This deal comes at a perfect time for me. I've been wanting to get a VPN to watch the new Big Brother Canada season after binging some episodes on Paramount Plus.
"Open Water" is so freaking scary for me, being stranded in the ocean is one of my biggest fears. Awesome list by the way!
The fact that it was a true story makes it even more scary. Has to be one of the worst situations you could be in.
Totally.., also because this could happen. It’s based on a true story, and is every divers worst nightmare…
Ditto
Water based horror is terrifying to me because I have really bad thalassophobia and submechanophobia. This is a great list and we need more aquatic horror!
Same
Love your list can you do a forest/woods horror list
absolutely!
Thanks for not feeling this with shark movies, sharks are one of my favorite animals and they are often demonized and while I do enjoy a good old shark movie every now and then there is so much more to fear in the ocean than sharks
Very underrated genre!! Thanks for this vid! The Dark Water remake is worth watching IMO - not amazing but has a lot of the same atmosphere as The Ring, which I know you love!
Loved dark water! Scary and mysterious.
Yup! That’s cus Hideo Hakata created both Ringu and Darn water Japanese original. He’s a genius
Fun fact! The bay was filmed in my hometown of Georgetown, SC. It was crazy when they were filming with everyone wanting to be an extra 😂
Same thing happened in my hometown with Piranha 3D 😆
12:05 _Open Water_ is a serious movie because it's "based on a true story". Well, more accurately, it's inspired by true events. There really was a couple that was left behind while scuba-diving and never seen again. But since they were never seen again, obviously nobody knows what actually happened, they may have simply drowned from the start, so the knife and sharks and everything are just inventions by the writers.
Fun timing, I just picked up Dark Water at a thrift store yesterday. It's so rare that I find any horror movies at the thrift stores in my area so I was very excited. Will definitely have to give it a watch soon!
I think water horror is the genre that scares me the most, especially underwater horror. What lies beneath the surface...Chills!
My recommendation for this video is HARPOON from 2019!
Yes! I just watched Harpoon last night and absolutely loved it!
I loved Crawl. I was a college swimmer, so the swimming scenes were especially fun for me. Good list!
"The Fog" is one of my favorite movies; so underrated both when people talk about John Carpenter and just as a movie in general.
Exploration horror would be another good genre to cover (As above…, the descent, the ruins, etc)!!
‘What lies beneath’ is my fav water horror! So underrated imo
Stooop Sarah you look so cute w/ this hair!! And great recommendations! water horror movies are my absolute favorite, who knows why lmao
i love these types of videos from you! big fan of old, underwater, and crawl. as an arizona native, i'd love to see one of these top 10 videos with desert horror movies. there's some good ones!
omg yes!!
"The hills have eyes" (remake is better imo) springs to mind.
My favorite underwater movie is THE ABYSS by James Cameron (1989). It may be sci fi but for a claustrophobic like me, it's a nightmare but I love it 🤗
Love seeing Ghost Ship and Underwater on here! Deep House had such a good premise but it just kinda ended up being meh, which is such a shame. Like it could have really tapped into submechanophobia combined with the haunted house feel like how Event Horizon was like a haunted house movie but in SPHESS.
The Dark Water short story collection is a really good read. Hideo Nakata definitely matched the tone in the Dark Water film. The 2005 remake is actually pretty good, too. It's loyal to the source material and that's why it works. I really like both film versions.
I'm basically at the point that I think Koji Suzuki's writing lends itself very well to film adaptations. Lots of psychological horror and suspense, great concepts, and clear recurring visuals to latch onto and define the visual language onscreen.
Do you mean he matched the tone of the book or story? The remake was bad, it didn't capture the spirit of the original like The Ring did.
Agree, the remake is really great. Jennifer Connelly is a good actress and beautiful too.
Yes Hakata is a genius!
Never apologize for collecting DVDs. I do, and if I have a movie on DVD it's because I felt it worth owning and having a tangible, physical copy of it. Also I'll tell you, that yourself, Emma and CZ's World are the channels I come to for my horror reviews. I can trust your opinions!
Having DVDs of the movies and shows you most like to rewatch is a great idea too since in today's world there's so many streaming services and media is constantly getting moved around to other services or just completely taken off of them. Just paying for the service your favorite media is on isn't a perfect solution since it could become unavailable or locked behind another service's paywall at any time. When you own a physical copy, you can watch it any time you want without having to worry about paying streaming service subscription fees or whether it'll even be available to watch. So yeah, collecting DVDs is also practical and not something people should feel like they have to apologize for.
Cody Leach is one of my go-to horror movie reviewers too.
