- How To Clean A MacBook Screen Without Streaks in two minutes! This tutorial will teach you how to safely clean your MacBook Pro screen with water at home with a microfibre towel.
The screen cleaning process takes about 2 minutes to perform and will leave your MacBook Pro screen clean, without streaks, and without causing or risking any damage to the screen while cleaning it. The tutorial will work on any MacBook so will also teach you how to clean a MacBook Air screen.
To clean your MacBook Pro screen you will need:
Two clean and dry (and preferably new) microfiber towels
A bowl of plain water with no detergent
That's it!

Most people make this simple mistake when using microfiber towels to clean: czcams.com/video/hhYFNdD3QN8/video.html
Commenting so ppl know it's a good vid since youtube hid dislikes...
Just did this exactly as shown and worked beautifully. Thanks for the concise and helpful vid! If you're leaving streaks on your screen, double check that youre using a microfiber, that you are only putting a little water on the cloth so it is only damp (not super wet!!) and not putting water directly on the screen, and that are aren't pressing too hard. I also found it useful to have a 2nd microfiber cloth so to help dry it since my first one got a bit too damp
Worked perfectly! I had not cleaned my screen as i was scared to scratch/damage it but none of this happened using this method. I got a pack of microfibre cloths from amazon for cheap. Thank you!
Great. Streak to the point. No hyper-over-youtube-geek-entusiasm. Thanks.
Don’t watch my other videos in that case 😅🤣
Thank you so much! This video was so easy to follow and straight to the point. My MacBook screen is so clean and it overall feels so much nicer.
Awesome :)

Glad I could help :)
Thx bro it worked!!!!
Awesome :)
Awesome video, I would love to have seen how clean your macbook looked but my screen was too dirty to see the end result
Watch it again after you clean it :P
I use an electronic spray from Woosh, because not only does it clean it, but it also polishes it to keep it looking new.
Thanks 🙌🏻💯💯
No problem 👍
Awesome, simplistic and staight-to-the-point video. thank you
Thank you :-)
LIFE SAVERRRR!!!!!
Thank you :)
THANK YOU! My last MacBook Pro screen was so "delaminated" from incorrect cleaning, it was hard to view.
Thank you for your helpful video! Well done! My screen looks immaculate now.
Glad it helped!
I have a Imac and I'm very picky about the screen can't stand blemishes or anything on my Imac screen.. And a couple weeks ago had to take my Imac to a Apple store to replace the screen as the anti-glare started peeling off.. And when I dropped it off they told me that they use Whooshi so I got some and it's the best stuff I've ever tried all kinds of stuff.. You spray it on and use a microfiber cloth and it cleans so easy and put a coating on it that often when I clean it either the same day or the next morning I don't even need to use Whooshi just clean it with the microfiber cloth.. I wish I would've known about it years ago would've save a whole lot of time cleaning computer screens..
Sooooo shiney!!!
The Shiniest!
Great advice 🙌
Thank you! Did you try it?
nice
So I feel like an idiot! Literally worked with just a lil water and a microfiber towel, LOL! I used to use rubbing alcohol and cloth and it works for other screens but NOT these! It looks brand new again with zero smudges, dirt, or lint residue! Thanks!
great to hear :)
Bro said he never saw the smudges every time he open the screen in 4 years of use... lol ok
Zamboni man
damn why are the smudges on the newer macbooks so extremely hard to clean, this seems like it wouldn't work on mine, but i'll try and give an update if it works
edit: yeah it worked, took a little more effort and wipe downs but it worked
'm not sure you're still replying to comments from this video from several years ago, but a question: You recommend using new microfiber towels that haven't been washed so that the detergent doesn't get on the screen. But how do you wash the cloths after cleaning the screen? Like, if I buy a pack of microfiber cloths and start cleaning my screen weekly, what do I do with the cloths I used? Do you just rinse them under water? Or wash using dish soap? Or, what do you do? If you see this, thanks for your help.
Use warm water to clean them and let them soak for about 10 minutes, then just let them air dry and you should be all good
Thank you! Is this applicable to all laptop screens?
Yup yup :)
Everyone should be able to share picture of before and after in the comment section, that would be epic
I’d actually low key love that 🤣
I use windex on the whole macbook and never had a problem, also never let it get that dirty in the first place
I’m going to go with manufacturer recommendations and not yours.
1 dollar for the cloth, and my macbook looks like new! haha thanks!
Yup! You’re welcome :)
My Macbook screen doesn't have many smudges, but always has dust stuck onto it. When I try to wipe it my microfiber cloth leaves small streaks, almost like scratches, on my screen. It's the 3M Microfiber Electronics cloth, do you have any advice on how to prevent that?
Are the cloths new?
I have a 16 MacBook Pro and tried to clean the screen the same way you showed, but it still leaves smudges.
Are your microfiber towels clean? Are they new? If they have been laundered and fabric softener has been used they wont work. What are the smudges? Are they fingerprints or something else?
@@CleaningHowTo The smudges I got weren't finger prints, they came from the microfiber cloth.
@@yaqubahmed3002 sounds like the cloth is dirty - was it washed with fabric conditioner? A clean microfibre won’t leave a smudge.
@@CleaningHowTo Yeah I think it was a little dirty. I'll try a clean one next time.
can we use dry cotton wool just to remove the dust if it isn't that dirty?
