Improve your shooting with cheap targets

- We think we need more gear, more stuff and more gadgets. There is nothing wrong with stuff, but it is no substitute for good practices and training.
I knew some great carpenters who built the most amazing homes with a small tool collection. They knew how to use those tools well.
1. Define the goal.
2. Is the training I'm doing taking me closer or farther from that goal?
3. Spend more time training and less time shopping for stuff.
4. Choose a defined standard such as a target and work with it until you have consistency. The printer paper and post it notes are standards.
5. After accuracy is obtained, you can add variable such as movement, multiple shots, time standards, etc. I suggest you add one at a time.

I appreciate the way you articulate training sessions.
I appreciate you
One of my favorites to use is the little cardboard separators from ammunition boxes - they are consistent in size and usually readily available every time I'm at the range.
Hell yeah...
Nice
I improved my handgun performance by following your advice. Bought a ream of printer paper. Used one sheet as a torso target and half of another for an eye box target. Used spray adhesive to attach to cardboard (sliced up Amazon boxes). At the rate I shoot this setup lasted over a year.
Hey Mick. Best trainer ever. And he’s funny too .Take a class with him.
I love your lessons, Carry Trainer. No nonsense for every person.
Like that word. "Repeatable" reminds me my Jobs in pharmaceutical manufacturing world. Greetings from Puerto Rico!
Mick, I enjoy your content very much. I'm trying to learn as much as I can from you. You are very knowledgeable sir. Thank you for all you do
Glad to hear it. I hope to meet you on the range.
Be well my good sir. Thank you for your unwavering contribution and inspiration. You inspire me to be a better person and it’s very much appreciated.
Great video … thank you. (Yuma, Arizona & Middle Tennessee). 👍😎🇺🇸
Love it!!!!!! I use tons of sticky notes as targets that I buy from the dollar store !!!! Can't wait to see ya in July Mikey!!!!
Great presentation the printer paper and post it notes are a cheaper targets but they work extremely well
Great knowledge. When you hit well at 5 meters then go to 7 then 10 and so on. I always start far back now cause i forget i need to work on marksmanship. Always trying to work on proficiency marksmanship and observation.
My personal favorite is the Jack Wilson Drill. Take a deck of playing cards or stack of 3x5 index cards, staple it to the t zone of any silhouette target. Go back 15 yards and try to get 2 shots on the card in under 2 seconds.
The point of the drill is twofold: 1) Use whatever you got. 2) Nobody can just do it. You need to work your way up, if that means starting at 5 yards and working your way up to 10 then 15? So be it.
I saw that drill a lot but it never had a name, but after 2019 it's now The Jack Wilson Drill because that demonstrated the need for that level of precision.
I been cutting up accumulated pizza boxes and using marker for the A zones.
I like the 8x11 paper and posted notes.
Your shooting skill says a lot.
Your video addressing concerns of solvents and cleaning chemicals on skin to be avoided wasuch appreciated.
I'm glad you got some value.
I got a posterbord from dollar tree and used colored duct tape squares. Focus on one square at a time
Great video sir! And I can truly dig what you’re saying!
Thanks, Mick. Still energized, and a tad sore 😎, from the Vegas training classes. After years of watching and absorbing your generous knowledge on YT, learning from you in person was a whole new ball game. Thanks again for the training tips, the world insights, and the tough love. Look forward to talking Hobbes and Locke over beers again someday. More training with you to come…because “a good carpenter always has nails!”
Fantastic!
This is Great, thank you!
I've learned sooo much from you, Thank you for making these videos and for making it easy to understand and learn.
Glad you like them!
We use plain paper on uspsa targets all the time. We also fold them in half or different shapes or simply draw targets on them depending on what we're trying to accomplish that day.
They look at me like I'm Neo when I pull out the cut up construction paper and index cards from target at the range. The cardboard in ammo boxes is fun for doing vertical strings as well.
It's always a shame when you look over at someone else's lane and see one of those $3/piece human shaped 'bad guy' targets with 200 holes in it and counting. Great knowledge transfer as always good sir.
Well regulated us to be well trained and well organized. A milita is a local team skilled at their particular mission essential task list organized to support a larger mission.
funny as I JUST bought a new pack of printer paper cause of my training drills. been doing something pretty similar on my channel. sometimes I just draw right on the cardboard or make a circle with a marker. whatever it takes to get better. Love your vids thanks man.
That is awesome!
Just in time
For bed?
I love your videos mickey ❤
Thanks
Not bad for one eye 👀
Cut the paper in half (6.5 x 8.5), it more accurately reflects where shots should be placed. You don't need a silhouette, amazon boxes and a razor knife. The other time/money saver is only pasting holes that aren't in the scoring zone, i.e. not on the white paper.
I believe I stated you can cut the paper smaller and smaller. Whatever baseline you choose.
I use a deck of cards. I either shoot at the whole card, at distance, or up close-- go for the margins on them. Either way, I get 52 targets per deck, and depending on where I buy them, it will be $1-5 per deck of cards.
For marksmanship, slit a cardboard the length of the card (as a holder) and slide your card in, the split it in half. Anytime I'm RO, I'll pass out cards to our guests and let them try it. It's intense, but it works.
I've also done this. Good stuff. We did a video years ago using Business cards
So what happened the lost guns?
👍
Hey Mick, what's the story behind being blind in your right eye? Is there a lesson for us behind that story?
Wear safety glasses.
Teach your kids safety with guns.
A boy shot me in the face with a fairly high powered bb gun. It wasn't malicious. It was stupidity.
He thought it was unloaded. It wasn't.

I have often asked why am I here? Who am I, really?
Mild disagreement: our lives are in Gods hands. When he calls one must go. Healthy, sick young or old
I dont think God interferes with human affairs
That's the way you see it, not the way I do.
Someone who trashes their body eating like crap, smoking, not staying fit, having poor sleep patterns, poor thought patterns, out of control stress, and the like, did those things. They quite literally did those things to themself.
Nice
