  • Steam cleaning your oven is easier and as efficient as self cleaning your oven. Good alternative. With the steam clean, it runs only 30 minutes vs. the (4) hours the self cleaning option will take. At Sherman's, we have the automatic lowest pricing on all appliances!

Use distilled water to avoid leaving a mineral deposit.

Regarding my last comment, if you opt not to use the steam cleaning feature/button, and just add water and turn the oven on and select the time yourself, I would not set the temp higher than 300 degrees. And even at that, make sure you wait till the oven is cool enough to begin wiping down. 350 degrees was a little too hot.

I just tried using the "Steam" Cleaning option on our oven, but it didn't work well and I'm trying it again. It didn't created enough steam. The problem seems to be that the default temperature, when you activate the steam cleaning feature, may not be hot enough to generate enough steam. I believe the default temp is 250 degrees. For all intents and purposes, it seems like you don't really need to use the steam cleaning feature; you can just add the water as directed, at the base where it probably states "add water," and turn the oven on. As far as I can tell, the steam cleaning feature just regulates the temperature and time of the cleaning. But if you opt not to use the steam cleaning feature, and simply pour the water on the oven plate/base and turn the oven on, be careful what temp you set it at since it will be hotter upon cleaning. I alternated my temp between 300 - 350 degrees.

I'm glad. Just be careful with the oven getting a little hotter than the steam cleaning's setting. Based on my experience, I wouldn't wait too long between cleanings. Good luck! @@RhondaGaines

I take the oven racks out on any cleaning feature for fear of ruining them. I ruined mine before in a previous oven and they are not cheap to replace.

So for ovens that don't have a 'steam clean' button I suppose you can just put a bowl of water in there and switch on the button called 'oven'.

Would 50/50 vinegar and water be even more effective in the oven?
This is how I clean my microwave.. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (cup of 50/50 water and vinegar, and turn it on)

Hi Kathleen! Great question- Cleaning the inside of your oven door can be a bit more challenging. After all, the grease you’ll be tackling has literally been baking on the glass for weeks, months, or maybe even years. You'll need water, 1/2 cup of baking soda, a bowl, microfiber cloths, and a razor blade (optional).
      1. Open the door and wipe off any loose bits of grime with a damp microfiber cloth.
      2. Pour the baking soda in the bowl.
      3. Slowly add water to the baking soda to make a paste. It should be about the consistency of shaving cream.
      4. Spread the paste on the inside of the oven window.
      5. Let this sit for around 15 to 20 minutes.
      6. Use a damp clean microfiber cloth and wipe the paste away.
      7. If any stuck-on gunk remains, use the razor blade to gently scrape it away. Make certain to use the flat edge and not the corner so that you don’t scratch your glass.
      8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 as needed.
9.Use a dry microfiber cloth to buff out any streaks in the glass.
      Hope this helps!

So for the additional money I get to press a preset temperature button? Why not just pour the water in the oven, set yor own temperature, and with some ovens just set the oven timer? Without a built in oven timer, set you kitchen timer or your mobile phone. Seems like an expensive gimmic unless I am missing something. Steam has been used to clean microwave ovens since they were first called radar ranges.
