  • Hey there folks! The Dead Air Odessa-9 and JK Armament 105CCX are both 9mm cans designed for specific roles. Both cans are around 1" in diameter and both cans are user serviceable as well as modular. Both of these cans are specifically designed for use on 9mm semi-auto handguns but the 105CCX branches off into a micro niche as a boosterless, concealed carry can. With so much being similar between these two cans lets see how they stack up against each other... Enjoy!

    The 105ccx needs to be used wet. Mine is in nfa jail the last few months waiting. Its meant for concealment and for concealment pistols. Great video.

      Very true. It’s definitely more suited as a lightweight concealed carry can vs a full size range can.

    A good metric to keep in mind is OSHA says that decibels at 140 for a single impact noise is "hearing safe" it just so happens that cci standard velocity 22lr out of a 16 inch barrel is 140db

    Just under four months to get mine (from paperwork to in-hand). I picked the JK because I liked the cost and the fact that it didn't need a booster. Plus, the Odessa looked a lot more gassy.
    Won't get to test it out until the spring, but I've really got your video to thank for it!

    Mightve need to reduce down to 148gr mightve worked at that point. 160 grs have a harder time cycling on any pistol.

    Great video! I have both the Odessa and the CCX and I also find that the Odessa is much quieter when both are in the full configuration. The Odessa is even quieter dry than the CCX wet, though as you indicated, the Odessa definitely has a first round pop. I purchased the CCX for concealed carry only, and I find that it works quite well with only one baffle and wet with petrolium jelly. That is how I will carry it on my Glock G43.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 3 měsíci

      Great observations and input 😎👌
      I like how you can approciate the CCX as a “quieter” muzzle device and not a ninja quiet suppressor. Keeping cans in their wheelhouse is hard to do but I think your application is spot on 👍

      @@DoneWithAlgorithmTorture I haven't started carrying my G43 with the suppressor just yet, I'm still experimenting with it. However, when I do, I'm only going to carry it with one baffle , so I would imagine that any holster with an open bottom would work. Perhaps a holster for a G48?

  • @JJBTEXAS494
    @JJBTEXAS494 Před 4 měsíci

    Would have been interesting to see them compared by length instead of by # of baffles. The DA was always going to do better with the same number of baffles since its blast chamber is considerably bigger. Still, great video!

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 4 měsíci

      You’ve got a good point 🤔 Most of the DA blast baffle is taken up with the booster so there is a little bit of “special illusion” going on. It would still be interesting to compare by length like you said though.

  • @dam00k
    @dam00k Před 2 měsíci

    I got the JK knowing it wasn’t super hush. It’s super light, doesn’t need a piston and maybe can just take off enough muzzle flash and percussion indoors to not incapacitate my hearing and sight short term. It’s a bedside set up, not carry for me. I prefer the subjective side by side to nerdy decibel comparisons, I can read db’s on the spec sheet and unless they’re shooting what I use it can be way different.

  • @eudaem0n
    @eudaem0n Před 8 měsíci

    I'm considering the JKA CCX and here's the niche use case: I'm thinking about how I want my Flux Raider set up for concealed bag carry. The P320 is notoriously finicky when it comes to suppression. Removing the need for a booster might make the Raider reliable enough for emergency defensive use because as it stands today, I can't rely on it cycling consistently with my DA Wolfman. And this is what many people report about suppressing the Raider with different cans. So if it did ensure reliable cycling, it would be the best way to suppress the gun even if the sound suppression on the can won't really compete with other cans in a strict sound comparison. I haven't checked if you have a Raider, but if so, I'd be very curious to know how the can works on your set up. Appreciate the content!

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 8 měsíci +1

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 11 měsíci +2

      It’s a little loud but I’d say it’s safe. If you keep it in full configuration and wet, then you’ll be happy. I need to get a 22cal front cap for it and see how that’ll help tone everything down 🤔

    When you say designed to be shot wet means what? It has to be wet or it can be used wet?

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 11 měsíci +1

      It performs best when you put some vaseline or other “wet” material on the baffles. You don’t have to run it wet but it will sound better when it is wet.

    what do you mean by tune

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Good question. So when you add things like suppressors to firearms it changes the balance in how they operate. So if you want the gun to work properly with a suppressor then you need to tune it but changing the weight of the recoil spring or finding ammo that had more or less pressure.
      That’s a relatively simple way to explain it. I’m sure others can chime in with more detailed info.

      @itsamk18-ish Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@CalebDowning yeah they’re pricey and it’s a super niche thing, i think most people that know cans know that you’ll never get super sonic to be movie quite and at this point it’s really just splitting hairs on who has the quietest can. I’m more worried about durability,purpose/ functionality and modularity. It would be nice just to check some manufacturers crazy ass claims though lol.

He says he could talk round and round about it but he wont, but that is what he has done through the whole video. dude, do you watch your own videos?? you talk and talk and talk with no real meaning. this whole video could have been 5 minutes long. the shooting of them was so short that we couldnt really know what was what. so not really a comparison.
