displayed on it.
Hey I'm the creator of that wallpaper! (Dreams) Nice seeing it in your video :)
Thanks!
Got the LG 27UL850-W for my M1 Pro Macbook. It has USB-C charging with 4K 60 and HDR, so one cable is all I need. Works great especially considering it's less than $400 right now.
What are you doing on the mac/display if I may ask?
Gaming/video editing etc?
And how are you finding the colour accuracy compared to the MacBook side by side?
Also, is it possible to attach an arm instead of the stand?
I see you do video editing, is it possible to use the Mack book as a video output monitor...great video, cheers.
For the last 10+ years I've paired a gaming monitor with a MacBook Pro (and gaming PC).
Mac for creative but rest of workflow monitor. I've done this from games design at uni, through work life to now running a software company.
A used MacBook Pro is great utility and holds value well.
Thanks for watching 🤗🤗

This is too good but way out of my budget ! Thanks for providing the options.
Another fantastic video Tom. I’m surprised no mention of the Samsung Odyssey G9 outside of a small mention of its size. I recently moved to one on Black Friday with my MBP 14 M1Pro and I have fallen in love with it. As someone that spends 90% of my time in a day in the MS Suite having no limitations on how many spreadsheets I can have up at a time; it is a godsend. The 49” size at only $999 with VRR and a TB to DP 1.4 cable to get the proper resolution/refresh has made it an amazing screen such that it’s my primary and I just keep my MBP closed while using the Apple Touchpad 2 and Magic Keyboard on the MacBook Pro 14.
Now we have the Studio Display, which I recommend over all of these. You get 5k, great built in speakers, and good peak brightness for a third of the price of the Pro Display.
Cool video keep it up 👍
I recently bought the Dell UltraSharp U2723QE as an extention to my iMac 2017. I was at first a little bit sceptical because it was cheaper than other models and it feels like plastic. But I have to admit that it is a beast. It covers 100 % sRGB and the image quality is jaw dropping with IPS Black. I love it and I don't regret the investment.
Does it have any light bleed?
@@kifley19 I use it for picture editing most of the time, and did not notice anything.
@@guillandanthony711 whats software of Dell U2723QE?Windows 10 or Windows 11?
@@dharmaandra4720 I on Mac.
Just purchased Dell 27 USB-C Monitor - S2722DC to use with the 2019 MacbookAir. My first monitor which I have been searching for several weeks. Wish me luck.
Hello, thanks for the visa, very informative. I got 2 Apple 27" thunderbolt that I really like but wonder if that will work with my going 16" M1 max MBP.
For Data Analysis, I hoping to be able to hook up like 2 affordable 50-inch 4K TVs and wall-mount them for max screen real estate and a clean desktop. But I haven't seen it in practice yet. Maybe 43" might be better depending on how close I am to the screens
Excellent video. For me, I use two 4k 32" samsung monitors for my desk. At first I was worried about the refresh rate being only 60Hz but I think it is less of a big deal when they are that large because you find yourself scrolling far less than something with more limited real-estate.
How do you connect everything together? Do you use a docking station?
@@heinlenkatie I have one of those dongles that has the two usb c ports to plug in on it and it connects to one side of my MacBook at the end of my desk. It has two hdmi ports (4K 60hz ports), a port for my charger, ports for my keyboard and mouse, and an Ethernet Jack. It also has two extra USB ports (one type a and one type c) for flash drives or anything I may need to connect. It was only like 50 bucks whereas a dock was hundreds and you don’t even notice it at the back of my desk.
Great video! would you be able to review the ASUS ROG Strix XG349C with a MacBook? Was thinking about this monitor as a dual MacBook work monitor \ Windows gaming monitor.
Really interested in how well the "DisplayPort signal over USB-C" works on a MacBook and how high you can get the refresh rate via this method.
Thanks.
