What do you think of the fence? Is it certified EPIC or what? I LOVE IT!
Certified Epic for sure!!! That is such a lovely looking fence
Def epic, real stardew 'hardwood fence' vibes
The look is good but I think you should make sure it is on your property. Even if your neighbor is nice it may be an issue when you or they want to sell the property. Most permits require it is on your property.
EPIC!
When did you buy all that lumber?
It is good when the next door neighbors, go half with the price on projects that benefit both ways.looking absolutely woooowww 😊
It’s good if they have spare cash sitting around that they are able to part with more like it. Each homeowner has their own planned projects for their own homes
Very appropriate timing for this video to drop, with those lunatics trying approach you at your home. Next project, the Epic Moat.
No kidding!
I missed that! Wow.
Oh no! I can't believe people don't respect your privacy!
@@Sparkysings2 I missed that too.. Do I need to rewatch the video?? 🤔
@@MsJay0913 Instagram stories.
You don't need to apologize for more hectic or late videos!. You give so much good info for completely free and you do it in such a kind, well rounded way.
I found this channel recently so now I watching all the videos starting with your oldest one and watching it all progress and come together. The new fence looks amazing.
Very epic fence, and epic coveralls. Thanks for the transparent and thorough breakdown of the cost of the fence. Good that you have more privacy with the fence. Your garden and home should be your safe and peaceful space. I can't believe people actually think it's ok to show up and bother you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm so sorry you've had to deal with people who don't understand boundaries. I've had to get a restraining order recently. It's awful to be harassed and not feel safe in your own home. The fence is epic❣️🧑🌾🌸🐓
Crazy, sorry you are dealing with as well!
Love the fence! Don't feel stressed. At the beginning of the video I was thinking, "How does Kevin have all this time? It takes me a few hours to get anything done in my garden let alone projects as Epic as this! Sit back, grab a cocktail, and enjoy your new fence!
I will be!
You know when i was watching this video at first I was like "I wonder why he bisected his property with fence, I probably would have kept it open so its just one huge area instead of a front and a back" but when you started talking about privacy towards the end I was like "ohhhh yeah....people just show up and stalk kevin now"
Yup exactly
Whaaaa???
That’s so creepy! I’m sorry to hear that happened, your home is supposed to be a place you feel safe.
Well, at least you know it wasn’t me, I live in Ontario Canada and the border is closed 😆
Yeah, it's an unfortunate thing that comes with increased visibility. :/ It's shame not everyone respects privacy.
Honestly...diggin your neighbors on both sides right now. You're blessed man, you just never know, so awesome.
You got that right!
They are probably glad to have a good neighbor that loves to work on his home.
Since you moved to your "Epic Homestead" I've been glued to your progress thanks for taking us along. You talk to us like we are friends which I appreciate. I hope this new EPIC fence addition keeps away noisy neighbors you have a right to your privacy after all this is your home.🌱
Appreciate you!
Great neighbors are a true blessing❤
Oh no!!! I saw the other comments and thought "Well, maybe they're talking about something he posted elsewhere," so I checked ig and saw your story!! I really hate that happened to you, and you're so right! That is not okay!! I have wondered about things like that with other content creators, like Garden Answer and them showing her parents' garden center (something that could be easily located), and how you all manage that kind of thing and knowing how much to show or not show.. I certainly don't have this type of following, but I'm always leery of showing certain things from my yard/street in public photos and videos..
Privacy is such an important thing. This fence looks amazing and I know the cost of it will be minimal compared to the benefit you get out of it.
Furthermore, I support you; it's not ok to be harassed by anyone. #iStandByKevin
Love it!
So epic! Also, great neighbor doing his part with the cost! I'm so glad the epic homestead is doing so great you inspire me so much
It looks good. I'm honestly surprised it didn't cost you even more than that.
The fence looks so great. I'm so sorry you are dealing with people making you have to change your plans on in person garden tours and workshops at your home. Thank you so very much for all that you do with giving all the content you do I've learned so much. That looks so great.
