    I've heard that the CDF drum in the 10R80 transmission tends to have problems with a slipping collar.
    I had the cam phase rattle on my old truck with the 3.5. Luckily was fixed under warranty.
    Now have a 2.7 Eco and I like it a lot. I miss the power of the 3.5 when towing but the 2.7 seems like a more reliable motor, better on fuel and still moves the truck really well.

    This is why I’m getting ready to do a pan drop, filter replacement and fluid refill on my 2019 F-150 with the 10R80. The transmission has been great for me, but I’m gonna service it just to hopefully keep it running smoothly. Several Ford Master Techs on CZcams strongly advise servicing the 10R80’s every 30K-60K miles, even though Ford doesn’t recommend it until 150K miles.

    Thanks for the video. My 2020 Ford Expedition Max with 33k miles was doing the same thing, except it was a more violent type of transition than in your video. Well, the transmission needs to be completely rebuilt. Ford won't replace it, but they will have a technician rebuild it which I am told will take "weeks". I had two different Ford Transit Connect fail on me at my job, the third one sooner failed on my coworker. The transmission will flutter, then starts to shift hard. I assume these transmissions get stuck in 3rd gear. Because you have to floor the gas pedal for about a minute to start moving forward, but good luck backing up in reverse.

When I purchased it, I purchased it with a warranty. I also had the Cam phasers. Serviced Per the Maintenance bulletin. I've always. Had my vehicle maintained at the dealership. • @gstrick03
    @gstrick03 Před rokem +3

    I had a very similar problem with my transmission in my 2017 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and 10 speed. I bought the truck used with roughly 64,000 miles on it and it was great for the first two months but then I noticed a harsh down shift going from 4th to 3rd when coming to a stop. Brought it to a ford dealership that was close to my dads work. They said I needed a new valve body. So they put one in and reset the adaptive learn(most likely the cause of the harsh down shift). it seemed to fix it. Around 1-2 months goes by and my transmission starts to try to shift from 10th to 1st gear any time I get on the interstate or above 70 mph and it would randomly shift through gears 6,7,8,9 at that same speed and limit the max gear to gear number 9 and it would also rise to temperatures of 210-222 degrees. One time it did attempt to shift from 10th to 1st at 70 mph and it made a horrible clunk and the little wrench came up on my screen. It wasn’t successful in the shift because my engine was not harmed but transmission was toast. so I took it back to the dealership that put the valve body in and they said I had frictional damage in my transmission. So they put another transmission in it. And 3 months later it continues to do the same exact thing. And like I said it would only do it on the interstate. I could drive under 65 mph anytime I wanted to. I’ve been battling this for over a year now. In the last 4-5 months it started busting the pan of the transmission along side the all the other issues. And now my chaotic shifts started happening at regular speeds. So this time I took it to a ford dealership with a very reputable master transmission tech and they’re going to tear down the transmission to find the problem. My situation is similar to yours but like I said I didn’t start having problems with it until the dealership installed a valve body in it. I actually took it to the mountains with no problems and even did a lot of interstate driving with it before they put the valve body in. But If you figure out anything on yours please reply to me and if my dealership gets to me with a solution before yours does then I will do the same for you.

      Been having the same 4 to 3 downshift clunk since purchasing my 2017 f150 @ 48k miles. Also when flooring it on the highway to get around a semi in a one lane road, it clunked, lost all power, and then resumed power with no check engine lights. It makes you question how durable this transmission will be in the long run. And after reading your post it makes me question going down the rabbit hole of repairs. Our local ford dealership has a back log of service appointments so large that the dealership wont even schedule a service appointment with you. Only a waiting list is available to schedule an appointment. Wonder if the transmission will grenade before they give me a call.

      @manuelbarrios8941 Před 5 měsíci

      Friend, exactly the same thing happens to me but the temperature rises to 230 f, my question for you, can I solve the temperature problem? Of the 4 mechanics who have seen my car, they tell me that I have to change the selenoid. They give me the code in the box for P07e6-00, and also the p0430 catalytic converter, the changes in the transmission sometimes take longer to change. Everything when I start the car between 20 and 40 miles I have to go slow because if not it doesn't change, if I go slow it changes and after passing 40 miles per hour it moves better but not perfect.

    My 2018 F150 special edition does the same shifting stupidness, also started right at 70K/50000 miles. When you take a left hand turn and lose all power in the opposing lane for a few seconds as the truck "thinks" about what to do is both scary and a very real safety issue. When your at a red light and it "thinks" it should be 7th gear you really annoy the drivers behind you when you need to take three seconds to throttle it up enough for it to finally clunk back into first, then clunk again into 3rd once you start rolling. I have replaced the valve body as the dealer recommended to no avail. I don't drive hard, I'm a Dad, not a younger bro.

    55 years rebuilding transmissions. 10 speed is a GOOD transmission. There are 2 or 3 mechanical problems that have been overcome. Extended warranty won't help you at all on the trans. Real problem is the software that operates it. Over 15 000,000 lines of computer info to operate the vehicle. Phasers are updated. Change oil regularly! Please stop calling it a bad trans. We like them! Cobb trans programmers will sell you a box to flash and reset your computer. Two minute job. Some day Ford/GM will get software complex enough for long term continuous operation.

    • @bjornegan6421
      @bjornegan6421 Před 8 dny

      there's a reason there's a class action lawsuit for this transmission. in most of these reports of issues, there's mechanical damage and no software can repair that. to add, the extended warranty is helping the people as it is replacing destroyed transmissions, but only for them to fail again. if you read other comments, you'll see people who have had the program reset only for the transmission to die. if the software is all that is causing the issues, it is still a terrible design as the software is part of it. what are the mechanical problems that have been overcome? may i please ask for you to explain why you made such a claim that it is a good transmission, such as mileage numbers without issues, what can be done to prevent it, what to do if someone has one, etc?

    • @onetransmission7871
      @onetransmission7871 Před 8 dny

      @bjornegan6421
      I'm gonna bet you've never rebuilt a transmission. Class action lawsuit is for money. If the software downshifts into 1st gear at 60 mph you're gonna have internal damage. Basic design is very good overall. Just a few aftermarket mods will fix it. One drum, one piston, and a cup plug in the output shaft fix most of them unless the computer blew it up. Few other items and all high mileage aluminum valve bodies are subject to wear. We have tooling to repair and oversize valves. Lots of good people read this stuff wanting to learn but no mechanics to write these articles. Hydramatic came out in Oldsmobile in 1938 and they had problems. Every trans since then always has problems the first several years till we get it figured out but we've fixed every one of them.
