    Hey guys, just wanted to give you guys a heads up on something. When buying a trans filter for your truck, make SURE you get the right one. There's some misinformation online with getting the right motorcraft part. One filter has ONE outlet, and the other filter has TWO outlets. Make sure you're getting the right one. They shipped me a filter with one outlet when the filter on my truck needs two outlets.

      @@calebdavenport6427 it’ll go into the transmission dipstick hole, or fill hole. You’ll have to go under the truck on the passenger side in order to find the dipstick, I’ll be under a cap with a hex head on it, the size of that hex head is 3/4”. Then once you get that off, you’ll squeeze the shudderfix into the dipstick hole

      I commented two weeks and I finally confirmed I have a torque converter lockout shudder on my 2013 Ford Edge SEL with 78,100 miles. After extensive reading I've found, due to the "green-energy-movement-mumbo-jumbo", that these newer vehicles are manufactured to use a lower viscosity fluid, namely the Mercon LV transmission fluid in these ford transmission applications. Lower viscosity fluid does not provide the protection higher viscosity fluid offers so higher replacement intervals are needed to maintain protection. I've found that intervals between 30k-50k miles seems to be ideal. I was told I needed to have my transmission rebuilt, but the transmission shop NEVER mentioned the fluid being the potential issue. My shudder was also 100% eliminated after using 1 2oz tube of Lubegard's Instant Shudder Fixx & Lucas Oil Products Transmission Conditioner. My shudder was instantly eliminated. Going to get my fluid changed very soon! I'll repost when I 100% know if my issue was the same as yours! Thanks for the video!

    Thank you for sending me the message about my comment on your video. I took your info and got the mechanic to watch the scan tool readouts on the torque converter. AND I BET YOU CAN'T GUESS WHAT HE FOUND! LOL! It was slipping just like in your video! And it showed on his scan. So I would say to anyone having this issue, Don't bother just leaving your vehicle vehicle and HOPING, they can replicate the issue! Make them ride with you! And avoid the hassle and extra days off work. I had him in the truck until the transmission started warming up and the issue raised it's ugly head. And he was able to record each event. That way my warranty covers it. Thanks again for your video!!!

    I was towing about 6,000 pounds this weekend and was noticing a shudder at 2050-2100 rpm in 6th gear. At first if a hill was coming up I would manually drop to 5th and it would go away. After about 300 miles it’s now at the point of doing it between 1500 and 2500 rpm and in 5th and 6th gears. I unhooked and under moderate/heavy acceleration I could hear a clicking and had a rough idea it was the transmission.
    Thank you for the video and making my search for the problem easy. It’s headed in for cam phasers this week, so I’ll add that to the list of things to bring up.

    I wish I would have found this sooner, my 17 5.0 F150 has been doing this since the day I bought it about a year ago with 33k miles on it. Since it is still under warranty I have had it to the dealer 4 times in the last year and gotten nowhere...... They just kept telling me there was no codes and to keep driving it. I have changed the plugs and coils just to rule those out and no change. It had gotten too unbearable to drive and my factory warranty is up in September so I took it to the dealer and handed them the keys and said I wasn't taking it back until they figured it out. After 3 weeks in the shop they called and said its the torque converted. Took a quick google search to find all sorts of people with the same issue. Thanks for posting this, I have hope it'll finally be fixed.

    well, after nearly 8 months of fighting this issue, I am SOO happy I found this video!! Thank you so much for posting. It has been driving me absolutely crazy, and it is the exact same thing you described. A little shudder around 1500rpms and would just slightly jump a few hundred rpms right as the shudder began. I was so positive that it was a misfire or something with the engine only because the shudder happened with the weird rpm spike, did not think the trasnmission would do that. I have a 2011 with the 3.5L and after watching/listening to your video, I am 99% positive this is my issue. Thank you for fixing my massive headache haha!