Really cool fence Kevin! If the bowing bothers you you should probably fix it sooner - since the wood after a few seasons will set into its new shape, then you can remove the extra material that was keeping it straight.
Also... do make sure to keep that tunnel between the house and fence as clean as possible. I can promise you from personal experience rats and all kinds of pests are going to find it heavenly :)
Good luck man! I hope you get to do like "before and after" video of some property sections, at least once a year. So that both you and us can notice how much things have evolved!
I will for sure - great tips!
All I heard was "I don't want the people in that house over there (points finger at specific house down the street) seeing what I'm doing."
🤣🤣
LOL not intentional!
@@epichomesteading 🤣🤣🤣
@@epichomesteading What's wrong with wanting privacy? I think it looks amazing Kevin.
LOVE the fence. Quite an investment, but wow!
So glad you got a break with the neighbor pitching in and getting the stain. So nice that you gained access to that side of your house.
I can't wait to see what you do along the North wall. The fruit trees would be wonderful.
I love the stepped horizontal style of fencing, it seems more common on the west coast and southwest. Thanks for bringing us along with ever seemingly mundane home improvement project you do. Hopefully the crazies won’t ruin it for you or us.
Let's hope!
I never thought I'd sit for five hours, binge watching homesteading and gardening, picking pots and drilling holes, reroofing and solar.
But here we are.😆😉
yessss kevin get tht privacy ‼️ now all u have to do is run an electrical current thru ur fence gates so the creepers don’t b lurkin haha but seriously this has to be one of the nicest fences i’ve seen your entire property is so friggin coordinated, amazing work get lots of rest mentally & physically :)
LOL truth!
berries along the fence would be great but may I suggest a low raised bed about 3' from the fence to plant in? More air circulation for a hot climate and possibly less disease for the fruit leaves. Could use all that dirt for the bed. Air circulation here in Florida is a huge consideration for me when planting anything. It really is a beautiful fence.
Yeah, i love that!
A shout-out to great neighbours!! The fence looks great too.
Obviously a fan of the classic EPIC Gardening, but I've fallen in love with the Homesteading journey -- shows a little more of the daily grind with great insights into all the different projects (not just garden related) and really appreciate the transparency with costs and expenses
Great fence. It took a couple of years to eradicate all the Brazilian Pepper suckers in my garden once I had the tree removed. They certainly love a sub-tropical climate ( Brisbane, Australia).
Glad everything is coming together for you. I grew-up and learned to garden in the Deep South. Very long growing season. Married a Navy Officer. Boy, I had real terrible gardening in WA at first, then Central US.... now we are moving to VA. Its another temp Zone that I've never graden in. I LOVE your gardening Spirit, the Epic Garden has helped me learn that I can adapt to any climate Zone, by using Elevated beds and just not giving-up. Thank you, you're a sweet Fella.
Welcome to VA! we have a pretty good gardening season here. I hope it’s a wonderful new journey!
@@rebekahkasper6126 So Sweet of you! Moving to Chesapeake! I'm ready to get my hands dirty in VA!
great wall of san diego
I think your video production is perfection, and I love you and your videos so much that I would forgive any type of break that you need ❤
It looks gorgeous Kevin! Loved seeing this transformation.
Glad to see your costs have not gone up like mine, Lumber is up 4 fold! 16$ for a 2x6x8, Love the fence, put wheels on your gate, 5 ft gate has weight to it and will cause your posts to bend over time.
Turned out beautifully! Thanks for sharing the entire process! Your neighbor is awesome....hope he is a long time neighbor....no plans to sell any time soon! Peace and blessings to you!
Looks awesome. You have done so much to transform this place already. You are making your mark. Soon your garden and backyard will be the eden you imagine.
