"That is the sound of dying alone. No one to weep. No one to care" "Arcos will care" "What did you say" "Lorn au Arcos will care if his last student dies" The buildup to the fight was so good
Golden Son is incredible. Victra & Ragnar are top tier characters. I once again thankyou for recommending this series on your channel as Ive just finished Dark Age and cannot wait for Light Bringer.
Hell yeah! Golden Son is a masterpiece. By about chapter 11 onwards couldn’t put the damn book down. This Saga is now my favorite series I’ve ever read, chomping at the bit for Light Bringer.
The jump in quality from Red Rising to Golden Son is just astounding to me. And Red Rising is a fine book, but Golden Son is just fantastic. I'm so glad I started reading this series this year. And I immediately jumped into Morning Star after finishing Golden Son and loved that book even more. Looking forward to your review and reread on that one!
I just discovered this series a little over a month ago. I’m actually listening to the audiobooks and I love them. The narrator is perfect. I just finished the first trilogy, and like a lot of people here, it’s become one of my favorite sci-fi series ever.
I wrote this series off for years, mostly because I didn’t know much about it. I got book 1 for Christmas, and then proceeded to read all 5 books in a month. Without a doubt the fastest I’ve ever read a series. It’s now skyrocketed to one of my favorite series ever. Book 2 and 5 are masterpieces to me. What I love about this series though is that all the entries feel different from one another in many ways.
On Morning Star 3 months after Golden Son and it’s amazing. Thanks so much Mike, you are the saviour of my reading life, it would be incomplete without this saga! :)
Just finished Golden Son and that was a wild quick ride. Absolutely loved it. I'm a little late but thank you, Mike, for recommending this series. Book II is absolutely fantastic. Greetings from Brazil
I enjoyed this book very much. Maybe not quite as much as book one, and listening to you, I think I know why: I am a fantasy reader and not a SciFi reader. The great characters and plot explosions are keeping me going. The wars and weapons, not so much. Looking forward to Tuesday!
I have read Red Rising previously, and am on my “re-Red” right now. But when you said “and he calls for an Iron Rain”, I got so pumped to start Golden Son. Thank you!
I always love the intros. They make me want to read the book all over again. That reunion with you know who had me peeing from my eyes. Can’t wait for the spoiler talk.
I'm repeating what so many other comments are saying here, I could not put this book down, read the whole thing in two days and I'm not kidding when I saw my jaw was dropping pretty much every other chapter. There are so many moments that had me on the edge of my seat, laughing to myself in public, on the verge of tears, inspired beyond expectation... The characters were all so compelling, Sevro is best boy, Victra is a badass, Mustang and Darrow are the ship of the century. by the end of the book I feel so surprised with how I felt about Augustus, and the twist ending had my physically screaming! Fantastic entry, unforgettable and top tier work by Pierce Brown.
I read this on release day, and remember being blown away at the depth here when compared to the original book (which I also loved). I never picked up Morning Star. Think it's time to change that. But I remember almost nothing plot-wise... I think I'll reread to catch up and jump on the discord read-along.
Just coming of the hype of finishing the book. And 100% agree about how amazing the book is. I also feared the love triangle, but then again nothing happened like you said. Which is the only thing that sometimes annoyed me in the romance, it being touched upon without any progress...often. About the reunion you're mentioning, I think it is very logical. It is the first moment he is spatially and statuswise able to have the reunion.
What an amazing book! Just got done reading Morning Son but I still can’t get over how brutal that ending was at the end of Golden Son. It really gave me a lot of vibes from Martin’s A Storm of Swords. I’m sure anyone reading this knows what I am referring to (without spoiling it). Very well done! 👏
Just got done reading the first book, it went fast.. yeah at times It had some first book syndrome, but once things got moving with the story it just clicked. I felt the romance prospect with Mustang really saved it; at-least for me. I'm already starting this one!
Golden Son might be my favorite book, I remember so much more from it than Morning Star (which I also loved when I read.) The big reveal at the start, the duel, the escape, the interrogation, Lorn, Roque, the Iron Rain and the freaking ending. It has like 4 out of my top 10 moments in sci-fi.
I’m reading through Red Rising right now, and I loved the first book, and I really enjoyed the second book, but not quite as much as the first book. I can’t wait to read Morning Star, I’m sure it’s going to be just as good. Thanks for introducing me to the series Mike!
