Robbie Fowler… was my favourite player at the time, and now all these years later, he still is! So many memories, so many great goals.. his early years were nothing short of incredible, and really took the EPL by storm.. undoubtedly one of the greats!
that goal against staunton for me goes down as one of the best goals in history ..the cheek of the turn and a bullet strike awesome..my idol growing up and im a united fan loved the bloke
Yes and it's largely forgotten except by liverpool fans. However everyone remembers that Bergkamp goal
@@seancrowe3353 no.
Imagine Fowler and Suarez in the same team, imagine Torres and Rush, imagine Barnes and Coutinho, imagine Mane and Mcmanaman, and many more, we have and had some of the greatest footballers ever...YNWA
@@Geoglyph89 Cry harder
None of those pairings come close to Henry and Berkamp
@@benjames648 Total horseshit pal, sorry I'm not having that.
Henry & Bergkamp were great no doubt but to say that none of Liverpool's famous attacking players come close is just completely bias crap. The list of great Liverpool attackers is endless, the partnership that would have rivalled any in the PL era would have been peak Torres & Suarez but unfortunately it never happened but by god that would have been some partnership.
TBH even when you had those great players you still struggled to beat us most of the time while we have taken the piss out of your lot so many times I've lost count. Arsenal to me now are just a joke, good for a giggle but no threat whatsoever.
@@benjames648 Gerrard Suarez>
@@MULLAFC nope
I remember watching these highlights on TV here in the States. Brilliant. If I'm not mistaken, all 11 Liverpool players had touches in the buildup to McManaman's opening goal.
Fowler was incredible that year. In my mind, it was the best league season for strikers: Fowler & Collymore at Liverpool, Cantona & Cole at Man Utd, Ferdinand & Beardsley at Newcastle, Shearer banging them in at Blackburn...
Back when strikers thought nothing of getting 30+ per season. These days people cream their pants when someone gets to 15!
@seancrowe3353 nice turn of phrase !!
This Liverpool team should of won the league, just attacking class.
Roy Evans deserved it with a team like that. They were amazing. All they really needed was a very strong centre back or two (possibly European) and a midfield supremo/playmaker with experience to help them get a title.
Newcastle were equally as deserving of being winners in my opinion looking back and I'm a Liverpool supporter. Obviously I would have preferred we won but... In the end neither happened. This is still my favourite Liverpool match I remember as a kid though, stuck with me all through these years, this and the Newcastle vs Liverpool 4,3s. Also the Steve mcmanaman goal against Celtic a few days after this match if I remember correctly... Ahh childhood memories
Next year is your year.... Lol
Should have. And no. There are no "should have" and definitely no "deserved" in a league season except the winners. After 38 games the table doesn't lie.