😕 The “dumb outfit” at 8:55 is actually something I would wear 🤷🏾♀️😂 I’m all about the practical look when working outside 🤪 The fence looks 🔥🔥
LOL
Just an outfit to keep stain off your normal/ garden clothes. I agree whole heartedly
Espalier fruit trees would be a super cool thing to show, my mind was completely blown the first time I saw one! Maybe you could alternate, fruit tree, berry bush, fruit tree, berry bush.
That'd be amazing!
A great investment in privacy and building up the value of your property...good looking, and as it ages it will even be nicer. Congratulations...well thought-out,
and well built. Now let's get lots more planted! We're looking forward to seeing what you come up with next! Stay safe!
I think the fence is AMAZING!! I love the wood with the black posts. SO stylish and private. Epic and kick ass!! 👍👍
I'm about to replace rotten fencing in my backyard, and was considering this option myself. Thank you for all the straight up cost breakdown and other info. Keep on growing Kevin, great job.
With lumber costs, holy moly, thats a gold fence!
epic as ever, thank you :) you know what would be even more epic ? sting of lights on the fence. during night time it would be incredible ! and you could turn it on from home or from an outside switch.
I'm thinking about that!
Looks amazing, but that cost is why I’m going to keep my chain fence. I planted Texas sage to grow as a hedge. In ten years, I might have some privacy. Lol
Ka-CHING! Beautiful Kevin, but holy cow!
Sensational colour
But the natural cedar color is sooo beautiful, Kevin!
Edit: I retract that! The stain turned out beautifully! Should have waited haha.
It's a bit too bright for me!
Espalier fruit trees 👍. Could also do the same for the fence in your front yard area. The more trees you have the better, the more varieties even better.
So happy for you, the fence looks absolutely incredible! I love it!
It would be cool if you could find solar LED down light caps for the posts on the part of the fence that separates the front and back gardens. That would look really cool at night.
Totally!
Oh that looks wonderful I had a fence put in this year as well and they did a horrible job they completely botched up the job they didn't even take the old post off they just cut them down and let it be and it cost a lot of money he said he was going to come back and fix a few things and he never did come back that was March it's now September so you were really lucky to get someone to do such a nice job I was told not to stain my wood and till the next year because of the stuff they put on it of course I don't know anything about Cedar but you do have a wonderful fenced-in backyard
How about some special fig trees? Smith, Italian 258, Black Madeira, etc. You have the climate for those to get beautiful.
That soil would be a great filler for your raised beds. The rusted garden taught me how to ammend and mix your current soil to make a raised bed mix. I know you have mentioned gary in your older videos and he mentions you in the giant tomatoes challenge this year. Just something to consider
Gary is great!
This whole process is amazing...learned something. Love the Slip Fence System...
Thanks for being honest about the pricing. The fence looks amazing and I hope it last a very long time.
Epic Kevin, definitely Epic...Awesome...Inspired!!
Beautiful fence! Yes, costly…but that’s what it is for quality.
Be sure to sell the wood from your old fence. It may be old but it has recently appreciated in value! 😉
i gotta say, I have no clue about all these lumber talk, but I somehow thoroughly enjoy the whole video! Been loving this vlog style of epic homesteading! Great job!
Beautiful!
Man, I love everything you've done with the epic homestead I'm super jealous of the growing season you have in San Diego. I'm in the northeast where I get maybe 4 good growing months.
Oh man...making the most of it I hope tho!
@@epichomesteading I'm trying! You inspired me to build 4 raised beds of my own last year. It's been a learning experience for sure!
“SHOOOOOOOO YEAH” I love it. Level fence love.
Beautiful
i came here to learn about the materials used because i love the look and simplicity of it. looking at the warped boards i thought of an idea to maybe prevent that. it could be time consuming but when i build this i will try drilling and Dowling each bord together as you place them on top of each other.. anyone else have any ideas for the warping?
