I’m thankful you included the ferry process. Initially we were looking at flying into BA and then taking the ferry across. Found direct flights that were super expensive but it sounds like it’s worth it
Got to love those Argentina prices! Uruguay not so much. By the way the taxies are all rip offs you needed an Uber instead. I paid 37 US for a taxi from the Airport to the city. I made his day... Plus, I got a SIM card at the airport Claro store on the top floor no problem over the summer. And a Sube card at the terminal in Retrio too.
I genuinely believe that nowhere in the world will you find people from two capital cities that are as similar and perfectly matched to each other than Montevideans and Porteños. They can be very obnoxious on the surface, kind of like the stereotype people in the developed world have of Parisians or I'd suppose the stereotype some people in Australia have of Melbournians, but the Argentine friends I have are terrific people. I've met them by chance through other friends and I think there lies the main problem, the situation doesn't present itself for us to have a peaceful encounter on a leveled plain field without international shenanigans, like the ones you mentioned on the video: mate, dulce de leche, Gardel, etc. , which inevitably lead us to trivial arguments and disputes that ultimately push us apart. I love this comment and agree! to me, it is like if Uruguay was Adelaide (my city, the capital of south australia) Argentina would be Melbourne (the bigger, busier, more popular city in Victoria).
they are so close physically, and very similar, but they also fight a lot about silly things!
The airport can be quite slow too, I don't know if you would actually save a lot of time. About the sim card, I use my argentinian Claro SIM card in Uruguay (and other neighboring countries) with no problem by just activating the roaming and a data "package", doesn't it work the same way the other way around?
only with some providers! we also just thought we would buy a local one, which is what we do in all countries for cheap, but since the pandemic you can't do that in argentina... which seems odd, so now that we know, next time yes we can use roaming, but not with our pre-paid uruguay sims
Oof, Uruguayans do this A LOT. Montevideo is statistically quite a lot more dangerous than Buenos Aires even though it's smaller, but they always tell tourists over there or online that Buenos Aires is sooooo dangerous.
I don't know what statistics you use, but it's best to go and see for yourself. I lived in Buenos Aires and in Montevideo and the difference is abysmal. Not to mention that in Montevideo it is difficult to fall into the middle of shootings, police corruption, taxi drivers who take you around the city, etc. It's all very nice to live in the tourist area, but going 3 kilometers away can be a nightmare.

True, statistically BA is among the safest cities in the continent. Even more than some cities in the USA. So much drama about safety can only come from uruguayans, and their inferiority complex.

I was wondering how to access my money from my U.S. Credit Union account when on vacation in Uruguay, then I noticed HSBC has several bank locations in Montevideo and one in Punto del Este. Hurray!
i will say if you are a US citizen there are different banking rules here than for other nationalities, because of your strict tax laws

If you do this again try to ask the airbnb to get u the sim cards some of them try to accommodate to ur needs ❤

If you leave that area where you stayed, it really is worse than Uruguay. The amount of children and women I saw on the street were in such bad condition, I even saw them in Palermo Soho... yes they're nice parts of BA but the thief and economic crisis there is very real outside the nice shopping centers and "nicer" neighborhoods.
Argentina migrations are not much better at the airport, also expect to wait in line for 1 hour. And this is with Uruguay and Argentina being part of Mercosur (supposedly freedom of transit...go figure)

Next time consider getting a pet sitter. Lots of people would love the chance to stay in Montevideo in exchange for caring for your pets. Win win!
definitley an option but we just don't know how comfortable we would feel about strangers in our home! if a friend was able to that would be better