    Did you ever know that you're my heee-ro?!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Thank you for this info! I have a 2016 F150 4x4 with a 5.0 and that shudder was driving me nuts! I was just getting ready to pull the driveshaft and get it balanced so you saved me the hassle and the extra money it would have cost me. I have to say that I took a different route to address this, rather than add a friction modifier, I decided to flush the trans fluid hoping the new, clean fluid would have the same affect. I'm glad to say the shudder is 98% gone. A local oil change shop just flushed the trans this morning and I noticed an immediate improvement. I was still able to detect a very small shudder driving home but it only happened once and is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Someone else might not have noticed it but after driving the truck with it shuddering for a while, I notice the smallest vibration. I might add the modifier as well for giggles. I ran across another CZcams video where the guy said the only way to truly fix the issue is to replace the torque converter but unless the clutches in the torque converter are actually shot, that might not be the case. It could just be the worn out and dirty fluid that is causing the pressure deviations. After all, when you replace the torque converter you're also replacing the fluid. Time will tell. If it starts shuddering again, then I will have to go the torque converter route but for now I have my early Christmas present!! Thanks again dude!!

    Chase, you are a life saver! I have a 2015 F150 Platinum, and I thought my transmission was shot. I picked this truck up a couple of years ago and put 20k on it so far (103k total). I did a little research before I called the auto experts, and I found your video. You described exactly my issue. I asked a local lube shop if they would do a transmission fluid flush, and they asked me why. I told them that I had a transmission shudder, and I had no evidence it was never serviced before I got the truck. They told me that a transmission flush wouldn’t fix it and acted like doing it would actually harm my vehicle. I have never heard of a shop turning down work, but ok. Today, I picked up the LubeGard Shutter Fix and put it in the transmission myself. The fluid looked brown on the dip stick, so I am confident that it was never changed. Once I finished, I buttoned everything back up and took it for a spin. I did some in town driving (where the shifts were rough and sluggish before) and some highway miles (where the shudder was the worst). NOTHING! It was smooth as butter! I can’t believe it. I will have to buy the filter and transmission fluid to do this job myself now that I know what the issue is. Huge thanks to you, Chase!

So I appreciate you sharing your experience as I suspect torque converter issue but I was going to dive into fuel delivery diagnostics first but know I think I will do Trans fluid flush and treatment with the additive you linked. Had this exact issue with my '16 3.5 eb F150 as well, and like you said...I ended up taking it to Ford, and had them do a full transmission fluid 'flush' and refill, and I've never had the issue return! I had no codes either...albeit now it's a going into 'limp mode' so now I'll be changing out my throttle body tomorrow. I've got 133K on the truck, so I don't mind throwing a few $$ on getting these parts new again. I bought the truck two years ago which had 126K then, so I don't put a lot of miles on the truck generally, but overall it runs great. It had a full tune up just prior to me buying it, so I've only been doing my own oil changes every 5K so far, and I got full records of everything done to the truck since new (got at the dealer it was originally sold from, as the previous owner took it there for maintenance) and the only thing to date that's been done, is one new exhaust manifold, other than maintenance & tires. Love the truck, and hoping the new throttle body fixes this 'limp mode' issue, albeit it hasn't given me a code, it was the next best thing to change, since others have had similar issues. I picked up a code reader for my tool box, and I should mention, after taking it to the dealer for this limp mode, they reprogrammed the PCM for $500. and it's still gone into limp mode 4 times since that Ford service, so I'll find it on my own.

Got a dealer quote for TC around $2400. That’s IF they determine that to be the cause. I’ve checked around independent shops and they’re around 1700-2000 for TC but same qualification…may need full rebuild. Saw the Ford Tech (FlyingWrenches) on CZcams describe this also and he said it usually does not need a rebuild just the TC and that Shudder Stop was effective but temporary.
    I took to an independent shop that had been recommended by 3 different shops as fair/expert tranny place. They want $5k for a full rebuild!! Their description sounds alot like what you said: “TC engaging at every shift/losing pressure throughout unit.”
    I can get a full flush/filter done for $375 and add the ShudderStop. That’s what I’m leaning toward first. I’d be ok with paying 1700-2000 for TC alone but $5k for a full rebuild from an independent shop (however well regarded) just seems way steep to me. I have a pretty entry level code scanner so don’t think I can check the pressure so will give Shudder a try and see how it goes. How long has that remedy been working for you now? Months? Thanks

      One thing that helped me diagnose my issue alot to was watching the tac with the gear indicator. The TCC will engage about halfway through 3rd gear, you can feel it or hear it, it almost seems like the truck shifts to 4th but if you watch the gear indicator you'll be in 3rd still. Watch the gear indicator with the tac, and if your vibration starts to happen when, or after the TCC has been engaged (halfway through 3rd gear) you know you're dealing with a Converter clutch issue.
      Also with the lube guard, I set mine in warm water for about 5 minutes before putting it in, it just made it flow out of the tube better since it's cold in the winters where I'm at, just made it easier to put in. Good luck!