If mane, salah and firmino had half the finishing quality fowler did, liverpool would be truly unstoppable. Their brilliant players but fowler was possibly one of the greatest pure finishers I have ever seen
Barnes, McMan, Collymore and Fowler, WOW!!
I wish Fowler never grew old... We need someone like him again!!!!
I don't think liverpool need anyone like that 🙂
@@1RowYourBoatGently actually after watching the last few games, i agree with you
@@1RowYourBoatGently ynwa 🙂
2:35 calamity james was at it again
He was pretty good that season. His mistakes grew more common the next season and he blamed it in being addicted to the play station!
This is some of the best football you will see
I remember being at this game, What an unbelievable game, I remember driving home being gutted it was only 3 , game was like a practice match after 3-0
Footballs golden years fowler, mcmanamen , collymore and john Barnes, I loved the game in this period but feel loads less interested now days can't believe how football has changed
yes it is better but the talents around in mid late 90's were more exciting i feel.
ADAM BRAILSFORD Thats just nostalgia you feel. Some of the kids of today will be saying the same thing in 20 years time about Suarez and Sturridge etc.
Probably is to be honest it was when the game meant most to me when I was a kid , I had all the kits , merchandise and I cried when Cantona scored in the FA CUP FINAL. CHAMPS LEAGUE wiped that with AC MILAN greatest game I have seen in club football.
ADAM BRAILSFORD Same here mate, the 2005 final was crazy. At half time and 3-0 down I left the house, disgusted and walked to the pub. When I walked into the pub, a fella with a liverpool top on told me it was 3-3, I thought he was winding me up. Couldnt believe it when I looked at the TV screen. I could hardly watch the rest of the game and the penalties, my nerves were wrecked. All sorts of emotions in one day but it was great.
We need those Champions league nights at Anfield again. Cant wait.
I was a student went into class full of man united and forest supporters and said nothing but they just laughed and told me how amazing the match was.
Personally, I don't think you can beat the atmosphere of Anfield in the Premier League.
Football Legends you can't
Goodison park as a better atmosphere to be honest
@@paulmcdonough1093 Good joke
Wrong on so many levels mate. Obviously you never stood on The Kop during the 70's and 80's when we dominated Europe and pretty much won everything there was to win.
You should travel to south america some day.
Not a Liverpool fan I'm Arsenal but Fowler was unbelievable player up there as a Premiership Legend one of my favourite players...And seems to be a down to earth bloke too.
love that you can here poor scouser tommy being sung at 6 minutes
what a team goal for the 1st!
I still cannot comprehend the fact that Fowler was overlooked on numerous occasions for England. Far better striker than sheringham or Ferdinand.
There was a lot better English talent then than now.
The whole standard of football has gone down. Secondly, the current team of shits are largely not English.
Great to see again. Thanks El Macca
4:53 "Are you watching Newcastle United? Are you watching Manchester United? It's Liverpool...breathing down your necks." I loved that line, even though it's painful to hear Martin Tyler's commentary be the soundtrack to the Mancs greatest successes
Great footage, great goals, great memories of 96 :-)
liverpool at that time was a terror team for any team!
Ha lol!
Are you watching Newcastle United? Are you watching Manchester United?
Best commentator ever!
Who won PREMIERSHIP this year???
this is great, as aston villa had the meanest premier league defense that season, but i still think liverpool 5-1 arsenal was more of a slaughterhouse at the start of the match
I was at this game.... back in the day.
Fowler would have been a world class player. Real shame he never got there.
We needed a few of these quality players in the current team for sure, you can not imagine us losing to Watford/ Chelsea/ ath Madrid with a Barnes/ fowler/ Mac in your side
Fowler was fucking lethal!!
Stan had all the skills to stick around and be an LFC legend…..only needed to look around him and see what his team mates were doing, guy was so gifted
Problem was, he had a chip on his shoulder and still does
@@euromusicfreak If you say so......
Oh I remember that Fowler's goal.
Liverpool totally destroyed us and had too much attacking talent. Only wish we could have ever been this dangerous.
What's happened to Anfield? Listen to that atmosphere. Absolute library these days.
Those days our midfield is uncontrollable by opposition
If gerrard was here on this season.
Look at that for a goal from Robbie Fowler, pure quality.
Great goal.
That flick was Barnes-like.
We shall not be moved! Wish this could still be heard on the Kop
where have you been the last 12 months?
Robbie fowler was one of the best strikers around when he was on his game. Class
What was the final score? Thanks
everything about this is better than todays footy..commentators for a start absolute crime sacking andy gray was the best out there he breathed enthusiasm..now we gotta put up with the likes of robyn cowan & vicky sparks appauling ....then throw in the best finisher of all time in my opinion robbie fowler and im a united fan used to love watching him play.
I remember this Adidas kit. One of the best kits I've seen.
McManaman was my favourite player.
robbie fowler...... 4:11...... if you scored that goal to relegate us (newcastle), I'd still be clapping...... what a goal mate
3:55 classic david james
Ford super sunday amazing times back then with genuinely two top fixtures.
Liverpool's current team may have just matched this with 4 goals in the first 20 minutes against Arsenal yesterday..
wow. Fowler knew what he was doing :)
Man Fowler is one of my favorite strikers of all time. I'd even put him in front of Shearer.
During that season yes, even though Shearer got more goals. But Fowler was only top drawer for 2.5 seasons. Shearer did it for years
@@seancrowe3353 Agree with you Shearer is a living legend for breaking all those records in premiership. However, I'd still choose Fowler over Shearer. He was more technically gifted I think and too unpredictable. I like strikers that can score a goal out of nothing
@@seancrowe3353 I also remember him celebrating a goal by sniffing the goal line . I think being a troll is a skill too and very useful in front of the goal.
@@Legenda20SLO that was very funny.
This Liverpool team played great passing football and for me best era of PLF
Remember dying after the night before crawling to pub to watch this... Fowler fantastic
excellent
SPICE BOYS! ⚽ 🇬🇧 👍
How was Mark Bosnich ever touted as Schmeichel's replacement?
Wow, was on the kop that day, 3 nil up after 8 minutes, expected a cricket score, it never came.
What a blistering start though.
RF9 my favourite reds striker and still, regardless of who came after!
Fowler was my favourite Liverpool player never thought I would see a better striker, but Suarez was different class hate to say it but he was magic.
God and Macca. Those were the days. Really thought we were going to win the league that year.
An assist and two goals within 10 minutes...Fowler's world class.
+solipsisticbliss. Yeah, but Barnes made the great assist (Andy Gray made an error in commentary)
The spice boys was their nickname.
I am an Arsenal fan, but I must say that they are the best Liverpool team to have never won the title. Some of today's Liverpool players are not fit to wear the shirt, just like some of our present players. Such a shame that Robbie Fowler is one of the greatest players to have ended his career at Liverpool without winning the title. Today's players would rather join a club who wins one.
What a turnaround both our clubs have made lately
Was at this game.
Good ol' days.

