I'm glad they finally revealed how the story would work. I was kinda intrigued if you would have to START as the character whose story you wished to do. Knowing now that you could do all of them in one playthrough is nice to know because as much as this game looks amazing and the demo was awesome, I REALLY didn't want to have to play it 8 times over to get all the stories (Unless they all led to completely different endings)
TheAnimatedJester From what I can tell, it'll work like the demo. For the character you pick at the start, you get their back story and their basic tutorial fights. Then you meet the others as you travel at certain points in the story and they can join your party.
As far as the endings go, I'd be fine if they corresponded to the starting character, because it would give the game that much more replay value.

Since the game has good & bad social behaviour, I would have liked some sort of limitation to what you could do on any single playthrough. What would have been neat is that you could only collect four characters on the first playthrough and then on NG+ you would collect the other four. So min-maxers could focus on the best four to unlock. Also I hope that your initial character choices *matters* because I would like to RP somewhat in my play choices.
Agreed. I hope you at least gain something for doing the back stories because it seems a bit shallow otherwise. Would have preferred our choice of who we picked mattering more.

Big Brother is Gaming Hopefully not at full price. Looks like an indie by Square.
It is probably going to be around $40.00, seeing that it is akin to the likes of the games that Tokyo RPG Factory delivered with *I Am Setsuna* and *Lost Sphear* , as they are both fairly old-school style games for the current generation. Plus, with the ability to choose eight different characters, and a deep, involving battle system and the length of the game looks to be traditional JRPG fare, I think the retail price would be within the budget for those who are interested in picking this up.
Seems to be 60$. It is on Amazon, anyway.

I’m really excited to play this game. It looks like it has a lot of depth and thought put into the storytelling. Plus, I love the pixel art combined with the 3d backgrounds. It reminds me of a pop up book.

Olberic is fourth while the first E in traveler is fifth, and it wouldn't be fun if they were in a random order. But maybe it can work depending on the chapter they're first fought in? I don't think the stories will be sincronized in that regard

Everybody NEEDS to buy/pre-order Octopath Traveler and also play the demo if you still haven't yet. Silicon Studio and Square Enix are doing a great job developing this game. Hopefully more JRPGs and Nintendo RPG franchises are developed in this style and gameplay in the future.

Release date is connected to a business stategy. Whereas July and December are lucrative month to put out a game, other month are less beneficial, like February or March

This game looks so, damn, amazing. Got me crying over here, never thought I'd see another game like FFVI or Chrono Trigger again, and now we have this.
Every time I see something new about this game, I get more and more intrigued. When they first announced, I thought it looked cool but didn't have plans to get it, since JRPGs tend to not really be my thing (I play video games to have fun, not micromanage everything). Now though? I have every intention to pick this bad boy up! I can't wait to finally get to play the full game for myself! :D
BroadwayBrittany I play rpgs mainly for the story. In terms of “micromanagement” I tend to stick with what works until I hit a brick wall, then spend a couple hours grinding until I’m overlevelled and then continue.
It’s a slow process, but it works for me!
LOZFFVII I'm not saying that I'm not good at (J)RPGs; I can play them competently enough. I just prefer my games to have a faster pace. I love a good story, but if it's at the cost of fun gameplay, then no thank you, I'll pass.

I love Primrose's story but Cyrus has my favorite path action and ability and we still don't know what his story is so I don't know.

They look better than anything that any 32 bit or less console could produce so they definitely do NOT look like gameboy graphics which were monochromatic and 8 bit.

It seems Primrose and Ophelia are opposites to each other in more ways than one. Primrose primarily uses dark Magic and buffs whereas Ophelia primarily uses Light Magic and Healing. Both of course summoning partners to battle.
Alfyn and Cyrus seems to be opposites of each other as well since they also have similar path actions. Question is which one is Noble and which one is Rogue. If I had to guess, I would say that Alfyn is Noble since according to the trailer, he is an Apothecary who loves to help people in need while Cyrus could secretly be Rogue while appearing to be “Noble”. Or...what if it’s the other way around to where you think Alfyn is curing the sick along his journey with his medicine but way later in the game you discover that he has been actually poisoning people (including your party)? Either way, this could be very interesting to see actually. 🤔
Windu Waika Cyrus is rogue. You can see at a point in the video that Scrutinize can fail. Also, Scrutinize is a negative word.

flaminyawn When the demo dropped, I started with Olberic. Which is a shame in some ways because his story seemed pretty generic to me (a mass consumer of media)... and put me off for few days...
I knew they could build upon his story, and his character, but I wasn't really invested yet...
The art style is obviously the first drawing factor, but at the time, Olberic really just left me unsatisfied...
It wasn't until I played Primroses story that I really felt like the game clicked with me. Ever since then, I've been patiently waiting to try my hand at playing the full game.
It's just such an interesting game concept, and just... just... good you know!?

Its cool that you can play all eight character stories in one save but unless their is difficulty scaling you will become grossly overpowered when trying to complete numerous character stories at once.

This is shaping up to be the best RPG in recent times.
Dear god this game just keeps looking better+better, and the way this game was promoted (segment trailers giving you insight into what the game+characters+mechanics are all about in interesting montages with entertaining narration) is VERY,VERY good!
Other games/publishers/DEV teams should take note of the way in which this game is releasing, and it should become a standard for how games are SUPPOSED to launch.
Of course, this is ON TOP of one of the best communication/feedback processes I've ever seen for a game.
Putting out DEMO of the game, far beforehand, to give the potential audience a 'taste' of what the game is all about, with confidence in the games quality+overall experience, and to then take all the feedback from those players who tried out the 'Demo' and FURTHER IMPROVE the game before it's eventual launch date and focus in even more on the games overall Quality as a finished title. Complete with direct video communication about what changes will be made after going over and honing in on the given feedback by the passionate DEV team behind the game are Stellar Pro-gamer+Pro-customer moves!
I have a feeling that this game will go on to sell like crazy because of all this, and from what I've seen thus far, the game has nothing but POSITIVE feedback+excited anticipation behind it, due to the way in which it's pre-launch logistics were flawlessly handled, and the game+Devs deserve it all for such careful consideration+effort shown towards their MANY future fans/customers!

right now im just massively looking forward to E3 for smash footage, but beyond that, i am so beyond hyped for this game. the beautiful art direction, the fantastic soundtrack, delightful characters and seemingly deep stories all make me feel like this game is gonna be near perfect. and its made by the team behind 2 of my favourite jrpgs of all time, how could i want anything more? :D

This looks really fun but can we get a fix for the vertical screen tearing on characters during battle? I found this very off putting during the demo and hard to look at and enjoy.
I love that you can combine guide and charm, because it means that, even with noble and rogue versions of abilities (ie, purchase vs steal) there may still reason to use both even if you have the Lv/currency to do either. I wonder what reasons there might be for the other abilities. For example, can you combine scrutinize with inquire?
You can even capture beasts during your journey!? Nintendo is doing a damn good job with this game.

I don't like Pokémon, but I played it because I love traveling games. Skyrim is another good alternative but since it's not about the journey, it wasn't really fulfilling.

This is such a brilliant conceit, the freedom to follow (or not follow) any character's story in whatever order you want... You could play this game a hundred times and go about it in a completely different way each time. It's just fascinating.