    Listen, I had three times failed coil packs, and prior to my downshift to first recall, which reset the transmission module but they also reset the behavior of the OBD two system and misfires would not stick an engine light.
    It took me 30 miles before I was willing to go on the highway at the top of fourth gear and lean on that gas.
    Everything and every single symptom pointed to torque converter shudder.
    I even added the 2 ounces, but when I laid my transmission fluid on a white napkin, it was as pink as baby skin….. That is when I went for a ride and I went along way until 200 Fahrenheit was reached for the transmission fluid temperature and then I leaned on it on the highway after I hit fourth gear because I still felt the shudder… after Ellen on that fuel gas paddle at the top end of 3500 RPM and fourth gear is when I forced the check engine light to start flashing…. But this is the difference. This is also the negligence of Ford after the recall for the downshift to first in the reset of the transmission control module power control module, and the OBD two behavior. The check engine light did not sensing misfire cylinder five. When I got back, zero engine light on I connected the reader and it read misfire cylinder 5. 0305 whatever the number is.. The majority of people complaining about downshift shudder-- get to 60+ mph in fourth -- lean on gas like a race truck-- hit 3500rpm. It will trigger and hold it there as it isn’t severe at that rpm for a moment. Suddenly it is ALLOWED TO TRIP P030x -- flash check engine light and then once it isn’t sensed it shuts the mf light off !!!!!! This is negligence all day long. I read codes after and the code is there yet NO ENGINE LIGHT ON. This is seriously not good. Misfire sensed and then blind someone will drop the hammer and stall or die.
    I had the TCM recall already-- this is what caused this behavior. Completely conscious negligence -- FORD is out of their minds.

    I bought a 2013 Ford Edge SEL, that has the 3.5l naturally aspirated ecoboost engine. I just turned 78,000 miles and I am attempting to diagnose the causation of my vehicle's particular symptoms. My plugs are particularly fouled, and are the second set of plugs in my vehicle. Between 30-50 mph my car hesitates and stutters/shutters terribly. The fact that the hesitation/stutter/shutter is worse at that speed is highly indicative of a transmission issue. My 2008 Kia Rondo LXV6 has 214,520 miles and runs perfectly. I had a 1997 Ford Taurus GL V6 I sold with 203,500 miles and none of the issues I am having now did I have with either of the above named vehicles. Neither of those 200,000 plus vehicles lost oil, or any fluid, so it is quite a shame that my Ford Edge SEL is so poorly built.

    2015 F150 EcoBoost; I've experienced a shudder that's very similar in feel to what you & others have described. But in my case, it's noticeable at speeds below 45 & it's intermittent. Sometimes it's constant for 30+ seconds. Other times it goes away just as quickly as it starts, lasting less than a few seconds. First time I noticed it was about 20k miles ago when I had about 70k on the truck. Took the truck into the Ford dealership where I bought it & they replaced the torque converter under the extended warranty & I also paid to have the plugs replaced. The problem seemed to go away for about 3 months (during the summer months of Wisconsin). But it's been back again since September. Unfortunately, I can't recreate on demand the pattern at which it happens to be able to diagnose the problem. Has anyone experienced a loss of power when the shudder is apparent or reduced gas mileage? I'm not opposed to trying the LubeGard Shudder Fix unless it just masks a bigger problem. Suggestions?

    • @ChaseBuiltBikes
      @ChaseBuiltBikes  Před rokem +1

      Hey sorry for the late response, with a reduce in power, and a reduce in gas mileage, I’m thinking more engine related vs transmission related. If you have access to a scan tool, it would be a good idea to check into the “mode 6” option of the scan tools, this will give you information on each cylinder, and the misfire count for the cylinders. That would give you a good indication of each cylinder and be easy to track down if you’re experiencing a miss. A common issue on the older ecoboosts was that oil would collect in the intercooler, and eventually it would get into the intake causing a intermittent misfire, some solved this with a catch can, others solved it by drilling a tiny seep hole into the bottom hose nipple of the intercooler. Also, being it happens on the cooler months of the year, it could be moisture in the intercooler that isn’t able to burn off quite as fast since the engine takes longer to reach operating temperature.
      It could be a number of things causing your issue. A converter shudder is generally very easy to recreate, and will happen nearly every time you drive the vehicle. Hope this helps!