Damn i remember stevie mac he was ahead of his time people think that brat ronaldo is good stevie mac pisses rings around him
How many of the 3 players u mentioned, English? :)
that fowler goal was sexual

I love my LFC
I feel sorry for the clubs that got in the Liverpool's way that season :D
We played poorly against lower teams. That was the downfall is liverpool in the mid 90s
We weren't good enough tho were we

Was at this match.
What a shirt 😍
I wish our current midfield could create this much action.
Hard to believe its 16yrs ago . Robbie was on five live tonight & mentioned this goal ..
It's now 23 years ago
The team of today needs to take note!!! glad rodger's had noticed one fatal flaw at Liverpool- that dredded 50/50 hopeless long ball!!! Always had the team most inspiration was the twelth man, remember istanbul? walk on walk on with hope in your hearts!!!
I was there It looked like it was going to be a cricket score the way MacManaman was playing. Painful to watch for Villa fans. Lucky they slowed down at 3-0.
Watch!
I remember I wasn't there.
cool
Sorry for bad spelling fingers to big for phone
If Bosnich was one of the best goalkeepers in the country at the time, then it tells you a lot about the level of goalies back then.
Poor keeper that day he wasnt at the races at all terribe
1:59 great flick from Fowler? Andy, that's John Barnes
Bosnic hit the charlie after this game.
It's a shame Fowler wasn't used more internationally when he was on fire in 94-95 and 95-96 (apparently he only got his first cap this month)
England had Shearer and it was thought Sheringham was a much better partner. Unfortunately fowler went off the boil after 97 and when he was getting his caps he wasn't the same player. Both he and macca failed to deliver internationally compared with premier league. Shearer never had that issue :)
Barnes and McManaman had fallen out over something at the time. Hence, the awkward celebration after the first goal.
If we had a keeper instead of calamity we'd have won the league
United did the same thing against Southampton the same season. Then we did the Double.
Spot on. Only luck means you dominate English football for twenty years.

It's an shame through Injuries&some personal issues off the Field, which these inhibited, what should have been his Natural progression to be England's Top Goal scorer..And that's what Robbie could have become..I know he still had a tremendous career-but before he realised,Michael Owen had over taken him..But he has done badly off the Field,so life goes on..Not bad for a Lad From Toxteth..I hope he still has some relationship with the area..Organizing Youth activities or something?
Fowler could ruin any managers career in an instant
so ??
difference homegrown talent versus multimillion pound signings!

Burnley 1-6 Man City
(Adebayor 4, Bellamy 5, Tevez 7)
Good vid nevertheless
Needed a better goalie and one good centre back
Was there really any need for 14 minutes worth of it?
Probably the lot who switched to Chelsea and now Man City.
John Barnes started or assisted all the goals....
How the worm has turned this week
Goal 3 should hardly count. How did that one get through. I could have stopped that one. The keeper was clearly incensed with himself.
not quite, owen was unreal
Attacking football? Havent seen that in donkeys years
