    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

      At low altitude the F1 has a higher G-limit and an excellent aerodynamic coefficient. At high altitude the F-14 has wing aera and on request it may have either wingspan and better instant turn ( variable geometry ) or swept back wing and higher acceleration or sustained turn. The F1 is a formidable aggressor and it is still used in that role. If the F-5E is in position to score victories against the F-14 the F1 can do it better.

    As crazy as it sounds, the Mirage F1, unlike the Mirage 3 was actually superbly manoeuvrable at speeds between 300 kph IAS and 800 IAS, it had superstrong flaps and slats which made it super stable and gave it a lot of lift. Greeks put their F1's against their F16 and the F1 could give F16 some headaches. Mirage F1 was a very nice aircraft for its time

    • @lucasgomez3283
      @lucasgomez3283 Před 2 lety +3

      Idk about that one ngl, high mounted anhedral swept wings dont seem to inspire crazy maneuverability to me. Very similarly to the harrier actually, and the harrier isnt very renounded for its maneuverability either

    • @chrismoeller4517
      @chrismoeller4517 Před 2 lety +4

      @@lucasgomez3283 So the thing about anhedral wings is that they improve the aircraft’s ability to roll, which is why you see them on planes that otherwise wouldn’t like to roll like the Harrier and the C-17, and a lot of big Russian planes. Definitely a plus for maneuverability in a fighter. On the flip side, dihedral wings are seen on a lot of civil aviation aircraft like the Cessna and Boeing 777, because it makes them less inclined to roll all about the place, one of the reasons why the former is used as a trainer. It also helps soak up some of that turbulence. If you want more than that, check out the online version of FAA-H-8083 chapter 5.

  • @mastercheef8144
    @mastercheef8144 Před 2 lety +58

    The tomcat pilot doesn't learn from his mistakes. 1st round: 1-circle, overshoots, dead. 2nd round: 1-circle, overshoots, dead. 3rd round: 1-circle, overshoots, dead. Here's some common sense: If your plane is far superior in a certain aspect of the dogfight; use that to your advantage. Do not keep trying to force something you've lost to 2 attempts prior to the 3rd. He should've been constantly applying pressure on GS, and forcing him into the 2-circle rate fight. The tomcat will out-rate 90% of the aircraft in DCS, so use that advantage.

    You should do the US vs Russia thing again but with the rule that you can't choose the same jet twice so it's more interesting.
    Do like 5 or 6 rounds so you can have different engagements.

    The F1 is surprisingly nimble for not being a delta wing. I look forward to the F1CM.

    All fights are against pilots and not planes. Anyone in any aircraft can make mistakes or fly poorly. Being better is what wins.

    Hey GS, could you do a mirage F1 vs an F5 and AV8B? Really curious to see these 2 fights

  • @stinkyfungus

    So, I would imagine the correct counter to your "combat flaps and air brake F1 shenanigans" would be to pull into the vertical and try a barrel roll over the top to manage closure without getting slow or overshooting? Similar to how F4 pilots would treat a mig 17 when it would try to lure a phantom into a horizontal turning fight?

      yea thats a very good counter in the tomcat to avoid overshoots, it has a lot of pitch authority. Basically the tomcat play should be, get the mirage slow, and then fight in the vertical. Once you see a tomcat pulling the nose up and rolling above you, you know things are not going well