I wouldn’t; cotton wool is wood basically.
All this time I was thinking I need to buy cleaning spray for my MacBook 🤦🏻♀️
Nope! In fact, they’d leave residues! They’re a con!!
two questions: is any microfiber cloth is OK? and since we live in a different country should i consider the purity of the water
Any clean microfiber (preferably new) is fine, water purity shouldnt be an issue.
@@CleaningHowTo I'm wondering about the water too since some tap water has a lot of hard water deposits
Dang, I did it just like you instructed and it still left streaks. I bought new microfiber clothes, too. Do happen to have any further advice?
That’s very odd. At a guess I’d say there is oil on the micro Fiber from manufacture
@@CleaningHowTo Possibly. I’ll buy microfibers from a different brand and use distilled water this time. Hopefully it works. The streaks are super annoying when using the terminal.
My wife has a rainbowish look to the screen that doesn't wipe off. Did she wipe off some sort of coating?
possibly, consult with the manufacturer.
does this work with the macbook air m1
I don’t see why not!
While cleaning I got scratches that are barely visible. Should I be worried?
What did you clean it with?
@@CleaningHowTo with a microfibre cloth. But now I think it was dirty. Should I be worried? There are like 4 but they are only visible when you shine like a lamp or torch on them.
Does it have to be turned off???
Ideally yes.
Use sandpaper, no screen, no tension 😂😂
Are you ok?!! 😂
@@CleaningHowTo how do you get those keyboard imprints on the screen?
I just scratched my screen up doing this. It was an 100% microfiber towel. I feel like crying I do not know what I did wrong
Was it a new/clean microfiber?
@@CleaningHowTo Should the microfiber cloth be washed right out of the packaging before cleaning the screen? Also, does it matter if we use tap water versus bottled/filtered water?
cool the fingerprints are gone but now my screen is filled with streaks i cant get off either now
Was your cloth new?
i literally couldn't clean it with water :( i used some other screen cleaning product, will it damage ?
I'd be careful
Did you use tap water
Yup! Plain tap water :)
Apple told me Woosh is ok.
Spend your money how ever you wish :)
i just used my shirt lol
I have done it very careful but it leaves minor scratches
It can’t scratch if the cloth is clean - these screens are glass.
@@CleaningHowTo okay bro
I don't know why ...its very thin scratches only visible in mobile flashlight
bro I used towel to clean the screen , will it damage the screen?
Has to be a new, clean microfibre; not a cotton towel, a cotton towel will damage it
Is it safe to use cleaning alcohol on its case/lid? It's still a bit dirty after cleaning it with only water😅
It also had few light scratches on it.
I can’t see why not but always test first! I wouldn’t leave it dwell long either I assume the clam shell is painted!
do not use alcohol on your screens, it can damage them
@@pixsled did you watch the video? 😂
@@CleaningHowTo I'm so blind I thought he said screen my bad lol!
@@pixsled no problem lol
I definitely agree! No alcohol on screens!!
Won't water get through the gap between glass and the frame?
No; the cloth should only be slightly damp.
@@CleaningHowTo Right! Thanks...
You should be ashamed. But you redeemed yourself here.
Bruh. How do you let your MacBook get that dirty?
For views 😝
me who was cleaning with tissue before this video 🫢
Ruh roh 🙃
tap water or drinking water?
Either is fine!
What a disgrace how could you let it get that bad It takes me over 10 minutes I clean mine in the dark with a 1000 watt lumen flashlight with the screen brightness turned all the way down I don’t have a single smudge when I get done but I’m also ocd and it’s not normal. tip, if you want it completely clean of grease when you wipe you can’t stop it leaves a grease print the shape of your cleaning cloth Circular motions are the best
I let it get that bad to do a video :P
@@CleaningHowTo i bought macbook air m1 on 16th august and today is 31st and only 15 days and the screen is so dirty and i am suppa afraid to clean it with water , what if it go inside and damage it all as i can see a gap between the screen and the bezzles 😕
@@Slayclay1 make sure the cloth is only damp - DO NOT LET A DRIPPING CLOTH NEAR THE MACHINE 🙂
mate chill out 😂😂
Your doing witchcraft or something
This is impossible
Your the best
It’s definitely witchcraft - and clean microfibre 🤪
literally scratched all my screen :( absolutely gutted !
what did you use?
@@ikkyabdi7775 everything that was on the video :(
@@xxcalsterxx oh noo, sorry to hear that, I was waiting for your feedback so that i could try the hack but i'm now scared to try it, better safe than sorry😮💨
gamnak thamai
For that price the screen should be cleaning itself, not me doing super cautious 10 step instruction to clean it
I bet you’re fun at parties 😂
@@CleaningHowTo its nothing against you, I was just about to buy one, since its the only Apple product I am missing, but those guides about better not even touching your MacBook aren’t really encouraging
I use spit to clean my macbook
Only a Mac owner would allow their screen to become so revolting and unsanitary, Apple actually suggests a 50/50 solution of fabric conditioner and coal dust, applied with 800 wet and dry paper. The final result really enhances the display quality.
You probably need to rub yourself down with 800 grit and socialise yourself being honest 😂
get some alcohol ipa ffs
I’ll go with the manufacturer’s instructions as per the video 👍
