Its very uplifting to know they care about their fanbase
Let's rephrase: They care about the Japanese fanbase.
Yep, when do we ever see this amount of transparency from a developer prior to release?
That’s the indie game crowd for you.
Dragovski Verkovic Some features were added based on the feedbacks by foreign players outside of Japan. It's 2018 developers aren't dumb enough to only care about certain fanbase.
ohi blox
The team seems very excited and passionate for this project and I wish it nothing but the best.
Oh hey Sabuuchi, how's life in warframe goin
Really? You got all that from this video?
Excited? XD
They seemed quite robotic tbh
Nahh they are forced to follow the director
All developers should go through this process.
thedreadedzero sad most don’t
thedreadedzero There are betas but the devs don't ask questions
All developers do, they're just not public about it.
Tbh, what they mentioned in this video should be standard with any game and it is... It's concerning that they didn't go through this process prior to feedback - which would suggest they have little to no quality assurance testers.
For example, UI aspects in regards to save slots and dialogue aren't hard to miss - in fact they teach you how important it is to make it as user-friendly as possible in the first year of your interactive games and entertainment course.
The visuals... well it's BASIC knowledge in the development industry to create maps, landscapes and arenas with proper lighting and focal points in order to properly guide the player. If it is just bland, same textures/buildings/walls/trees etc. with no lighting to guide the player, it is very easy to get lost or feel unsure about whether you've gone the right way.
These are not "new" concepts, they've been around in game development for a lonnnnnng time. I'm surprised an experienced dev team made such rookie mistakes. Again I believe they simply don't have enough testers or QA experts so they're relying on the general public.
I don't think these are "rookie" mistakes you make it sound as if they've never designed a game before, you see UI issues in every type of game tbh
Square and Nintendo..., what a lovely mix
BOBINGTON The Espeon It is nice seeing them work together on a home console again. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
More companies need to take this approach.
Raymond Games Yes.
Raymond Games why not?
Most of them do, you won't know because you only follow one.
Could you give an example? I don't remember ONE big company doing this.
AliVe -- "I never saw it, therefore it never happened" -- That's basically what you said. I could give you examples, but wouldn't it be more fun if you look for it yourself?
This is a good development team. They‘re giving updates and are making changes based on their survey and player feedback.
Silicon Studios are the ones developing the game. They were the ones that developed bravely Default and Bravely Second.
Silicon Studios actually has little to nothing to do with this game. Some key developer and producers are working on Octopath, but the entire team of Silicon Studios remains uncredited. The development team is a joint project between Acquire and Square.
M1YAK2 Not always a good thing. Look at the hot mess FFXV became, and they still listened to feedback.

Ayame Kajou Are you seriously just copy and pasting this comment everywhere, seriously? LOL
I love that they did this. They didn't have to make a video, but they did anyways
This is the single most positive youtube comment section I’ve ever seen
I'm guessing Nintendo fans are just super happy right now. We just had an incredible 2017, and now we have so many amazing exclusive games coming this year it's crazy.
Truth!
been to the lofi side of youtube?
It's amazing what can happen, when you clearly show the dedication+passion from Devs working on a project, who are then directly communicating to their potential player base at large, and not only are they communicating with said player base, but are actually implementing thoughtful suggestions from such a player base, all to make their project even better than it already was!
In other words, of course it's a positive youtube comment section! As the developers who make the games we enjoy as our hobby, are actually showing *interest in our opinions* and making their game better for it, while actively participating with their target market demographic! THIS NEVER HAPPENS! LIKE EVER! Fans of video games, are so happy+rejoicing right now in how good this game projects looks, feels, and is being implemented, there's no real reason for ANY negativity!
ESP. after the disgusting/deplorable S*it shows of 2017, like "LootBox front II" and "Shadow Of Loot Boxes", where there were no F*cks given about the player base at large, or gamers interests+opinions at all for that matter, and where all passion for the projects by DEVS themselves, were subsequently concealed, behind greedy+unethical business practices, being perpetrated by the large publishers at the helm, and where any such 'passion' from DEVS was not only NOT SHOWN in their titles, but became instant SHAME on their part, due to the inclusion of predatory MT's+loot boxes in such titles, and this SHAME was brought about themselves, by such DEVS being Complicit in the implementation into their projects, or they would go the way of Visceral #FuckEA....
...So, yeah, Screw those other so called 'AAA' games! Octopath Traveler, and it's AMAZING DEV team is where it's at! Those other so called 'AAA' wallet hungry, ponzi scheme, rushed to market bug filled messes, can go pound salt by comparison for all we care, LOL! These greedy publishers should know by now, that we don't want some sub-par mutilated game experience being called a 'Service'...with endless 'milk the customer dry' pay walls, DLC, F2P+P2W 'mobile land' revenue generating systems crammed into a 'product', We just simply want Great games, from passionate DEVS, who are creative, and that care about their player base, and This team DEFINITELY covers that aspect in Spades, enough to warrant DEFINITE DAY ONE PURCHASES...AND IN DROVES!
I really like that they took all our concerns into notice and are striving to put out an amazing game. This is how it should be, developers caring enough about their work to bring us something truly great! Absolutely can't wait.

