    Definitely appreciate these videos. I've only got a few cans at this point, so it's great to see comparisons between brands. One thing that is worth mentioning, for those in the market for pistol cans, is their their overall diameter can obstruct your sight picture (even with suppressor-height sights). Volume is great for sound suppression, but you gotta think about the host you'll be running the can on!

    Couple questions;
    1. What is/was the bore size of the JK can?
    2. What are the bore sizes of the other cans?
    3. How many baffles were on the JK? I counted 2 plus the endcap. Have you tried it in a longer configuration?

    I thought #1 was wolfman and #2 was Omega9k. They both sound so similar but it sounded like the Omega9k had a little bit of a crack with some of the rounds. For it’s size and dedicated k configuration, I don’t think anything else really beats the Omega9k. But having the long configuration and multi cal use of the wolfman is 🔥

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 2 lety +1

      The nice thing about the Odessa is that you can tune it a little in order to get it to run better. I didn’t take the time to do that for the video. Next time I go out I’ll try and mess around with it and see if I can get it to run more reliably.

  • @unleasheth
    @unleasheth Před 2 lety +2

    On camera, from our end, I would say #4 was def the quietest on subs. As a very close 2nd on subs would be the omega. Thats just what I heard. Also, other than weight is there any issue it seems most people run shorty cans on their pistols? Like say, why not a 7" D cell out of alum or titanium? Sometimes I think the best results would be achieved having BOTH length and diameter. As long as the gun will truly cycle when I need it, and its as quiet as I could hope for, I dont mind the weight, if my adrenaline is going prob not gonna notice a few more ounces anyhow to be honest

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 2 lety

      I hear ya man.
      Personally, if I am going to be using a suppressor on a pistol then I’m gonna want something that is smaller and lighter vs longer and heavier.
      There’s a balance and point of diminishing returns when you get a can that’s too long. If the can is too long then you will get a significant amount of pressure that gets dumped back into the port. A short can doesn’t have as much of that problem but it’s gonna be louder. With all that said, there’s a balance that should be met.

    • @unleasheth
      @unleasheth Před 2 lety

      @@CalebDowning Oh I see. So, in the G48, as far as that issue goes, is there any benefit to running a more lightweight spring/rod? Like especially if u do go longer can? Reason I ask is cuz I have g48 but can wise mostly for carbine/rifle. The only booster I have around here is SDTA I believe, if I can find it, normally never needed one. Kinda not digging the whole browning action thing with supp pistols vs rifles lol

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 2 lety +1

      Some pistols will benefit from different weight springs/rods.
      I’ve got one Glock 19 that had a lot of cycling issues. I tried heavy and light springs and it still didn’t help. But that is how you are supposed to tune your pistol to function with a suppressor.

I'm sure NFA Review/Adam would give you a thumbs up, especially since there are so many cans out now and the more comparison vids the better. By the way, I heard you mention the 10 vs 11 baffles in your Odessa vid. I also have an Odessa and I actually contacted Dead Air about the baffles, and this was their reply in case you're interested:
      The design of this suppressor has been changed and is now documented as a 10 baffle design with the appropriate length, and we need to follow this design per regulation.
      I apologize for the inconvenience and unexpected change to the product you were researching. The engineers and designers of this product found sound suppression performance to begin falling off quickly after baffle #10 and made the call to cut the eleventh baffle based on that info.

      I can’t speak for Nike but I’ll answer for me. The Odessa will never get as quiet as the Wolfman, but it is definitely smaller and more compact. If you want to add some versatility to your suppressor line up then the Odessa would be good. But if you want another really quiet can then the Wolfman would be good.
      Also keep in mind the Odessa has an extremely narrow range of use. It’s basically only a 9mm can. If that’s what you want then go for it.

    The three 9 cans sounded the best by far. The thing that seems to separate them is form. I've heard that the Wolman blocks even suppressor height sights and at 1.6 inches wide is even fatter than a full sized duty gun. Wouldn't it be hard to use and annoying to carry?

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před 2 lety +2

      It would all depend on actual application and use. There are some suppressor specific holsters that will work with even the larger Wolfman, but those aren’t really tailored toward concealed carry. On that note, any suppressed pistol is going to have its challenges when it comes to carrying it.
      The “obstructed” sights issue isn’t as big of an issue to me. If you shoot with both eyes open then you can superimpose them sights onto the target and still get accurate hits. If you have a red dot then you’ll be able to see everything you need to see.
      That Odessa is really small and is much more discrete, but it’s never going to sound as good as the larger Wolfman. Simple physics 👨‍🔬

      I will say that the JK is a Form 1 can from back in the day and it is unclipped. They cans they sell now are clipped and, I would suspect, sound better.

      @@CalebDowning I would love to see a showdown between Obsidian 9, CA$H 9, and Mod9 FS with those other 3.
      Also, I am going to buy one of these 9mm cans if this Mojave doesn’t drop soon…

      I’d really love to see that cash 9. It’s probably the only Huxwrx can that I’d ever get unless they change over to the HUB mount for their rifle cans.
      I am going to test out a flow through can here pretty soon from a newer company. It will be the first flow through that I’ll have used, and it’s 9mm 👌

    With quality speakers and headphones... Odessa was best with subs, Wolfman was next with subs. I don't really care about supers.
    A request... please don't use a Glock again for suppressor tests as they are notoriously poor suppressor hosts. Bad dewll time makes lots of port noise and as you showed, often they just don't work with suppressors. Same story with Glocks at Silencer Shop RTR, the NFA review channel and Tim's Military Arms Channel.

    Great video BUT you should have ran all subsonic rounds THEN ran all your supersonic rounds... that would have been an absolute dead give away. I get that your main focus was to demonstrate thr difference between sub and sup in each can.

    Wolfman is a rifle/carbine can tho. Not a can that works well for handguns

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  Před rokem

      True, but that depends on your definition of “works well”. It sounds really good on pistols but you won’t be able to use the old school, one eye closed, shooting technique. If you have suppressor height sights or better yet an optic then you can definitely utilize the Wolfman on a pistol.
      I will agree that it is designed for PCC work and not specifically for traditional pistols 🔫