No Sarah! Let's hope DVDs don't come back! Those prices CANNOT go up. 💀 Especially not second hand. 👏 we are gatekeeping the dvds here thank you 👏
SO TRUE I TAKE IT BACK NVM
Aussie movie 'Rogue' sooo underrated. Always freaked me out as a kid but continue to love it to this day. Instead of a shark it's a croc and I think the quality has held up to this day
I would love to also see a top 10 comfort horror movie list, if that makes sense lol. There's so much real horror going on in the world and I just turn to these movies for comfort. Right now I'm watching Dr. Sleep which immediately became a comfort movie for me.
"Comfort Horror" reads like an oxymoron but I know exactly what you mean and it IS a genre for rewatched horror movies. But I don't think any horror movie is a comfort Horror the first time you watch it?! Especially when goal number one in horror is evoking discomfort. XXX
(My comfort Horror is Severance)
I've been re-watching Host (The Zoom movie) like crazy
I actually just watched a REALLY good movie that would fit in this category. It’s called Harpoon, everyone should definitely give it a watch! It’s on tubi and prime.
I think "the Reef" is more tense and effective in terms of suspense than "Open Water" (which is OK). I remember having more stressful moments in the Reef.
I'm so happy to see that you included The Bay! I remember the first time watching it when I was 12 or so and being so utterly disgusted and horrified but it was an exciting movie experience! The soundtrack also makes me feel so anxious? Anyone else?
I highly recommend a movie called Lake Mungo, water isn't seen that much but it's the only movie that's ever scared me, it needs to be watched alone in the dark though.
I recently watched Triangle due to your past recommendation, and it was GREAT! Not AMAZING, but I loved the way it turned into a completely different kind of film than you would originally think. It’s probably the craziest movie I’ve seen, and the ending was very sad. Great video as always, thank you for these awesome recs.
You are blooming and blossoming into the best Sarah I've ever seen throughout the years of following you.
aw this is the best compliment thank you 🥺
@@PossessedbyHorror You are very much welcome, keep on going. Lots of love and support from Turkey 🇹🇷❤️
I love seeing another Turkish person supporting her. 🇹🇷 Sarah and Emma are the greatest!
It's more of a science fiction thriller than a horror, but The Abyss creeps me out anyway with it's atmosphere. underrated James Cameron movie. Also watched Below recently, it's about a submarine crew during WWII who might have a ghost problem. A fun watch.
The Abyss is an excellent choice.
YES! DVDs are forever that’s why I love getting my faves on dvd too 💗
The Bay scared the crap out of me when I watched it. It was so much better than I expected!
As someone who experienced a near-drowning experience as a kid, I don't necessarily have a fear of water, as I do love to swim, but depending on the context, a water-based horror scene or movie *can* hit different for me. I even had my own creepy, movie-like moment once where I swam out towards the middle of a beach pond to float and relax. When I decided to make my way back, I hadn't realized how far I swam out from the shore, so for a moment there, when I took a break from backstroking to look up and see how much closer I'd gotten, it looked the same as before, scaring me into thinking I hadn't moved any distance at all. Thankfully that wasn't the case, but it was a frightening feeling regardless. 💧
some very underrated/unheard of water / shark horrors (possibly thrillers) I've watched:
the reef (2010)
bait (2012)
I love "The Fog" so SO much...
Another good water horror is the 1978 version of "Piranha".
Might I make a suggestion for your foreign horror list? I think a top 10 is WAY too few to cover the whole world. Maybe you could do a top 20? Or maybe do an Asian horror list (imo, Japan and South Korea alone could be over half of a top 10 list), and then a list for everything else.
Yes please to this idea! Japan and South Korea make the best creepy (non-slasher) horror films. My favourite genre.
Yay, water horror! Love this video and the thumbnail too :) When you mentioned Crawl, it made me remember the film Lake Placid which terrified me when I was a kid lol Also, another great shark movie is The Reef. So chilling and suspenseful.
Ghost ship is so underrated. Good list btw.
You, Emma & Chris are the only reviews I’ve been watching for like the past 3 years, y’all are the only ones I trust
Who’s Chris?
Chris Stuckman, I imagine.
@@jukie16 Chris Stuckmann he’s a filmmaker and he does movie reviews on CZcams too
Nice list, Sarah! My two most recent favorite "water" horror movies are Sea Fever and The Block Island Sound. I'd really love you to watch them and share your opinions!!
Edit: also Breaking Surface was good (more thriller than horrr)
Sea Fever!! I enjoyed that movie so much 😍
This list is fire.
The fit is fire.
Really so happy you talked about The Bay and Dark Water!