Ayame Kajou your a sour puss
Ayama Kajou Are you copy pasting your responses to peoples comments?
Ayame Kajou are you sure that they dont have QA experts? Or are you just spouting nonsense? For all we know how the game is basically an amalgamation of 2d sprites and 3d environment it was sometime hit or miss with the setting etc. Also some people will always whine about the HUD and every little thing... Just like someone here. Damn people are really hard to please.
Aias Yeah he is.
Wow even the demo feels nostalgic already. This game is going to be amazing.
The music is incredible. Kudos to the composer!
EA and Bungie, take notes. This is how you actually communicate with your playerbase - by taking their opinions into account and maintaining at least a small level of transparency.

AAA game title developers don't always go to the general public because they have already accounted for these basic problems. What you may be referring to are more complex problems with games, such as economy, content draught, balance fixes, random errors and game design mechanic overhauls.
I'm not a fanboy of EA and Bungie - I just hate when people claim to understand game development when they haven't even studied interactive games/entertainment media, little alone worked in the industry.
+Ayame Kajou Give me a break. These vaunted "AAA" developers have proven again and again that they don't give a damn, and they most certainly haven't "accounted for these basic problems".
That's why games like Gamblefront II were released as a completely buggy mess. If you want more examples of that, just look at Bethesda. They're nicknamed Bugthesda for a reason. And I'm not even going into the micros issue.
In any case, no, I stand by what I said. Sure, the fixes mentioned in this video might be relatively trivial, but that's not the important thing. What matters is rather the principle and the fact that Square Enix show they're willing to communicate with players.
Goku Black Oh please, stop with the ill informed AAA dev hate. Square Enix isn't exactly angels either. Bethesda games may have bugs, but they certainly released a lot of great games. Say what you will about bungie, but don't be lazy and just spew hate like that.

Infinidagger Adventure! ACCURATE
Infinidagger Adventure! This is my new favourite comment
Infinidagger Adventure! Very colorful usage of words
But a little bit too esoteric.

