    • @GuardedLegacy
      @GuardedLegacy Před 4 lety +1

      People should really stop comparing Red Rising to Ender's Game. Yes it is sci-fi, and the first book has teens in a "school" on Mars, but it is not Ender's Game. Was Ender's Game an influence? Absolutely! Halfway through Red Rising, Darrow drops a nod to Ender saying of The Jackal "So this kid is what? A predestined Alexander? A Caesar? A Genghis? A Wiggin?"
      But they're not training to fight a war against aliens to save humanity from extermination. In Red Rising they're training the 1% of the 1% of the Golds to become the future leaders of their caste society by forcing them to relive the collapse of social structure and build their own micro society through war and famine.
      So maybe think Ender's Game meets medieval Hunger Games in ancient Greece. Only in Pierce Brown's system, there is no improving one's station in the Society. Their color was essentially built into their DNA with the rise of The Society.

    you read the same stuff I do. I loved Red Rising Trilogy. Also, Hyperion is nothing like Dune, that is not a relevant analogy. The Hyperion Cantos have a tone that is somewhat similar, with a far tech future. However, plot structure is more varied, no main character with a large cast, completely different tech, different moral and religious focus. In fact, I can't think of anything like Hyperion in sci fi, and I've read all the shit you have. It is closer to Peter F. Hamilton than Frank Herbert, for god's sake.