Morning star is awesome. Be warned though, Iron gold is the worst book in the series, by far. But it immideatly jumps ten steps up in quality again with Dark age
Being this early was a delightful surprise, can not wait for light bringer. First read the series about 2 months before Dark Age came out, the wait for DA was grueling and so is the wait for Light Bringer but I have full faith he won't disappoint!
With you all the way. Red Rising 4 stars. A lot of set up. Just finished Golden Son. 5 stars. Agree with all your comments. Onwards to Morning Star next week..
I love this book and the series as a whole. If ranking them I would have to do 2 rankings. If I were to rank pure enjoyment this would be number 1 with it going GS>MS>DA>IG>RR. If I am looking at writing skill and objective quality I would simply go reverse pub order of DA>IG>MS>GS>RR. The mental movie that was in my head while reading the Iron Rain was so epic. It's the most cinematically cool scene in the series to me. Love Ragnar and, yes, Aja is a bad ass(Lorn says it best "never fight a river, never fight Aja.") A great book by itself and a perfect middle book to a trilogy. Can't wait for the spoiler chat to delve a little deeper into it.
I'm glad you liked it, but this is the one where I DNFed the series. I loved the first one, but the second one bugged me for some reason. I think at least part of it comes down to the pacing, which was just breakneck. There were only a few times where I felt characters got to have any real connection and I had a hard time connecting because of that.
Yeah I liked the first book honestly. Then the 2nd was a change in gears as now we are doing space stuff, and honestly the end of the 2nd one made me almost stop reading, and then the whole 3rd book just... was not for me. But especially that ending. Really ticked me off.
This is one of the best books I've ever read. I'm pretty sure I'd put it in my top 5 - if not, then it's at least in my top 10 for sure. Bloodydamn awesome stuff.
Mike it's me that one guy who said he started Red Rising simply because you said to. Now I'm stuck waiting for Light Bringer. The ending of Red Rising and all of Golden Son had me like "WAIT THIS IS GOOD." This series continues to blow my expectations out of the water with the sudden acts of terrible violence. Like the consequences for Tactus, Aja existing, and that triumph
I came here to get a recap on Golden Son before reading morning star and now I feel like I probably need to reread it🙃or find a spoiler video of it. I wish I had morning star on hand when I finished golden son.
My only problem with theae books is stuff tends to get very repetitive to the point where it's close to losing meaning. There is a lot of stuff likewise know I cannot do this, I cannot be that person so I must be this person, but I AM this person, so I must be that person, but I know that's not what I must be" and so on. It's like, do we need him to have this internal struggle in every single scene or can he just make a decision and go with it for half a book before we come back to him being wishy washy about everything?
This book was epic. Such a fun ride and I thought Morning Star was every bit as good maybe even a little more depth than Golden Sun. Books 2-3 I finished within days they were so fun
Ughh i hate that im guy for this series but 😂 i hated it. Maybe i need time, but it just felt so masochistic, you know Darrows not gunna die so to me its just like were gunna make him loose everything and torture him to make him even more epic and badass later.
I know I'm in a tiny, tiny minority, but I really disliked this one! Twist after twist after twist... It all becomes mindless, imo. And I absolutely hate having a first person narrator who constantly withholds information about how he's going to get out of the next impossible situation. I've never had a book miss so hard for me when the consensus is near universal acclaim. Bummer.
Forced myself to reach to this book cause I trust your judgement. Realized I just can't get past the writing style. Too much angst for it to be considered a great piece of fiction. The angst will always scream YA to me and it's a huge pet peeve of mine. Still it is a good story I can definitely give it that.
I liked Red Rising way more...Golden son was a rip off of an Ender game for me and action wasnt that great neither. Liked the scene where Darrow pummeled through space though. Looking forward Sun Eater though.
The ending of Golden Sun is epic. I always tell people to have Morningstar within hands grasps when finishing Golden Sun.
Without a doubt.
I had the audiobook downloaded.
But I ended up switching from Golden Sun to Morning Star mid-pee it was so good.
the Darrow v. Cassius dual is probably my favorite moment (and there are many) of the original trilogy
"That is the sound of dying alone. No one to weep. No one to care"
"Arcos will care"
"What did you say"
"Lorn au Arcos will care if his last student dies"
The buildup to the fight was so good