I bet it's actually suede.
I am absolutely picking this game up day one, no questions asked
So far looks like a safe pre-order for jrpg fans, but should never expect a masterpiece before it's done and shipped.
Pona true, true. I’ve liked what I’ve seen of this game so far, but there is always the chance that something will happen to change my mind. For now though, I retain my original stance on this game. This video alone shows me that good things can be expected from this game, so for now I am VERY excited.
Yeah I played the demo, was a superb experience and in this update they just added more good. Let's hope they make the world feel good and not so disjointed between the different characters.
Pona if the disjointed world was brought up in some of the surveys that are influencing the development team, then there is a decent chance such an issue will be addressed
Yeah, the only problem with the demo for me was and the whole game potentially will have. Let's say you do the Primrose path, can you still do Olberic path if he's in your party? Or is it 8 replays to get 8 stories? Also how long are they, if there are 8 playthroughs they can't be like 40hours each. In that case it would feel stupid to just have bland characters with no ambition to tag along while only 1 story plays out. Also with 8 character playthroughs if would feel annoying to reset the potential character development and relationships they build on the way. If you get what I mean.
Am I the only one who actually loves the name “project Octopath Traveler”?
Honestly, I could go either way about the word Project being in the title. If it had it or not, it would not matter to me because I am going to pick up this game when it comes out.
striker0 they’re obviously not going to keep project in the title.
Michael Justice I do really want the final name to be Octopath Traveler. It's so unique and lively.
Bit of a mouthful tbh
i'd be happy if the name ended up being Octopath Traveler
I love how they used the demo as a conduit to improve the game based on feedback from people who have actually played a bit of it. Hopefully this means less chances of games disappointing in the future if they implement this type of system to aid development in games.
3 things I want:
- world peace
- a cure to cancer
- release date for P:OT

CourageousGreenLink A MAN OF CULTURE!
ty, glad you liked it :)

And no problem!
This is phenomenal. I was really curious how much they we're going to do with the survey feedback, and it seems like they're really running with it. Glad to hear the dungeons are getting some visual changes, as that was one of my few complaints.
Developers who Actually listen to feedback I'm definitely buying this game out of respect for them
This is the game I've been looking forward to the most. I loved the demo and can't wait for the full game
I’m SOOOOOOOO hyped for this!! It’s my most anticipated game of 2018, and looks absolutely fantastic!!
JacksonLOVESNintendo Honestly I'm also waiting for it too! The old school FF games were my life as a kid!
JacksonLOVESNintendo mines is still Kingdom Hearts 3, but I'm also excited

Love this! They addressed all the major complaints I've heard so far regarding the demo. Shows they really do actually care about making this game the best it can be!
Wish SE was more like this usually. Maybe then, FF wouldn't have fallen off as much as it did.
Is it sad that I'm more excited for this game than most of the AAA games coming out this year. Also it feels really good to see your Feed Bag actually go into the game for the first time I can't wait for this game.
No, what's sad is your view that Triple AAA games automatically mean better quality compared to games made by smaller studios or even individuals, there is no logic behind thinking that.
No, it just means you are a sain human who cares more about the passion put into the game than the money invested in it. :)

It’s refreshing to see my voice heard
Noah Vaughan OUR voices heard
They made a game that looks and kind of feels like Final Fantasy 6. My dreams already came true so I'll be quiet
I want super bosses and a easy medium hard difficulty
This game looks outstanding! I love the fact that the Dev Team is taking feedback and implementing it for the best experience! Here's to more information soon! 👍
I might as well sell my Xbox and PS4. Switch has everything.
The demo was the best demo I ever played. It made me feel obligated to participate in the response system
I played the demo like it was a full game. Most anticipated game of 2018 for me.
I seriously can’t wait for this game to arrive! I’m going to play through every single character to get the entire perspective!! The demo instantly hooked me with the incredible visuals...but really sold me with the different stories between the two characters.
You guys are geniuses. Thank you for making such great games and listening to players' feedback.

Ayame Kajou A copy and paste comments like this get a down vote from me. Perhaps you haven't heard about what happened to a bunch of big western game last year and their loot boxes. What's important here is they are establishing communication between the fan base and the developer without being deceptive, which happens so often. Essentially you missed the entire point.
I am not and never have been a big turn based RPG fan. This game however, is different and special. It's made with the same kind of love that games like Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger were and it shows. It's unique, plays very well (even in demo form!) and I know it will be as memorable and repayable as those classics. I can already tell that this will be an experience I will never forget and always cherish.
I played the demo and absolutely loved it. Felt like a combination of old school Super NES jrpgs mixed with Bravely Default. Can't wait for the full game.
I can’t wait! This is going to be masterpiece level, I feel it.
No, it is going to be a legend!👌
S O M B R A yep its gonna be like a final fantasy 7 or 10 type release
Wow! They fixed everything I told them could improve in this game in the survey! Great job for listening, devs! 3:20 was exactly what I struggled on and asked them to fix, and some other awesome things I never thought they'd think about were added!
That's very nice improvement! Can't wait for that game.
I'm so glad this game is being made better and better over time