    • @ChaseBuiltBikes
      @ChaseBuiltBikes  Před 3 lety +3

      It depends on when your transmission was last serviced/ mileage. Most times, just a fluid change will fix the issue. If you'd like to get ALL the old fluid out, including the fluid in the converter the only way to do that is with a flush. Just be careful if you do a flush since it's known to cause issues on high milage transmissions. (Removes the "grit" from wear that helps with friction) and it all depends on how you or the shop removes the trans to replace the converter. You'll have to buy trans fluid either way because the converter needs to be filled a certain amount before installation. If you decide to drain the pan when you remove the trans, you'll have to buy all the fluid again, but if you don't drain the pan, you'll still have to buy some fluid to put into the converter.

      You’re welcome! And I was not no. Mine would only happen about halfway through 3rd gear after the TCC solenoid activated.

    So you just squeezed the shudder fix directly in the transmission dipstick fill? Also Did u do it when tranny was cold or hot? I just started having what seems to be same thing about a week ago. Got a 2016 3.5 ecoboost with 93k. I’m going to go buy the quick fix tube tomorrow because it’s very annoying with the shutter. Thanks for the video

      Yeah, you squeeze it right into the dipstick fill. I did it when the trans was hot, I also set the lubeguard in some warm water beforehand to heat that up aswell. It thins it out and makes it easier to squeeze.

    What fluid did you use and brand filter I’m having this problem in my 15 platinum f-150

      I used motorcraft Mercon LV and a motorcraft filter. Do you have the 6spd transmission?

    How did you go about getting the shudder fix in? Before i attempt it from trying to squeeze it in the hole directly laying on the ground and making a mess.

    • @ChaseBuiltBikes
      @ChaseBuiltBikes  Před 2 lety

      It comes in a real small tube, so it’s super easy to take the dipstick out of the top of the trans, and you can squeeze it right into the dipstick hole

    I just bought my truck. 2015 XLT 3.5 and includes for no extra fee, shudder. Also I got misfires. So replaced all coils and plugs.
    Question on the plugs, I checked the gap and the book says .32 but these gapped at like, .38 or higher?? I left em alone for now, got rid my misfire codes, but the shudder is still there. So I guess I need to pull the pan and change the filter on that transmission then add the anti foam..I mean shudder stop additive? Is this about right? Thx for the heads up in these damn things.

      My plugs are gapped at .35 and running good. Yeah what I did is drop the pan, drain out the fluid in the pan, new filter, then pumped about 6-7 qts of new fluid in and it removed my shudder.

    i have a 2015 ford focus and it shudders like crazy when accelerating from low speeds. I'm thinking of putting the lubegard in to see if it fixes it, could it cause problems if it's not a torque convertor problem?

    • @ChaseBuiltBikes
      @ChaseBuiltBikes  Před 2 lety +1

      It won’t cause any issues adding it in if it’s not shuddering.

    What model scanner are you using to see the pressures?

    Kind of a dumb question but how do I add the shudder fix to the trans? I can’t seem to find any dipstick or cap in engine bay on my 2015 2.7.

      @ChaseBuiltBikes  Před 11 měsíci +1

      There is no conventional dipstick on these transmissions. If you go underneath your truck, on the passenger side, the fill cap and dipstick will be located on the passenger side of the transmission, about mid trans, on top of a ledge on the side of the trans. You’ll see it there, it’s almost lined up with the catalytic converter. You’ll need a 19mm or 3/4” wrench to remove the plug. Once you got that out you’ll have a small plastic dipstick that will come out, once you have that out you can add the shudder fix through that dipstick hole. Hope this helps!

    Mine started shuttering to the point where I get the check engine light to start flashing then goes away, scanned it and it’s throwing a code, I have a 2015 3.5 with 160k miles on it. Code says it’s a transmission sensor should I still top it off?

      Update! Turned out to be cylinder 4 was misfiring and that’s what was causing my “shudder” 😅 $100 fix🙌🏼