Hey Chap! I was wondering if you have had any flickering issues with your setup using the LG 38WNC95 since flickering has become a major problem with many monitors and laptops with M1/M2 chips.
I disagree about 4K monitors. There’s a reason why Apple monitors are either 5K or 6K. It has to do with 110 vs 220 ppi and 4K is a strange fractional upscaling and downscaling which can hurt performance since these scales are done via GPU especially when you’re already doing GPU intensive activities. I recommend 1440p over 4K to keep the math simple so the scaling won’t be too problematic.
I totally agree with you, and I’ve learned it on my expenses
Can you recommend a external monitor for coding?
Yeah would have been nice to mention that ... especially if this video was dedicated to mac users ....
True that. I wanted to repurpose a 4k Samsung from another computer, but we're selling it and putting money towards a 1440p
What most people dont realize: Macbooks are using a scaled resolutions by default. For example my Macbook Air 1440x900 (display as hardware is 2560x1600), and thats no problem GPU wise.
I got a 32 inch LG ergo for my 16 inch MacBook Pro/PS5 and I freaking love it
Great choice
Thank you! I've just ordered a new M1 Pro and I want to pair it with a monitor that's worthy.
Great video, very insightful. What wallpaper are you using on the macbook? It really does the quality display justice.
Got any luck looking for it?
Great video - Dell just announced the new U2723QE, which replaces the U2720Q!
Great video! Although I was missing a recommendation for a 27 inch monitor with a high refresh rate that could take advantage of the new MacBook Pro Pro Motion
Most gaming monitors are high refresh rate nowadays just look for the 'hz' rating and reviews, few have USB-C video but they can work via an adapter to DisplayPort or HDMI. If you're after colour accuracy, most rarely go above 60hz, I've seen some studio grade monitors that offer 75hz but that's about it. If you want definitive recommendations, Hardware Unboxed does some great monitor reviews - they cover most brands and go into a lot of detail, comparing against other monitors in a bunch of different categories.
I really love the design of the ProDisplay XDR! Myself, I am rocking a 24" LG Ultrafine 4K monitor and it is perfectly fine for what I do with it.
Very interesting, could we please revere the question like this how could display/operate my Mac mini on the screen of macbook air or pro?
Thanks for you reviews, I was wondering what you think about this LG-32" 4K UltraFine 32UN880-B and if you think it would be any good for video editing and a bit of colour grading with FCPX or DaVinici resolve cheer, Jim
Last summer I got the LG 27” UP850 which is a 4K IPS monitor with HDR, 400nits and 95% DCI-P3 for a whisker under £400. It has UCB-C data and 96W power delivery plus a ton of other ports so I use it as a USB-C hub as well. Fantastic quality and superb value for money - is there anything that comes close? Only caveat is that it’s a power hungry beast by the time you have everything driven through it (44W up to 185W max).
Dell Monitor 27" 4K USB-C U2723QE
Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing this for my Macbook. Do you still recommend it? how is the scaling? does it actually scale to 4k?
great job
Hey Chap nice review! Does the M2 MacBook Air support 144hz and above?
You look like Mike Ross in suits
Love your content
Keep it up
What about the 28.2 inch Huawei MateView you reviewed earlier in the year? It has quite an Apple aesthetic?
I got myself the HP U28 4k usb c monitor. Good enough to charge the 16” MacBook Pro. I like it and it’s pretty cheap at £329
My ideal monitor would be the 48" OLED. Won't mind the bigger ones either even if I would have to sit way farther. Bigger is ALWAYS better!
Thanks for the video, what do you think about the LG 27UL500-W for editing videos, for a macbook pro M1 MAX? Cheers
With so much variations in screens people view content on, there isn't so much point in getting highly calibrated monitor, unless printing photos etc. But online content purely depends what the end user views it on
the wallpaper for the beginning of the video on your MacBook Pro where did you get it?
nice to see these things but I dont have the money
Keep up the good work
Tech Chap, what do you think of the Samsung M8?