This game is literally going to change the industry and restore square to It's former glory. It's so AMAZING!
Scary Terry Until they decide to screw it up again with a FFXV-2
Finally a developer team that really listens to the people! Cant wait for this game.
I'm so happy we finally have an update for this game, I can't wait for it's full release.
I’m so hyped for this game
I'm so happy to hear something official from octopath. Really excited for this awesome looking game
Wow! The development team putting out a direct to audience video on how the game is being improved based on player experience!
What a great world we live in; very excited for this game. Day 1 purchase for me!
This games demo was so fun I'm really hoping we get more
Still no release date *cries*
April 30th.
I was just kidding. I'm so sorry!
2018
Magitroopa they have already confirmed it to be this year, known guess id maby mid 2018
Yeah, I know. It says 2018 in the description. But my point is that there is not a release *date* for it, 2018 is just the release timing/release year of it.
This is the game I'm most hyped about right now! Demo was super fun, especially the combat, and the music and graphics style were amazing - can't wait!
Gah this game is gonna be so amazing I can tell. And I LOVED the dialogue especially from the dancers story!
OCTOPATH TRAVELER HYPE! I reviewed Lost Sphear and I can't wait to do a compare and contrast!
My most anticipated game of 2018!
I am so keen for this! They seem really passionate and focused on the fine-tuning of this awesome unique RPG experience! From the battle mechanics to the 2D-HD art, it's all good; and they haven't even given us the final name for it!
This is a day-one purchase for me! Demo was great and I love how dedicated the team seems.
John Friscia Me too, they really put love and care for this game that I'm happy to give them full retail price. Plus all eight different stories from each characters? Heck yeah!
Glad they are responding to feedback, as if I wasn't hyped enough for this game.
Lot of great little changes. I just hope the apparent difficulty complaints don't encourage the devs to make it too easy. Still my most anticipated game!
By far my biggest concern. The last thing I want for this game is it to be turned into something you can just coast through. In the words of the immortal Fils-Aimé, "If it's not a battle, where's the fun?"
If they do the tutorial right and just explain a bit more in depth some mechanics like how much of a difference boosting and buffing makes it should be fine. The only reason it was hard was if you still didn't get the hang of boosting and maybe if you had a bit too little max hp which is where a couple more levels can help. So maybe they could add an optional minimum level suggestion. But I don't think they'll make it easier.
I don’t see “working title” so, is the final name of the game project octopath traveler?
Could be. I personally wont mind just because the acronym would be POT
I assume that the title name is finalized.
No
That's kind of a turn off. Hopefully they change it...
I fell in love as soon as I played the demo! Looking forwards to it just as much as
SMT V
YO THIS GAME WAS LIT. I didn't expect me to like this game but I LOVE IT!

