The Broken Earth trilogy is one of those trilogies that I find it hard to recommend to people because if I do recommend it and they don't read it, I'm secretly going to hold it against them. It's so good.

Yes yes YES on the Broken Earth trilogy! My friend loaned me his copies, and ever since, I had been in love with the godly brilliance of Jemisin's writing! I loaned my copy of City We Became to my aunt to get her on the NKJ train, and I'm going to order The Dreamblood Duology to read once I have finished the other books on my TBR.
First off, Great video as usual. Definitely added some stuff to my ever-growing TBR pile. Secondly, I highly *highly* recommend the Divine Cities Trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett. It's got great memorable characters, very original worldbuilding and one of the most satisfying conclusions ever. Lastly, The Raven's mark trilogy is indeed criminally underrated. It's a perfect blend of epic fantasy and cosmic horror and more people need to experience this.
If there was even the slightest possibility of me reading another Cassandra Clair book, it was squashed the moment you said ‘true love triangle’ and ‘so painful’.
Agree on Broken Earth and First Law. The Bear and the Nightingale was perfect. I quit The Girl in the Tower because it had different energy; it felt like a step-down, and I didn’t like that romance. I also like Mistborn and have issues with the ending. However, my biggest problem concerning Mistborn is dry, unrelatable and underwhelming religious incorporation. Also, the big Kelsior moment and his backup plan in the first book left me meh. Despite all that, I enjoyed all three books, and I would probably move it above Winternight. The first Red Rising book was too edgy for my taste; I don’t know if I will continue with the series.
The Infernal Devices is a series I didn’t think I’d like nearly as much as I did, but man that got me back into reading. And as some who’s fav book is Hero of Ages in the trilogy, I totally get every issue it has, but since I just adored Sazeds character arc. I’m saving Winters Night for winter but I’m excited
I swear a read a different Red Rising than everyone else in the world. I forced myself thru RR because everyone said it's the weakest but then the series is amazing. I DNFd Golden Son after 150 pages bc it was TERRIBLE. Idk what book I got, but it wasnt the one people can't stop gushing over 😅
First Law, red rising and broke earth are not a surprise. Two of those I definitely have to read still. I was wondering where I was born would be or if it would even be here.
The Gillings in Raven's Mark are the stuff of nightmares, the creepiest fantasy creature I've read about. Great trilogy, hope there's gonna be more stuff from Ed McDonald

I HATED the ending of the Mistborn trilogy with a passion, exactly because of what you said. Also felt the same way with the Winners Curse trilogy! So good!

Hah, funnily enough we have some crossovers (Farseer, Winternight, Mistborn era 1) but for different reasons? Except for Farseer I actually loved the ending of the Winternight trilogy and Misrborn era 2 (and the second book in the latter was my least favorite book). I hope you continue with the Realm of the Elderlings soon! I haven't read the Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemesin and can't seem to find the time to put them on my TBR but I really need to! I thinkI'll love it.
I guess my only real surprise is that there's no First Law here. I mean, considering your love for Abercrombie (which I share). I'm predicting that Age of Madness will make my list of top trilogies once we finally get book three, and will surpass First Law for me. He'd really have to muff the final one to ruin the series (even more than Sanderson did to Mistborn--agree with you there, too). Also, from among Hobb's trilogies, Farseer is not at the very top for me. It's wonderful, and needs to be read, but she only gets better, IMO. It`s early in the morning and I can`t think of amy trilogies I`ve finished :D I borrowed Red Rising triogy from my sister and hope to read it this year. and First Law was translated to Latvian and I have bought the three books and hop to get to them too. hopefully soon. Oh... And I rememberd I`ve read the first trilogy in the shadowhunters, don`t know what the title for that is, but City of Bones etc ones. OMG! How could I forget that i read Shadow and Bone trilogy :D
I liked the Raven's Mark trilogy well enough but it felt very slight. The first book was pretty simple with loose world building and no real character development, but it had a mystery plot to carry it. The 2nd started expanding the world and characters in ways I really enjoyed. The 3rd seemed too busy wrapping up the plot and once again dropped any character dimensions/dynamics. It never felt like a real place with real people. I guess I wanted more meat, but it's primarily a plot-heavy action-adventure story.
@@LienesLibrary Oh I liked Galharrow. He felt like a Noir detective put into a fantasy world. The trilogy just had a singular focus on him. I wanted more from his protégé especially.
Only read First Law and Mistborn. I would probably put both somewhere on a top ten. Red Rising is up maybe later this year . Favourite trilogy for me must be Lord of the Rings. The individual books are not that great on their own, but the sum of it all at the end is better than anything else I have read. (I also read it at the right time around 13-14 and that is an important factor for its overall ranking).