Don't cut the top off the medal stake post off ...they're great for screwing plant hangers and solar lights every other post on mine with hidden drip irrigation on automatic system
All that old fence demolition 😮💨, at least you had a place to sit between the houses to catch your breath! 😂 🪑
I get more and more hyped every video for the future drone shots of a fully decked out epic homestead. Gonna be so sick
Gonna be insane
Great job, the fence looks amazing, few boards don't line up, but I'm sure you will fix it.
Love when you keep it light and fun. Garden is looking awesome and it's great to have nice neighbors. Last video when you were laying in your tomatoe plant has had me smiling. Keep it up ! 👍🏻 EPIC
Your new fence is beautiful. In fact, your entire property looks amazing. You are doing a great job!
Looks great, Kevin! Love the privacy you’ve gained. Looks like a whole new property 😊
You produce such good content on a regular basis. Thanks for bringing us along for the journey!!
Love the fence. It looks beautiful. Perfect for your epic homestead. It’s awesome that the fence is going to last for at least 30 years. I believe it’s well worth the cost.
We opted for vinyl because we didn't want to do any maintenance... And of course the gate latch bolts are loose and just proud enough to interfere with the latch mechanism.
Beautiful fence. It better last a lifetime for that price.
Automatic like upon entering. Thank you for helping me in my gardening.
So nice of you
I love this look I think it’s my best choice
When you hit the year mark it would be really fun to see a “how is started” vs “how it’s going” video. Just to see the EPIC progress you’ve made. 💜
Beautiful job
This is just a beautiful fence! I love the look of the wood with the metal.
Love you Kev, epic is the realest channel out here!! Always makes me feel at home! I'm so happy for all your successes on the homestead!!
Fence looks really really good. Makes me want to do the same thing for my yard. Waiting a few years for prices to be reasonable sounds like a better option. Not really wanting to spend 40-50k on a new fence.
Still love the overalls 10/10 XD
My first thought was that building a fence that high would negatively affect the amount of effective sunlight for your plants and trees but, as usual, you are a few steps ahead and had already considered that.
That's a nice fence system. I got a quote for something very similar here in Ontario, Canada last fall and it was nearly double for about 85 metres (about 275 ft) plus a gate- and using pine because cedar is just too expensive right now. So... no. We'll be getting something cheaper. If this was our "forever home", maybe. But it's not.
Love it!
LOVE THE FENCE!!!!! keep up the great work guys.
That fence is gorgeous! Unfortunately, the winters here would destroy it. Most people here have vinyl fences.
One awesome thing about projects like this is you'll one day ask yourself how you lived without it. Also crazy awesome that your neighbor split the cost of the fence on one side with you
Amazing
Congrats ! You have come so far Kevin 👍👏👏👏😁😘❤️
Beautiful fence and that cost seems reasonable (of course, I’m not paying it, lol). I have to believe the fence will add to the value of your property-it just takes the yard to a whole new level. Thank you for sharing.
Really like the style! I was afraid of warping, but when you screw the ends end the warping should not be a problem as I see it. Congratulations!
Definitely epic!
It is a nice fence. I think that pool needs one of those "natural pools"
Great looking fence! *What a beautiful avacado tree from your neighbor!😊
honestly I can't believe you accepted some of those extremely warped boards, the lumber yard will take them back.
Great video. I'm thinking of putting in this fence.
Right on! Truly epic fence!
Never even know what goes into selling lumber it's definitely interesting 🧗😉 yeah you are really smart to protect yourself while doing the project 😉 it really does help to have friends in the business either way you're awesome 😻
Getting ready to do our fence- going to really look into this style. Love it!!
Have fun!
Muscadines would be amazing to add along a portion of your fence. They are gorgeous Vining plants with the most delicious fruit! Native to the Southeast but they love heat, so you may be able to grow them in your zone. They have been used for centuries to make sweet wine!
Your fence is beautiful. Although it may have been a little pricey, my opinion, you are young and it is an investment that will pay off in the long run. Good ideas about how you stained the boards!!!