I watched the Dark Water remake after knowing about Elisa so I actually thought the movie was based on her case. My heart quite literally skipped a beat when I found out it wasn't, man that was creepy
*Sees "water" in the title*
Yup she's gonna mention Triangle lol but it's okay im here for the other recs 😁🤟
If you haven’t seen this movie Check it out!! It’s an Asian Water movie called The Pool.. about a guy who gets trapped in a pool with a Crocodile and how him and his girlfriend has to escape it.. if it sounds different and weird .. it was!! I watched it and had to immediately rewatch it I liked it that much!!
That sounds great- immediately added to watch list!
Can you make a video explaining all the horror sub genres and going over all of them
I did a tier list ranking them a few years ago including my top 3 for each sub genre! :)
Have you ever watched the 2000's horror called Pool? It's one of Isla Fisher's first movies, I watched it when I was very young, I remember enjoying it a lot, don't know if it holds up though
Happy friday, Sarah! Excited for this one
You seem so excited in this, love the vibe!!! Lots of great choices too, I guess I have to go watch Triangle
Water horror and creature features are my fav horror genres of all time.
Great list! I love these themed subgenres of horror (winter, rainy, water, etc). Keep it up! I keep forgetting about Ghost Ship, so thanks for reminding me. I am finally giving it a spin. Loving the 2000s aesthetic so far!
Great selection... My favorite is "The bay" super found footage in which its protagonist was one of the "Pitch perfect". Another one I liked was "The Shallows"
OUH didn't even realize this was a genre and now i'm so invested lol thanks for the video Sarah! love that 🤍
Water horror is one of my favorite horror sub-genres. Movies I like that you didn't mention two obvious choices maybe but Sphere and The Abyss, and one that's from 2005 and maybe not very good but I love to re-watch anyways The Cave.
Ghost Ship and Open Water are amazing. The acting in Open Water was so good it was too good. They were so perfect, I went to bed crying. The Deep House was AMAZING! It scared the hell out of me! I love Black Water with the Crocodile too!
Thank you for not filling this list with shark movies! I think its an awful trope when in actuality sharks are such dynamic wonderful creatures! Also your hair looks so good in this video! Very 2003!
Love love love this list!!! Great video! Also your outfit is so cute and your hair looks so good like that!
not a movie but water horror book rec - Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant!! one of my all time faves
As far as water horror goes i've got two gems for you, i was watching the video hoping you'd mention them but they didn't crop up so here goes. "Harpoon" is absolutely fantastic water horror and falls into the category of oddly comforting depending on what bothers you and the other is "sweetheart". Its isolated horror that i love, nothing but the protagonist dealing with the threat on a small island surrounded by nothing but open sea. The water segments are terrifying if you think of the larger implications of what the film is suggesting. Give them a watch. Hope you enjoy them. 👍
my favourite genre is water/shark movies so this coming up in my notifications was so exciting !! also your outfit and hairstyle is really cool
Loved this video ! ALSO your hair style looks too good on you !! 💙💙💙💙👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
water horror is my favorite ahhh, also i watched the deep house after you mentioned it the first time on your channel and i loved it so thank you!!
I totally get the nostalgia thing with DVD -- I wouldn't even address it anymore. I have about 200 4K UHD Blu-rays at this point but I still miss the absolutely lovely attention to detail that the best DVD titles used to get back in the day. I picked up the Sin City blu-ray at some point but I held onto the gorgeous DVD set that came with a graphic novel packed as well. Same with Dawn Of The Dead (1978) -- I'll eventually get that boss-ass 4K set from Second Sight to have the best possible video presentation but I'll never EVER get rid of my old DVD Ultimate Edition -- it's beautiful. But we all have different reasons for collecting physical media, and it's nobody else's business to tell you how you should do it.
Yes! I mostly buy blu rays now but still get dvds from time to time and I'll always keep hold of my much bigger dvd collection. I have so many cool special editions and boxsets with amazing packaging and artwork etc that look better than any blu ray I have
I LOVED Underwater. It deserves more love in my opinion. Love all the movies talked about but I have a soft spot in my heart for deep sea horror.
Omg it just popped out an ad about a cruise in the middle of your video about WATER. So scary how our devices hear everything
that’s the true horror
Im absolutely loving the hair , the fit , everything! Super cute - also can't wait to see some of these
Triangle is now one of my go to movies because of you!
I really enjoyed “The Beach House” 2019.A mixture of “The Fog” and HP Lovecraft. Some sweet body horror as-well!
I'm loving your original content! Water horror movies are kinda underrated nowadays.
Love your look!