Love the opening! So epic 🤩. I really need to read Golden Son again!
This is a solid plan.
I read the last 200 pages in 1 sitting and immediately started book 3.
I wrote this series off for years, mostly because I didn’t know much about it.
I got book 1 for Christmas, and then proceeded to read all 5 books in a month. Without a doubt the fastest I’ve ever read a series.

Just jumped on the wagon and digested Red Rising and Golden Son in a week and a half. So good!!
I enjoyed this book very much. Maybe not quite as much as book one, and listening to you, I think I know why: I am a fantasy reader and not a SciFi reader. The great characters and plot explosions are keeping me going. The wars and weapons, not so much. Looking forward to Tuesday!
Love the energy in that amazing intro! Golden Son is a masterpiece in action fantasy/sci fi, one of my all time favourite books ❤
Thanks! The book is epic and deserves an intro just as epic.
That intro is the absolute best- it was incredible! I was shocked at how good this book was. I'm glad I don't have to wait to read book 3.
Loved how Golden Son picks up right where the previous book left off. I read it quickly.
📚📖😃👌📚
I have read Red Rising previously, and am on my “re-Red” right now. But when you said “and he calls for an Iron Rain”, I got so pumped to start Golden Son. Thank you!

Just finished it! WOW that ending was incredible! Had my blood pumping for the last 50 pages straight!
BEST INTRO EVER!!!! You outdid yourself Mike.
The golden armor with the nipples on it is hilarious. It's like the costumes from Batman and Robin with George Clooney.
I'm always a sucker for your opening reads, but this is your best that I've seen! Goosebumps through the entire thing!
I'm repeating what so many other comments are saying here, I could not put this book down, read the whole thing in two days and I'm not kidding when I saw my jaw was dropping pretty much every other chapter. It's so damn good!
Incredibly excited for the review and video! I just finished Golden Son today and am so excited for the continuation of this series going forward!
Hands down my favorite series and just pre-ordered book 6. I'll be rereading the series before I get it!
I read this on release day, and remember being blown away at the depth here when compared to the original book (which I also loved). I never picked up Morning Star. Think it's time to change that. But I remember almost nothing plot-wise... I think I'll reread to catch up and jump on the discord read-along.
Yes. Do that.
How are you guy commenting from the past? It’s says it was uploaded 10 minutes ago
@@moonbot7613 Mike releases vids early to patrons sometimes.
@@spunx44 ahhhh! Makes sense
I've been staring at my unread copies above my desk for too long.
When I picture an Iron Rain is a bunch of the armor suits from Fallout 4 with even more weapons.
The music you have at the start is perfect for the series! Golden sun is epic
Intro fitting for the scale of this book! Great job. Quotes and art worked great together.
Just coming of the hype of finishing the book. And 100% agree about how amazing the book is. I also feared the love triangle, but then again nothing happened like you said. Which is the only thing that sometimes annoyed me in the romance, it being touched upon without any progress...often.

My first glimpse of fanart from this series, and I love it!

I just finished this last night. Perfect timing 😁
The picture of Ragnar in the intro was sooooooooo sick!!!
Victra is simply the best.

Definitely agree on this! I think I read it in just two days. Dark Age is currently my favorite but Golden Son is a close 2nd.
Love Golden Son. 💛 It’s my fave but only because Morning Star is an emotional rollercoaster. Am already girding myself for starting it on 1st March!
Love this one even more on a reread!

Also be the best book of the trilogy and a bloody masterpiece
Be Golden Son
Totally agree. One of the best endings in sci-fi/fantasy

I have spoiler discussions for all Red Rising books. Check the playlist!
Just finished this and HOLY SHIT WOOOOOW. I gotta get Morning Star ASAP dammit
A gorydamn great book, my goodman!
This book sounds amazing, I'm going to read the first one just so I can get to this. Although I will probably get enjoyment out of the first one too.
Golden Son subverts all expectations. So much character growth happens in the sequel. I loved it!
The best sequel I've ever read. The t2 to the first books T1

I have started reading the series today the first book red rising
Adrius is Sci Fi Jorg Ancrath
Great video.
Interesting title from someone who read Ender's Game and there the 2nd book is Speaker for the Dead. So let's watch this.
Speaker for the dead is better in terms of writing and philosophy, Golden Son superior when it comes to pure epic enjoyment.
I have this series in my tbr, what is the general consensus on the rest of the series?
Great read. Wasn't wild about the ending, so I hope Darrow turns things around in Morning Star.
Ughh i hate that im guy for this series but 😂 i hated it. Maybe i need time, but it just felt so masochistic, you know Darrows not gunna die so to me its just like were gunna make him loose everything and torture him to make him even more epic and badass later.
