    In the previous version of this video, I sprayed screen cleaner directly on the screen. I've always done it this way and never experienced any issues, but as some of you noted, this is not recommended by Apple. As such, I've updated the video to show the correct method. Ignore the part at the end where I spray on the screen. Thank you for pointing this out.

    • @GrahamQuigley
      @GrahamQuigley Před 4 lety +144

      Captain Eggcellent it’s from your keyboard. Your oils and dirt from your hands get on the keyboard and then on your screen when you shut it

    • @stevenchloe1
      @stevenchloe1 Před 4 lety +32

      Hello CE, I've used this idea for years. The smudge marks maybe the natural oil deposits from your fingers tips on the key buttons. The oil dries and collects dust. When the screen cover closes and meets the key buttons this dirt transfers to the screen and on my MacBook leaves horizontal smudge marks on the screen which I notice the next day. Use a piece of 8 1/2" x 14" printer paper to shield the screen from the keys when you close the screen cover. You will need to trim this reusable paper to size to fit within your MacBook.

    It's important to use as little force as possible. If you press down too hard you can cause micro abrasions in the screen and your screen will become dull overtime and you will never get that mirror reflection. Let the liquid and the microfiber do the work for you.

    • @ghost-user559
      @ghost-user559 Před 2 lety +26

      Yeah but take it from those who have made mistakes. If you don’t do it exactly like this, you will ruin your thousand or more dollars screen. The way they make them is waaay to sensitive. You can literally melt the top layer of the new screens off because of the anti reflective film they put on it if you use alcohol or certain soaps. Tap water has little shards and particles that scratch and streak your screen, and if you use tissues or paper towel, they literally are made from wood, and you will straight up scrape your screen.
      I mean it’s what you have to look at whenever you use a computer, and they are expensive machines. Don’t take the easy way out. Do this crazy process or you will regret it for real.

      @@gustavorosas4065 Yeah be very careful! I ruined my iPhone screen with microfiber cloth and made scratches on my old display. Luckily I never used alcohol or cleaner because I had already heard and seen the horror stories from that, but rip iPhone screen.
      You can only use distilled water and be very careful. But I will say on the original iMac and MacBook from 2012 or earlier it was just glass, and you could use any glass cleaner, same with old tube TVs which were just a sheet of normal glass. These new ones have to be taken care of like crazy or they will fall apart after a single cleaning. Kind of crazy the fanciest most expensive stuff now falls apart the easiest.

    What helps me is if you have little spect of stuff, like some sort of dried liquid or debrie or whatnot, I took the microfiber cloth that I clean my glasses with, and instead of adding water or anything, I literally just used by _breath._ Just VERY SLIGHT moister from fogging up a spot is enough to loosen up and pick up the speck for the cloth to get without rubbing any oils around.
    I don't know if I'd reccommend this, and I JUST bought a new laptop so it's very early on in the _still clean_ phase, but it works well as a preventative messure for the bigger streakier messes.

    Went inverting the towel (I use the exact towel btw) it wasn’t picking up the water that well for some reason and it left fried water marks on the screen. So wheat I ended up doing is drying the screen with the same technique but with a 100% cotton shirt and it worked amazingly

      Don’t use that spray! It will melt off the top layer and ruin your screen eventually! Only use distilled water and never spray it on the screen, only on the cloth you use.

    How come you don't use the orange microfiber cloth that comes with the Whoosh cleaner?

  • @Fractorification
    @Fractorification Před 3 lety +2

    Hey, I used a Whoosh! product, but rather than the spray like in the video, I used their disposable wipes. But, even after cleaning the screen with the wipes and drying it with the included microfiber cloth, the screen has some ugly smudges, it's not as pristine as your screen looks. Why is that?
    Does the wipe version not work as well as the spray? I'd assume it would be the same?

  • @omarmaster8562

    *An alternative is just a damp cloth, which is the safest and the easiest. Just don’t use a paper towel or a tissue which leaves dust behind and may scratch you screen. Just lightly damp a clean cloth and lightly clean your screen, then use the opposite side of the cloth if needed to dry off the screen. If their is streaks left, just try it again but clean the screen in a circle motion. If that leaves streaks too, don’t try again because it may lead to ruining the screen if you keep repeating. If streaks are still showing after this method get a normal screen cleaner like whoosh. Just don’t use glass cleaners which have alcohol and ammonia which may leave a stain on your laptop screen. I know all of this because I learned this the hard way. So use a damp cloth and if that doesn’t work get a normal screen cleaner like Whoosh.*

      Is it fixable?

    • @omarmaster8562
      @omarmaster8562 Před 2 lety

      @@user_-vv6is glass cleaners like windex have alcohol in them which is bad for the screen. Because some screens have a coating, like an oleophobic coating that gets damaged from alcohol. And that would leave a stain on your screen.

    • @omarmaster8562
      @omarmaster8562 Před 2 lety

      @@user_-vv6is also it depends on what laptop your using, maybe some screens are fine if you use glass cleaners. Don’t worry though, if you used it once nothing would happen, if it was damaged it would be noticeable from a stain. So just don’t do it again, and don’t worry, your screen is fine if you haven’t noticed anything.

    • @ghost-user559
      @ghost-user559 Před 2 lety

      Best tip in addition to everything you said is DO NOT flip the microfiber. The streaks come from the oil on your hands when you hold the cloth. Just buy a multi pack of the cloths and use only one side of each for wiping with the water, and then another one (one side only) for drying.
      If you try flipping the cloth over like you would think would make sense, you are now actually causing streaks because you are rubbing the oils from your fingers all over the freshly cleaned screen.

    Spraying cleaning liquid on the cloth instead - iCleaning (And it costs too $99) even if you're doing it by yourself.