I watched Triangle after seeing you talk about it and I loved it!! I thought the ending was awesome and didn’t see it coming. But Gonjiam on the other hand wasn’t scary like I was expecting. It was mostly just funny to me but enjoyable either way. The ending on Gonjiam was definitely scary and the atmosphere of that last scene is awesome!!
I just started watching horror and your videos have been very helpful. Thank you very much!
Love your videos; you’re doing great! Thank you for this content :)
I love water horror! I love the water but it also terrifies me, especially deep water settings. Love your lists!
I LOVE Crawl! I recently got it on DVD too. I agree it's definately underrated. Such a fun watch to me. I'm also glad you've given me several recs that I hadn't even heard of before this video. You love to see it.
Great list as usual 🌸
Hahaha knew you’d start with that one! Love this list!!!
I loved The Bay and had forgotten about it as I rarely hear it talked about, so thank you for the reminder to rewatch! Would you ever consider doing your top 10 favorite movies involving witchcraft?
Your videos are my favorite!!!! Love a good top 10 list, and yours always hit. Thanks for the content!!
thank YOU!
Wow. Grew up in an extremely haunted house on a tiny Island in the Caribbean in the early 70's (about to turn 55 yrs in June) - which (back then) shaped my love for every and anything horror. It was my way as a young child of dealing with the trauma of the daily paranormal incidents/experiences that were witnessed by numerous family and house staff. Starting from the original Scooby Doo series (at 4 yrs old) ..culminating with sneaking into the living room (at 5 yrs old) and watching my first ever 'horror movie' THE BLOB - original black n white) while my extended family screamed in horror. Thus began my love affair with and why Horror remains my favorite genre to date. Loved your channel the second I found it (about two yrs ago). Won't lie. Between Mummy and I - have probably seen over 90% of Horrors mentioned on your channel but by the same token: You have introduced us to some Hidden Gems and our motto is :Nothing will ever be too messy..asinine or banal for us to ignore. Why? Everything is relative and also? When you grow up on a backwards ass Island in the 70's and all you can look forward to ON A SUNDAY afternoon is a black n white version of "Godzilla Wreaks Havoc On Japan for The Twentieth Time?!"......................You learn to if not APPRECIATE. Give them all a chance and Ignore the critics. Bless. Can't wait to hear your judgement on the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre - no words ❤❤🤣🤣
Ghost Ship was one of my favourite movies as a kid and yeah that opening scene is top-notch! Even now I can still hear the music, it's just iconic
I really loved the water horror elements in a cure for wellness. It's not really a horror movie, neither is it a very good movie, but the whole cinematography and use of water was just great in my opinion, especially if you consider that gore verbinski was supposed to make a bioshock movie but that got cancelled.
Triangle sounds very interesting as well, will watch it as soon as possible!
I don't see why collecting DVDs needs an explanation in this day and age. With all of the mergers and new streaming services coming out, you never know when your favorite is going to become inaccessible.
Perfect timing with all the floods and never ending rain we’re having at the moment.
i loved this review, water horror is a great genre. I did not see the original Dark Water but check out the remake with Jennifer Connelly and John C. Reilly, i thought it was well done. Lots of my favs on this list; Triangle, Underwater, Ghost Ship all SO good. Thanks for the vid, happy to be a subscriber. 👏🏻👏🏻👍👍😎
Love this video hun ❤️ I was just wondering what is your art work of in your background? It looks amazing
The bullets vinyl in the back always makes me smile
I knew and hoped youd include underwater. I was really surprised how much i liked it and have watched it several times. Great list
Another great horror/sci fi water movie, imo, is Sphere
I love the new hair style 😍
Just started to watch open water. Thanks for the list 😃. Next is old and underwater!
Thank you so much for mentioning The Bay. I adore this movie.
So happy Ghost Ship made this list. One of my faves and so nostalgic for me now. I have a feeling I will love Triangle... time to go watch it.
I really love that you collect dvd’s. I live out in the middle of nowhere and the internet is very spotty so I collect a lot of dvds too!😊
So many movies to catch up on. Triangle is certainly intriguing. Hadn't heard of that one before
I LOOOOVE The Bay. I’m so glad you mentioned it.
Love your sweatshirt. Thanks great list
The FREAKING Bay scarred me lol....scarred for life 🤣🤣🤣
Just subbed, long long time horror fan, yaaaayyy 👻🌊
Very interesting list! I really need to watch all of these movies, especially Old!
I love water horror movies and I watched all the movies you listed, I love that for me lol keep up the good work!
The bay prob the only non paranormal movie that got me as scared as Paranormal activity
YES truly horrifying
I'm a big fan of Piranha 3d, I know it's not a great movie but I think it's a fun enjoyable watch.