Was hooked the second I saw the Trailer, put 3-4 hours into the demo alone. Can't wait until this is out!
Also, this is how a Demo should work. Put it out early and rework some stuff. I hope more developers will do this in the Future.
I have 10 hours on demo, i tried almost all things posible
I really need the full game
Considering most of them, these guys included, don't seem to understand that allowing you to set your own control scheme should be a basic industry standard, it probably won't.
Thank you for the improvements. I Love this game! HYPE!
Already have my copy pre-order a must have in my switch collection
So much love is ported into into this game then most AAA games combine.
Can't wait for this same with shin megami 5, valkiria chronicles 4, Darksouls, sf collection, bayonetta 3, no more heroes and lots more.
Ivan Ramos you have excellent taste
Itsjoeyourbro Thanks
Man, a video with people who actually like good games!
It's surreal.
Wow. Just wow. 100% buying this game now if not for any other reason than to support these guys.
I love that you guys actually show you guys working on it and its really cool to see stuff like that
Play the demo it's an incredible game and another gem for Nintendo Switch
forishellas which story in the demo did you like best? The dancing girls story really driven me in.
Almighty Keys I think it really depends on what you’re looking for in an RPG. Primrose’s campaign seems to be more story focused, while Olberic has a bigger focus on combat. I feel that this was a brilliant decision on their part, as this means that anyone can find some enjoyment out of this, whether you care more for a thrilling story, or if you only care about beating some bad guys.
THANK YOU SQUARE
Will this be playable on the Nintendo Labo???
What about the newly announced Nintendo Color Pencils? (Source in my chnnel)
MingforPM no it won't be labo
THIS ! THIS IS THE WAY TO MAKE A GAME !!!
I’m so excited for this
SUPAHWiiUfan1 I just subscibed your youtube channel, would you Subscibe back?
So far, until new announcements come up, this is the only 2018 game I want. I'm serious.
Loved it, can't wait for the full version! Thanks for your hard work
Great video! I wasn't really planning to get this game before, but seeing this interaction with the community gives me more faith in them and now I'm considering buying it.
GREAT WORK!! Congratulations, the Game looks perfect and It will be an amazing experience for sure :D
Looks like a lot of care was put into this game, especially since they're listening this much to the people who played the demo.
Welp, I'm buying this game
Glad that I am part of this feedback. And these improvements are very welcome! Can´t wait for more news.
Very exciting to see the development and the effort put in by the team!
Been a long time since I've been this excited for a game but this one blew me away. Everything about it i loved. I really hope it is 2018 and i also hope its not a Dec or Nov 2018 release haha i know im being impatient but man its just so good.
Riki Adams i feel you man, can't get enough of the demo
hoping for May or June. Damn, I really can't wait for this game.
nice! Unreal Engine 4
Thank you for listening and building a game fans love! Personally I couldn’t get into it. But I’m glad others did!
Great video guys! I can't wait to see the finished product!
Now implement the ability / OPTION to speed up battles and grant an encounter rate slider including turning it off completely! Just like in Bravely Default / Second!
no
That definitely won’t happen
maybe... "for the sequel"?
Clicks at the speed of light
I just found out about this, and it's looking amazing. Keep up the great work guys!
THANK YOU! I was waiting for an update on this. Hopefully the game comes out soon.
Cannot wait for this game!!
This game will sell really well.
I love you guys! Keep up the amazing work and thank you so much for actually taking the fans into consideration.
The recognition for our feedback was icing on the cake as well :)
Awesome, can't wait! Great job, guys.
I cannot wait
*_Working title_*
You are very welcome! The demo was fantastic, I loved it a lot and can't wait for the full game.
Thank you very much for taking our comments seriously! The demo showed a lot of promise and I’m very excited about the full product. I want this to be a success, both for my enjoyment and for your benefit. Please continue to work hard and you will find me online on launch day to download this game.
Can’t wait!
Neat, can't wait for the full game this year!
Demo was WOOMY!
I'm giving the demo a NGYES.
This makes me happy.
Also, I'd love to do another survey on a future build if that is possible. I'm sure a lot of other people would as well.
I'm very impressed by the passion and response put in from the feedback. It's great that they listened to us and are updating us on the changes made. More games should be done like this in my opinion.
THIS is how you respond to a demo
Hope this gets a physical release
this is a full rpg it's not some eshop shovelware so of course it's getting a 60 dollar physical release
Really like these kind of videos, very informative and exciting :)
Also the music in this video made me so pumped to play the game, that battle music at the end made me especially nostalgic for "traditional" squaresoft/enix jrpgs
